You can.....buy the turbo. It comes with the dual exhaust and the 18" rims and paddle shifters.
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
If I get the LTD Turbo, Im spending $30,000, not worth it.

Compared to other cars, its not a bad price, but I dont need turbo.

I have 400HP now, and I drive like a grandma now since I got tickets a while back. I dont need the Turbo version
  • abigmuttabigmutt Member Posts: 38
Well, does that mean that the ZAG price has $300-400 price build into it? Because if I go negotiate without being referred by ZAG, I could negotiate lower than the ZAG price.
For instance, ZAG shows me a price of $23,000, so that means the $400 is in that already? So I could start my negotiations at $22,600?
I wouldnt be paying the $400 anyway, thats the dealer that pays, but I know that it is ultimately passed on to the consumer.

    Is my logic correct?

WOW ! Someone who finally understands that ZAG et al COSTS YOU MONEY instead of saving you money.
Yes, if you don't go the ZAG/Costco/Sams/etc route and convince the dealer of this, you've immediately saved yourself at least $300.
Those pricing sites are a SCAM, people !!!
Better to just do what someone else here suggested and that is to email all the dealers within reasonable distance, tell them exactly what you want, tell them you haven't price the car via ZAG, Costco and so on, and you want their best internet price. Tell them you'll come and buy from the lowest priced dealer.

ZAG is nice if you don't mind paying for the service (because YOU are) and need some hand-holding; but otherwise skip those services and send a few emails.

    Hey abigmutt,

I am not going to be using that service, and they are not scams in my book at all. Overstock.com (ZAG) is providing me with negotiation leverage. I will not be referred by those stupid sites, I made up a fake name and email address so I will not be "charged" when I go buy the car for a ZAG fee that is charged to the dealer.

Without a place like ZAG to find out what a good price is for a car, misinformed buyers will think they are getting a good deal when they offer $100 over invoice.

A guy trying to sell me the car over the phone says Ill give it to you for $100 over invoice "$100 over what our dealer pays for it". He was lying and I said this to him. I told him that I know what cost is, and its not the invoice price. Right away dropped the price another $1500. STill not good enough.

Without ZAG or Overstock.com or any other service, which is FREEEEEEEE, I would not have known the INVOICE price and DEALER COST, etc....

First of all, you need to know what the marketplace is like and it changes every week with supply and demand. On Nov 6th, I did a zag quote for a Limited turbo with mats and mud flaps and NO navigation. I used different zip codes around the metro Philly area and came up with prices disparities of over 1500 dollars for the same car. The cheapest quote was 24,233, which was 1901 below invoice. There was also a statement mentioned in the quote that there was a manufacturer to dealer incentive of 1,000 dollars that expires on 1/3/11. There was also a mention that this dealers doc fee is 123 dollars.
This is all valuable information to be used in the negotiation process. I have read in other forums about the costco/sam's quotes as being a waste, and they probably are. But IMHO using zag and true car as a basis to gather information, as well as communicate in forums such as this is 100% INVALUABLE.
I have probably bought 10 cars in my lifetime and I have never had a good experience buying one previously, because the last car I bought was 8 years ago and that was way before I was internet savvy. The net makes the playing field a little more even when you're buying a car these days and I am looking forward to buying a car within the next month or so and not feeling like I have to take a shower after wards to get the slime off of me

I beg to differ.. . The assumption in your statement is that you will be able to walk in the same dealer and get the same deal as ZAG will get minus the fee the dealer pay to ZAG.. And I submit that assumption is wrong most of the time.. When you deal with a dealershp directly, you have a salesperson and he needs to make money out of the deal as well. And you can spent hours haggling with them and not getting price anywhere near what ZAG offer. And how do you know which dealer will give that level of discount? So what if you negotiate with a high cost dealer instead of the the one offer the lowest price? Ideally you can negotiate your best price from all the dealers around you and compare to what ZAG offer and go with the lowest price one. It is a lot of work and you will have to make the call to see if this is worthwhile or not.. But I would not automatically assume that ZAG is necessary higher.

Let's also not forget the value that we place on our own time. I'd glady pay around 1.3% more than what would otherwise be the best possible price on a $30,000 car for the benefit of A) KNOWING that I got a great price instead of just hoping and B) avoiding the hours and hours of research, haggling, and headaches associated with the traditional sales process.
  • truelies1truelies1 Member Posts: 34
Dealer usually chaerges you 10-20% more if you don't spend time on research, not 1.3%.

First time car buyer here. I got a deal for 17995 which includes the dealer rebate of 750 for the GLS Auto 2.4. It doesnt include the Doc fees or anything of the TTL fees. So OTD would be around 20k. Is that a good deal?

