I'm in Northern CA. tax is around 9.2%
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Oh, ouch! Not sure what all the fees are but that explains most of it. I'm guessing it would be about $37,400 out the door - I guess they have some big "doc fees"??
  • jayhawk70jayhawk70 Member Posts: 56
California limits doc fees to $55. (used to be $45, but changed recently). State sales tax in California now range from 8.5% (usually in rural counties) up to 9.75% in cities.

If you purchased your Infiniti since Aug 28th we can pair up. Just need the VIN of your vehicle, address and name and I will submit. I bought my G37 Sedan back in June so Infiniti just mailed me this offer as a newer owner. You can email me @ markms@comcast.net

Hi: This forum has been a great place for a lot of helpful advice. We are interested in a G37x AWD Prem/Nav/preferred Tech package (is this worth having?). Dealer's asking 39K (+$1100 if we want Tech Package). Asking to put down $3200 (taxes) and willing to give 0% financing for 36 months. Price seems big high considering what others are paying. Anyone purchased in the Chicago suburbs recently?
  • mannix77mannix77 Member Posts: 76
What is invoice on this vehicle. You should target that or lower. Also, it should be your choice of how much you put down.

Also, others may not be taking the finance option that you are. So, that is 2500$ dealer incentive if special financing is not taken.

You may want to look for Credit union financing for 36 mo and see if it's worth it to you to take 2500 or the 0%... Here is edmunds calculator link title

    Hey guys,

I've been reading the forums for a while, but this is my first time contributing. I'm in the market for a 2009 G37 Sedan. I live in DC, and I'm trying to decide whether to get AWD or RWD. In any case, I definitely want the Premium package and I'd be happy without the navigation.

I got an internet quote at a local dealer for a 2009 G37 Sedan, AWD, cargo net, Premium package, splash guards, and a TMA trunk mat for $33,072. MSRP from edmunds.com says $39220, Invoice = $36124. TMV = $36720.

Should I get it or is the navigation worth the extra money? How about the AWD? I always thought I could just drop 1/10 of what they charge and spend $200 on a decent Garmin. I was aiming to spend around that price range, so it seems really good.

    Thoughts?

Greetings from a Marylander. I opted for the AWD because I like the added traction in all weather situations (accelerating in the rainstorm last week was an amazing experience that's nearly impossible in FWD/RWD cars), but it does come with more weight and cost, so it's your choice. I certainly wouldn't argue it's "mandatory" in this region, but summer tires (with the RWD sport package) definitely don't play well in the snow.

I feel your pain regarding the NAV, especially--as you point out--good portable units cost just a few hundred dollars. In defense of the factory option, (a) it's a much bigger and more detailed screen, (b) it doesn't invite break-ins, (c) it's neatly integrated with XM traffic, and (d) it includes the awesome hard-drive music box. And, resale value should be taken into account; as navs become increasingly common in 30k+ cars (and even some below), it may be difficult to sell a car without it in a few years if that's what most buyers are expecting. But, of course, it's your call.

The price quote you got sounds very good to me. I ended purchasing from Passport Infiniti in Alexandria, after cross-shopping all the area dealers (mainly because they had the only fully loaded G37xS around at the time).

Hello snagiel - I'm actually a Marylander myself, but I figured DC would be the next largest city. I'm over near College Park and was looking at JBA Infiniti.

Thanks for the advice! I test drove both the RWD and the AWD, and couldn't really tell the different due to the weight, so I probably wouldn't notice either way. I'm more inclined to get the AWD as well, especially for being able to drive in the rain and snow and because it'll help resale value as well.

As for the NAV, you have some good points. I just started working after school and I've saved up some money for a decent down payment, so I was trying to keep my payments down by skipping the NAV, but I don't see why not if I get a good deal on it. This will be my first new car...

How was your experience at Passport? They've got a good selection, but so far JBA has given me some better deals. Do they do anything extra when you bring your car in for maintenance? Recommend anyone?

I haven't started blitzing everyone and 'cross-shopping' quite yet, but I think that'll happen soon. I'm going to wait until the end of the month when things get more interesting.

I heard this from the salesman about 5-6 years ago. He told me it will be difficult to trade in the car a couple years later if it doesn't have a NAV...since then I traded in 2 cars and I don't have a problem. ;)

Personally, if I purchase a used car, I don't really care about the NAV b/c I rather spend $150-200 for a portable GPS w/ a CURRENT map.

I heard that NAV only adds a couple hundreds $ to the car value when you trade in.

    Hello.

This forum is great. Please help me make a great deal...

    2009 Infiniti G37
    Journey 4dr Sedan

    P01 Premium Package
    U01 Navigation Package
    N93 Trunk Cargo Net

Edmunds INVOICE: $36,081 (including destination charge of $865)

So if I am turning in my 06' g35 with 3 lease payments left (approx $2,000 left)

And the dealer is quoting me $450 in tags + FL sales tax (6.5%)...

