Yeah, that's the hard part. ie.. Having a new car w/ no real baseline. When I read your first email, I was thinking 26-27k. A good deal is relative. If "you" feel good about it, then it's a good deal. Weighing the options of selling the car vs. trading it in, taxes and all. I think you did fine.

Carmax isn't as agressive as they used to be. My Infiniti dealer gave me more for my Lexus trade than Circuit City : } would give me.

Are you having fun w/ the manual? Stupid question, I know you are.... Enjoy!

    Don

Do you like the manual over the automatic?

I got a used G with 6,600 miles on it - Price was 29K and change plus a nice trade. After the fact, two dealers told me the used G Sedans are flying off their lots at a price point of one to two thousand below original invoice. They have no reason to lie since I already have the car. The prices of $29 - 31K seem to be what the market is currently bearing. 26K for your trade with 26,000 miles seems very reasonable.

The used coupes are another story and still command a price close to sticker..

    Nice pics, don, btw...

Thank you, ryoken, msiseng and especially cheerioboy for your advices! I raised my offer to invoice + $500 which is the dealer's "invoice" (including the $400 marketing fee) + $100. The guy did not appear to be interested...oh well...

I did get more quotes on line, mainly from dealers in southern CA. Some of them were very close to my price range (within $100). Unfortunately I would have to fly down to get it. I will post an update if that happens.

    Thank you all!

All 2003 G35 sedans are $200 over invoice before a $400 marketing charge. Infiniti Tustin. Helped my Dad pick out a base Desert Platinum/Willow with sunroof for $31K total drive off. No haggling at all thru the Internet Department

Yes, I did buy at Grubbs. Yes, I am having fun with the manual. I do not typically find myself in alot of stop and go traffic, so the manual is not a problem. In fact, to me it makes the 3.5L engine come alive. Gears ratios for 1-5 are very close, so the engine tends to stay in it's powerband. When I initially test drove the 6MT, I was amazed at the difference in the "seat of the pants" feel of the car. I really felt those 260 FP's of torque. The tough thing now is waiting until 1200 miles to open it up. As all G35 owners know, this engine really likes to rev, so I have to watch the tach. The shifter has a very short throw and shifts are a short "snick-snick". It feels very precise to me. If you are a 5AT owner and have not driven the 6MT I highly recommend doing so.

I live in the NYC/metro area. Dealer wants to lease to me a G35 sedan, premium, NAV, Wood, Splash Guards, Trunk Mat 2004, 12K miles/yr, 36 month, zero down, for $575/month. Is this a good deal? Anyone get a better deal? If so, where from? Thank you, in advance.

I paid $26,150 for a Base Model in Houston Texas.
Desert Platinum/Willow cloth (No Options required)
Purchase in 12/31/02 Prior to Price increase. Base Price $27,100 with $ 950 off + Freight Tax and Tags.
What a value for all the standard equipment, safety features, and Infiniti Warranty
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
You can probably do a lot better. I leased a 2003.5 sedan, premium/wood/NAV for 36 months, zero down, 15,000 miles per year for $514.15 per month. Since the lease price is based on the sales price, you still need to haggle. Sticker on mine was $35,715 and dealer sold to me for $33,524.

    Good luck.
  • jaffmanjaffman Member Posts: 53
Thank you, coolpop. When did you begin your lease? Currently, Im price shopping at various dealers... we will see if one of them has more room on the price. There aren't any G35's with NAV in my area that havent been sold. Maybe thats whats making my price so hi?
The dealer suggests i get all weather tires. does the tire type make a difference in the ride? Thank you, and any others, for your input.
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
Started mine 12/17/02. One thing that I left out, however, is that I got my lease through my credit union, which may or may not make a difference (except in the trust category). This credit union lease is awesome, I even took the paperwork home for 3 days just to find the holes in it, and there were none. Very low APR and they even pay the GAP insurance. Plus, and this is the best - no early termination penalty.