Has anyone bought from BRAD BENSION in N.J. i hear his stupid commercials and ads but wont step foot in there. i know word of mouth they have high doc fee's ,they add on a window etching fee on there invoices, and another in your face fee . so your really at invoice for the car when all said and done. thanks

Just picked it up today. I love it, got it for 22,824 plus TTL in southern california. Was 1500 below invoice for me, but had to go to like 6 different dealers for it. It was for the Sonata SE 2.0T with no Nav, cargo net, mats, rear view dimming mirror, ipod, etc. None went under invoice but used truecar and got the deal. Had to drive 100 miles bc none of the local dealers would come close to that. First day with the car and I am enjoying it very much.

phantom: Wow! That is an awesome deal on a great car.

How is it so far in term of acceleration, handling, everything else.

Amazing deal. True car and things like it really do work sometimes...

Benjaminh, thanks. Yeah after like 5 or so dealer I was starting to think that truecar was just false advertisement to get us in the dealership. Anyhow, like I said my expectation was not out of this world, thought it was high for a hyundai. I did a lot of research and finally settled on it and I must say I am very satisfied with my choice. I havent driven it much but it drives and handles great, its no 2011 wrx that I test drove but its not like my parent's camry either. Acceleration is awesome, I tried to tell my self to take it slowly but couldn't resist a few time when it was entering freeway or from dead stop. Its quiet for a turbo, I was expecting a lot more noise from inside the car. Then again I came from accord, camry, and civics and those cars arent the quietest out there. The road are pretty smooth here and I havent notice any rough rides that I see some ppl complain about on the SE model. I still need to take it back to the dealer for 3M tint they threw in and get a small aftermarket lip spoiler for it.

Looking for a new Black in/out 2011 sonata Limited with Navi in houston. Can someone give the best OTD price and the dealer. Thanks.
  • nephrodocnephrodoc Member Posts: 9
I have been looking at both, but the price difference is about 5K between limited turbo sonata and 3.8 genesis. I would pocket the difference and go with the sonata. Can't justify spending over 30K on a Hyundai.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
New 2011 Genesis 3.8s are available starting under $28k, depending where you live. More when loaded up of course. What's the going rate for the Sonata Limited 2.0T near you?

What is a good price for a SE (MSRP. 22595, with nothing else added) in the Los Angeles area? I heared Puente Hills Hyundai is ok, is that ture? Anyone can help me? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. Bought in Chicagoland at Grossinger Hyundai. I had a similar price with a dealership in Aurora, IL.

I am also looking for a good dealership in the LA area. Looking at the turbo models as well, still need to test drive one before deciding. Llike turbo models are pretty much widely avaliable in southern CA.
  • nephrodocnephrodoc Member Posts: 9
Last quote was about 25.5K on the limited turbo model.

I don't see any promotions like the 2.9% financing for December on the Sonata. Does anybody know what their going to have on the Sonata?
  • njgreggnjgregg Member Posts: 39
Nothing in the Philly area for Dec on the Sonata, according to their website, but there is a 1000 dollar manufacturer to dealer incentive that expires on Jan 3, which has enabled some dealers to offer deals around 1500-1900 or so below invoice.
  • crkyolfrtcrkyolfrt Member Posts: 2,345
They have .9% for 60 months in Cda on now. 0 down, 413/mo
It's on the GL starting from 22649. cdn tho and we pay more than u if you're in the USA.

After checking Hyundai website all day just now they updated for Dec. thru 1/3/2011, keeping the 2.9% financing for 60 months, maybe this will save me from my wife liking Toyota 0%.
  • ming2ming2 Member Posts: 17
Where did you find the manufacturer to dealer incentives?
  • bluepbluep Member Posts: 29

stay away from puente hills hyundai. i had heard that their salesmen are dishonest, and i experienced it myself. they gave me a quote. when i went into the dealership they did not have the car, even though they said they had it on the lot. also, they changed the price. try going through the internet salespeople at glendora. i'm sure you can get a car way under invoice.
  • yangweiyangwei Member Posts: 3
Thank you, bro. I will find out and appreciate your advice.
  • yangweiyangwei Member Posts: 3
Could you tell me which dealership you got your deal, I live in southern Ca as well.
    Thanks.

Hope this finds you all well. Thanks for all the great posts. I am new to this forum and have been looking at Hyundai's for the past 6 years. I am glad to say that I am finally ready to take the leap.

I live in NC and visited with the local dealer and they were great. Very informative and excellent to deal with. I was looking at the 2011 Sonata GLS Automatic transmission and the only option extra I wanted were Floor Mats.

The MSRP was $21,015..... after negotiations the best price I was able to obtain was $20,300 out the door..... This included $444 doc fees and $585 in NC state sales 3% tax and NC State Tags.... The dealer was willing to take $1,903 off the MSRP. I do not qualify for any of the following (Loyalty, Military or College Grad) discounts.

Is this a good deal or do you think I may be able to work out a deeper discount? Thanks in advance, I look forward to your reply.

