I purchased the car at Fletcher Jones in Chicago. The sales manager was up-front and easy to deal with. I received the same offer from Infinite of Lisle. Field's Infinite did not believe me that the offer was real. They told me if that was the offer I received, I should take it. I did! I test drove the New 04 TL. Very nice car. I don't care for the look of the Maxima. I love the way the G35 Drives. Good luck Shopping!

I've just started contacting nearby dealers via Internet and received this reply - "Premium G35 Sedan available in the 2004 Model at $500 over our cost. The MSRP of the Premium G35 is $34,155 and the invoice is $31,227 and I will sell you you it for $31,727. We do have multiple color choices available."

Any opinions on this deal for Central NJ?

And messages from other guys who recently bought G35.

Invoice does not necessarily equal dealer cost. So long as the price is in your ballpark, it sounds like a good deal. Be careful that they don't try to add a dealer BS fee. Gotta focus on the "out-the-door" price.

Saw your post regarding the car you purchased in Austin. I would love to know who you worked with. I am in Dallas, very interested in getting a G35 Coupe. If anyone else has any ideas on a good contact/dealer in Dallas for a very good price, let me know. Thanks!

I am in Houston looking for a great deal on a coupe also. I heard Grubbs was dealing, but I haven't personally confirmed that. Please let me know what you find as I don't want to pay MSRP.

I had the same good experience as Carrelman2 at Flemington Infiniti in Flemington, NJ. No hassle, nice sales people. I too, love the car and I got a good deal as well.

I just wanted to let you know that I bought my G35 Sedan from Grubbs, and had a very good experience. They trucked the car down to me (in Houston), and everything was handled professionally. Call the internet manager there and ask him for a price, he won't mind giving it to you...

    Kevin,
Be sure to call Allison Cohen at Sewell Infiniti in Dallas. I bought my G35s from her a year ago at a very competitive price. The purchase experience was great. I came from Houston area to get a great deal.

I want to purchase a G35 Coupe this weekend. Local (Ohio) dealer has the one I like but price negotiations are tough!

    cars.com lists base model

    MSRP $29,250 plus $545 destination = $29,795.

    INVOICE $26,794 plus $545 destination = $27,339.

I offered $27,500 and the dealer came back with $28,795 which he tells me is $1,000 below *HIS* MSRP price!

I really want this car but with Ford's $2,000 rebate on a 2004 Mustang GT (manual trans) I'm about ready to give up on G35 and just buying the Mustang!

Is my offer of $27,500 THAT UNREASONABLE? Should I stick with it and chance not getting the G35?

Anyone's feedback and thoughts will be very appreciated....

onelgs, see my posting to your message on the G35 coupe board. If you get a Consumer Reports new car price report for $12 (1-800-205-2445) you will get a good idea of what profit the dealer wants to make in your case and whether it is a fair profit. First figure out the lowest reasonable profit, then the highest reasonable profit and pick a number in between, then calculate taxes make an offer at some number between the high and low, then tell the dealer that this number is all that you have. Take it or leave it. If he says no, it has been my experience that the next dealer will say yes. That is, so long as the profit you are offering is good. Make the offer at the very end of the month. The end of October would be a VERY good time to deal on 2003's. The best place I have found to make deals is with dealers who have the lowest overhead, that is, those in the more rural areas, away from the more commercially desirable/high rent areas.

I, too, like the Mustang, but the G35 is much, much more to my liking. Good luck
  • centraljerseycentraljersey Member Posts: 16
onelgs, a $161 profit would not be enough for a dealer, but there is a "holdback" for the dealer as well, although the dealer probably will not admit it. Still, I would think that would not be enough of a profit for the dealer. Check my earlier posting for what I paid in New Jersey.

This is the deal I was offered right of the bat, without any negotiation - 04 graphite silver/black G35 sedan, automatic with the premium package at $500 over invoice, about 30900. I told the sales guy that I was looking for a 03 because i can get a better deal, and he said if I get the 04 this is the price he'll give at 3.9% financing. I think they have about 30 04 G35 on the lot.

Is this the best i'll be able to get or should I try to get other dealers to beat this price? I live in L.A. btw.

Hi I'm looking to lease a 04 G35C and was

told 1000 under MSRP and residual of 56%.

Also is it likely deals will be better in Dec than

they are now on 04's? Would appreciate any

    comments. thanks

$500 over for an 04 is pretty good. It's really a case of how important you think your time is. I'm sure if you shopped around and kept the sales people late into the night negotiating, you might get another $200 off. Personally, I'd take what is on offer.

