Is it useful to advise people on this forum to accept a higher price than they have to because that is how much you think they should pay or what is fair? I say it isn't. I also don't think it's ethical for a dealer to advise people to accept deals that can be easily beat. I am so sick of people coming on these forums and saying "oh, the dealer won't sell a car unless they make a profit on it". Well that is just a bunch of crap. Many of them use new car sales just to get their quantity bonuses, people to use their service bays and to obtain a trade that they can sell at a very large profit.

The last two cars I bought for cash, no trade, no special one-of-a-kind vehicle or anything like that. Each one was well below invoice before any sort of rebate. One was an Infiniti and the other a Mazda. New, not demos. Like I said absolutely no special cases. No, they didn't get me on financing I paid cash. No they didn't screw me on a trade, there was none. Were they trying to sell to win a contest or something....no idea....don't care. These were both purchased in a lot better economic conditions then we are in now.

For the last twenty years you could go just about anywhere and purchase for invoice plus $100 or so. You don't think now you can cut a lot better deal. Just go on paying $300-500 over invoice and rejoice in your false pride that you got a really good deal but please don't advise people to do the same.

Oh, and if someone thinks that the 40 or so people that regularly post on this forum are the only ones that read it....they are living in a fantasy world.

kingspcgeek, i recall you were the one joking about the Customer Satisfaction Survey. what you fail to realize is the importance of brand imaging and perceived customer satisfaction. why would *every* car maker spend *money* on a survey if it was unimportant? how do companies gauge if their dealerships are representing the brand the way they want? ill tell you - by the survey.

and dealerships stand to profit from good surveys, that's why it is a bargaining tool. im glad i had the opportunity to teach you something. :D

    Sewell, or anyone else,

I'm new to this forum and I'd like to get your opinion of this pricing:

    G37xs
    premium
    nav
    sport
    cargo net, splash guards
    22,000 miles per year
    36 month lease
    no money down
$575 per month(includes acquisition fee, bank fee, taxes rolled in at a 7.35% rate, where I live, Westchester County, NY)

    Legit? Thanks for any input.

I wasn't joking about the survey, I know how important they are to the dealer. I was joking that you are really really naive if you think a salesman is going to give you a better deal because you "promise a 100% survey". Instead they are going to laugh at you.

I have leased two G's in the past year. Once at $300 under invoice, one at $1000 under invoice so I think I know how to make a deal.

Sure - I just need the VIN on your new infiniti, your name, address, city, state, zip. Then I submit onto www.infinitiusa.com/rewards, it states it usually takes 6-8 weeks to receive the cards. You can email me at thehagenhouse@charter.net with the info or if you have questions. Thanks

    Into the ether of cyberspace....

Posts about other members, other car-based websites, etc, etc... are all off topic here.

Did some good posts get thrown out with the bad? Beats me... nobody wants to read that crap, and neither do I..

Stay on topic, or keep quiet.. If you think this only means some other member, you've missed the point (and, I'm sure most of you will).

    Well said.

If anyone wants to know current incentives, days supply, time lines of new product, or averages of what is happening at the store I work at (there are over 180 Infiniti dealerships in the US) let me know. Not often will you have someone on the inside giving you straight information - sometimes you might not want to hear the truth....but at least you will have it.

Most of the time I am actually encouraging you to buy from my competitors - it is not like I gain anything from that.

Sorry for "stirring the pot" this week - I will stay on topic. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
brujay - that looks good to me - I ran the numbers here as if you lived in Texas - the best I would do for someone looking at a vehicle equiped like that on those terms is about $619 per month. So, $575 is great. Leases all work a little different depending on the state you live in. I encourage you to go get it - might check the 39 month lease, may save you a couple of bucks per month. :)

    SewellGSM,

As some other members have expressed, I found your posts sincere, informative and valuable. In my shopping for next ride, I also follow threads of a number of other models. I wish there is someone like you in those other threads to provide inside information and dealers' perspective.

