Dealers will give lower quotes on your email because then they are trying to draw you in. Probably once you go in to ask for the price they quoted you they will say that you dont qualify for the financing, but usually you can get them to give you the price they quoted.
Before you go to the dealership, do some research on other cars as well. Since there are no other infiniti dealerships around, you may want to know enough about other cars to show that you are seriously considering other options. Mercedes C class, audi a4 and accura TL are good candidates. Then pick a price that you want, base don the emailed prices and the invoice price you can find on this website and say that you will go for one of those other cars if you dont get your price. BTW make sure you print out the invoice prices from this website, dealers do not like to talk about invoice pricing, you will have to bring it up and you will have to know exactly what the price is (thus make sure you print it out with the appropriate options).
Definately do not pay a deposit before you have a contract in your hand, or preferably before they are ready to give you the car.
I doubt you will get a very good deal if you have to order a car, however. Dealers usually give the best deals on cars that have been waiting on their parking lots for too long.
"the other advice is:
1. if they agree -- get it in writing then and there (i had them fax it to me)
2. they will do anything they can to get you to put a downpayment on the car while they continue processing... dont do it unless they have the car and youre ready to buy right then.
the place im dealing with doesnt have the car and i stupidly gave them 500 bucks down, now they are dragging their feet getting it...."
--------
I see you and I are in the same boat, fax deal, 500 bucks deposit, and have waited 2 weeks for delivery. (I was given a VIN though). I'm wondering about this non-refundable deposit. Can we get the credit card company, Better Business Bureau, or Infiniti main office involved? I'd rather get the deposit back than go through this BS, it's already getting close to July monthend.
I had a very bad feeling when they kept asking for a down payment, but I was thinking 'how hard can it be to get the car from another dealer'?. The other thing I could kick myself for, is not having them put in writing on the invoice they faxed me, a time limit after which the money can be refunded. If they dont get the car, I'm just hoping they dont say waiting 2 weeks is a reasonable amount of time...
I actually dont understand what they are doing. They acted eager to sale the car to me and then they arent following through finding one. Makes no sense to me...
You sure are in a tight spot with that kind of a move. At this point, are you better off even losing the $500 and trying for an end-July or later price, after you've moved? Maybe it will even out.
Can you email and ask to be given a VIN number? They could not guarantee you a sale if they hadn't located the car. I checked my VIN on carfax, matches up to 2005 G35X, so I feel ok with that. I hope Infiniti doesn't do things like roll back odometer or something.
I'm scheduled for Mon. delivery, but am going to call Infiniti on Monday. I think when the sale is completed, they tell you about an Infiniti survey on the sale and ask you to give them top marks. That may be one weapon to use also.
You are welcome and good luck. And seeing the experiences of the other people here you are probably better off not ordering a car thats not on the lot. It would probably be better to hunt down the car yourself from the other dealerships, by using the inventory search of the infiniti website.
P.S. I am a lawyer and I represent a lot of car dealers from throughout Nor Cal and let me assure you they are making PLENTY of money. Let me repeat PLENTY. Do not shed a tear for them when they only sell a car barely over "invoice."
also, what are the options that you find necessary? i am definitely looking into the premium package and navigation. i know some options are really not worth the money.
help will be greatly appreciated and if anyone has pictures of the stone interior that would be great too. i have not been able to find any on the net.
the only problem is, to save money all of the panelling from the upper edge of the door to the roof is the same color in all of the cars, regardless of the seat color. its tan
I got a car with stone and had the odd feeling that something wasnt right. then i noticed the roof was a different color than the rest of the interior. Its most noticable in the back seat where the panels come in direct contact....
Plus you might want to do a test drive :P :P
I think it is a very nice color combination. My wife didn't like the yellow hue of the wheat and I have to agree with her.
At the end of the day, it is a personal preference.
I prefer a darker interior to a lighter one. Seems to me that would show dust or age less on the inside (outside works differently). Others may disagree. It's worth going to a couple of dealers, and looking at the various cars they have. I went to one on a Sunday evening when they're closed, and walked around all the new G35's just checking out the exterior and interior (as much as the taped exterior allowed).
By the way, I made a call to Infiniti today, to get full details on the specific VIN I was given, since I had reservations about it. They are super-helpful and pleasant, and read out every detail on the car, manufacture date, what dealerships it had been to before arriving at mine, every factory installed option, exactly what to look for before picking up the car. Specifically, to check the odometer on the car, because the 60,000 mile coverage means 60,000 on the meter. To look for scratches. Even said make the dealer answer why it took so long to get the car for delivery, look through the Mulrooney sticker, and better to lose $500 deposit than end up with the car you aren't happy with. "Don't sign anything till you look at your car to your satisfaction". Now that's a classy manufacturer. Give them a call if you have a VIN and haven't picked it up yet.
Back to the regularly-scheduled program, I actually like the Wheat. I wanted a lighter interior, and it is a nice contrast with the dark blue exterior. The Stone, I think, may be easier to keep clean, but both look great. Again, it is just a matter of personal preference. The only way to really know is to look at the actual car.
i've heard and read they've done changes to the 2005 infiniti for the better. i will definitely go take a look.
The car looks/sounds great.
This is my first luxury vehicle, so I came to expect a little more from it then my previous car (an '02 Accord).