As far as the tires are concerned, your choices for this car are severely limited in the stock size of 215/55/17. If you stay stock, make sure the dealer puts on the Bridgestones if your car doesn't already have them. Stay away from the Goodyears. I went to 235/50/17, which is about the only other size that fits properly, and got the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Very pricey but worth it IMHO. Quieter than the Bridgestones and also has a better ride.

    Hope that helps.

I am interested in one, possibly two G35s, buy one, lease one. Sedan, premium package, winter package with full spare - for both. Would greatly appreciate feedback about the price and the money factor in the lease. Thanks to all.
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
I thought Xenon headlights were included in the premium package - at least that is what we were told by the dealer. But, my research on the internet seems to indicate otherwise. Any thoughts?? Thanks to all.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
Xenons were an option in early sedans (the "2003" models) but all sedans made since about September (the "2003.5") model have Xenons as standard equipment. I believe the coupe has always had Xenons standard.

I am being qouted $800 over invoice and will try to push it to $500 tomorrow for any sedan on the lot. Has anyone else been able to do any better?
    Coupes are still at MSRP
    Thanks
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
pay 500 at most. I think inv+250 might even be doable. I must say the G is a nice car had one for a loaner while my fx was getting serviced nice ride, quick and outstanding handling.

$200 over invoice in Tustin Infiniti. My Dad bought his there. Awesome car so far. Still breaking it in.
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
Thanks for the information above. Are you using Edmunds invoice, the tmv price, what are you using as invoice for the G35 Sedan, and with what options. Thank you all again, this has been very helpful.

I just ordered (probably a 3-4 week wait) a 2003.5 G35 Sedan with wood, Nav, winter, and premium package for $33,912.00. This price also includes an Infiniti spoiler installed by the dealer. What do you guys think of this price?

    Thanks
  • nickp48nickp48 Member Posts: 16
I know of one Infiniti dealer for sure who is discounting the 2003 G35 Coupes. I went in to look at one a month ago, and they refused to go below MSRP. I decided to walk out, because I was pretty sure the situation would change fairly soon. The salesman has now been calling me almost everyday for the last week. He is telling me they are now discounting the cars, because they didn't sell a single coupe in the three weeks following my visit! After my first visit, I started looking at other cars in the same class, and now I'm not so sure these cars will be good for the long-term. I plan to keep the car I buy for five years, and I'm not sure the resale value on these cars will be so good by then. It seems to me that these cars are a hot ticket right now but may fade out in few years. Anyone have an opinion?

I know i'm probably the only women seeking help on this message board, but here it goes. I've been researching purchasing a new vehicle. Never in my life have I ever paid MSRP. I am finding all my local dealers in Southern Cal. telling me they can't sell me a G35 coupe for under MSRP. Is that the case? If you all know of any dealers willing to deal please share.
  • texanbratttexanbratt Member Posts: 14
Where is the dealership willing to deal G35 coupes?
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
You should try a dealer in Texas. I would try Grubbs Infiniti I got a great deal there on my FX35.
  • texanbratttexanbratt Member Posts: 14
I am sorry I meant to include i'm looking for a dealer in Southern California who's willing to deal on a G35 coupe. Thanks for the information regarding Texas though. :)
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Grubbs will ship cars nationwide. Many people from as far away as seatle and NJ have bought from grubbs. request a quote via the internet and ask for shipping to be included. worst case shop this quote with your local dealers to keep them honest. Good Luck :)

Try Midway Infiniti in Phoenix. It's not CA, but it's a lot closer than Texas. They'll give you the runaround for a while, but be firm and they'll come around. It sounds like they'll probably settle for close to invoice at this point. They seem to be getting pretty desperate to sell their remaining '03s.
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
Offer is $31,500 for premium package, winter pacakge with full spare, all the mats that I can carry (lol). I think it is about $500 too much, but would greatly, greatly appreciate any thoughts? Thank you all again.

