They didn't concentrate on the engine solely, but rather the entire drivetraine and platform. Granted, they did cut some corners on the interior, but it's still pretty darned good. I don't think it'll fade in a few years. I think this is a turning point for Infiniti, and you'll see that they're making a big comeback.

So far my best deals in the SF bay area were $300 under MSRP at Infiniti of Pleasanton, $500 off at myinfiniti in Seaside and Cutter Motors in Santa Barbara.
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
So far, my best deal is $31,500, winter with full spare. Any thoughts on if this is a good deal? Thank you.

Has it achieved Lexus levels of quality and refinement? Not on your life.

Um, you don't buy a G35 to be swaddled in boredom ala Lexus.
  • yeknomsyeknoms Member Posts: 3
    FYI...Carsdirect is offering 03' G35 MT6 CPE $1500 under MSRP!!!
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Bear in mind that Carsdirect.com goes by ZIP code. Try 90506 (Southern California) and you'll find the target price is the same as MSRP.

Is it me or are people just too hung up on price. If you really love this car why not just buy the damn thing and get on with the enjoyment of driving it. $1500 dollars is less than $1 over 5 years.
  • yeknomsyeknoms Member Posts: 3
Well, you also can said it's less than a quarter over 20 years. Sorry, I should have mention that it's in the east cost. I feel for you 90506 zip code for not getting the deal and who said I brought this car? I was just trying to help D. Trump. :)

Unless you have an exotic car, you will get screwed on resale no matter what car it is.

The dealers are currently paying between 24K and 26K for loaded 2003 G35 sedans (low mileage) at auction. Add the markup and you will pay 2K - 4K more.

Carmax cannot purchase at the same premium auctions. Therefore, the best place to sell your G35 is there. Of course, this is if you do not want to sell to a private party.

Um, you don't buy a G35 to be swaddled in boredom ala Lexus.

Quality and refinement is not the same as boring.

Besides...what's the point of a flashy interior? So you can look at it, and think mmmmmm, flashy? No. Usability and quality comes before flashyness. Flashy turns into looks-like-hell if the paint peels off.

Want to see an interior that is flashy *and* ultra high quality? Go sit in an Audi TT.
  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
Kelley Blue Book would disagree but what do they know about car pricing?

KBB has G35 prices out? Where?

Go ask Terry over on the "Real World Trade In Values" forum what he thinks about KBB (and Edmunds, and NADA).
  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
    Which lexus do you own.

I had a 1998 SC 400. Incredible car. Sent it back to the [non-permissible content removed] I bought it from 'cause it had been wrecked, otherwise I'd still have it. I loved that car. Every aspect of that car was perfectly executed. Before anybody starts screaming it handled like a pig....yeah...it did...that's exactly how they designed it, for a smooth ride.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has recently bought a new G35 COUPE in any of the following markets: Lexington,KY; Louisville,KY; Knoxville,TN; or Cincinnati,OH would post a brief account of his/her/their experience and what was paid (in terms of amount over invoice or under MSRP, PLUS any markups like marketing fees, doc fees, packs, etc.) Many thanks in advance
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
Anyone know what the dealer holdback is on the G35 Sedan, or any other specials being run by Infinit. I do know they are now offering 1.9% and 2.9% financing now, but would greatly appreciate knowing about any other deals right now as will buy in the next two weeks. Thank you.
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
Dealer Holdback is not a special that a dealer runs. Dealer Holdback is money that the manufacturer pays to the dealer when he sells the car. This is not listed on the invoice or disclosed to the buyer in any way. Only places like Edmunds will tell you what it is. It is usually 2 or 3% (varies by manufacturer) and evaporates if the car sits on the lot for some time because the dealer has to lease the land that he parks cars on. That payment is paid every month whether a car is sold or not so if it sits for to long, that car's portion of the lease payments become more than the holdback for that car.

I think your question is about incentives or rebates.
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
Got it, any incentives or rebates out there other than the low financing incentive? Thanks.

