    > Good news: you can call and cancel the one you purchased!

    Calling today.

Genuine thanks to both of you who responded to my query - I will call and cancel with the dealership today and will get on-line right away. Incidently I live on the West coast - I wonder if Midwest Toyota only deals with MidWesterners?

Have a good day - I know I will now.

Wow, things are crazy out there trying to buy a Camry. I live in Northern NJ and the availability of these cars is practically nil.

Went to two dealers yesterday to test drive and hopefully buy a new Camry. At the first dealer, I was feeling real bad for the salesman, thought he was going to wear out his shoes going back and forth to the sales manager's office. Finally the man himself came out and we got down to business. He finally gave in at $400 over invoice for a car he is scheduled to receive by 11/9. But it was not the color I wanted. I made a deposit telling him that it was contingent upon my wife approving.

Went immediately to dealer #2 where I took both a Hybrid and XLE v6 on test drives. I was able to negotiate a $300 over invoice at this dealer. They even gave me a printout that shows the serial # of the car (but not the VIN) along with all of the equipment and the retail and dealer prices. Told me the car should be in by the end of the month but no later than Nov 15th at the latest.

I also noticed that there is a "Current Dealer" number on the Vehicle Inquiry Report. Is there anyway to match this number to the dealer to determine if this is really their car? :confuse:

I ordered and XLE v4 with Leather, Stability Control, Heated Seats and Floor Mats.

    Retail: $27,659
    Invoice $24,844 + $300

Really just wondering if the dealer is pulling my chain or what.. Any ideas?

anyone ever had a dealer's internet dept email you and they say we will beat any written quote and it's an e-mail quote from another dealer and ever been tempted to edit the actual price and either: a) forward the "new" price to the first dealer or b) print it out and bring it to the dealer that said they'll beat any quote(s)? please please your experience ;)

I just wanted to know if anyone in Southern California has tried to buy an SE V6? I drove one in Victorville the other day and fell in love with it. They seemed like they would deal quite a lot on the price but didn't seem too happy I wanted to go home and punch the numbers into the computer. I have known several car dealers and I know the plan is to get you to leave with the car that day. I never buy a car the first time I see it unless I have it planned out before I get there.

Also I have read several peoples opinion on the NAV system but would be interested in how people like it and if it is worth the $2200 msrp.(I know I can get it for less)
  • blindmantooblindmantoo Member Posts: 139
Think on the NAV as a $1200 upgrade. You get the upgraded JBL (w/ bluetooth) which would be $1000 by itself. It's worth it if you use it - I do & my wife doesn't. As a map it's just ok, as a true NAV system it works great. I have NAV on our V6SE & Odyssey and wouldn't get another vehicle w/o it. The screen is bigger on the Oddy & the "map" is more useful. You won't be disappointed if you get it. Get the XM or Sirius module also - it's a must have if you travel.
  • shasta67shasta67 Member Posts: 109
Thanks for the reply. It is a $1200 option on the XLE but $2200 on the SE. I guess the XLE has more of the upgrade standard. It is really going to be my wife's car and I was just going to buy her the 4 cylinder LE but since I drove the V6 I decided that is the way to go. I do all the driving when we leave town and it is a lot more fun to drive than my 3/4 ton diesel.

I have found several XLE's I like too but I really like the SE's interior, with dark leather, better.

Anyway I love this forum. Lots of useful information. Thanks again.
  • blindmantooblindmantoo Member Posts: 139
The SE is my wife's also... I find myself "stealing" it for every errand on the weekends - It is a hoot to drive. It's black w/ charcoal leather package, NAV, Stability, XM, Mats and the Moonroof pkg - no spoiler. Great power & mileage. Paid $27,840. Bluetooth works great also.
  • barracuda1975barracuda1975 Member Posts: 10
I tried to do that. The result: (1) dealer does not even respond back to the email, (2) said that the price is not realistic.
Dealers in NY and NJ area do not want to go down. The best price I got so far ( and real one) was $700 above the Invoice and their invoice was $900 higher then Edmunds one. Their comment is : Camry is a hot car now and we can sell it without any problems  . Sure kills all shopping mode.