Hello! New to this forum. I have an offer for auto sedan with premium, nav, sport and winter for $33797. Do u think this is a fair price? The car is ready immediately.
    Thnaks
  • leslieh1leslieh1 Member Posts: 14
If you look at the math, we have the same deal - nav and sport adds about 2K. I am trying to break through that barrier a little bit more, it may help to wait unitl August.
  • hey1hey1 Member Posts: 7
I have a deal for $33,912, which includes premium, nav, winter, wood, and a spoiler. Its pretty close to your deal, but the spoiler is approx. $600 alone flat fee (dealer installed). The only problem with my deal is that the car will be another 2 weeks before it gets here. U said the car is ready immediately. Where are u located, and what color is your car?

    Thanks
  • ja53ja53 Member Posts: 2
I acutally didn't want the spoiler (In my opinion, it doesnt flow with the rest of the car like the one on the Z does, for example), but wanted the sport suspension. This was hard to find and except for one dealer, all said I could never have the sport w/o the spoiler. This made it somewhat harder to bargain with the dealer that offered me the above quote. I'm located in NYC. The car is Black/Graphite. I actually had my friends call various dealerships to see if they could get a better price and no one could match the offer. So, looks like this may be it.

    Nickp48,
Would you mind telling me what Midway was offering for a G35/coupe with navigation, premium package, areo package etc. The works. LOL I sent them an e-mail and of course it's just gone back and forth with what are you looking for I think i've got one, but there's been no mention of price yet.
    Thanks for your help.
  • nickp48nickp48 Member Posts: 16
We got pretty close to invoice. I would offer them $35k. That's about $400 over invoice. Keep reminding them that the '04s will be out very soon. They also try to throw on a few extra hundred dollars for some kind of coating that they automatically spray on and then redo every six months. I would refuse to pay for this if I were you, since you won't be driving all the way to Phoenix every month to get it redone. It's really unnecessary anyway. It's just another way for them to make extra money. Let me know how it turns out.
  • texanbratttexanbratt Member Posts: 14
    Nickp48,
I offered Midway 35K they wouldn't take it. The best they would give me is 1K off MSRP. So, I said no thanks. I'm actually going to purchase a resale G35coupe from a private party. The only thing i'm not thrilled about is that it is in Utah and i'm in Southern Cal. It should be a nice test drive home though. LOL I'm looking forward to picking it up next weekend. Did you purchase a G35 coupe or were you just looking?

Am in a slight quandry as to which way to go. My thinking is that this is end of model year and dealers in So. Calif are asking MSRP. I can order 04 to my specs and hopefully also pay MSRP which will be the same as o3 price or maybe a few hundred more. Any thoughts appreciated. Have founfd Thousand Oaks Infiniti fleet dept good people. $300 over invoice on sedan and MSRP on Coupe.
  • nickp48nickp48 Member Posts: 16
I'm a little surprised Midway wouldn't discount more based on my phone conversations with them. That's great that you found a used '03 like you wanted, since you won't lose the new car depreciation. I didn't end up buying a G35. I didn't want to pay MSRP, so I've decided to buy a Volvo S60. I think it's more appropriate for me, since I want to keep the car for 5 years.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Call me dense (and many people do) but why would the Volvo be more suitable? Infiniti aren't exactly known for their poor build quality.
  • nickp48nickp48 Member Posts: 16
Infiniti cars are known for having poor resale value. I like the G35 coupe, but I think it is just the hot car of the moment. I think people will have moved on after a few years, which will cause the premium to be gone. There is a better market for used Volvos than used Infiniti's. I have also heard opinions that Infiniti concentrated so hard on the G35 engine, that the quality of the rest of the car was forgotten. The car looks great, so it's easy to forget about the long-term ramifications. That's what Infiniti is banking on.
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
You think the G car is the hot car of the moment.

I'd say its a long term trend setter and the most desirebale of all the cars in this class for the enthusiast crowd...And will be there for a long long time in various forms....it's the first true japanese sports sedan and the revival of the 240 in the coupe...that's a little more than hot for now.

