What were the exact terms of the lease deal that you saw? $599 a month, and how much cap cost reduction?

    Thanks.

just picked up a new 2004 V8, well almost new, actually a dealer demo with 600 miles on it

    MSRP $66,665 , price $51,498,
VW Credit lease, 36 months, 15 K miles annually, drive off $2,000 (incl. $882 cap reduction) lease payment $544.25 plus tax

very happy so far with the car and the deal

I understand that the current dealer cash back incentives can not generally be applied toward VW Credit leases, but apparently the story is different for demos

I assume with a little luck and searching there might be similar deals out there

How was your experience with your VW Dealer?
  • 95mark9595mark95 Member Posts: 6
    Thanks guys

My experience was very positive. The dealer did an excellent job, very professional, no haggling, great follow up.

Unfortunately this was not my local dealer, so I will have to see another dealer for service. Will see if they can keep up the (surprisingly) good impression I have so far.

Got my W12 Wednesday. I had big time buyers remorse first night but no more. Every time I stop heads turn and people come up and ask about it and are VERY complimentary and inquisitive.

Mercedes, BMW and Lexus drivers become VERY alert when you pass them.

I have people honking at me in traffic jams, rolling down their windows and asking 20 questions, What is it, how much, how fast, whats under the hood???

Came home on the Blue Ridge Parkway today and when in sport mode the car actually tracks very well. It sits down nicely and corners. It takes about an hour of driving to get used to the steering which is not tight - but that's ok - this is an ultra luxury vehicle with an emphasis on power and comfort and it execute really well.

Spent the weekend in a college town and there is nothing wrong with coed's stopping you and telling what a nice car you have. Happened a lot.

    How do I post pictures?

Can you give a breakdown of the $2000 drive off? Does your state have you pay taxes with the monthly payment or on the whole car at time of purchase?
  • billodbillod Member Posts: 31
Does anyone know of any deals on Pheatons in Connecticut? The $544/mo with 15k miles looks pretty attractive. Any dealers in Ct doing deals similar to that?
  • 95mark9595mark95 Member Posts: 6
cap reduction 882, tax on cap reduc. 68, first payment 586, registration 413, dmv 50

In California tax is added to the monthly payment

Thanks for the info. How much was the sales price on the car?

You didn't pay a security deposit or acq fee?

For sure the Phaeton should be marketed better, but not initially to those people who depend on a car to improve their image in the eyes of people they don't know. I have owned 4 Jettas, 1 Passats and a Touareg, and in my wandering years, a microbus. I now own a Phaeton. I bought it as a demo, a V8 with no options except 18 inch wheels. Silver with black interior. I paid 56.900 for it and still have not been able to wipe the grin off my face. I took it up to Atlantic City last weekend to attend an auction and every place I parked it they put it up front so incoming customers could see it. Funny, it looks like a Passat on steroids in pictures but up close it is a better looking car than anything in it's class, except (in my opinion) the Bentley GT. Now who owns Bently again? A little evolution and more of these on the road and no sales pitch will be needed. Maintence is a snap, someone comes to your office to get yours, they give you another Phaeton until they bring yours back. This is for more than just good service, they want to keep the owners of 66-100k cars out of the service bays of VW dealerships. The techs are qualified and service is excellent, it just lacks the boutique feel of a MB or Porsche dealer. Bottom line, I bought the big VW after driving everything, and I still have my Touareg as well, my wife loves it. Sad fact is most buyers in this price range will give up quality for perceived status. The guy who drove a MB diesel for 300k, the entrepaneur who has the bucks but doesn't care what you think, the lifetime customer like me who wants to stay with the brand but would leave in a hurry at the first sign of inattention given this price range, we will buy these and give you a wave as we pass you in the left lane on that cold rainy day.

You have said it well...And by the way...This automobile was designed and built primarily for folks just like you...Volkswagen folks :)

And, of course, if anyone else wants get on board; that is fine as well...

All aspects of my ownership experience have been excellent. Dealer service, attention, and the level of professionalism exhibited have been top shelf. The dealership ain't beautiful but you know what? It doesn't really bother me.

Driving the CL 55 now is like driving a (very fast) truck and I prefer the Phaeton's smooth, quiet, settled feel and posh interior. By the way, mechanically the MB has been OK, not great. Had a lot of quality issues and was in the shop enough that I got a real good feel for their multi million dollar service area!

Every day in the Phaeton I have people asking questions and the compliments are non stop. On the highway it is clear that people, as they approach from behind, are slowing down to check out the car and then maneuver around the car, crossing two lanes to get a look from all angles.

People in Bugs, Jetta's, Golfs and Passats go wild, with thumbs up, honking and waving as though they are cheering on some national hero that will compete with the best in the world.