.....‘Unless it's the convertible 430 then i cant imagine anything other than your proud ownership led you to consider making a stmt that lexus is so far ahead in some way over infiniti..which way by the way?’.....

uhmm… have you ever looked at a Lexus GS… next to a G35. Looks pretty damn similar to me. And when did Lexus design this, uhmm… lets say 1998? Take a look from the front, side and back, and you will notice some very very strong similarities on the outside…

Interior, ride, etc.. is a different story, depends on what you like. you like a tight ride, you'll like infiniti. you like refinement, you'll side with Lexus. everyone has different tastes, no use arguing back and forth.

Folks, the purpose of this discussion is for those who have recently purchased a G35 to share their experience with the buying process.

The Smart Shopper board is a good place for holdback, incentive and rebate questions, and some of these other messages would fit nicely into the general discussion about the Infiniti G35.

The search tools on the left side of the page will help locate appropriate discussions. In fact, if you haven't tried a search lately, check it out -- it has been recently enhanced and is just super!

As always, feel free to drop me an email if I can help you find anything.

Can anyone respond to this post: hollenhorst2 Aug 9, 2003 2:53pm?

Just thought I'd share my experience. I used this website and carbuyingtips.com a lot when I purchased my Honda Accord. I was able to get a great deal on that car.

Today I went out to help my mom buy the G35! What a beautiful car! Wish I had been negotiating for me. I didn't have much time to research, but I knew people were having a hard time getting close to invoice, and in some cases, it seems to be difficult to get the car for much less than MSRP.

Anyhow, I contacted the internet/fleet manager and worked with him. After much, much haggling...a break for lunch, and a near walk-out, I was able to get the car for $500 over his invoice price (which included a $400 marketing assessment fee, which is total BS and I made a real stink about it!) He originally wanted $1,500 over invoice. I think we did ok...I hope we did. We paid $31,100 for the desert platinum/graphite leather interior, w/premium package, and a trunk mat or something ;) [this is before T & L, of course!] MSRP was 33,450 (or something like that) I think it came out to about $33,900 out the door. I still wish I had been able to do better. But my parents are real happy (well, especially my Mom who is going to be so freak'n styling in that car) I really hope I did good for her sake. Let me know what you guys think :)

    Thanks & happy shopping all!

I live in Houston, and just finished buying my G35 Sedan from Dallas. I got the twilight blue with the graphite interior. MSRP was $37000, and I got the car for $34000. I got the Premium, Navigation, Winter, Aero, and Sports Package. I think that is about $800 over invoice, which is about the best I could find down here. I am happy and waiting for arrival on Tuesday!

I know well what the gs lexus looks like and is all about. My car enthusiast best friend has owned lexus and toyotas for his whole drving life. I spent 6 months debating with him about what both of us would buy last year. He wanted G but got GS300 as he has three kids and back was wider for carseats. I got to spend months driving his GS300 and getting to know it before I purchased. So while it's a wonderful car, he and I agree on these items.

    1) G is better handler and has much better power
    2) GS is luxury and not for throwing into turns
    3) Parked next to each other they have similarities and many differences too. One is not the other when you look at trees and not the forest. But neither of us minded the comparisons to each others cars and we both felt complimented when one brought up the other.
    4) Both are equally well put together and GS has more refined interior...but he likes mine more. The front seat of the GS has some issues for 6'5" guys even for a big car...the dash is huge...and the AARP must have been involved in button and control design as they are huge.
    5) Both are awesome cars but shouldn't be compared for performance. Lexus has nothing on design or performance over G.

Now my comments are - lexus is great - but on the items we were willing to pay for..kids not withstanding...lexus has nothing on G. If you want to feel good in a luxo car...lexus is for you. The middle ages fast and furious should go to infiniti dealer...and the GS has been out since early 90's with minor revisions to appearance.