I'm not saying it's not a good car, but I don't think resale value will be very good after a few years. Most people that want a car like that will not want to buy one that is 4 or 5 years old, and people that would be interested in it after that long will not want to pay a lot for it. These cars are better for people that only keep their cars for one or two years.
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
And the G interior is awesome imo and alot of others...there are no quality issues that i have with the car. Willow leather with titanium while a little modern for some is classy as the classy volvo or VW or Audi which I used to prefer. I expect a rock solid car interior included for 7 years without problems. There is little indication that any problems are to be expected...i have a minor scrath on the titanium door handle - thats it in 13k miles.

Not to turn the tables but no volvo really is similar to a G sedan or coupe. The R is not there in terms of handling or road feel quality - it not a true sports sedan from experience and expert opinion taken wiht a grain of salt.

Read the forums on swede cars...volvo and saab are in a rough way and some speculate both thier demise. I have mentioned in those forums however that the swede makers have cult like followings..saabs are less followed than volvo but even more cult like people cling to the philosphy - that will end when they realize that the platform for 93 is shared with the malibu coming out and the new grand am. Volvo will be around i suspect as long as they have the brand image of safety - Hell the boxy cars sold too - remember when the guy that played Arthur did a movie as an ad exec and he was going crazy and did a volvo ad..."Hey they are boxy but they're good". The image sure outlasts the substance - at least they are still safe and not boxy any more.

I drove a G35c, I liked it....but I still came to the conclusion that the G35c is a half baked effort. Does it have good feedback and road manners? Yep. Has it achieved Lexus levels of quality and refinement? Not on your life. The looks of this car won't age well either....
Lack of quality and refinement....Orange peel out the [non-permissible content removed]; cheap leather; illogical, poorly placed controls; teeeny trunk; mediocre instrumentation....they didn't even move the main controls for the radio (volume button) and A/C (temp button) to the driver's side of the console. This car will follow the time honored Infiniti tradition of lousy resale.

Would I buy one? Only after its depreciated....
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
I can't believe Volvo people are harping on resale. I guess that is why I can get their flagship sedan the S80-T 2000, 40k miles for 18-20k that is almost a 50k car new. Come on tout safety, european build quality whatever but volvo resale is horrible. An accord or civic holds a greater percentage of it's value than any volvo. the only exception may be an xc90. Price an s40 lately I can still find new '01's.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Oh no! A stretch of 6 inches to get to the volume control of the radio! Lets forget about the one that's on the steering wheel. Cheap leather? Compared to what else in the price range. Looking at the ES300 outside, I guess not Lexus. Teeny trunk? Hello? This is a coupe. Mediocre instrumentation? I'd rather have two large clear clocks and two gauges that the cluttered mess on the IS300. As for lousy resale, Kelley Blue Book would disagree but what do they know about car pricing?
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
Which lexus do you own. Unless it's the convertible 430 then i cant imagine anything other than your proud ownership led you to consider making a stmt that lexus is so far ahead in some way over infiniti..which way by the way? And the lexus 430 convtible may be the best car money can buy for less than 70k...

Was told by a dealer today that the "east coast" is running a special - 1.9% for up to 36 months, 2.9% for 48 or 60 months. Anyone else heard this?
  • ramib1ramib1 Member Posts: 6
Just got back from a frustrating visit to Peninsula Infiniti in Redwood Shores. What a nightmare. I came in with my checkbook, EAGER to buy a new G – Premium + sport packages. But I was stunned and turned off by how I was treated by the sales person. He pulled out all the old school silly dealer tricks in the book, including making me wait at his desk for 15 minutes, for no apparent reason, consulting “his manager” on every offer I've made (10 minutes each time)-- only to come back with $200 reductions (off MSRP of course), etc....No matter how many times I told him that I know what his price is, and I know what the car goes for in the market, etc. he simply ignored me and gave me all kind of bs....After an hour and a half I had enough, and left, not before he held on to my trade-in’s registration card! I am surprised that Infiniti dealers resort to such tactics.

Anyone had a good experience with a decent dealer/salesman in the Bay Area recently?
