"You are not buying a pair of shoes."

Yeah, and I still wouldnt buy a pair of shoes without trying them on, despite the price difference.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
Especially since I wear my shoes more than I drive my car. :)

For the Florida buyers of the G35 coupe, I felt your pain on the "no test drive" (or "we'll let you drive a sedan") and "$1000 non-refundable security deposit" and the "we only sell at MSRP". I encountered all of the previous circumstances at the dealer in my home city of Orlando and also at the biggest dealer in Tampa.

But the good news is that I called and then visited Melbourne Infinity on saturday. They encouraged me to come in for a test drive of a coupe. My wife and I went to the dealer, we both took lengthy unescorted test drives and were offered to purchase an inventory coupe at a few hundred below list. We passed on that offer and ordered exactly what we wanted that day. Although we paid list, we didn't feel too bad about it given the circumstances and knowing we could have paid below list if we were willing to compromise on features, color, etc.
The yahoos at the Orlando and Tampa dealers were arrogant and not the least bit interested in making any compromises to sell us a coupe. the folks at Melbourne weren't concerned about a refundable security deposit for the order because they know they'll sell the car one way or the other. they also offer free pickup and delivery for service within 60 miles of the dealership.
I can see why these guys have won an award as Infiniti's top dealership for service nationwide.
It may sound like I work for the dealership, but I don't. I'm just darn pleased to find a dealership and sales person who cared about having me as a customer.

Traveler, it's nice to know that there is one good dealer in this state. However, I do not want to have to go 180 miles in order to test drive, much less buy a new car. My local BMW dealer took me for a nice long test drive in a 330i with the Performance Package. She even let me drive an M3, just because I said I would like to. It's hard to believe Infiniti outranks BMW in customer service, because I don't see it. Anyway, I take Performance Center delivery of my new 330i in early July. Plus, with BMW's residuals, Money Factor, and MSD program, my payment is the same or slightly less than the G35 would have been, PLUS I get all the money I put down ($5000) back at the end of the lease! I am looking forward to talking with Infiniti of North America and explaining how their superiority complex has lost them a customer.
  • traveler4337traveler4337 Member Posts: 2
I drove the 330i with performance package the week before ordering the G35. Not bad, but I wanted the automatic and didn't care for the checkerboard shiny trim and that alcantara fabric in the 330i, but I'm sure there are some who'll like it. The 330i really scoots and I believe has a better road feel to it and is quiter than the G35. Other than that I love the beemers and am in fact keeping my eye on '98 M3 sedan as a backup in case the G35 order is late.
Interesting to hear about your 330i lease though, as the 330i that I looked at was about $42k with leather and the G35 I've ordered is just at $33k. Now way the BMW lease payment came close, so it sounds like you got a great deal or were comparing a G35 that was much more loaded than the one I'm ordering.
Can't go wrong with the beemers. I think we both landed really good cars. Best of luck.

    Just signed a great lease.
Sedan/auto/leather/Premium package/winter package/trunk mat. MSRP 34085, Invoice 31054. Got it for 31400 with .00154 money factor, 55% RV, 3500 in cap reductions (trade in plus money down) and I will have it for around 360.00 per month for a 36 month term. Shopped around for a long time and spoke with four different dealers. No one came within 900 buck of the guys in Milwaukee (international autos). I am stoked!!!