It all depends on how far you might have to drive to find a great deal if the dealers in your area are not willing to negotiate with you. With the availability of information on the web, savvy shoppers can now gain a somewhat equal footing when negotiating with dealers when they are purchasing a new car. truecar.com is a great website in which you can key in your zip code, or any zip code for that matter, pick your car, add whatever specific options you want and it will tell you 3 different dealers with specific guaranteed pricing that you will get for the car of your choosing.

Using Charlotte zip code 28201, 3 dealers came up and they were all between 74 and 82 miles away and their pricing ranged from 18500 to 18900 for your car. Using Raleigh zip code 27604, the cheapest price was 17,692...which is 1480 less than the 19,112 you were quoted by your local dealer. The problem is that this dealer was 172 miles away from Raleigh. I don't know where in NC you're located, so try different zip codes and see what comes up.
Personally, if I had to drive 350 miles round trip to save almost 1500 bucks, it's a no brainer. Best of luck with your search.

I bought my new Hyundai Sonata Limited Turbo in Iridescent Silver Blue with Grey interior without navigation about a week ago now. In a week I can say it is a solid car so far. I am in the Raleigh, NC area and following are the numbers on what I paid. I had a good experience at the dealer because I went thru their internet department and they got me the car I wanted. It came with floor mats, mud guards and trunk mat so the price went up by $300.

    MSRP $28,051
    Discount -$3000
    Sale price $25,051
    Tax $751
    License $74
    Doc. Fee $444
    Total $26,320

Nice pick abghar, that is exactly the same one I would buy, same color, same options. Let us know how it works out, sepecially the MPG's (unless you're a Lead Foot)

And a nice picture of the car parked next to the Grand Canyon if you can manage that? :shades:

    njgregg,

Thank you very much for bringing TrueCar.com to my attention! I truly appreciate it. My wife and I have recently had our first child and money has been tight.

My budget was $19,500 out the door, through truecar.com I am able to purchase the 2011 Sonata GLS automatic transmission for $18,952 out the door. Your advice and guidance has allowed me to acquire the 2011 Sonata and save $550 below my budget. I will be driving 3 hours round trip.... Without question well worth the drive.

I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you once again.
  • benjaminhbenjaminh Member Posts: 6,637

abghar: amazing deal on that Turbo Limited! Give us a report when you get the chance.

mikeeedeee: also amazing deal on the base gls. How much was that off of list price? just amazing.

List price on a GLS in Cda is 26249.00
Out the door here, (approx quick math) and assuming a measly 2000 off list, would be

    $22,649.00
$207.85 iPod cable and flr mats
    $1,565.00 destination
    $0.00
    N/A
    N/A
    N/A
    $24,421.85 - 2000 let's say = 22421.85+300 doc+100 A/C tax+200 other+ 13% sales tax = 26000.00 OTD

7000. bucks more for the same car :(

I am only guessing on the 2000 discount off full MSLP. It might be less for all I know. I hope to test Sonata, Elantra (2010 probably) and the Cruze this week if it quits snowing.

benjaminh the MSRP is $21,015 Sales tax on new cars in NC is 3% plus doc fees at my local dealer was $444...... The lowest my local dealer was willing to let me walk out the door last night was $20,300 including Tax Tags and doc fees.

By utilizing Truecar.com I am able to drive approximately 3 hours round trip and drive home with the same exact car for $18,952.77... the savings are $1,347.23 from the lowest my local dealer was willing to sell it for.

The local dealer took the MSRP of $21,015 and immediately took $1,600 off the vehicle.... which came out to $20,603 out the door. I countered with $19.499 out the door and told him that it was my top offer and my complete budget. He countered by dropping the price to $20,300 out the door. I told him that I had nothing left in the tank and that I am buyer right now for $19,499 right now. He asked me to split the difference ($19,899) but I simply could not.

Thank God I didn't for I am getting the same car for $18,952.77 out the door. Thanks once again NJGregg.

Please let me know if this offer is a decent offer, finalizing the deal on Monday morning:

Live in NY, purchasing in NJ
    Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T
Pearl White with slight options (worth $300)
    Final Price: $22,200
    Doc Fee: $399
    Tax: $1988
    Other Fees: $200

Now, i haven't made up my mind on whether i'm financing it or leasing it but if finance APR would be 2.9% for 60 months.

But IF i lease, what should my target price be? with 0 down + tax tags and fees? 12k miles per year.

Whose your dealer? Looks to be a pretty good deal, can they go lower on the doc fee?

    What are "other fee's"
  • njgreggnjgregg Member Posts: 39
Depending on what constitutes "other fees", I think you're about 500 above where you should be. True car came in at 22,106 in edison NJ for the pearl white SE 2.0T with carpets. The doc fees of 399 are too high, should be half that at the max. So, with the 200 other fees, the 200 that the doc fees are too high and the 100 difference with true car....there's the 500 dollar difference.
  • njgreggnjgregg Member Posts: 39
Mikeeedeee.....it was my pleasure saving you money. You're one less customer who did not feel that he or she had to take a shower to wash the slime away after negotiating with a car dealer. Best of luck with your purchase.
