My Dad bought an 05 LE Camry automatic 4-door with side air bags & curtains, floor mats, mud flaps, and toyota guard 1 month ago at Brandon Toyota for $19,700 out the door(includes destination charge, state tax 6%, doc fees, & all processing fees and tag). I worked the deal over the internet for him. I also had the deal beat by $100 at Autoway, but my Dad wanted to buy where he lived.

Where do you live? I am in the market for a 2005 XLE with navigation system, seat warmers and stability control. Wondering what I should expect to pay. I am in Southern California area. Waiting to hear back on internet quotes from dealers now.

As you can see from post #1340 I am in the market for the 2005 XLE with navigation, seat warmers and stability control. My question beside how much should I try to get it for is should I negotiate a lease price and lease the car for the 3 years with 0 down and 0 interest then buy it or just buy it. I would have to finance for at least 5 years if I were to buy.
  • cutedhcutedh Member Posts: 31
Hi Crose.....I live in Socal too and I did not get the navigation system or the seat warmers. I bought my car from Toyota of San Bernardino. The salesman was really friendly and cool. You should try to get a quote from them and you should also try to go down there as you most likely will get an even better deal.

What was the MSRP of your Camry?
  • mcgirl0730mcgirl0730 Member Posts: 78
You definitely should sell your Accord to a private party rather than trade it in. When I bought my 04 Camry, I traded in my 99 Corolla and I only got $5,000 for it which was also the blue book. I could have sold it for at least $7,000. It's a little bit of a hassle to sell to a private party, but it's worth it. I sold my 91 Corolla in 2 days.

We just bought a 2005 XLE and our dealer did not have what we wanted in stock. Our salesman found our car in Seattle, 2hr north of where we live. Before we even started the price negotiation a salesman left to go get the car. We finished all the paperwork, they gave us a loaner car (was a used car for sale on the lot) and delivered our car to us, at our house, around 9pm that night.
We did NOT get leather interior (didn't want it) or sunroof (not that either). We paid $27K.

Before purchasing my 2005 Toyota XLE V6 , I did a lot of homework, got price quotes from dealers, checked web sites-but my final purchase was with
Auto-Expert I got a super deal on my 2005 Toyota XLE V6 with all options, leather moonroof etc. Auto-Expert works with credit unions but you can use there service if you are not a member. check the web for address, and info.
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
I think for $27K they would have painted your house too.

We were in the market for a new 2004 SE Camry when they had a 1250 rebate. However, after reading the side crash reports which were not good, without side and curtain airbags, we backed out because they couldn't find one with side and curtain airbags.

Because the dealer was still giving us a good deal for a new 2005 SE (Invoice) they said that they would put in a 'preference' order. This was not requesting a stripped down version, just the 'standard' SE configuration (Floor mats, Aluminum wheels, JBL sound, spoiler and wheel locks) but adding on side and curtain airbags. They said that this would take 6-8 weeks.

We checked back after 8 weeks and found out that the order had not been placed yet. They said that they submitted preference requests every 2 weeks but that the preference has not been 'accepted' yet. I have heard some horror stories about special orders with Toyota but wasn't sure if our experience made sense or what other's experiences were. I would think that since Camry's were getting bad safety ratings without side and curtain airbags and good ratings with them that they would be making many more with them. Many other manufacturers have them as standard or are very easy to get.

I also would expect that they would want to supply a product to someone with cash in hand before just dumping into dealer inventory.

I own a 2002 Highlander and we were planning on replacing a 96 Camry so we have become loyal Toyota owners (after some bad experiences attempting to "Buy American") but the buying experience has been painful. We may need to go to our second choice, an Altima.

    Is this typical?

After reading the forums and doing some research on Edmunds I asked for 4 dealers in the area to send me some OTD prices on the '05 XLE V6 with navigation system, heated seates, VSC and side airbag curtains (which would have to be ordered from factory since no one carries navigation systems in So. Calif.). Of the 4 dealers I sent request too, not one of them responded with a price quote. They did send responces back saying they got my E-Mail and would call me to set up appt. to come in and discuss it. My wife called them and told them we didn't want to come in and to just give us their OTD price for what we wanted which was like pulling teeth. The ones that finally responded sent back prices eitehr the LE or the XLE but without some of the options we requested.

I then sent an E-Mail request to the internet department at Toyota of Orange asking them for the same information. I was promptly sent back an OTD price and confirmation of everything I had asked for. Their price was $26,096 compared to Edmunds $26,402 after rebates. Called the other dealers back and asked if they could beat the price and they said they couldn't. Went in the next day and gave deposit for them to order vehicle. Took 10 minutes, very pleasent experience. Would highly recommend Toyota of Orange to anyone looking for Toyota in the area.