    Check Fitzmall on line!

The EDmunds price does not include the TDA charge.
  • ltd1ltd1 Member Posts: 13
I thought your figure of $2200 MSRP for navigation was wrong as I just bought an XLE V6 that had the navigation option at $1200 MSRP ( which I passed on ), but you are correct per Edmunds. Why would the same option cost so much more/ It must have something to do the radio system.

Hello all, I have been offered the following price on new Camry hybrid
Leather, navigation, sunroof & extra mile option f.
    MSRP 31434.00
    offered price is 29622.00+ttl
Is this a good price. I am ready to buy this.
  • jbolltjbollt Member Posts: 736
This seems to be an excellent price..however, if there is a trade involved, it is harder to determine a good deal.
  • enkurenkur Member Posts: 13
No there is no trade involved. this was offered via email. i live in Austin,TX and this dealer is in San Marcos which is about 45 minutes away for me. I am going to be in Dallas this weekend and thought I'll drop by the dealers there and see what are they offering.
Another dealer in town offered $100 over invoice on any Camry other than Hybrid...I wonder if that makes more sense.. its tempting
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Which dealer is offering $100.00 over invoice on the Camry?
  • tanmichealtanmicheal Member Posts: 10
buddy, look for the invoice price... I bought my Camry 4 Cyl LE for 19500, that was the best price for now.... I got that price from edmunds,... just wait for atleast two weeks after you send your information like what you want on the CAMRY of your dream, it will be worth the wait.. happy hunting.. :)

I'm able to buy Camry 07 SE for $27K and change

It appears that most of the items (including the leather?) are dealer installed. If you're really looking for a deal then Remote Start, Paint Sealants, Fabric Guard (on a leather car), etc all have a high markup and don't really add any value. Note that for resale value and probably durability the add on items won't add as much "value" when you eventually trade as will the factory options.

MSRP should be the sticker from the factory, not the "second" sticker added on by the dealer after they add on the extras.

Also is the extended warranty a Toyota backed warranty or a dealer offering from a third party?

Lot's to consider, but my advise is any option you want that is available from the factory should be bought and installed from the factory, not added on.
  • sue2paksue2pak Member Posts: 25
Which is about $150 over invoice at Fitz...this was when all camrys were at $300 over invoice..now some are at invoice and this is with every other oil change being free.

So Fitz does negotiate so it is worth a try to go in and not say thier internet price is their absolute lowest. Luckily for us, we live about 5 minutes from them so the oil changes and maintence made it worth it.
  • rippingpantsrippingpants Member Posts: 19
The Sunroof and VSC are installed by the factory.

The Option C warranty and everything else are installed by the distributor. Also, the warranty matches what Toyota.com sell. So I believe it should be backed from Toyota.

Some questions below in curly brackets.

Is $926 for the items below worth it?
The Extra Mile Option Package C
    -Custom Tape Stripe
    -Rear Spoiler. {What is this, I thought SE comes with it}
    -Cargo Net
    -Trunk Organizer
    -First Aid Kit
    -Carpet Mat Set (5 Pc)
    -Fabric Guard
    -Security System Upgrade {RS 3200 Plus Security System, any good?}
    -Wheel Locks
    -Carpet Floor Mats
    -Road Hazard Tire Warranty
    -Rear Trunk Mat
    -Roadside Assistance (3 Yrs/36,000 Miles
    -Extra Mile Extended Life Tires
    -(3 Years / 36,000 Miles) {If I swapped Wheels and tires with aftermarkets or with Lexus, would the warranty for the tires still apply?}
    -(6 Yrs/100,000 Mile) {What is the standard warranty? 5/60K miles}

what you can do is search for Toyotas that have lots of Camry, like in my case i search for their inventory list, I found out Toyota Carson hae 40 Camry anf Power Irvine have 45 I called both power and was able to grab my Camry for Invoice+TTL... a two month ago they said its a HOT car yah right... after getting stuck with tons of stock they offered me Invoice. Happy hunting dude

