roy2001 - Main reason is Franchising Laws in the states, the dealers have the right to sell the vehicles at whatever they want. To get those laws changed would be tough - I guess I should never say never. However, Oldsmobile tried this and it failed so did Saturn and it is going away too. But even at Saturn, if a trade-in is involved - there is negotiating.

Best thing to do is what you are doing - be up on all programs - see what others say about your local dealers - go with the one you trust. Once you can hook up with a local dealer, buy from them, service with them - things will go much smoother.

I'm with you - if Infiniti set a no haggle price - and the dealers had to stick with it - life would be much easier. (Like the VPP deals) :)

kinggpcgeek - Give me a fricken break. If you have bad service at one McDonalds are you never going to McDonalds again? What ludicrous statement.

Ha ha, it's easy for you to say. If you had to drive 4 hours to the McDonalds and got treated the way I was treated, probably you won't go to MacDonalds again either.

Maybe this is why my brochure from Infiniti listed Southwest Infiniti dealer in Houston ;)

Anyway, since we learned that North Houston dealership just got bought out by Sewell and they are still cleaning things up, I'd at give SewellGSM a chance to square things away. I'd ask for a free delivery to Austin at this point though ;)

You just don't get it. You are swearing off of an entire car manufacturer because you had a bad experience at one dealership. So once again, if you had a bad experience at one McDonalds does that mean you will never eat at any other McDonalds in the world?

Yes, Sewell Infiniti of Houston messed up. They were getting the car from another dealership in Houston (no names) - the other dealer sold the car to a customer leaving Sewell "high and dry". The mistake was telling you to come on over BEFORE they had the vehicle on their lot - that is bad. I talked to the GM, Nick Vanderpool, he has discussed this with the salesperson and they all feel horrible. They too lost out on a sale - I heard he sent you a small gift as a token of wasting your time. I'm sure IF you were to contact him directly - he would make it up to you. They are new in town and want to make a positive impact in the community. I will be than happy to help as well if you like. :)

Hey dude, it seems to me that it's you who doesn't get it. If it has nothing to do with the manufacturer, I wonder why the manufacturers always send out dealer review forms asking for feedback on the buying experience. As a consumer, that's how we can improve the industry as a whole.

Anyway, whatever floats your boat. I'm not going to waste any more time on this with you.

Shopping for a G37x w/premium package in NJ. MSRP: $39,230. Dealer quoted me $34,800 (paying cash). Can someone tell me if this is a good deal or has someone gotten a better deal? Thanks!
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
while i get a different edmunds price for X w/premium - $38,915 - I still dont think $34,800 is a great price. you should be paying around invoice before the $2500 cash incentive. I think a good price is $33,300 or less.

what dealer gave you that price? i have some NJ dealerships in my radius and would be interested to compare my offer with yours.

I got the quote from Ray Catena in Bridgewater. This is the first quote we've gotten-just starting the process and was hoping that there were some better offers out there. We've bought other cars from PA before to get better prices(I see that's where you were looking) so I'd be interested in any info you've come up with. It would be greatly appreciated! And as I continue to get more quotes, I'll gladly pass along the info as well!
    Thanks!
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
so far out of all the dealerships, ray catena has offered me the 2nd highest price for a G37X Coupe, specifically $1,291 above invoice. he also has a $249 documentation fee and reg/plate fee.

bennett infiniti in allentown is the highest priced at $2k above invoice - no thank you.

porter infiniti in newark, DE offered me $300 above invoice. not bad.

im still waiting to hear back from five dealerships. i might have asked too early in the month so i might wait a week or two.

We are planning on buying a G37x within the next couple of days or so. We are also planning on financing 0.0% or 3.9%. Should we aim for $2500 below invoice for this month? Any news on if/what the incentives would be for next month/rest of the year?

We are in MD/DC/VA area. Any recommendations for dealerships?

    Thanks!

