I agree with you- but I don't know a great deal about cars... so I threw the idea out there.

    Thanks.

Everytime I find something it's gone within the blink of an eye. But I just saw a '99 mazda 626 with 70k on it for $4595, and a '97 Sentra with 69k on it for $3900. Not bad at all... I'm trying to be quick this time!!!! LOL

I'll make sure a mechanice checks out anything before I buy it though.

    Thanks

You may include the dealership name, city and state. But no names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addressess or other contact info. Thanks

I bought my car on May 31st (car was manufactured in May also) with only 15 miles for $20,500 ($22,461 out the door) and 0% financing for 3 years. I traded in my 99 Corolla for $5K and blue book was $4,700. I think I really did good on the car because the sticker was $23,609 and Edmunds' TMV was $20,625. The options it came with were front & rear side curtain airbags and carpet floormats. I got the car from Stevens Creek Toyota in San Jose, California.

I was on toyota usa's web site and i see a $199 per month lease for 36 month. Seems like a good deal. couple of questions:

    - has anyone picked one up at this price ?
    - considering this is based on MSRP price and the actual purchase price should be (with the same residual) close to invoice, the lease rate should be lower. Has anyone used this argument to reduce the monthly lease rate ?
    - i am interested in a 5 speed model. Can i get that for a even lower rate ?

I live in greater Chicago area. Shopping for a new 04 camry. Any one knows whether there are any rebates or incentives?

If you run a True Market Value report on the 2004 Toyota Camry in the Chicago area, it looks like there's a $1000 rebate. You might want to click on my link and check it out yourself, though, as there are several different body styles and options.

I live in W. Palm Beach too and am ready to buy a car. I have not found a dealer I like or trust. I CAN say without hesitiation to STAY AWAY from Ed Morse Delray Toyota. They have about 10 cars of each type and will push you to buy one on their lot whether it is what you want or not. My neighbors who have bought from them all have cars that are not the color or features they wanted. They lie and lie, yell at you, get in your face and pressure you to death. They also give the highest quotes of any I have found. Let me know if you find a dealer you like.

Before shopping this car, I did homework on research all the related buying experience posted on this forum, especially Sagman’s Strategy. Since I didn’t like to go back and forth to bargain with dealers on site I decided to use internet to get the best price I wanted.
Day 1- I visited 10 dealership’s websites and found out internet sales manager/director/guide contact information and emailed my request for a best out-of-door price. I got 8 automatic responses telling me they would follow up. Two called back and the price was beyond I planned to pay.
Day 2- I called 8 dealership that I emailed and I got 3 dealership offered the out of door price less than 18,500. The rest dealership’s price are higher than this from around 18,890 up to 19,600. I reconfirmed the price with that 3 dealership who offered the best price. Then checked auto advertisement in the newspaper found out the dealership who gave the lowest price had a one page open letter saying No hidden fees! No games. I then went directly to see the car, checked mileage which was 8 miles. I told them I’d get the car the day after since the two managers wouldn’t work on the next day. The managers there were nice though we didn’t pay and sign anything.
Day 3- I got calls from some other dealers who gave the higher price before. They either asked us to go to talk or asked me who gave the lowest price so they would be able to beat it. I didn’t give them the name but asked them if they could gave me the price I wanted. They couldn’t. I think it was unfair to asked who gave the lowest price then to beat it. They should be able to do their best to give the lowest price.
Day 4- Picked up my car in the dealership. The manager I contacted was very nice and took us to check my car again. I got detail about my car such as its age, build/whole sale/invoice/deliver dates. The car was buit 10 days ago, which was to our surprise. He also helped us checked the availability of the other car I was interested in. The other manager was very helpful with the car, clean and filled gas, etc.
Experience: Directly talk to who can make price decision and ask him to give one-time final price. I was glad that I got this car by only talking with the manager on the phone for 3 times. The first call he gave me the best price, the following two calls I just reconfirmed the price since some dealers told me this price wouldn’t be the same price I’d get when I actually get the car. In fact, I got the car with the same price as he told me on the phone. No extral fee, No hassel!

I live in the south of Florida and wonder if it would help protect the paint or if the undercoating would help make the car quiet inside.