Not sure lack of handling prowess or power on one car equates to a lack of refinement in the other...we were both at a loss to find any lack of refinement in either car. My bud did mention he was bummed he had to pay the extra 5-7k for that dealer service and refinement he thought he could get from infiniti... if he would stop feeding his kids cheezesteaks every night.

You received a wonderful deal. Used G35 sedans are selling for two thousand under your price. They started at $1,500 above and you got it for $1,000 less. Very good for a new car. I also like your color choices.

I was just quoted $1500 over invoice for a 2004 6MT sedan. I wanted to know if this is a good price, or how much lower should I try for?
  • g_frantzg_frantz Member Posts: 2
I just picked up my 2003 6MT sedan yesterday. Got it in twilight blue (which only recently became available again), with willow leather, Premium Package, Winter Package, trunk mat. Total price 32K. The '04s are going up in price versus the '03 but they come standard with heated seats.

i have owned my g35 since last july and i am on my 4th cd changer. each time the problem has been that cd-r's get jammed in the changer. i know that it say's in the owners manual that they "may" jam the changer but you can't read the owners manual till after you own the car and the salesperson never mentioned it. all i own is cd-r's. i buy all my music off the web and burn them myself. how can such a technologicly advanced car NOT PLAY THESES THINGS!!!
i have have been round and round with infiniti and they have basiclly told "to bad, it's in the manual".
in the last 8 yrs i have owned 2 Q45's and a QX4, this will be the last infiniti i own because of their lack of concern for the problem and their failure to address it.
if i sound pissed it's because of the way the regional manager addressed the problem (did nothing) and after countless telephone calls and 3 registered letters the home office in CA has not responded.

We are glad to have you as a new member of the Town Hall, and I hope someone might have some advice for you.

But please don't post the same message in multiple G35 discussions. Most G35 enthusiasts keep track of all the G35 discussions, so you don't have to worry about visibility.

If anyone has advice for masterchef, please respond to him in either the main G35 topic or the Problems & Solutions one.

Let's keep this discussion focused on the topic at hand - thanks.

In the Atlanta area - I've been quoted a no haggle price of 2% over invoice for Sedan. Opinions? Good price or should I wait awhile longer until the 04 is avail and then try again on an 03? Thanks!
  • fastwheelsfastwheels Member Posts: 1
I'm in Atlanta and one dealer this Sunday offered to sell at $500 over invoice, so I think your deal isn't bad if you are otherwise satisfied. I didn't buy the car because I didn't get the color.
  • adpcsadpcs Member Posts: 59
    Minman,
The Twilight Blue G35 that I got is a 2003.5 model. I heard the prices will go up slightly on the 2004, but only because some of the items are going to become standard.
  • mwhdevmwhdev Member Posts: 13
I picked up my new G this weekend. I leased the car for various reasons and got a good deal. I got it with the Premium and Sports pkgs. $31,200: 36 months 15K miles a year. $2K driveoff and the payments (including all taxes) $452/month.

I love the car, the drivetrain is INCREDIBLE!

2004 G35 Coupe and Sedan pricing is available on http://infinitinews.com. Also the Infiniti web site (http://www.infiniti.com) now has 2004 models avaiable in the "build and locate" feature.

just bot my wife a 2003 g35 coupe and got it for 1800.00 off of invoice, demand for the car is definitely going down, 2 months ago the same dealer told me that they were selling at sticker or more...

I just put down $1000 deposit on a 2004 G35 Sedan W/Leather, Auto, Premium package, Wood, Trunt Mat for $31,700. I was looking for a 2003.5 same options but they don't have it (only 2 2003.5 left), so they suggested 2004. I am very happy with the pricing and buying experience. If it's OK, I want to mention the sales lady's name: Martha Martinez from Ray Catena Infiniti (Center NJ).

I contacted the dealer through email first and then I showed up this morning without fixing any price. Not a very good practice normally:), but Martha was professional and we settled on 31,700 very quickly. No haggle at all. I am very happy.