I went up to the dealers in Cleveland, and both dealerships were hard ball about paying sticker.I told them I was willing to order a 04 model the end of July and wait, but they both said List or the highway. I cannot believe the attitude. Has anyone in Ohio been able to purchase under sticker.?
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
My dealer is wanting MSRP + $895 and getting it. Why should he lower it?
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
I've seen base automatics selling for $26,000. Anyone getting 6 speeds in the $20's?
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
that so many people get the coupe and the sedan confused when talking about them. The Sedan goes for invoice and a little above. The coupe goes for MSRP and above. Insurman was talking about the coupe as signified by the "cp" beside his G35.
  • gpwatfrdgpwatfrd Member Posts: 76
    bigorange30, you are right on...
These cars not only look completely different but they price completely different. I have a G35 coupe and recommended the car to my co-worker. The price he received in NY was 600/month on a lease. Ouch! That makes me feel like I got my coupe for a steal!
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
and what is the best lease deal people have gotten?
  • gpwatfrdgpwatfrd Member Posts: 76
500 per month(including tax) w/ just inception fees up front for 39m,12k. I do not know of anyone who received better numbers than the numbers mentioned above. My wife and I get a great deal on every car we lease but we work hard on these numbers. It's not like we walk into one dealer, ask a price, negotiate for 10 minutes and sign the paper work.
  • jerryjeffjerryjeff Member Posts: 2
I posted earlier. Just picked up my G35 today. I couldn't be more happy with the Service I received at International Autos in Milwaukee. The salesman spent well over 2 hours with us today going over every little detail. I really appreciated his efforts. Furthermore, the dealership delivered big time on the price. No BS, told them what I would pay and they bettered it. Got the car for 31400 with MSRP of 34085. traded in my wife's 94 maxima with 88K and in good condition. Got a few hundred below kelly blue book trade in. Also, put a grand down. When all was said and done walked away owing 360/month for 36. Anyone in the area, I would definitely recommend seeing the folks at International Autos. (and no, I don't work there, in fact I drove 90 miles to get the car.) good luck to all.
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
Why will the dealership NOT let anyone test drive a car? Do you present yourself well and look like a serious buyer? Drive-up in a flashy car and I bet they change their tune. Borrow or rent one if you need to.

Still, do not tolerate this behavior and shop elsewhere. Then, write to Infinity, the BBB and other services to let them know of your negative experiences.

Reading your experiences makes me sick. Glad some of you found other dealers who will work with you and not against you.

Taking delivery this week on G35 sedan, premium, sport, winter, aero, silver/graphite, $31.700. Had him to $31,500, but then I screwed around too long, the car I wanted was sold, and I had to put $200 back in to get him to trade with another dealer for an identical car (I was tired at that point, and still satisfied I had pushed both dealers as far as they would go. I wasn't worried about leaving $200 on the table, I just wanted to be sure it wasn't $1000.)

Somewhat related, what is the story regarding (covered) scheduled maintenance? The first dealer I went to told me all scheduled maintenance was covered up to (I think it was) 3 yr/36K mi. Also told me I'd get a G35 or I35 loaner, even for scheduled maintenance, which I found strange, so I Pressed them on this point, and they assured me that's how they work.

I never had that discussion with the dealer I'll be buying from, however. Thus my question; is this something I need to negotiate for, or do all (or most) dealers do it? The fact that the first dealer brought it up on my first visit had me thinking it was an Infiniti thing.

    Now I'm not so sure.

    Regards.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
Maintenance policies vary by dealer regarding loaners. The only time loaners are "required" by Infiniti would be for warranty work.
  • bilemanbileman Member Posts: 3
O.k... I'm clear on the loaners... how about the oil changes? Are they covered, or does this vary by dealer as well?

    Thanks.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
I don't get mine for free, but I know others have....
  • bilemanbileman Member Posts: 3
    Argh...

Well, he still doesn't have the check. I guess another phone call is in order...

...though to tell you the truth, I've been sitting here running through the main G35 forum, where there is a current discussion re: "free" scheduled maintenance...

I'm starting to think I'd be better off doing oil changes and the one air filter change at my local garage, as I've always done. My guys are good, and we have a *real* relationship. I don't know about the service guys at the dealership. The sales guys love to talk about relationships though!

    Thanks again.

Hi evrybody: I bought g35 sedan auto w/leather (no options) for $27500. I had to haggle for 4 hours before I got this price. Dealership experience was not good (definitely not the luxury car buying experience) though i love the car. I was wondering if i paid too much?? (Considering the fact that 2004's are arriving soon and the dealer had lots of G35 sedans in stock)
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
You did fine. I see used/off-lease '03 sport models for $27,900 firm. No negotiations. They fly off the lot in a day or two since someone else took a little depreciation hit.

Congrads on the car and do not beat yourself with second-guessing!

The more I drive mine the more I love it ('03, used, premium, winter, 6,600 miles every option except sport and navigation).

My dealer performs all scheduled maintenance, provides washes and offers a loaner even on a used car purchase. It is all how you work the deal. I overpayed a little at 29K and change for these ammenities and second-guessed the purchase. They also gave me a heck of a deal on my trade. It is worth it to me to receive good service.