My current lease (non-Infiniti) ends on March 31, 2010. However, my target date of purchase is by end of this year to take advantage of sales tax deductability. I live in California where sales tax is nearly 10%. The combined Federal and State income tax saving for a ~$40k car will be around $1,500. Therefore, I am extremely disappointed that the 2010 G will not hit the showroom until January of 2010. Moreover, not only will there be no $2,500 incentive from Infiniti (as it does now for 2009 models), but also most dealers will try to sell at as close to MSRP as they possible can, Put all these into consideration, the effective price difference between comparable 2009 G and 2010 G will be close to $5,000 ($2,500 incentive + $1,500 tax saving + $1,000 due to demand/supply).

I know the 2010 G is mostly only a mid-cycle refresh in styles (yes, I do follow the 2010 Infiniti G thread). I have been trying to find photo of the "restyled" 2010 G with no success. So, here is a question for you: does the "restyled" 2010 G worth the extra $5,000? I can't care less if it is only minor facelift (such as BMW's so-called "new" 2009 BMW 3-series). Of course, it will be most helpful if you have photos to share.

    Thanks in advance.

One drawback for 39-month lease vs 36-month lease is that you end up paying one extra year's registration for only 3 months' use. Depending on the state, it may be a few hundred dollars. Something to put into consideration if the monthly saving pays off.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
jtla - Thanks for your comments. In my opinion, if leasing "no" it is not worth the $5000 difference (but what will you do with your current lease)? If buying "maybe" - a couple of years from now on the used car market a 2010 will bring about $4000 more than a 2009. So, depending on how ofter you trade, the true cost may be closer to only $1000 (after you trade it back in or resell it) - and for $1000 the upgrades maybe worth it to you.

PS And by March, when your lease is up, who knows maybe Infiniti will have a small incentive that closes that gap even more. I recommend never getting out of a lease early (unless you are over on your miles) - it can get expensive. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
    Good point.
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
Thank you for your advice. Sounds like waiting till March for the restyled 2010 G may make sense after all.

I will not get out the current lease early. If I lease my next car, then I definitely will wait until/near end of March. However, pulling the trigger at end of December may make sense if I am to buy the car, because of the sales tax saving and year-end promotion. In that case, I would have two cars for 3 months. :)
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
That is not true everywhere. Here in AZ you get plate credit for unused time that can be credited towards the new cars registration, or given back to you by check. I am sure others states follow that same logic.'

Thanks much Sewell. In your opinion, does the 37xs have a break in period at all. They told me no in my 335xi and I noticed a difference after 25,000 miles.

Can I expect the same thing in the infiniti?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
In my opinion - "no". They do have an "adaptive transmission" but that only takes a few months to adapt to your driving style.

I'm looking to team up with a new Infiniti buyer who has purchased/leased their car after August 28, 2009 but before the end of November 2009. I need your first and last name, the VIN of your new Infiniti, your full address, and your date of purchase. You get $500 Amex cash and I get $150 Amex cash. I did this when I was a new buyer and I got my $500 within 6 weeks. It was awesome. Email me at listan1@msn.com if you happened to have bought in the last few days or when you do if you buy in the next several weeks. Thanks!
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
Some states are more reasonable than others. California is sqeezing every penny out of car buyers. When trade-in a vehicle, we still have to pay sales tax on the full cost of the new car, while residents of some other states only pay sales tax on the price difference.

On the other hand, it is more advantageous to lease in California because sales tax is levied on lease payment. I believe that some states collection sales tax up front based on the new car value.

    #4472 of 4472 G37X COUPE IN ALBANY, NY... by ncognito13 Sep 05, 2009 (3:04 pm) Save | Reply | Edit | Delete
The sticker on the car is $42,955...includes premium package, cargo net, and, illuminated kick plates...Salesman made the price....$40,995 plus tax and DMV..or additional $2,000 off if we did not want special financing....which would make the car..$38,995 plus tax and dmv...