I am planning to buy a '04 G35 Coupe. Has anyone gotten any good deal or had a great experience in any southern california dealership. Please let me know at what price you've gotten (if you don't mind), at which dealership and whom did you deal with. Thanks

To be honest you're going to find it very hard to get any sort of deal on a Coupe in So Cal. You may want to look into buying the car from somewhere out of state and having it shipped here.

The Sunday edition of the NY times had a 2004 G35 w/ leather, auto, bose, roof ( I assume it's a premium package) for $29,995. The dealer is George Harte Infiniti in West Haven CT.

A dealer sent me an invoice on a G35 Coupe today with a $402 MA (marketing assessment) tacked on. While I know this is basically a profit center, has anyone else had to deal with this issue? Have you see it on an invoice? Did you pay it or negotiate it away? How firm was the dealer? Any insight will be appreciated. The dealer by the way is in the Atlanta metro. Thanks....adnips

within past 8 months (one being a G35 Coupe) and never heard of or paid for any marketing assessment fees!

Our G35 invoice only shows the standard itemized items... vehicle price, sales tax title and documentation fee of $100.

    Good Luck!

My G35 Coupe deal just got even better... LOL

Because it was a replacement vehicle for a car the insurance company determined a total loss... we just received a $1,350.00 check from our insurance company.... partial reimbursement of sales tax!

Thanks for all your advice... we love our G35 Coupe!

    Real quick...I'm busy at work...

All set to buy my wifes' 2004 G35 sedan from Infiniti of West Chester, Pa. Price for black sedan, Premium package, spoiler, wood grain trim was $32,150. Very good.

Trading in a 2001 Acura 3.2TL. Pearl white, rear spoiler (no nav system) 25,xxx miles. True creampuff. She takes it to work and back 4 times a week. Mint condition. The lowest trade in value I found for a car like this is about $18,500. Most are over $19,000, close to $20K. Private sale, it's worth around $20-$21K easily, dealer sale, a good bit more. They come back and offer me $15,500 for the car. Clearly trying to make up the profit they loose on the price of the G35. Quite insulting. They quickly upped their offer to $18,000, but I still walked out. I don't appreciate being "low balled". Pretty poor I think...

onelgs.........Thanks for your input regarding the MA Fee. While the $402 showed up on his invoice, my next question would be, where is it on the MSRP? If you bought the car for sticker, I don't recall it being disclosed. I know it's just another junk fee thrown in to complicate the negotiation process. Anyone else with this problem?

What a shock to hear that you had a dealing with an unethical car dealership! I think that the ones that aren't are the exceptions. I remember years ago when I bought my first car- Toyota Celica. I'm about to pay for the car and leave with it. The sales slip shows they're chargeing me for an extended warranty; I questioned the sales guy and he said, "they all come that way". I told him to remove the charge and he was quite indignant. Amother experience was ordering a car at a very attractive price and when they finally find the model with the options I want, they tell me it has some extras. They were going to charge me an extra $1500 for pin-striping and underbody noise resistance- probably a wax job. I walked out. I was young at the time and there was no internet in those days. I do think that no woman or young person should go into a dealership on their own. They're still considered easy marks by the sleazeball car sales people. Since I'm trashing car dealers I'd like to finish my diatribe on a positive note:

I don't think I'm allowed to mention a dealership by name here so I'll just say that one guy owns 20+ dealerships in Flemington, NJ and he has a very good reputation. I've bought 2 cars from him and they were both pleasant experieinces. My college roomate and his friends have bought many cars there and speak highly of him. It's a bit far me to go now- we've moved- so because of this I may not buy my next car there. I'm seriously considering going back though. The problem with buying a car is you have to put up with car salespeople.

I agree with you on the typical car sales person stereotype. I think there is a far greater chance of running into hidden fees and incompetent high pressure sales people with dealerships like toyota, honda and other dealers like that than say your luxury car dealership like Lexus, Mercedes, infiniti etc.. I've had some bad experiences with luxury dealers but almost every time I walked into a toyota, nissan, honda and many others like it,I was disgusted.

Over the last 30 years I have dealt with many car dealers when buying cars for my family of 2 (and then 4). I would not consider any of them dishonest, although there were things that they kept under their vests when making deals. For years I dealt only with 4-5 Toyota dealerships, but for my daughter I branched out to VW and for my son, Acura. I kind of liked most of the salespersons with whom I dealt, but I tried to always negotiate from a strong position and knowing the dealer's invoice and incentives is as strong a position as I know. Not all car dealers are deceitful; I once represented a Cadillac dealer and found him to be pretty honest. Still, if you come in unprepared you might find yourself making up for the "lost" profit that the dealer had on the guy who came prepared.