    Hi vishd,

i am a member of another forum and someone said she got below invoice for her g37x sedan at JBA infiniti, in ellicot city.

first time she went in they bs'd her. then she went back with a printout of edmunds invoice pricing and negotiated a great price.

as far as october incentives, i dont think anyone knows yet. last year it was $4,000, but that was the beginning of the recession when there was a surplus of cars on lots. infiniti has since adjusted, so im not sure it'll happen again.

Purchased from Tustin Infiniti. Armando is a very staight shooter. Very easy, great experience. Negotiated price before I went in. Got one of the last platinum graphite with graphite interior G37 sedans with sport, premium, nav in southern California for invoice minus $2700 (35,153). Doc fee, etc were 83 bucks. Really stoked on the car and the whole experience. Thanks Armando! :)

    Hi all,

Have been here reading for several weeks,,,,,have learned quite a bit. Here is my question. The closest dealer to me is 1 hour away. Right now they do not have exactly what I want and the best price I have gotten is invoice minus $2,200. They say it could be 2 to 3 weeks till they can get it. Now, there is a dealer 3 hours from me whom will sell me the car for invoice minus $2,500. They have the car on their lot and I could pick it up tomorrow if I like. It is an easy 3 hour commute. Could take a train, they would pick me up at train station and I get to make the 3 hour ride home in my "NEW" car! Now my question is this. Is there any real benefit or disadvantage to buying a car from a dealer 1 hour away or the dealer 3 hours away. The dealer 3 hours away assures me my regular mechanic can do the general maintenance on the car. He points out that if the car breaks down I have the roadside service and towing to the nearest Infiniti dealer for any major problems. My concern is for the minor problem s if they arise. You know,,,,any tweaking that may be needed=. Would be a lot easier to do the hour vs the 3 hours. One more thing. The dealer 3 hours away has been the easiest to deal with. Definitely the friendliest and most accommodating. Soooooooo,,,,,any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

JBA at invoice meaning invoice minus $2500 off, right? We bought our FX in 05 and had to play a similar game (but that was back then and had to pay up $500 over invoice :)).

BTW, should we have them throw in any extras? I remember getting wheel locks for FX. Anything else for G37 Sedan?

Also, this is independent of financing or cash right? Not clear about that yet...

    Thanks!
  • eaglemastereaglemaster Member Posts: 7
The car is G37 X with nav, prem, wood grain, trunk mat , cargo net, splash guards. Yes, the price is the invoice as per Edmunds minus the $2,500 cash back. 38,509 minus 2500 = 36009. The cost of the t and t is not out of line. yes, free locking lugs as well. Paying cash for the car.
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
If you are planning on the 3.9 or 0.0 financing the $2500 dealer cash it not available to you. You should be shooting for around invoice for the car.

You can get maintenance done at any of the Infiniti dealerships that have service. In fact, many Nissan dealerships can work on your car (might be closer than one hour)!
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
    vishd,

yes i meant she paid $2500 below invoice or maybe a little more, i cant remember exactly. for awhile, jba had internet deals on G37X sedans that were $8000 below MSRP. they are since gone, unfortunately. these deals all require the cash to dealer incentive of $2500.

i think you can still negotiate some freebies at invoice pricing b/c im sure the dealer is still making profits. and dont just settle for wheel locks, b/c it's always given to customers. try to negotiate some extras and see if they'll throw it in - then let us know the results! ;)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Only Infiniti dealership can do warranty work - Nissan or independents can do maintenance. For a couple of hundred dollars, I'd buy at whoever you felt more comfortable with throughout the process. :)
  • eddyjbeddyjb Member Posts: 12
    Hey butterspa,

I think I was looking at the G37 that you bought!!

Does your VIN end in 307633??

How many other G37 Sedans did Infiniti Tustin have with Premium, Nav, & Sport? (MSRP of $41,315).

Do you think you could have gotten a price Lower than Invoice minus $2700?

Would you recommend I go to Infiniti Tustin vs. Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys?