Eddiee: I am in the same boat as you (actually, you are 2 weeks ahead of me). My dealer explained up front that it might take as long as 4 months!! for the car to be delivered. Since then, my 17 year old son killed my 3rd car (drove to girlfriend's house after cooling system died on our old Windstar; he previously totaled my 2003 Camry), so I am anxious to get the new '05 Camry SE. My wife wants to bail, but she didn't like the seats in the Altima. Good luck!!
  • leonivleoniv Member Posts: 120
4 months sounds about right. My dad ordered a Toyota Tundra and it took them almost 4 months to deliver.

FWIW, here in the DC area there is a fairly price aggressive dealer who has this on his site. I was wondering if this was a good deal, now I think I know.

    05 Camry XLE V6

    50 State Emissions
    Heated Front Seats
    VSC & Side Airbag Package
    XLE Navigation Package

    MSRP: $28,985
    Invoice: $26,170
    Internet Price : $24,870

Out-the-door in this area for this car would be very near $25,700. I could probably wring another 200-300 out of this deal if I had really really wanted to. The market here is super competitive.

    Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat as well. Based on the advice of Carsdirect, I decided to forego the option as they did not think this configuration on the 4 cyl. would be produced. In fact, I'm waiting for my order to be "accepted" by Toyota anyway, as we're looking for Mineral Green (very few cars of this color). Most of the available cars are Lunar Mist.
  • eweinereweiner Member Posts: 36
I can confirm this pricing in DC area.

Just bought an XLE V6 loaded for $500 under invoice, plus the rebate, plus 1 year free scheduled maint.

We added protection pkg and 7/100K warranty.

Out the door tax, tags, options, warranty etc low 28K

What does year 1 scheduled maintenance consist of? A couple oil changes? Is it a huge perk?
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
You forgot a few. 5-speed auto vs. 4-speed auto. And the 05 does away with the casette player that was standard on the 04.
  • mcgirl0730mcgirl0730 Member Posts: 78
You did really good...$3,618 off MSRP. I got $3,109 off MSRP on my 04 V6 LE. The car came with side and curtain airbags which are really good to have, and carpet floormats and cargo mat.

Has anybody in Southern California been able to find a 2005 SE V6 with the side airbag/side curtain airbag package? Toyota.com "Build your Own" website gives SAB/SCAB as an option for the LE, but not the SE (presumably because there is no inventory available).

    Thanks,

Went to Parkway in Englewood b/c I work near by... the sales person was a real jerk, so I trekked 40 min to Westchester Toyota in Yonkers (based on an internet quote) When I explained I was buying a car for for company, just needed to get from A to B, and didn't NEED any bells and whistles, we worked out a deal to $17,350 + TTL. I went back to Parkway to speak with the manager with my reciept in hand. He defended the way his person treated us that morning ("he needs to make a living..") I wanted to be like I DONT REALLY CARE (I JUST WANT THE BEST DEAL) but offered to match the price. If he can BEAT it (Im thinking $17,200?) then maybe we'll work something out...

Purchased for $19299 + ttl. in Central Texas This is a 2005 2.4L LE. Optional equipment came with this are
1.Side and curtain airbags (MSRP 650)
    2.Floor and Trunk Mats (184 MSRP 184)
    3.Tinted glass (299 MSRP)
Total MSRP is $21658. Hope this is a good deal. Any comments welcome.

You are a very dedicated employee. After the initial offer of $17,350, I would have taken it and not worried about returning to a dealership where I had been mistreated. That dealership, IMO, doesnt deserve the money of your company. And over $150 that you dont have to worry about since its not yours.... is it really worth the hassle? $17,350 is a fine price.

Went to Parkway Toyota in Englewood NJ to get a base camry with auto for a company car. No bells and whistles at all. The guy at Parkway quoted 20K+. I literally laughed- he wouldn't budge! I couldn't believe it!

Went to Westchester Toyota in Yonkers. Got it for 17,350 + TTL.

    '05 Base / Auto / Silver

    What do you all think?
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
If you're talking about the Standard, I believe there are two more differences. The 2004 has a power driver's seat and color-keyed side mirrors. I've heard the 2005 doesn't.
  • papspaps Member Posts: 6
Its obvious that I was comparing my 05 STD with an 04. Since there was no 04 STD, I just did an upward comparison (05 STD to an 04 LE) and not a downward comparison. Hence, no mentioning of power driver seat, black side mirrors, small spare tire and keyless entry. HTH.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
so it wasnt that obvious. Toyota introduced the Camry standard around March of this year, so please spare us the condescencion.

  • papspaps Member Posts: 6
04 Camry STD around March of this year? Thats news to me. Going by sites like Toyota.com, Edmunds.com...I believed that Toyota introduced the STD model only for 2005. This is even mentioned in edmunds.com's WHATS NEW in the 05 camry page. Excuse me if I'm not correct.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
but the Standard model was a mid year addition to the 2004 line-up. March may be the incorrect date of release, but it was definitely available for sale by May. Trust me, Sir Edmund isnt always right...