Hi u doing, i was wondering if that price 19500, included taxes and evrything else or not. also what dealer u went to, and if u know about the price for the camry ce 07 model
    thanks

so bascicaly what you are saying is that it okay to try and rip the dealer off? Why not just steal the car and never make a paymnet?
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
The Sunroof and VSC are installed by the factory.

My loaded TCH was only $30,589 and all the items except the spoiler yours has was factory installed. You seem to have a MSRP that is equal or more than the factory MSRP would be with the same items.

Also, the warranty matches what Toyota.com sell. So I believe it should be backed from Toyota.

If it's not a Toyota warranty, Toyota is not backing it. The dealers may honor it, but it has nothing to do with Toyota and if the company goes bust you are left without an extended warranty.

Some questions below in curly brackets.

Is $926 for the items below worth it?
The Extra Mile Option Package C
-Custom Tape Stripe (Probably a $100 item)
-Rear Spoiler. {What is this, I thought SE comes with it} (about $250+installation)
    -Cargo Net (($30)
    -Trunk Organizer
    -First Aid Kit
-Carpet Mat Set (5 Pc) (buy online for $150+)
-Fabric Guard (worthless on leather, a $15 can of ScotchGuard)
-Security System Upgrade {RS 3200 Plus Security System, any good?} (Would you buy this normally? I've never purchased a security system)
-Wheel Locks (about a $30 item)
-Carpet Floor Mats (you repeated this)
-Road Hazard Tire Warranty (about $100, usually only available with your next set of tires and not the OEM's. Could be worth having, have you ever had a damaged tire?)
-Rear Trunk Mat (part of the 5 piece set above)
    -Roadside Assistance (3 Yrs/36,000 Miles)
-Extra Mile Extended Life Tires (are these the OEM's or are they simply giving a warranty on the OEM's)
-(3 Years / 36,000 Miles) {If I swapped Wheels and tires with aftermarkets or with Lexus, would the warranty for the tires still apply?} (It should but you would have to read the fine print of the warranty)
    -(6 Yrs/100,000 Mile) {What is the standard warranty? 5/60K miles}
(3 yr / 36000 miles is standard BtoB, with 4/60,000 I believe on the powertrain and 15/100,000 on the hybrid system_150,000 miles in some states)

If the warranty is a bumper to bumper 6yr/100,000 $0 deductable, and it's included with all the above for $926 then this all might be a bargin. However in your original posting I didn't think all these things were included for that price.

I'd always prefer factory options over similar or even identical dealer installed options.

Several posters have complained about the aftermarket leather. It's more expensive than factory and does not usually include the heated seats

    Thanks for the reply wvgasguy.
If you go to Toyota.com and build your car with options, you will see the Option C warranty for $1376 MSRP. The Manager said, you have purchase the option before it hits the dealer's lot. It's not available on cars already on the lot.

Are you in the SouthEast Toyota area? Those things don't show up in my area as an option (this below is cut and paste).

In my area the only options that show up on Tooyota.com:

    Camry Hybrid
    $25,900 MSRP [1]

    HYBRID AVAILABLE OPTIONS
Moonroof Package - includes power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors with dimmer control and rear personal reading lights
Comfort and Convenience Package [12] - includes heated front seats and outside mirrors
Leather Package - includes leather-trimmed seats and door trim with integrated armrests, driver and front passenger power seats, and dual front and rear map pockets
    Available Options:
Voice-activated DVD navigation system [7] with JBL® AM/FM 4-disc in-dash CD changer with satellite radio capability [4], MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary audio jack, hands-free phone capability via Bluetooth® [5] wireless technology, eight speakers in six locations and FM diversity reception
    Heated outside mirrors

I have all of these from the factory for $30,580 (includes delivery)

I know the SouthEast Toyota Area is a little different from reading other posts. They seem to have their own game to play. I can see them wanting to know what options prior to delivery to the lot but an extended warranty from Toyota can be purchased anytime before the basic warranty runs out.