I know I could get 2003.5 for lower price, but this is 2004 people! I was told it already sit in the port and I can pick it up next week. Can't wait:)

Tell me what you think and thanks to Edmunds and everyone in the town hall. I learnt a great deal from this site and you guys.

I will update you when I pick my 2004 up next week.
  • jaffmanjaffman Member Posts: 53
Hope this doesnt burst your bubble, but, if its in the "port" now, there's no telling when the car will arrive at the dealership. I put a deposit on a G35 coupe that the dealer told me was "in the port" about two months ago. I still hasnt come in. Every time i go into the dealership, they tell me that the car should be in "by the end of the week". I finally gave up, and ordered my coupe from Grubbs Infiniti in Texas. Its on a truck, and will be here in a couple of days (I live in NY) Sorry to be a bubble burster, but, thought you should know what youre up against before you wait months on end like i did. If the dealership wasnt "invoiced" for the car, they arent getting it anytime soon. Good luck to you in any event.
  • g35_wangg35_wang Member Posts: 21
the dealer already has the VIN number. I signed a retail order. Doesn't that mean that they will get the car soon?

What do you think of the price? Thanks again for telling me your experience. Truth is always welcome :)
  • jaffmanjaffman Member Posts: 53
Actually, as I understand it, the dealer doesnt have "control" of the car until it is actually invoiced for it. To begin with, usually, dealers are satisfied with a $500 (not $1000) deposit. Secondly, when the dealer says that they "have a vin#", that simply means that the car has been allocated to that dealer. The dealer knows its going to receive that car to sell or lease, but, there's no telling when the car will actually arrive at the dealer. It comes down to this... if the dealer doesnt have the invoice for the car, they really cant tell when its coming in, regardless of what they tell you. They are just giving you optimistic estimates of the car's arrival. Truly, I hope you get your coupe in the shortest time possible. Im waiting on mine to come from Texas (im in NY), and I feel your pain. Never have i had such a hard time getting a car!
Regarding price, when I was looking into sedans, the best price I got was $500 over invoice, and the worst was $1000 under MSRP. Dont forget the 2004 models will be arriving any day. Suggest also looking at www.FreshAlloy.com for more info.
Keep us posted. I hope the dealer accepts my pessimism as a challenge, and gets your car to you with all due haste! Good luck.

So I went in the other day to purchase a 2003 G35 6MT w/leather Coupe (wanted premium package and 4piece aerokit w/spoiler) with the best intentions and hard facts on invoice, TMV, and MSRPs. PLAN: tell the first guy I am going to test drive and if I like I will buy for $x over invoice and we'll to paper work and both be on our way in an hour. REALITY: gave schpeal(sp?), guy says they can't go below MSRP on "that" car. Probably should have walked, but I haven't driven the car(ah,the hook). A tragically long story short, I DID manage to wheel & deal him down to ~$37000 for the afore mentioned package that also had things I did not need (nav, xm sat, chrome wheels, etc) but I couldn't swallow the terms for a car that didn't have exactly what I wanted nor the price I expected to pay. ENTER the lease notion...another long story short: $1200 down, $538 a month, 48 months, 48K, ~$19000 residual. Not being prepared for lease dialogue (and apparently, not prepared for purchasing), I still think I got a "fair" deal. Someone please tell me if I don't deserve the title Dr.Deal. (thanks for reading all this)
  • mrman_3k3mrman_3k3 Member Posts: 17
So from what I have gathered, is $500 over invoice what I should be looking at for a 2004 6MT sedan? As of now, I have three dealers that have committed to at most $1,000 over invoice but I think I could do better. I was shooting for $600-750 over invoice, but I am not sure. $500 does sound good to me though. Plus I was thinking that the dealer would get to keep their holdbacks or whatever it is, so they are still making a good profit.
  • dk10438dk10438 Member Posts: 3
i dont mean to burst your bubble, but you can get the coupe for below msrp, i got my wifes at 1800 below msrp. i put 3000.00 down, my payments are 613 per month to BUY the car X 60 months, true, hers isnt quite as loaded as yours but....