People come out of the woodwork and tell me they can get the same car "new" for that price, but I do not believe them as most edmunds.com posters list 31,500+ for the same car. It is all relative, so just enjoy your new baby!

I'm picking up my G35 coupe tomorrow (LEASED or should I say Fleeced). Should I get the body side molding or window tinting? I need an answer asap. You can e-mail at bravermant@rspab.com.

    Thanks!!!

a Word to the wise, the correct spelling for Infiniti cars is Infiniti. Typing Infinity into the address bar, as in www.infinity-whatever.whatever, will get you to some sites you don't want to be in. I learned the hard way.

After going to every dealer in Ohio and hearing the same story, I finally ordered a 2004 cp.,sticker about 38280. It makes me sick to pay sticker, but one drive in this car hooked me forever. I was very close to ordering a BMW, but even with a discount it would have ran about 5,000 more. I did get the dealer to toss in the side moldings (Yes,you do need these. I have a brother who owns a body shop in N.Y.,he told me I would be nuts not to have them on) trunk mats, microfilter and splash guards. They claimed they are allotted only 4 cars in initial order of 04's which will be placed on July 2 with delivery expected about 9/25.

I took delivery of my G35 Coupe yesterday, 16 June. I'm in the D.C. Metro area, and I purchased the car from an Infiniti dealer in Rockville, M.D. I would never make a purchase at this dealer again, due to their lack of customer service and attitudes, but they were the only dealer that had a car with my specs in stock within 400 miles.

Brilliant silver, graphite leather interior, premium package, trunk mat. MSRP was $34,415 without tax, etc. and I paid $33,898.54 without tax. No processing fees or additional fees. Was this a decent deal?

My only concern is the paint chipping and possibility of scratches or dents. Any advice?

    Tom
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
I can guess who your dealer is. They do have attitude! Are you sure their address is not Bethesda, MD instead of Rockville, MD?

Sounds like they really need to sell as your deal is very good.

Their customer service is sufficient. They will fix the paint chipping and scratches if you approach them with a technical service bulletin. They are practically rebuilding my car and we shall see the quality when, and if, it returns to my driveway.

The TSB site is posted in the general G35 forum. Look in the historical posts, print the TSBs and go to the service department armed with evidence. I think there is one for paint chipping if not mistaken? There is one for almost everything else along with three recall notices (some are the sedan only).

I would worry more about the poor brake pad brake rotor quality than the paint. Order your pads NOW because you will need replacements soon. Infinity replaces the rear pads for free and you can get them to replace the front pads if you persist. I heard a major magazine is publishing an article regarding the G35 brake issue. Prices should drop soon, unfortunately for us current owners if the article is published.

PS..if you go behind the dealership, you will find more than one coupe and MANY sedans. They hide these and say they only have "one or two" in stock.

Most of all, congrats and enjoy your car. The coupe looks wonderful! Wish my wife would let me get one. You will love driving. Most of all, do not let a little "tricked-out" honda civic beat you from a stop light!

I also bought my sedan there, but have not had any problems with them yet (took delivery one year ago next week). keep me updated....
  • thomasb26thomasb26 Member Posts: 3
Thanks for the advice. Your right about the Bethesda address. Will they really fix paint chips? I'll check out the TSB site. It is a great looking car-and although I would rather have purchased from a more customer friendly manufacturer, it's the only vehicle that I truly love the look of. Thanks for the advice,

    Tom
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
They will fix the paint. They contract the job to a third party. The service guys are not as mean as the sales manager. A couple of women behind the service cashier counter are also very pleasant to look at and to deal with :-)

As stated, they do the right thing, but are not proactive. You need to call things to their attention and go to them armed with the TSBs and recalls. My service person is quite pleasant, but seems totally overloaded with work. That is one tough job!

Drive around to the back of the Mall area and you will see all the coupes and sedans. "One or two left" my backside! They have hundreds remaining. What a joke. I saw four coupes this weekend. Did they sell them all in one day?

Let us know how you like the coupe after driving it for a few weeks. It looks awesome!