Where would a good, great, and amazing deal be?

I'm probably going to utilize the 36 months at 0% APR.

    Thanks,

    JMW
  • psychonutpsychonut Member Posts: 7
    Good: $35901 - $36600
    Great: $32800 - $35900
    Amazing: Anything less than $32800

~$34000 is a good target. Walk if higher than $34500
  • hockeyguy7hockeyguy7 Member Posts: 2
Thanks alot. Its good to have that range.

PS- the dealer mentioned a dealer fee which is $895 in FL. I assume this is the commission and some profit. Should I pay all, some, or none of it?

Anything else I need to watch out for when they prepare the contract- "well these are standard charges and have nothing to do with the price of the car"?

    Thanks,

    J

I am seriously looking at G37x with navi. Will likely used Infiniti Financing -- which, as I understand it, negates the $2500 dealer cash offer.

How far below invoice is realistic?

(Thank you. This sight already has been very helpful.)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
I can hook you up. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
In my opinion - deals I've seen actually get done (not just quotes) - a few hundred over invoice is realistic. Remember, the trade is important and we've noticed a huge variance in "doc fees". So, if one dealer is $300 over with $99 doc fees - they may be better than someone $200 below invoice but has a $799 doc fee.

Remember - all dealerships have to make some money somewhere - if it looks like they are losing money (selling below invoice and giving you the special financing) - you better have your guard up. This is a general rule, there are always exceptions.

In Texas, at our store, we RARELY go below $800 over invoice and yet we sell more Infinitis than anyone in the Country??? We play no games with trades and doc fees and provide excellent service.

Good luck, the G is awesome! :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
A one year old Infiniti usually get about $800 more if it has Nav, but the older the car the less it gets. 2 yrs old = $600, 3 yrs old = $400, etc :)

    Hi,

Does the AMEX card promotion apply only to buyers of a new Infiniti? We just got a previously owned vehicle from an Infiniti dealership in Chantilly, VA.

Here are the specifics, in the interest of info-sharing - please let me know if you think we got a good deal:

2008 G35x Sport, fully loaded with hard-drive NAV, Premium pkg: moonroof, Bose system, rearview camera, jazzed-up mirror, bluetooth, pwr everything, etc.
    Lakeshore Slate exterior/Stone leather interior

    7800 miles

Was offered at $35,000 plus tax/title/fees

    Sale price: $31,525
    Processing fee: $299
    Tax: $1008
    Title/registr: $66

    Thanks!

    Hello all,

Many thanks for this forum. Can't say enough about the superb info exchanged here. I am in suburban DC (hello to others recently posting from here as well). Have begun discussions with local MD dealer on a G37X w/ Premium pkg.

Am considering taking Infiniti Financing (1.9 @ 60mo, etc.), which, I believe, means the $2500 dealer incentive is off the table. Is that correct?

Q 1: is it possible to get the 2500 dealer incentive and take credit union financing or is standard dealer financing required?

It appears to me that if I can get a super deal (33500) and can get private financing at a low rate (aprox 4.15%), I would be better off to forget the financing.

Q 2: Assuming I took the financing deal, I was quoted $36500 incl. freight and dealer processing (99), but not incl 6% MD tax and title. That seems a little high to me, even if that was quoted with the 1.9 deal and -$2500 off the table. What do you guys think?

    Many thanks again,
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
jsam - Yes, you are correct - either special financing OR $2500. I would also agree IF you have great credit and can get a rate like 4.15% - then take the $2500. I would always advise taking the money, with the rate you make back your money a few bucks a month and it takes years to make up the $2500 - you never know you may want to trade the car or it may get stolen or something before the rate makes up the difference.

I'll let others comment on the price. :)

My experience at Passport was fair--nothing special. I actually live five minutes from JBA, but they didn't have the loaded model I was looking for at the time. (They did locate on up in New Jersey and offered to drive--not flatbed, but drive--it down, which I declined.) Passport gave me their "best, final" offer on the phone one day ("any lower and we won't make any profit on it!"), but when I let them know (no bluff) that JBA beat their offer by $300, they were able to miraculously meet it.

    Hi all,

I am thinking about purchasing a 2009 Journey sedan with Premium pkg. I will probably take advantage of the 0% financing. I noticed on the Infiniti website that it says a down payment MAY be required. I would appreciate any feedback as to what I might expect. Thanks.
  • guest09guest09 Member Posts: 2
Mannix77 - Thanks for your response and the link. The invoice price is ~$37,800 and most dealers are willing to give this price but after the cashback. Calculating for our situation, the cash back and financing works out the same - so I'm wondering if this is as good as its going to get? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the cash back vs financing? Anyone purchased a new 2009 G37x with Pre/Nav package at lower than invoice? Any advice would be helpful in making a decision. Anyone tried out the Tech Package? Is it worth it?
  • psychonutpsychonut Member Posts: 7
sewellgsm, do VPP customers pay doc fees? If so, are they negotiable?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Doc fees are negotiable for everyone - it is just a way dealers make their profits. I've been saying all along - the dealer has to make some money somewhere - so they just shift it around and it makes the customer feel better.