    Thanks.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
this question probably doesn't belong here, but maybe someone can help me out.

im pretty close to buying my G37X Coupe, but im worried about getting a good price on my trade-in. in PA, we only pay sales tax on the New Car minus Trade-in, so trading in has benefits.

i read somewhere that i can trade-in my car anywhere; it doesn't have to be at the Infiniti dealership where im paying. no one can confirm this so far, so im wondering if im forced to take whatever offer the dealership selling me the car gives me in order to get the tax break?

ideally, id like to get several quotes and pick the highest, AND also get the tax break.

    Any insight would be appreciated...
  • mjdvmjdv Member Posts: 14
Make sure when you negotiate the price that the price is fixed regardless of whether there is a trade in or not.

You can use carmax and get it appraised which is good for 7 days. It only takes 30 minutes for them to appraise it. When you close, let the dealer know you got it appraised there without telling them the appraised price and see if they'll come close.

From my experience, they will come pretty close to the carmax value.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
Thanks for the advice. I'll check with carmax. I heard they are fairly competitive...

I just got an unbelievable offer for a G37X coupe with Prem and Navi for $35,489. That is after the Cash to dealer incentive. I think it's a mistake, but just in case it wasn't, I asked them to FAX me the details in writing. Wish me luck!
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
I think in order to not pay tax on the trade in portion, you have to trade in the car at the same time that you purchase the new car.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
yeah, that's what everyone keeps telling me. I called up Penn Dot twice (PA's DMV) and both ladies told me the same - though they weren't a 100% sure. One lady said maybe I could get it notarized and the Infiniti dealership would honor that?

oh well, if I hear otherwise i'll let you know.
  • mjdvmjdv Member Posts: 14
That's right you won't get the tax benefit if you go to carmax.

Since the dealer can figure out what the appraised value is from carmax, the tax benefits and the "hassle" value, they go just a little lower than the appraised value. But at least you won't get ripped off by the dealer and you still have the option of going to carmax.

Bear in mind the tax benefit is a little bit lower because you can deduct the sales tax this year.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
yeah im definitely taking advantage of obama's tax deduction - though i'm in the smallest tax bracket so ill probably save very little.

im so stressed with this car selling business i almost wanna lease. but i guess the silver lining is im learning a lot about the process. boy, i cant wait till im sitting in my new coupe and this dealership bs is behind me. :)

update on the super low price i received, the woman said they dont have prem and Nav currently on their lot, and she was going home for the day, but they would deal with my color choice and stuff first and then move on to business. i dont think theyre gonna honor their offer, b/c it's virtually 10k below MSRP.

Don't know what kind of car you're trading but my daughter recently got a company car and wanted to sell her 07' Acura TL. She didn't want to mess around with it so got a quote from Carmax. I told her to go to the Acura dealer and see if they will give her more than Carmax. She got $1100 more from the Acura dealer. They can clean it up, certify it and sell for a nice profit.
  • mjdvmjdv Member Posts: 14
Mine was a 15 year old honda accord. Whether it was through carmax or the dealer, it would go to a wholesale auction. So, there wasn't that much variation in price. However, a newer car will have a lot more variation in price especially if it can qualify to be used as a CPO vehicle.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
i have a 2004 acura tsx, and i also heard if i sell to the same nameplate, i can get a higher price. people looking for a used acura are more likely to buy from an acura dealership.

but in PA if i trade in my car to the seller, i pay less sales tax. if i can get $11,000 on my trade in, then i would save $660 on sales tax. for $300 i'd probably just give her to Infiniti.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
I agree. The hassle factor is worth some money to me as well. If I can save $1k or more I'll think about putting some elbow grease into the transaction. Anything under that and I'll just trade in and enjoy the process a lot more. I figure a dealer isn't going to make a lot off me on a new car so I'll let them make a little on the trade.
  • vishdvishd Member Posts: 8
How much, if at all, should we aim below invoice with 1.9 financing?
  • butterspabutterspa Member Posts: 3
Thats the one. I tried pretty hard to negotiate but that was the best I could do. They did throw in the locking lug nuts. I think if you go for white or black you might have a little bit more leverage as it seems there are more of those around. There really are not many out there with sport, premium, nav. I think they had a platinum graphite and a blue slate in Tustin but both had the stone interior. I have not heard good things about Miller, in fact they never bothered to call me back. Armando is cool to deal with at Tustin. Cerritos was pretty cool too, they just did not have the color I wanted. Good luck.
  • eddyjbeddyjb Member Posts: 12
    Thanks butterspa, for the info.