Hello all! I just made an offer for invoice + $300 via email to a Northern California Infiniti dealership on a G-35 leather automatic and nothing else. Dealer emailed back saying we need to talk. So called the guy; seems friendly on phone. He explained that he would agree to my offer except that the actual "invoice" price was higher than what I found in Kelley and Edmunds web sites. He said there is a "Marketing Assessment Fee" added by Infiniti on all G35s sold in Northern California which raises his "invoice" price by $400.

I know there are all kinds of wheels and deals between the manufacturer and dealers. However, it is usually the manufacturer paying dealers back on part of the purchase price. Has anyone come across this "Marketing Assessment Fee" when they bought their G-35s in CA?

If this checks out, I plan on making the purchase this weekends. So any inputs are much appreciated! Thanks!
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
According to a dealer who posts (and is well regarded) at freshalloy.com, that is a fee that is in place on every car no matter where it was sold. some people choose to debate him on it....
  • norcalguynorcalguy Member Posts: 6
Thanks, cheerioboy! Do you have the link or remember under which topic it was at freshalloy.com? Now, I may believe if the fee is applied to regions where it is expensive to advertise (and it is here in CA!) it smells fishy if the fee is added on to EVERY car. I mean why don't they just raise the invoice price then? But thanks for the input!
  • gpwatfrdgpwatfrd Member Posts: 76
Who was your salesperson? I also purchased my G35coupe from Ray Catena.
  • norcalguynorcalguy Member Posts: 6
Thanks again cheerioboy! Wow can't believe there have been quite a few discussions on this marketing fee over there. Don't see too many here on edmunds. The fee seems real to me now so when people say the G-35 sedans are going for invoice plus a few hundred bucks, it means invoice + destination + marketing + a few hundred bucks!?

glad to see you got the info you needed before my post was deleted. I guess I can post the name of the forum (although that would appear to be unallowable as well) but not a link to it. Oh well.
  • gpwatfrdgpwatfrd Member Posts: 76
I am very happy with the coupe after 1,000 miles but I am even happier with the dealer. They offered better cust service than the Lexus,Audi,Mercedes(Ray Catena) dealer that I have been with. I have yet to hear from anyone who had received a better deal than me on the coupe. Based on my lease price, there is no way that I payed MSRP.If you need a contact there than let me know. It was a pleasant experience dealing with the sales person there.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
Check with other dealerships in and around your area. If they all sing the same tune, you're stuck paying it. If only one or two are saying there's a marketting fee, it's bogus.
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
At least three dealerships in the Washington, DC area do NOT charge the marketing fee. Unless they built it into the price, it was never listed on my quote sheets (both coupe and sedan).

Toyota used to pull this in the early '90s (advertising fee) and soon revisited after sales dropped by a significant number.

    Hello all:

Just traded in my 5AT sedan for a 2003.5 ivory pearl 6MT sedan. Specifics are IP/willow 6MT with premium, splash guards, trunk mat, and aero (rear spoiler only). MSRP was $33,585, I paid $30,625.
  • don725don725 Member Posts: 47
If you don't mind me asking....How many miles did you have on your 5AT and what kind of price did they give you for your trade?

    Thanks,
    Don
  • dfd3dfd3 Member Posts: 57
Sorry for the delay. I was gone over the weekend.

The trade-in value was the thing I wrestled most with. As you know, Edmunds, NADA, and KBB have no trade-in values posted yet for the G35 because of it's newness. So, I had a real hard time figuring out what a fair trade value would be. I searched many used car sites for comparable retail used values and found the most info on Carmax.com. They regularly show 3-5 used G35s with "no haggle" prices of $29-31K. There have been several dealer ads in the past weeks here in the DFW area at about the same range. My current 5AT sedan has 26,000 miles, a bit high for a one year old vehicle. I am thinking that the dealership will put my car on their used car lot and easily sell it for $28,000. or so. They offered me $26,000 even on the trade. I could have probably held out for a little more, but remember, they are selling me the new 6MT loaded sedan (w/o nav) at invoice with no haggling AT ALL. Incidentally, I took it to carmax to get an appraisal and they offered me substantially less. I mean substantially.

So, did I get the best value for my trade? Probably not, but the alternative was selling it myself which would have resulted in substantially higher sales taxes on the new one. I only paid sales tax (6.25% here in TX) on the difference. So all in all I think I did okay. What do you think?