By the way, Lidia (onelgs), I am pleased that you feel that something I said helped you negotiate a good deal. However, I am quite envious of the fact that you not only beat my deal (the one I got at that Flemington, NJ dealer mentioned by gregory28) initially, but then beat it even further with that check that you received. I hope that you are having as much fun with your G35 as I am having with mine.

A local dealer called me this morning looking to close out the month with one more sale. Since we've been haggling off & on for a couple of weeks,he asked what it would finally take to put me into the G35 Coupe I've been looking at. I e-mailed back, $500 over invoice with no funny fees. While he agreed to the $500 over invoice, he then proceeded to tack on $402 for ADV. & $398 as a doc fee. I figured it was costing me about $800 an hour for them to write up my sale.

He would not budge on the ADV. since he claims it is part of the invoice but suggested we split the doc fee. I agreed to consider the deal & asked for a copy of the invoice. 5 minutes later, he said his GM would not split the fee & suggested they were considering adding yet another. Suffice it to say, I was not their last sale of the month. I suggested I'd be back when the snow flies in Dec/Jan & coupes are a plenty. Anyone else getting this run around?....adnips

No, it was no surprise to me that a dealer was unethical. I don't plan to buy another new Toyota because of their dealer practices alone.

What really ticked me off about Infiniti of West Chester was that I made it very clear to them that I had done my homework and would not tolerate any tricks or games. I flat out told them that I was going to buy the car from whomever gave me the best price and least hassles. Guess they thought they could sneak a curveball by me. So, now they've lost a sale, and potentially several more because I'll be happy to tell the story over and over.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if I should just wait until Infiniti is willing to deal on the G35x, so I can get her the AWD.

I'd like to know what folks are paying for 36, 42 and 48 month leases on this automobile. In NJ the vehicles are mostly shipped with the premium package and leather which I'm interested in anyway. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Want to give myself a reality check. Here's where I am with buying this G35.

The dealer and I agree on the price of the G35 itself. $32,150

The sticking point is the trade in value of our car. 2001 Acura 3.2TL, 26,000 miles. Mint.

Their latest offer for the car is $18,000. In a private sale, this car is worth $20-$21,000. I told the dealer if they'd give me $19,000 trade in, I'd give them a deposit. They came back and said $18,000 trade in is like getting $19,000 in private sale. I was confused.

They said if I sell the car privately and come back to them with cash in hand, I'd pay taxes on $32,150, the price of the car. If I trade my car in, I'd only pay taxes on $14,150 (G35 price minus TL trade in value). This is $1000 difference in taxes. Is this right? Do I only pay taxes on whatever is above the value of my trade in?

Anybody negotiate any good deal on the awd model? I'm being told a 2-mth waiting list and $38K for premium/sport/nav.

    Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a G35 in the next 3-4 weeks, and wanted some advice on options from some people who own the car. Specifically:

    1) Does anyone know how the AWD is going to drive? The local dealer is claiming he'll have one the 1st week of December. We're in Texas, so snow is not an issue, but we do get some crazy rain. Wondering if anyone has heard about performance in the dry & the wet -- everything I've read just talks about things like "snow mode", which I'll never use.

    2) "Sport" package - the wheels don't seem to be any different in size, the only difference is the suspension. Does anyone have any thoughts about the difference in the two suspensions? I'd like something sporty, but comfortable. Also, the sport package disallows the wood option, so if I do the sport package, I'd have to do an aftermarket wood kit. :(

    3) Bridgestone vs. Goodyear. I've heard some bad things about the Goodyears on the G35's vs. the Bridgestones, it seems like there is a mix on the lots right now. Personally, I've always had good luck with Goodyears, and haven't had good luck with Bridgestones, but I'm hearing the opposite on this car. Any advice? It sounds like the dealer will swap those out if I ask them to.

    Thanks in advance!!

This fee is something that is charged to all Infiniti dealerships by Infiniti for each vehicle. I believe it varies slightly from State to State but is usually in the $400 to $440 range. It isn't a bogus, tacked on fee but one the dealer has to pay.

For a 36 month lease, what kind of deals are out there in terms of total due at signing and monthly payment? Any incentives being offered on interest rates or residual values?