Anyone having doubts about the mark: Don't be a knucklehead like I was. This is an awesome car in every way. It's uniqueness is only icing on a very impressive cake.

the trick is to be able to combine the cash-back that is out there with a subsidized VW Credit lease

I understand the cash-back can only be combined with the VW Credit lease terms on demos, but if you do find a dealer with a demo, you should end up with a very similar, or better deal, as the cash-back is now at $10,000, which is higher than when I leased mine

since my dealer only had one demo, you won't be able to get the same deal where I got mine (it had 600 miles on it)

Time to junk the sucker before VW loses even more money. Sometimes automotive offerings just do not fly. This is one of those times. 'Nuff said.

From a marketing standpoint, the Phaeton is a loser, but the car certainly seems to be a winner.

At the current deals (on 2004's) -- they should move them. Heck a new Phaeton is now less per month than a Chrysler 300!

    Doh!
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
95mark95, it would be very helpful if you could provide the #'s on your lease.

Did you pay an acq fee or security deposit, etc.

    Thanks.
  • 95mark9595mark95 Member Posts: 6
scott31, posted just about all the numbers previously, but here they are all together:

    2004 V8, demo, 600 miles
VW Credit lease, 36 months, 15,000 miles annually
    MSPR $66,665, price $51,498, Acq. fee $575
Drive off $2000 ($882 cap red., $68 tax on cap red., $586 first payment, $413 reg, $50 DMV)
Residual $35,332.45, $350 turn-in fee at end of lease, monthly payment $544.25 plus tax
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
Thanks for the #'s on your lease.

I borrowed a Phaeton for the weekend. Great car, but the Nav system is the worst I have ever seen or used. Have I got this right, there is no "nearest" feature? I currenly drive an Acura 3.2 TL Type S, and my Nav allows me to select a category (say ATM) and then one of my choices is to find the nearest ones. I couldn't find that option on the Phaeton.

I must also say that the owners manual is terrible. It does not do a good job of explaining things.

Overall I really enjoyed the car (gas mileage sucks, sigh) but I just can't believe the crappy nav system on a $65k car.
  • dweinbergdweinberg Member Posts: 1
I just obtained my new V8 Phaeton (Aubergine exterior, sonnenbeige interior) two days ago, so this is a very early experience posting. My Phaeton has 18" tires, upgraded stereo system, and cold-weather package. I have used the navigation system a couple of times on relatively simple routes in the Baltimore area. My previous car was a Lexus ES300 with a wonderful navigation system (hereafter "N").

I would agree that the Phaeton N is not as good as that on the Lexus. However, it is usable and has some features lacking on the Lexus N. Using the "symbol" option on the NAV menu appears to be the best way to go, at least for me. All at once in the NAV mode in the primary information center screen, I can see my current road, the next road, distance to next road, type of turn on the next road, and distance to destination, plus a simple diagram of the next move when close to that point. In front of me, on the dashboard display, I can see my current road, next road, type of turn on next road, plus declining distance to that turn. Really, pretty good.

If you insist on seeing the route on a map, then select "center on location," and then adjust the "zoom" to about "200 feet" or "500 feet", and you will be able to see the route. True, street names are lacking. I wonder whether the next version of the CD's could solve that problem. It also would be nice if the driver could set a particular zoom distance as a default setting, so you wouldn't have to do it each time.

I would admit that the Lexus system is better because the map mode itself is much clearer and you can see where you are very well even when not actively using the system.

Thus far, I absolutely love the car. My sticker price was a bit over $70,000, and my price (before tax and tags) was $54,300.

are there more at that price...Can you give your dealer name and number. what do you think of 2000 then 730/month 15k/yr 36 months.
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
$730 a month is WAY to much for a Phaeton. I was quoted $575 a month, with nothing down (just 1st, security, taxes, etc out of pocket) for a $70k MSRP Phaeton. You are getting ripped off.
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
I'm sorry to bug you again. How did you get from $66,665 to $51, 498?

The dealer here (who is fantastic) is really trying to get the #'s where I want them, but they said they were told by VW that (even on a demo) they can't combine the $10k off and VW financing.

Did you get the $10k off (plus some off the top from the dealer) AND VW financing on your lease?

What region of the country are you in? The dealer asked me to ask you that. The dealer said that VW's incentives should be uniform across the country, and that if your region is allowing the $10k + VW leasing she will call VW and raise holy heck in order to get me the same deal.

    Thanks again!

Is NOT AVAILABLE when using any of the Special
    Financing options from VW Credit...