I live in Stockton, CA. I am looking for a 2005 V-6 XLE Cammy sedan. Did you buy your cammy through an internet/fleet manager or a floor salesman? I have heard about cool deals from Carson Toyota in so. cal.
  • tadcartadcar Member Posts: 4
Were all the cars 2004 models? They sound like very high pressure. There should be a way to establish a database of good and bad dealerships.

    hi all... new here

i need your opinions. we purchased a 2003 silver camry LE today, and i am embarrassed to say that we really did not do our homework. when i was at the dealer i said, "i hope i don't go home and find that the blue book value is significantly lower" and he said, "oh no", and proceeded to pull up edmunds.com, pushed some buttons and showed me a higher price than what he was charging me. well, when i got home i decided to look around edmunds.com myself and now after reading these posts i think we paid too much for our car. please tell me what you think.
we got a certified 2003 with 21,579 for 17,995 plus tax and title. it has all the standards and this price included car and trunk mats. if you need more info let me know. thanks so much for your input.

What was the name of the dealership?
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
Your price for that part of the country is pretty good. They have a lot of additional fees in Florida. Toyota Guard is an absolute waste of money! Your paint will not have any additional protection over regular wax. It will not help your car ride quieter or gain rust protection from the unnecessary undercoating and the interior protection is no better than a $5.00 can of scotch guard. Save your money! Most cars sold in the southeast come with it anyway and dealers know that most people don't want to pay for it. It's a game and the dealer usually gives it to you for free as part of the deal to make you think you got a great price break. It's really worth about $50 bucks tops.

I bought my Camry from a floor salesman at Stevens Creek Toyota.
  • slov98slov98 Member Posts: 112
It looks like you could have gotten 05 camry(or for sure 04) at 18k before taxes, I wouln't have paid that much for a 2 year old model with 21k miles on it. What kind of an engine does it have, 2.4L or 3.0L (v6)?
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
...$18K for a 2003 with 21K on it? You could have done better. I checked the Blue Book site and that car came up as $16,345 (using a random NY State zip code somewhere up near Albany, it could be different where you are). And even that amount is more than I paid for a new 2004 Camry just two months ago.

But at least it's certified. When I was looking at used Camrys there were a lot on sale for that price that weren't certified, and that makes a big difference. The $16,345 price probably doesn't take that into account. But after much shopping around I found that new Camrys offered more value than the certified ones. The best offer I found on a certified Camry was $14,300 for a 2003 with 18K. Got a new 2004 for $1,600 more.

What's the deal with floor mats? I see many people referring to floor mats and either paying for them or getting them for free as a perk from the dealer. My dealer never even mentioned floor mats. They were just in the car when I picked it up.
  • yowls43yowls43 Member Posts: 3
thanks for your quick reply. yeah, i probably could have done better. our heads have been in the clouds a little with a newborn at home. when i looked on the KBB site i did get the same price...16,345 (i live south jersey). it also said that the certified vehicles were usually about 1100.00 more.
yeah, i had to ask for my mats. i don't know what is up with that.
the reason we went with the certified instead of the newer one is because the warranty was better.

  • yowls43yowls43 Member Posts: 3
thanks for you reply. the engine is 2.4 fuel injected. we did actually look at the 05'and the warranty was better on the certified 03'. out of curiosity, can you return a car? a dealer once told me that that was a myth.

  • mcgirl0730mcgirl0730 Member Posts: 78
I don't think you can return a car. There is no cooling off period. If the car has a problem and they try to fix it 3 times, then it will be considered a lemon. Then you can get a replacement (I think).
  • mcgirl0730mcgirl0730 Member Posts: 78
With Toyota, everything is an option. My V6 LE came with carpet floormats so they were added into the purchase price. My 1999 VE Corolla didn't have a clock. They said it was going to cost $150 to have one installed. I said, forget it, I'll just buy a stick-on. Accord has floormats as standard, but I still like the Camry better :)
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
I could see how having a newborn could make someone jump to a decision faster than they should. It could take a long time to find a good deal on a car, and how many dealerships can you shlep a baby around to.