I'd also want to know that the warranty I bought was a Toyota backed Toyota Platinum warranty. A 7yr/100,000 warranty is around $1000+ from what some of the posters have found. Most of them had to shop around and didn't get it at their dealer. I'll probably buy one next spring as I seem to be driving 3000 miles/ mo and my basic warranty won't last too long.

Since every Toyota Dealer in the US has to honor a Toyota Platinum warranty, I'd make sure thats what I got. I see no reason a warranty has to be picked prior to a car hitting the lot.
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
I used to be jealous when I had my Sequoia and i saw that in the South East you could get a Sequoia with 18"BBS, Borla Exhaust and suade seats. I thought it was a "special edition" Toyota and couldn't figure pout why Toyota didn't make a 4wd like that for the rest of us.

I've seen plenty of posts over the last 5 months though of all the other cars (not so special) that they are loading up, many times without your wanting the options, and have come to realize they are really manipulating the consumer into buying a bunch of stuff they don't want, don't need or may be a lesser quality than the factory options.

Just doesn't make sence and I don't see why Toyota puts up with it. I probably would not have owned 7 Toyota's if I had those buying experiences.

uh...no...those words came outta your mouth, fella...i dont wanna rip off the dealer (if they think so that's their opinion), it's about doing all i can, at all cost, to get the best deal for me, and let them compete with each other. period.

Thank you all for useful info that makes me made the purchase in 2 weeks. Here's the deal for my LE w SR and Z1:
    $20,787 ($300 over invoice ($340 TDA included))
$289 fees (higher than northern Jersey average of around $200)
    7% tax
$7.50 tire tax (don't know why NJ charges this and why dealer cares this)
    Title: $234
    Total: $22,772.59

I bought the car at Crystal Automall. I was scared away by unfamiliar TDA last Sat at the same place. I bargain over the phone for 15 min. They honored what we agreed. I was out within 1.5 hrs. No pressure. I strongly recommend this dealer.

Here're some thoughts I gained in the past two weeks:
    * Most northern Jersey dealers are trying to make $800 - 1000 over their invoices now. You might want to wait for a couple of months if you're seeking Fitzmall-like price.
    * Typical hidden costs include "window etching fee", "anti-corrosion coating fee", doc fees etc. If you talk down the over-the-invoice price, these fees will rise. So find out all the fees before you start bargain.
    * Go to Fizmall if you are too frustrated dealing with Jersey dealers. I gave up that idea after doing the math: extra $180 for driving to and back from the nearest Fizmall ($0.45/mile x 400 miles) and extra $? for no less than 15 hr lost time for you and a second driver.

The bottom line is I love this car. Keep trying and you'll enjoy it. Thank you all again.

When they pull up what they sent and see that you changed it there would be some embarrassment. I would not want to get caught in a lie even with a lying, cheating car dealer. If you cannot get a good deal with straight forward arm twisting it is not worth it.

no...you're not taking the quote to the dealer that e-mailed you. you take it to dealer B who say they'll beat any quote. let them fight over you. be smart about it, beat them at their own game...

Cheaper AND with factory installed options.

I have not figured out the Toyota system. The SouthEast and the South West are differennt than the mid-Atlantic. The postings I saw earlier on the TCH for California and most all large cities didn't show a different distribution policies; just they didn't seem to value loyalty and asked over MSRP for their cars. Then again, with all the people putting deposits on multiple deals and emailing offers it's no wonder the dealers don't value loyalty. There is no one to one relationship. I guess I enjoy the challange of barganing. But I do want a level playing field. I don't think I'd have a Toyota if I had to deal in certain areas. That's a shame too because Toyota's are good but there are a lot of nice cars out there that do value your business. My Infiniti I traded in is an example. Great service.