    2003 Camry LE, 2.4L I4, 28500 miles, auto, $14000 plus ttl.
    in TX?
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
If the car is in excellent condition, it's not a bad price.
  • eagles1eagles1 Member Posts: 4
the car should be OK, got from a dealership. and their extended 5y/100,000m warranty is $1900...is it too expensive? anyway don't wanna buy this on a camry.
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
Yes that is way too much! A 7 year/100K warranty can be bought for under $900, but I wouldn't waste the money on a Camry. The chance of needing it is almost zero.
  • papspaps Member Posts: 6
The Standard model was made available in late aug/early sept as 2005 model. I dont think toyota ever came up with an 04 Standard. I'm 99.99999999% positive on this one. Anyone have any website to prove me wrong on this?
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
You're wrong, there is an 04 Standard. I should know because I OWN ONE!!!

I bought it in mid-July for $15,898 in Happauge, NY. I've had an after-market alarm system installed which includes the keyless entry, so the only two differences between my 2004 Standard and a 2004 LE are the spare tire and the silver "LE" nameplate on the rear end.

Needless to say, I don't miss either of those things.

As for Web sites, just put "2004 Camry Standard" into Google and you can click away all day if you like. Invoice is listed as $16,507, but that's for the manual tranny. I got the auto.
  • aristotlearistotle Member Posts: 123
for $20,000+DH($300)+tax. Is that a good price?
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Thanks for getting my back, ian. The Standard model was a late addition to the 2004 line-up, and it did not appear in any print brochures. It definitely debuted in Spring of 2004, somewhere between March and May.

For 2005, the differences between the Standard lacks the following features that the LE has

    -color keyed side mirrors
    -power drivers seat
    -full size spare tire
    -keyless entry
-about 5 or 6 available colors

Thanks to this group, I negotiated a better-than-invoice price for my 05 Camry with side airbags, JBL sound, moonroof, floor mats.

    $22,500 MSRP, $19,500 invoice

Actual sale: $18,500 OTD plus trade of my 95 Honda Accord, valued by Kelley Blue Book at $2700 (dealers --Cramer Toyota and Gettel Toyota). Both ended up giving me $4300 for my trade, and keeping the vehicle price at $19,500. Net savings to me, I believe, was $1500 below invoice. This included the $1000 rebate. And I didn't have to take a car with Toyoguard either. THANKS!

The Internet managers really treated me differently from the Honda dealer where I simply walked in the showroom.

Here in hurricane alley, dealers are really hungry for sales.

  • eddieeeddiee Member Posts: 25
After a followup discussion with the salesman who said that he could not find any SE's being build with Side Airbags we gave up on the Camry and bought an Altima. I wanted to buy a Camry but evidently they don't want my business or think that safety is a frivolous option, even if you are willing to pay for it.

These are standard on Accords and others.

Good luck to others who are waiting on their cars with side airbags but I was not willing to wait without even a definitive confirmation that it would ever be delivered.

To us, a Poor side impact crash rating is not acceptible.

If anyone monitoring this site has feedback potential to Toyota, please tell them that they are falling behind others on safety and this will impact sales.

They just lost a sale and a loyal Toyota buyer.
We have had a 72 Corolla, 86 Camry, 87 Pickup, 96 Camry and a 2002 Highlander between my wife and I over the years.

    Great products; arrogant company.

where is the hurrican alley at? FL?
I am in the market of Camry.
Could you provide the salesman's name?
    Thanks
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Toyota should be thoroughly lambasted for not making Side and Curtain airbags standard as Honda has done. But Toyota isnt really falling behind on safety, since the Camry with Side Airbags does just as well in the IIHS test as does the Accord, and the Camry actually offers a very important safety feature that the Accord does not- stability control.

However, what made you choose the Altima, which has not been tested with its Side Curtains and Airbags (Im assuming you chose an Altima with the Side Airbags/ABS pkg). Indeed, the Altima did not get as good a structure rating as did the Camry or Accord in the test you mention.

Is yours an 05? I think they did a great job with the interior redesign and materials upgrade. Congrats and happy motoring!

Where do you live? What options does it have over standard?
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
Like eedie, I had to give up on the Camry for the same reason: It is virtually impossible to find an 05 SE on the lots here in Central Florida, and none in the pipeline have the side curtain airbag package.

I went to the Mazda6s instead. Camrys w/side curtains may have good safety ratings, but unless you can actually buy the cars, it doesn't mean much.
  • rutger3rutger3 Member Posts: 361
Couldn't agree more with the potential buyers of the camry, Toyota really missed the boat on this issue, falling behind Honda. They absolutely should have made side curtain airbags standard on all camry lines, or at the very least made them widely available as an option. They did neither and that is why they will lose sales to Honda and others who make it a higher priority. I am another one who will probably end up with something else because of this issue. Currently have a 99 camry with 165k miles, will get a new car soon, but if I cannot find a camry properly equipped, then it is an Accord for me. When are all car companies going to realize that safety should never be an option, especially in a family car.
ALso, why are SE's so darn hard to get here in the northeast?
