Compared to other cars, its not a bad price, but I dont need turbo.
I have 400HP now, and I drive like a grandma now since I got tickets a while back. I dont need the Turbo version
For instance, ZAG shows me a price of $23,000, so that means the $400 is in that already? So I could start my negotiations at $22,600?
I wouldnt be paying the $400 anyway, thats the dealer that pays, but I know that it is ultimately passed on to the consumer.
Is my logic correct?
WOW ! Someone who finally understands that ZAG et al COSTS YOU MONEY instead of saving you money.
Yes, if you don't go the ZAG/Costco/Sams/etc route and convince the dealer of this, you've immediately saved yourself at least $300.
Those pricing sites are a SCAM, people !!!
Better to just do what someone else here suggested and that is to email all the dealers within reasonable distance, tell them exactly what you want, tell them you haven't price the car via ZAG, Costco and so on, and you want their best internet price. Tell them you'll come and buy from the lowest priced dealer.
ZAG is nice if you don't mind paying for the service (because YOU are) and need some hand-holding; but otherwise skip those services and send a few emails.
I am not going to be using that service, and they are not scams in my book at all. Overstock.com (ZAG) is providing me with negotiation leverage. I will not be referred by those stupid sites, I made up a fake name and email address so I will not be "charged" when I go buy the car for a ZAG fee that is charged to the dealer.
Without a place like ZAG to find out what a good price is for a car, misinformed buyers will think they are getting a good deal when they offer $100 over invoice.
A guy trying to sell me the car over the phone says Ill give it to you for $100 over invoice "$100 over what our dealer pays for it". He was lying and I said this to him. I told him that I know what cost is, and its not the invoice price. Right away dropped the price another $1500. STill not good enough.
Without ZAG or Overstock.com or any other service, which is FREEEEEEEE, I would not have known the INVOICE price and DEALER COST, etc....
This is all valuable information to be used in the negotiation process. I have read in other forums about the costco/sam's quotes as being a waste, and they probably are. But IMHO using zag and true car as a basis to gather information, as well as communicate in forums such as this is 100% INVALUABLE.
I have probably bought 10 cars in my lifetime and I have never had a good experience buying one previously, because the last car I bought was 8 years ago and that was way before I was internet savvy. The net makes the playing field a little more even when you're buying a car these days and I am looking forward to buying a car within the next month or so and not feeling like I have to take a shower after wards to get the slime off of me
I beg to differ.. . The assumption in your statement is that you will be able to walk in the same dealer and get the same deal as ZAG will get minus the fee the dealer pay to ZAG.. And I submit that assumption is wrong most of the time.. When you deal with a dealershp directly, you have a salesperson and he needs to make money out of the deal as well. And you can spent hours haggling with them and not getting price anywhere near what ZAG offer. And how do you know which dealer will give that level of discount? So what if you negotiate with a high cost dealer instead of the the one offer the lowest price? Ideally you can negotiate your best price from all the dealers around you and compare to what ZAG offer and go with the lowest price one. It is a lot of work and you will have to make the call to see if this is worthwhile or not.. But I would not automatically assume that ZAG is necessary higher.

How is it so far in term of acceleration, handling, everything else.
Amazing deal. True car and things like it really do work sometimes...
It's on the GL starting from 22649. cdn tho and we pay more than u if you're in the USA.
Thanks.
I live in NC and visited with the local dealer and they were great. Very informative and excellent to deal with. I was looking at the 2011 Sonata GLS Automatic transmission and the only option extra I wanted were Floor Mats.
The MSRP was $21,015..... after negotiations the best price I was able to obtain was $20,300 out the door..... This included $444 doc fees and $585 in NC state sales 3% tax and NC State Tags.... The dealer was willing to take $1,903 off the MSRP. I do not qualify for any of the following (Loyalty, Military or College Grad) discounts.
Is this a good deal or do you think I may be able to work out a deeper discount? Thanks in advance, I look forward to your reply.
Using Charlotte zip code 28201, 3 dealers came up and they were all between 74 and 82 miles away and their pricing ranged from 18500 to 18900 for your car. Using Raleigh zip code 27604, the cheapest price was 17,692...which is 1480 less than the 19,112 you were quoted by your local dealer. The problem is that this dealer was 172 miles away from Raleigh. I don't know where in NC you're located, so try different zip codes and see what comes up.
Personally, if I had to drive 350 miles round trip to save almost 1500 bucks, it's a no brainer. Best of luck with your search.
MSRP $28,051
Discount -$3000
Sale price $25,051
Tax $751
License $74
Doc. Fee $444
Total $26,320
And a nice picture of the car parked next to the Grand Canyon if you can manage that? :shades:
Thank you very much for bringing TrueCar.com to my attention! I truly appreciate it. My wife and I have recently had our first child and money has been tight.
My budget was $19,500 out the door, through truecar.com I am able to purchase the 2011 Sonata GLS automatic transmission for $18,952 out the door. Your advice and guidance has allowed me to acquire the 2011 Sonata and save $550 below my budget. I will be driving 3 hours round trip.... Without question well worth the drive.
I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you once again.
abghar: amazing deal on that Turbo Limited! Give us a report when you get the chance.
mikeeedeee: also amazing deal on the base gls. How much was that off of list price? just amazing.
Out the door here, (approx quick math) and assuming a measly 2000 off list, would be
$22,649.00
$207.85 iPod cable and flr mats
$1,565.00 destination
$0.00

$24,421.85 - 2000 let's say = 22421.85+300 doc+100 A/C tax+200 other+ 13% sales tax = 26000.00 OTD
7000. bucks more for the same car
I am only guessing on the 2000 discount off full MSLP. It might be less for all I know. I hope to test Sonata, Elantra (2010 probably) and the Cruze this week if it quits snowing.

By utilizing Truecar.com I am able to drive approximately 3 hours round trip and drive home with the same exact car for $18,952.77... the savings are $1,347.23 from the lowest my local dealer was willing to sell it for.
The local dealer took the MSRP of $21,015 and immediately took $1,600 off the vehicle.... which came out to $20,603 out the door. I countered with $19.499 out the door and told him that it was my top offer and my complete budget. He countered by dropping the price to $20,300 out the door. I told him that I had nothing left in the tank and that I am buyer right now for $19,499 right now. He asked me to split the difference ($19,899) but I simply could not.
Thank God I didn't for I am getting the same car for $18,952.77 out the door. Thanks once again NJGregg.
Live in NY, purchasing in NJ
Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T
Pearl White with slight options (worth $300)
Final Price: $22,200
Doc Fee: $399
Tax: $1988
Other Fees: $200
Now, i haven't made up my mind on whether i'm financing it or leasing it but if finance APR would be 2.9% for 60 months.
But IF i lease, what should my target price be? with 0 down + tax tags and fees? 12k miles per year.
What are "other fee's"
are you perhaps a hyundai dealer in NJ? if so, would there be a chance that you could beat the price i mentioned?