I realize you may not actually be asking me to respond on this, but you're just one of many that ask this same type of question.

You at a minimum need to state what state and area you're shopping because:

How do I (or anyone) know if that's a good deal. You're looking at an LE 4cy with NO options other than a moonroof?. Your price includes taxes, etc.... That does not mean anything to me because when I traded for my TCH I paid no taxes because I traded even. In my state the taxes are paid on the difference with the trade. I see many in California I believe paying different taxes depending on where they live.

What you need to do is look at THIS edmunds site so that you know just what is the invoice. Then compare that to what they want for the car. Depending on the area you should be getting a LE4cy for close or within $200 of invoice from what many are stating. The taxes are what they are, you can't change that and it varies from area to area. However I have seen here where dealers are starting to jack up the Doc fees and other items that you don't even see until you visit the business manager to sign papers. THAT's a rip and it's a new one that I had not seen until lately. It would pay to know what are the fees dealers charge in your area. Ask friends that have recently purchased cars at other dealers. If a dealer laughs and says it's the same as their competitors, he may not realize what some of the other dealers are doing, or he may be the one playing the game. The Doc fees should not be over $75 to maybe $100.

Again, I don't know what part of this the taxes make up, but almost $23,000 for a LE 4cy seems steep.

Power toyota Irvine, and Power toyota Cerritos are willing to give at invoice LE, 2007 add about 8% for TTL... but last month 19500 + TTL was really a reasonable price for a hot Car.

I am buying the car in Memphis, TN. Its a company package of Toyota Camry LE 4-CYL with all other standard options, with moon roof. I am not even going for Alloy wheels. The invoice price the dealer gave me is 20800.The doc fees is $385. With taxes everything, he gave a quote of $22,899. I know it can be brought down. But I just want to know how to negotiate for it..???

To truly neogotiate, you have to be willing to walk away. Unless you're really experienced at this (I've had over 35 new cars) I would want a deal sheet from an additional dealer as well to make sure I was getting the best deal. $385 seems high for documentation fees but if it's what other dealers charge it may be all you can do.

Check the invoice at edmunds. If it is $20,800 then I'd be willing to go $21,000 for the car. Again, I don't know what your taxes are so add that to this.

I like the new camry, but there are other cars I like just as well and if the deal is better then I'd go with the better deal. However remember that to calculate if it's a better deal you need to consider reliability and depreciation. You want the better deal over the life of the car.

I just checked and in my zip code area the invoice on a LE (with automatic and moonroof) is $19,964. However with you being in Tennessee, I'll assume that's in Toyota's SouthEast region and they have additional addon's that other areas don't have. You can't avoid them unless you shop for another brand.

    I have ordered Camry LE V6 with the floor mats for $22590 + 8% tax, + $150 doc fees, + $100 registration. Total $24,760
Should be delivered in 3 month (I ordered one Japanese assemble). I know that I could have got $300 cheaper if I would agree to go with the US build model. I was comfortable with the dealer, they did not lie as much as the rest of them. Also, they did admit that they had to buy back 2 Camry’s from their customers (first dealer out of 6 I have visited).
Now I just have to hope that my car would be here in 3 month and that I would get lucky.

I didn't see your post but there is at least one rule:

You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information.

Perhaps your post included some of this info??? That would cause it to be deleted.

Then again, some posts are moved from time to time to appropriate headings and some posts are eliminated when they get "nasty" or too controversial or way off subject.

Curious as to whether there is a solid rationale for ordering the "Japanese assemble" vs. U.S. - known issues/problems, etc. Thinking about getting one, but would like to know if there is anything to worry about regarding just buying off the lot? Thanks.