I had my 2004 G35s for about two months. Loving the car!

    klayfish:
The dealer's argument sounds fishy to me, even though I am not an expert on trade-in at all. Put it this way, let's see the dealer buy your trade-in car at 18K separately, do they need to pay sales tax? I would say yes, but not sure. Now, if you buy the G separately, you pay tax on 32K purchasing price. When you do these two things together, suddenly you only need to pay tax on the difference of 14K? Do you see what's going on here? The government lost tax on 18K of purchase. Do you think the government is so stupid? I don't think so.

    scottpalmer:
    1. You don't need AWD in Texas. I am in NJ and it was pretty rainy lately. My G handles great.
    2. I didn't take the sport package. The G's suspension is tight enough even without the sport package.
    3. I have Bridgestone on my G. It's great. I almost hit a deer last night. Thanks to the brake and ties, the deer was fine.

As for marketing fees, I didn't pay it, or it's built into the invoice and I just didn't know about it.

Maybe it's useful to mention my deal:
G35 Sedan w/ Leather, Premium package w/ full size spare, wood package and trunt mat, for 31,700 and out of the door was 33,897 with 6% sales tax.

    Hope my info helps you.
  • ihabermanihaberman Member Posts: 58
While the suspension may be tight enough with the sport package, the visual differences are important, namely:

    -- Sportier looking wheels
-- Titanium tinted interior (regardless of the plastic looking titanium, it's still more luxurious and sportier looking than the plain black or toupe dash (IMO)

    Klayfish,

I bought my 03.5 G35 Prem/Sport/Aero this past Feb. In buying the car, I ended up doing what they call a DEALER PASSTHROUGH. Basically, I have an '01 Maxima. I found a private buyer. We were stuck on my sale price of 16k and his of 15k. He suggested using the dealer to conduct a Pass Through deal on the purchase of my G. How this works is the Dealer agrees to purchase your trade at the price private buyer is agreeing to (16K). Then the value of the trade (16K) is subtracted from your purchase price. As a result, you pay sales tax on 3X,000-16,000 resulting in a tax savings for you of about $1000. Note, the dealer usually charges 300-400 dollars to do this.

I think this is along the lines of what the dealer is saying your trade value is when compared to private sale. When you trade at the dealership, the 'sale' price ends up being the diffence of the final purchase.

    Sid

Thanks for all of your help.

g35_wang, I thought it sounded odd, but I think it is legal. I'm not overly up to date on tax laws, that's why I wanted to check on it. The way I see it, as long as I have all of the paperwork to show what happened, I should be fine. My deal is similar to yours. 2004, Leather, premium w/full spare, rear spoiler, wood trim, splash gaurds (I think) for $32,150.

Sid, we actually did the same thing when we bought her current TL. We had a '94 Infiniti G20. We found a private buyer for it. The dealer "bought" it from us and turned around and sold it to the buyer for the agreed price. This saved us on taxes. But I wasn't sure if it worked the same way if I hadn't found a private buyer and was just giving the car to the dealership. I assumed so, but...

    Thanks.

klayfish...I've always had a dealer deduct the value of my trade to reduce the tax on my new vehicle. I think the dealer was sharp to point this out. Actually, I need to keep that in mind when I'm shopping for that new coupe....good luck..adnips
  • bogramerbogramer Member Posts: 1
Tax deduction for trade in is not applied to California, I have asked a few different dealers and they said no such thing in California.

Infiniti of Pleasanton in California offer $3000 off MSRP on every 04 G35.
  • dick4295dick4295 Member Posts: 14
bogramer is that for a coupe or sedan?
  • kfhmailkfhmail Member Posts: 199
Yes that is how it works. If you pay cash (or loan)for a 32K car you pay taxes on 32K. If you have a trade-in, then you only pay taxes on the difference (after subtracting the trade-in). This is not really a tax deduction (you do not claim any of this on your state/fed taxes).

Just wondering what the prices are in the Los Angeles area for a G35 Sedan w/prem, sport, nav, and aero packages are going for? Carsdirect offers it for $700 over invoice...Is that a good deal? Thanks!
  • klayfishklayfish Member Posts: 48
Anyone know an Infiniti dealer in the Mid-Atlantic area dealing on the G35x? I had made a great deal on the G35, then after long thought, decided I would rather get the AWD version. They wanted $4000 more for that car, even though it is an $1800 option. I understand it is just hitting showrooms and many dealers will try to sell it for list price. If I have to wait for supply to outweigh demand, so be it, but I'll keep trying. Anyone know a dealer who can give me a good price?

I have been looking at the G 35 AWD, I went to the dealer on Sunday and was quoted 35,900 for a 2004 G 25 with AWD, NAV, Premium package and splash guards, Silver with diamond graphite leather. They offered that price and that is before I start bargaining with them. Is this a good deal? They expect a Thanksgiving delivery.