I live in MA and would like to hear if anyone has had experience with ordering new cars from dealers in the Boston area -- did the car arrive when they said it would? I have never ordered brand new I usually buy off the lot. But the best deal I could get on an '03 w/premium, aero & wheel pkg. was $1,500 off MSRP. On an '04 I can get $500 off MSRP and figure the depreciation on a car that is 1 model year old makes it worth paying more and getting the '04 -- anyone getting better than $500 off MSRP on coupe 5A '04s? By the way as far as I can tell the '04 pricing on the automatic (Base $31,550) is the same as '03 except for the wheel pkg. which went from $650 to $900. See www.infinity.com or Edmunds for '04 pricing. Also read an article that they have improved the CD changer and added a tire pressure monitor system on the '04. On the 6MT leather they also put in a new front console which adds a center armrest and additional cup holder.

We went into a local dealer (SF Bay Area) to get a good deal on an '03 G35 Sedan, fully-loaded. But then we fell in love with the Diamond Graphite color, new for '04 on the sedan. To our surprise, we were able to negotiate for an '04 at the same levels we expected for an '03. We got an '04 Diamond Graphite with the graphite interior, the Premium Package and the Navigation System (it is incredible fun) for $34,000, before tax and license. This is about $2,000 below MSRP. We may be the first people in California driving this particular car with this color! Also the '04 has heated seats, 17" alloy wheels, an improved 6-disc CD changer and a full-size spare tire. Very happy so far (well it's only been one day).

I'm sorry I didn't read ramib1's post before we went to the Peninsula Infiniti dealer in Redwood City. I had just as bad of an experience at this dealership. I am looking for a 2003 G35 Sedan with Nav, Prem package. His first offer was MSRP and we countered with an offer lower than invoice price. He kept telling us how wonderful a car the 2003 was because it was the Motortrend car of the year and how the 2004 would be 6-8% higher in price. We kept asking for a better price from the dealer and the best he could offer was $891 below MSRP. We know for a fact that another Infiniti dealer in the area is advertising a price of $2800 less than MSRP for the exact same car without any haggling so we told this dealer at Peninsula he must be joking. He refused to budge so we left. We went to look at another dealership and met another guy shopping for a G35 who had a similarly bad experience at this Peninsula Infiniti dealership in Redwood City. I would definitely not waste your time here even though they have a lot of 2003 cars left.
By the way, the MSRP pricing on a 2004 is NOT 6-8% higher than a 2003. According to the stickers on the cars on the lot for a G35 sedan, the MSRP on 2003 model is $30100, MSRP on 2004 is $29650 but remember that the 2004 model includes standard heated seats and front mirrors (which was an option on the 2003 for $650 (MSRP) as a winter package). MSRP on Premium package on a 2003 is $3200, on a 2004 is ($3050 without a full size spare tire and $3200 with a full size spare tire). If anyone found a reasonable SF Bay area dealer, please let me know. I think I may now lean towards a 2004 instead.

Congratulations southbay owner! I bought an '04 coupe 5A on Saturday. The dealer gave us $1500 off MSRP. Car is being prepped and I pick it on Wed. -- can't wait! I went with the black/graphite, wheels, aero, premium and nav. pkgs. Did not want the nav. but am encouraged to hear you are having fun with it. If anyone is looking for an Infinity in the Boston area I have had an excellent experience at Kelly Infiniti.
  • southbayownersouthbayowner Member Posts: 2
Hi Carby, well yes by coincidence we did buy the '04 G35 at Peninsula Infiniti and had an excellent buying experience, they offered the same price as I was offered on an '03 at Frontier Infiniti a few weeks earlier. Actually those two dealerships are under common ownership. So I would say the '03 models should definitely be at least $2,000 to $2,500 below MSRP at this point.