I know what I think of his offer.....I want to know what the Infiniti car deal experts think,,,,I have no trade....I am willing to pay cash....and I don't want the kick plates..so the MSRP of the car that I want is $42,625.....what would be a great deal on this car??

I already own a 2006 Infinti G35x which I bought new from the same dealer.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide to me....

Lousy deal, and lousy that they are going to only pass on $2000 of the $2500 dealer cash if you don't take the special financing.

You want to shoot for invoice - 2500 or about $37,000. If you are within $500 its a pretty good deal. Anything more walk away.

Today I worked out a deal with a salesman in an infiniti dealership for a black G37 sedan.

    Here's what I got:

    A 2009 G37 Journey,
    Color: Black
Navigation Package, Premium Package, Technology Package.

The dealer said the MSRP was $40,420, but we worked out a deal for $34,800.

Is that a good deal or should I push for better?

    I'm new here btw.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
I threw out a price of $36,000...and the salesman said.."remember....that we have to make a profit." Uh huh...I have to get a great deal too....and you BS'd me...

After what I have read on here I was thinking that $36K would have been a good starting point....I knew that what he said was too high and when I told him that I thought there was a $2500 dealer incentive he had the nerve to say..."that;s only on the sedan"...Now I wouldn;t buy the car for more than $35K...it is always great to shop when YOU DON"T HAVE TO BUY....

Thank you for your input...Your posts and others have been very informative.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
Two deals....impressive. Leasing prices mean nothing in regards to someone buying a car. There are so many other variables involved. People on here should be getting pricing well under invoice -$2500, not invoice -$2500. Advising them differently is leaving money on the table IMO and is in direct conflict with what you say you did yourself. If you made deals at $1000 under invoice why are you advising others to take less. Doesn't make sense to me.
  • mannix77mannix77 Member Posts: 76
Invoice is around 37k. So you are around 300 over invoice less the incentive of 2500. Pretty descent. Is there anything else included in this deal. e.g. Financing?/Trade In?

By it self, i think its a descent deal. you could do better if you put more time with the dealers in your area. But how much more you will get may not be worth your time - thats your call. Are you happy with the dealer?

Also, dealer makes commission on the financing, so shop that as well, I knocked off 2.5% by having other financing options. Saved about $40/mo. Dealer magically matched the rate. See earlier threads for penfed CU financing special. I'm sure there are others available too.

Well it turns out Holman Infiniti of New Jersey was playing games. They quoted me a low price for three straight days, and because the deal isn’t final until it’s in writing, I pushed the General Manager to FAX me details with his signature on it. Alas, he would not, blaming his salesperson for making a mistake. I told him it was more than just a mistake. I had asked her to confirm the price for three days, but instead she strung me along for three days and continued to bait me by doing things like letting me choose the color.

Holman Infiniti is an unethical dealership that will use unethical tactics to get your sale. Unfortunately for them, I’m no patsy and I *will* write about my experience. On Tuesday, I will send a letter to Infiniti Corporate Consumer Affairs.

Well since wasting my time with Holman, all the neighboring Infiniti dealerships have run dry on the X coupes, at least in the colors I want. I’ve decided I will cross shop the Audi A5 and see if I can get a good deal on a 2010 model.
  • mannix77mannix77 Member Posts: 76
Sorry to hear about your experience. Good to know about Holman Though. Sorry to see you looking at another Brand. I've owned audi vehicle before and they are gr8. FYI-September deliveries should be arriving and if you wait to see what they get in stock, then maybe you get what you are looking for.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
I suspected the same when you posted that deal. Bummer. And dealers wonder why we think they are slimeballs. You might expect that from "Joe's Discount Cars" but not an Infiniti dealer. Guess old habits are hard to break. Good luck.
  • newmoon9newmoon9 Member Posts: 11
I had a bad experience with one of Infiniti dealer in LA. Unfortunately I finally bought the car from them. I wish I didn't. I also want to send a letter to Infiniti Corporate Consumer Affairs.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
I had a Mazda dealer pull a similar move on me...on an 86 RX7...they had to order the car..I signed the purchase agreement and they had not...when the car came in they told me that there was a price increase and if I wanted the car I would have to pay the increase. I said to them..but I signed the purchase agreement..and then he said..buy we didn't...want the car...PAY THE INCREASE...I said some choice words and walked away quickly...That happened in 1986 and I remember it exactly as it happened. It was Orange Mazda in Albany, NY,