If you're serious about returning it, read the purchase agreement/contract. You can also call the NJ State Attorney General's Office. They should be able to fill you in on NJ law.

McGirl, like I said, floor mats never came up in the conversation with my dealer. I never asked and they never offered. The mats were just in the car. And they definitely were not on the bill.

can you state the dealer, and does your quote include any options?...thanks,

In the market for a Camry. I just drove the LE for 2 days to a nearby state. My expereience is so-so. I have been an accord driver for many years, and find the camry to be more tarus/intrepid like when driving compare with Honda. The Stereing is not so precise, but ride and quietness is better than accord. I don't like the interier design of the LE, SE is better, and the seat seems more comfortable. XLE has better styling with the fake wood trim, but quiet a lot more than SE, and even more when compare with LE.

Practically, SE has mostly what I need, sunroof, AL wheel etc. Since I never driven one, I am wondering for the 4cly version, does it really have more sporty ride or is it just the V6?

Any one of you have the same thought process before?

Wow, that is really good. I would take that over brand-new any day. I got my 04 V6 LE brand new for $22,461 out the door. But then I have 0% APR financing and I don't think they offer that on used cars.
  • bleeblee Member Posts: 2
Hi! I'm in the "negotiating" process. For the Camry '05 LE one dealer says they'll sell it to me for $18,795 plus tax the other dealer says $19,129. We want to get the dealer installed leather interior. The first dealer says it costs $1100 to do and the 2nd dealer says it costs $1000 to do. I asked if dealer#2 will accept $18,695 plus tax. Am I on the right track, or is that still too much? Thanks for any feedback. I'm waiting for his call now!
  • bleeblee Member Posts: 2
Just wanted to add that I live in Long Island,NY. I'm probably going to go with dealer#2 if he waives the $379 administrative/delivery fee, it includes the 2.9% for 48 mos., preferred accessory pkg (floor mats, cargo mat, cargo net, first aid kit), 1st free oil change. I plan to do the leather install and will try to get them to come down $100 on that. But, that is a separate transaction apparently. Dealer # 1 would not budge from the $19,129 and said that dealer #2 would throw some hidden costs in. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  • slov98slov98 Member Posts: 112
Are you planning on doing the leather install yourself?
There are shops that will do this conversion for you I believe for less than dealer.
I found this site after a quick search, they are in canada but maybe you can contact them and get an idea of the cost.

Am considering a new Camry, but want the lowest possible monthly payment, and have negative trade equity, excellent credit rating (I know, not the best position). Has anyone had any experience with this product? This does not appear to be a lease, but makes sense if you drive 12K miles/yr, and want to keep the car the entire term (about 4 or 5 years).

    Regards

    John

After hours of negotiation, we finally reached a deal. Unfortunately, the color I was looking for is not available in that dealership. They told me that I have to put some deposit down so that they can locate one for me from other dealership. This is my first car buying experience. Do I really have to give them deposit for them to locate a car? If so, how much is standard practice?

    Thanks

I just bought a 2005 camry XLE , 4 cylinder with the premium plus package ( leather, moonroof, alloy wheels) for 22,350. I paid extra for the 4 year warranty and the lowjack system and with taxes the total price of the car came out to be a little more than 26,000. I think i got a great deal on the car.
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
Yes it is normal and $500 is what I have always put down. That should be plenty.
  • nowennowen Member Posts: 1
The dealership says they have an aprox 150$ fee for doing an out-of-state registration. I am in Va but am moving to LA. I already have a house in LA so I am a resident. I got a better deal on the car in VA. Is this fee valid or not?
  • chiguy1chiguy1 Member Posts: 14
    I agree; $500.
  • sarasotasarasota Member Posts: 2
I have been negotiating for a Camry LE, side air bags, moonroof, carpet mats, no Toyo guard,JBL sound system here in Sarasota, FL. After much ado, both Internet sales managers have come down to $19,500 (after rebate) for the vehicle, which lists at $22,525. This is what others are paying for the car in this area, according to Edmunds. They have offered me $2900 for my 95 Honda Accord, which is in good shape, and Kelley Blue Book says this is the top trade-in value.

Can I do better, do you think? Should I try to sell my car on the Internet?

    Thanks!