There has been very little interest in the Base Model PHAETON priced at $66,655.00 The more popular versions are priced around $72,000.00
  • bobschneiderbobschneider Member Posts: 2
That's odd. I just bought a base model Phaeton V8 with a $66,655 sticker. This has nav, 18 way heated cooled & massage seats, a great stereo, air suspension, xenons, and every other option I'd ever want. The only things extra on the $72K ones my dealer had were an upgraded stereo, a heated steering wheel, a fancier back seat, and fancier paint. The first two are the only things I would have considered paying for, but I wasn't about to pay another $6K for those two options.

The base Phaeton is loaded by any standard, and is a great deal at sticker, and incredible at the deals you can get now - I got over $15K off sticker on mine.
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
vwguild2, yes, I know Edmunds says that you can't have both (the cash and the financing) so I want to know how 95mark95 did his deal

bobschneider, I agree with you 100%, the available options aren't for. $2k+ so I can cool the butts of rear seat passengers that I hardly ever have? $1k+ to upgrade the stereo from 10 speakers to 12? $500 so I can open the car without the key, but I still have to dig it out of my pocket to start it (what idiot thought up that idea). and $1150 so my trunk closes by itself.

    No thanks.

Include Up Graded Sound System, Technology Pkg.,
Keyless Access, & Comfort & Cold Weather...

The reason that the PHAETON is such a great value is as you have stated...it is great without these items, but they have been popular
nonetheless, and certainly the 4 Seat configuration has been popular with those that will wait...
  • vwguild2vwguild2 Member Posts: 113
Sound System upgrade adds 270 Watt amplification and Digital Signal Processing...Rated the Best Sound System available today by LA Car.

The Technology Pkg. includes Electronic Park Assist as well as the Power Trunk...

Keyless Access is just a nice add...

Right now you can get a MSRP 70,412 Phaeton $1000 down 699 a month. There are lots of incentives from Volkswagen and dealers are moving them out. Its a steal at that price!
  • bcaudillbcaudill Member Posts: 2
NY has different programs but in central that holds true 1000 down 699 a month
  • golfgti4789golfgti4789 Member Posts: 20
wow, those are nice deals advertised here, i doubt the dealership is making hardly and profit on these phaetons after what there selling them for, maybe a little on the holdback or the invoice is dirt cheap, lol.

    95mark95 -

I visited a dealer yesterday who had a demo with 900 miles on it, and they claim, demo or not, they can not combine the substantial dealer cash incentives with the VW lease. Mind if I ask what State/City you live in and do you have any suggestions on other information I can use to get a similar deal on this vehicle?

    Thanks.

    Steve
  • vwguild2vwguild2 Member Posts: 113
are national and do not vary by state or county...What you were told is correct...Incentive money cannot be combined with Volkswagen Credit Special PHAETON Lease, Loan, or Driver's Option...
  • 95mark9595mark95 Member Posts: 6
I got mine in San Diego, CA

Don't know what to tell you, as I posted my lease certainly is with VW Credit, I was told that because the car was a demo, it did qualify for the incentive (which were lower when I leased, than they are now). Price for sale or lease was $51,500, my dealer knew exactly what he wanted/needed to get for the car, no question in his mind that he could do a lease, and he had no problem doing so, it was a very smooth process, took less than an hour.

Don't know what was involved on the dealer's side, but it certainly worked in my case.
  • vwguild2vwguild2 Member Posts: 113
You received the benefit of some Inventory support money that Dealers received on the PHAETONs that thay had in inventory, as of Oct. 1st, that exceeded the minimum of 2 required...

Congratulations! Welcome to the VW PHAETON Family!!!

i saw a phaeton v8 for 20,000 of msrp!!!!! thats awesome, if you get a base phaeton, it owuld be the same price as a touareg v8, nice.
  • denverg35denverg35 Member Posts: 54
The $699/mo lease deal that I have seen advertised is based upon a cap cost reduction of $300 and a MSRP of $64,600. As most of the V8s sticker out at around $72,000, should I be able to still get the $699/mo?
  • scott31scott31 Member Posts: 292
The $699 deal is way too high. My dealer is offering a $70k car with nothing down (just 1st, security, taxes, etc out of pocket) for $575 for a 36 month 12k miles per year lease.
  • denverg35denverg35 Member Posts: 54
Thanks---can you share any info about your dealer? I am in Denver, but would be willing to work with a remote dealer to save that much
  • denverg35denverg35 Member Posts: 54
I am ready to lease a 2004 Phaeton---can anyone give me some references to leases less than the $699 advertised on the base Phaeton? I want to negotiate a lower lease if possible

Any help is greatly appreciated---I am in the Denver area, but will look at offers from other regions.

    Thanks!