Yea, it appears that there aren't many G37 Sedans with Prem, Nav, & Sport in the L.A. area. I was going to wait until December to buy, but now I'm worried that the above combo of options might get very scarce, and who knows if the $2500 incentive will be available in December?

I'll drive out to Tustin Infiniti and see if I can get an above configured vehicle for about what you did. Thanks again!! :confuse: "

I recently puchased an Infiniti, who has just sent me an offer in the mail...
Basically, it's an offer code for a $500 Amex gift card on a new purchase or lease of an Infiniti vehicle. (I will also receive $150 for "referring" you) If any of you have recently purchased or leased a new infiniti and would like the $500, please email me at mlcusa@hotmail.com. According to the instructions on the flyer, i just log on to the infiniti website and enter the vin # of your car
and my car and we both get the gift cards - no strings attached. I don't know anyone personally who is buying an infiniti soon so i figured i'd post the offer up here. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Please send me an email to mlcusa@hotmail.com with the following info:

    Owner redemption code
    VIN
    First Name
    Last Name
    Street address
    City
    State
    Zip Code
    Note:
Purchase or lease must be made at an Infiniti Retailer before November 30, 2009. Detail info., click
    here

Spend about 5 minutes reading older posts and you will see that we are all well versed on the program. I too have a redemption code but I'm going to wait for a week or two before posting to give people a chance to buy a new car. In a month or two there are going to be people on this forum begging for your code.

okay so here is an update on my buying process.

Holman Infiniti in New Jersey offered me a G37X Coupe with Premium and Navigation for $35,489 (that includes the $2500 cash incentive). the MSRP is $44,765 and invoice is $41,114. that is $3125 below invoice not including the $2500. they have a documentation fee of $239.50.

the catch is they don't have any on the lot and the next shipment doesnt arrive till september 16th. they gave me 3 colors to choose from, and i chose liquid platinum. also, i havent gotten the deal in writing yet, and the General Manager who handles this wont be in until 9AM tomorrow.

so i wont rejoice until i actually get the deal in writing with the breakdown of costs and the VIN number. i told them if they do everything right, i will give them a 100% Customer Satisfaction Survey and i'll do my major service there.

ill keep yall posted on my progress. thanks to everyone for all the good advice.

I am looking for a deal in N. California, Sacramento and SF bayarea.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
If that deal holds up it is fantastic. I hear they are selling similar cars in Chicago area for about $7-8k under MSRP. Your deal is over $9k under MSRP. I hope there isn't some kind of catch.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
$35,489 for a car they don't have is great. Tell them I will buy the rest of their inventory (after you get yours of course) for $39,000 each - that way they will only be losing $1114 each instead of $3125. ;)

sewell, i guess it will be much harder selling your Gs above invoice with people scoring such great deals and reporting it.

i wouldnt worry for you though, last month you sold plenty and took enough from your customers to secure a nice little profit. ;)

like i said, i wont rejoice until i get it in writing. ive saved all correspondences, so if the deal goes sour, i can always report to infiniti national.

try going to philadelhia area (Infiniti of ardmore)if you are not far away I'm also from jersey and could not find the color and option i wanted. ,just got a g37 XS platinum graphite with stone interior 3 weeks ago :) , Nice people to deal, took me 30 minutes to close deal and very happy with the color and option i wanted. The price you posted definitely they can match it up. :) ">
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
really? the guy i was talking to at ardmore was a few thousand off the mark, though he was one of the few to go below invoice. ill have to resend him an email to see if he can go lower. his 2nd offer was $500 lower than the first, so maybe he isnt even close to a final price.

and actually ardmore is my local dealership.

    thanks for the headsup! ;)