The point is...if we all do our homework, the car dealers cannot mess with us because we are prepared. Just as the Infiniti salesman did not offer me the $2500 discount but rather he gave me ONLY $2,000..and I called him on it. and then he lied by saying it was only $2500 on sedans...If he believes that he can sell a car to me by lying and scamming....he is wasting his time. Any car purchase is too expensive to not have ANY DEALER TREAT YOU HONESTLY AND FAIRLY AND RESPECTFULLY AS WELL. They are allowed to make profit...and we are allowed to try to get the best deal that we can...and that is what car buying is...To make a large purchase...a car...should be pleasant and not an ordeal...just walk away from them and NEVER LOOK BACK.....Afterall, it is....ONLY A CAR.....
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
Well it turns out Holman Infiniti of New Jersey was playing games.

I didn't post anything after you said you got a good deal w/ them. I think they might change the way they do business.

I purchase 3 infinitis for the last 4 years. I stopped by this dealer every time I want to get a new car b/c it's on my way to work. However, their deals are usually a lot higher than other dealers in the area. So, I never got a car from them.

    For your info,

Just bought the following in So. Cal.:

    2009 G37 Sedan, Journey, Liq Platinum/Stone, Prem/Nav/Sport + 3 other options.
    MSRP = 41,855
    Invoice = 38,310
Sales Price paid (cash) = $35,610

That's 2,700 under Invoice (including the current 2500 incentive). 6,245 below MSRP.
I tried to get the car for 3,000 under invoice, but the dealer would not go for it.

You might want to use the above numbers for your negotiations.
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
So, which LA dealer did you have bad experience with?
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
I think that is a very good price. Which dealer did you buy from?
  • pkhoopespkhoopes Member Posts: 27
    Hi All,

I am considering the purchase of a Journey sedan around the end of this month and I am currently doing my price homework. Edmunds shows the invoice price (no options) at 31,142, but Kelly Blue Book website shows it at 31,442, supposedly effective June 19, 2009. This is an increase of $300. Anybody know if this is true?

As an aside, I was trying to figure out if it would make better financial sense to negotiate my best price with the 2,500 incentive deduction and pay cash for the car, or try to get it for as much under invoice as I could and go with the zero percent financing (my credit is excellent).
Using a simple savings calculator, I determined that it would be better to go for the financing. Let's say the cost of the car is 35,000. If I finance at zero percent and put the cash in a money market account earning 3% for 36 months, I would earn 3,291 dollars in interest compared to the 2,500 off deal, a difference of 791 dollars. Am I missing anything?

    Regards
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
Yes, you are missing the current interest rates on money market funds. Try more like 1% or less. You can get a 3 yr CD for maybe 2.25 or if you're lucky 2.5%. Pump in those rates and see how you'll come out. Plus you'll pay taxes on the interest you earn so that will lower your return some as well.
  • pkhoopespkhoopes Member Posts: 27
Thanks for your reply. I decided that 3% would be a good CONSERVATIVE number to use. I base that number on my experience with on-line banking mma's/cd's (which will almost always give you a better rate than brick and mortar banks). These sources include online banks and credit unions. A year ago, it was easy to get a 5% rate. Yes, those rates have gone away with the current economic downturn, but today you can find a MMA in the 2.0 to 2.3% range, 2 year cd's for 2.75 to 3.25%, and 3 year cd's for 2.8 to 3.35% (I like fatwallet.com to track these). I think that 3% over the next 36 months ON AVERAGE will be very easy to obtain. I suspect that by next spring, the Fed may start to raise interest rates. But you are right as far as paying taxes on interest earned...that does have to be taken into account.