As a consumer, you feel great if you buy the car at invoice instead of $800 over invoice, but then you pay a $895 doc fee instead of $95 - you end up paying the same amount and wasted a bunch of your time to get to the same point.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.
  • sam_ksam_k Member Posts: 243
sewellgsm, I have to disagree with you. Most doc fees are NOT negotiable. You can try to negotiate the price further down to compensate for a high doc fee but every dealer I spoke said they could not change it. The doc fees are pre-printed on the dealer paper work so it can't be changed. When I was shopping for my G37x, I ended up getting my car from a NY dealer because NY has laws limited the doc fee to $45 or something like. All the dealers I spoke to in NJ and CT had doc fees of at least $250 and if my memory serves me correctly, some were as high as $350.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
I've worked at the dealership, in Texas, for 13 years. We pre-print the doc fee on our buyers orders too. (Looks very official that way) We also will not negotiate the doc fee (as our company policy - not the law). The small print on our buyers order reads: "A Documentary fee is not an official fee. A documentary fee is not required by law, but may be charged to a buyers for handling documents and performing services relating to the closing of a sale. This notice is required by law." Now this is in the state of Texas, I'm not an expert on every state. By the way, we charged $50 for ever, but are going to $149 starting next month. It takes about that much to cover the cost of the title clerks who process the paperwork.

There are cost involved is selling a car, if the dealer isn't making some money to cover those cost - they will eventually go under - note the empty buildings in your city.

If your getting a G for a few hundred over invoice minus the dealer cash or special financing - you are getting a fair deal. Feel good about the trade and financing package - those are just as important. :)

Am considering taking Infiniti Financing (1.9 60mo, etc.), which, I believe, means the $2500 dealer incentive is off the table. Is that correct? CORRECT.

Work the dealers. Try to get other dealers involved to get the price down.

What is invoice on the vehicle? focus on that not the other stuff. Tax is tax.

The offer is only good for new cars purchased between August and Nov of 2009.

I still have my code, so if there are any new owners out there we can pair up and you'll get a $500 AMEX gift card.
  • mannix77mannix77 Member Posts: 76
The fee price people quoting on this site include Doc fees for the most part. So when you are trying to compare what people got and what you got, you need to compare apples to apples.

The dealer I bought the car from is "trained" to add doc fee after the fact. I had mine in writing and so he had to honor it (he did try to add the doc fee) or I would have walked out and never go back to him, no matter what price, because its the principal.
  • mannix77mannix77 Member Posts: 76
Used car market is totally different ball game. I use Edmunds and KBB to figure if it was a fair deal or not.

I can't believe the low sales tax people have in some states. NC and VA.

CA is 9.25% - That alone would drive me away from the state. CA also has 10% income tax.

Gotta love NC and VA for the low taxes.

Granted, Californian probably have the highest overall tax burden in the nation. (I live in California, and begin to wonder if I should move out.)

However, borrowing from SewellGSM's line that dealers to make some profit somewhere, the State governments have to collect their tax revenue somewhere. Based on what I see, States with low sales and/or income tax usually have high property tax rates.

    Just my two cents.

Look at your lease docs. Pls provide the residual, sales price, money factor, and term.

Also, need to know if dealer paid off old lease or Infiniti did. Also, there is a $1000 lease loyalty, which could be part of the deal.

This information will help others determine what is possible for themselves.

Hello all, First time posting. Have been reading through past posts and was wondering if you guys thought this was a good deal

    2009 Infiniti G37x 4dr Sedan AWD
    Premium Package
    Navigation Package
    Splash Guards
    Trunk Mat
    Trunk Cargo Net
Color: Blue Slate/Stone or Platinum Silver/Graphite

Using the AMEX purchasing site, I was quoted a price out of state of $35010 delivered. The first dealer I went to locally gave me the whole "I'm losing money spiel" and said the best he could do was $500 over invoice and this was also taking into account the $2500 incentive.

I called the other local dealership and spoke with a sales rep and he said the invoice he has for the car is $35410 and would be able to match the other quote.

First off, is this a good deal as is? Second, should I be looking to take the $2500 off of the $35410 invoice or do you think the rep misspoke and getting this car for $33000 is impossible?

He did state that this was not his bottom line price and that he could match the offer without going to the manager, so I'm wondering how much lower I can actually go. It seems too good to be true.

Any help would be appreciated. Really looking forward to driving one of these machines!