My biggest issue with the car is the driver's seat. I do not know what it is about Nissan cars (have the same issue with my cousin's Altima), but long drives can be very uncomfortable. The seat fits you real nice in the beginning, but about 40 minutes into the trip everything from the neck down begins to hurt. I've played with the controls enough at this point to realize its not a configuration issue -- its just how the seat is.
Also, having to lean down below the hand rest on the driver door to open the window is not the most comfortable thing in the world -- I am average height (5'8"), and I have to lean to reach the controls.
And of course there's the real gas mileage (not EPA) -- I am getting a consistent 14 mpg around the city and short trips around (NYC metro area) with the AC on.
All in all -- I love the way my car looks, and it was the main reason I got it.
As far as a daily commuter goes, I must say my Accord beat the G in every category except for pickup (my G does not have NAVI) and looks, so if this will be your only car -- make sure your test drive is a long one.
I do have a few questions (maybe more later):
1) Most important question - What's the best price we can get in the New York/New Jersey area for the following models-
2005 G35x base auto
2005 G35x with premium package C
We would like to get a navi system, but it looks like the navi systems on Acura/Honda & Lexus/Toyota vehicles are better. It looks like the Infiniti/Nissan navi comes in third place ahead of BMW, Audi, DC, etc. It also raises the price to over $36K. I also heard that the sun washes out the screen since it's more exposed than other navi screens. We're thinking about buying the new Garmin Street Pilot 2710 and saving $2-3K. What do you think ?
2) Any changes expected for the 2006 models ? I know the 2005 model just got some changes/new features (MMC) so basically the 2006 model will be about the same. I'm just checking to make sure.
3) I noticed that Diamond Graphite (the color of our rental and the color we want) is not that common compared to the silver on the new inventory pages of a few dealers in our area. Is that color difficult to get ?
4) Does the full-size tire you get with the premium package take up a lot of space ? We plan to go to the dealer next week to find out for ourselves. We're busy this week and besides, next week is the last week of the month.
5) Does the MP3 player support ID3 tags ? I played around with the system in the rental (base sound system with MP3) and couldn't get the ID3 tags to display when I played a MP3 CD-R. I downloaded the owner's manual from Nissan/Infiniti tech website for the 05 G35 and it lists ID3 tag support in the specs. of the sound system. I want to know if I can scroll thru folders/file names.
6) Some songs with alot of bass caused some minor vibration sounds on the driver's door/area. Anyone experience this ?
7) Any interior surfaces prone to dents ? (the Acura TL has some)
Thanks.
~Teddy
Oddly, I got the deal I was looking for from the only Infiniti dealer in the Oklahoma City metro area, Bob Moore. I had written them off because when I first went to the dealership looking at used G35s, I spoke to a particular salesperson. When I went back after deciding I would buy new instead, I made it a point to ask for the same salesperson. Big mistake. He told me that MTs were rare and that if I was talking much of a discount, I might as well not bother. He acted as though it was a lot of trouble just check to see whether a car with the combo I wanted was available. And he never followed up with me.
After writing them off I later called the dealership just to ask a question about G35s, so I didn't bother to ask for the same guy. The new person I talked to did what salespeople are supposed to do--he tried to sell me. I told him I preferred to buy local but since the first salesperson made it clear that they were unwilling to deal, I was going to buy elsewhere. Long story short (or is it too late for that?) after a few days of negotiation I got the deal I was wanted on the car I wanted from the dealer I wanted.
Lesson learned: it makes a big difference which salesperson you deal with and even though I tried to remain loyal to my original salesperson, he almost cost the dealership a local buyer.
By the way, when I met the first salesperson I made it clear that was going to buy a car (was not just "looking") when I found the right deal and I was driving the Boxster S that I get serviced at the same dealer, so it's not like he didn't think I could afford the car. For whatever the reason, the first guy was just a slug. With the second salesperson he even had the sales manager calling me and aggressively competed for my business.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the good advice!
The full-size spare sits flat in the trunk; there are styrofaom pads that surround it to give the trunk a flat surface. The space saver does not have the pads, and the surface is not quite flat after all. IMO, you are not losing any usable space.
I tried listening to "Beneath the Missouri Sky" (acoustic guitar and bass) cd while on the highway, and I could barely hear it because of road/tire noise. I love my car, so I just bring louder cds!
It seems to me that Diamond Graphite is less common than Silver, but I've seen plenty around. I wanted Garnet Fire/Willow, and the dealer located one in Massapequa for me, and brought it to White Plains.
The center stack can get scratched up by bags and things when getting in, so be careful if you like to keep your stuff up front.
I can't personally justify paying for a Nav system. I have a road atlas and metro area map in the trunk, and Mapquest at home. Posters have mentioned that aftermarket Nav systems (suction cupped onto the inside of the windshield) go for about $600. Plus, without Nav, you gain two storage spaces. The space for the display is great for sunglass cases and cellphones.
Can't help with the other stuff.
Good luck!
What do u think? Should I head to the finance office or call around to dealerships outside my city? :confuse:

Did you get the higher money factor because of the fact you did this last month?
Where did you get this information from? Those money factors look pretty good!
I got the numbers from another site, but unfortunately the rules of this forum do not allow posting links -- I've had mine removed in the past. If you want to find the source -- try putting "IFS Captive Lease Programs" in Google.
I am not sure. It is entirely possible that the coupes are selling so well in your part of the country (where are you by the way?) that they wont sell them for anything but MSRP.
Maybe you can take some time off or look for another car and see if the infiniti dealers get nervous.
Asking them to give you a price is like a guy asking you how low you will sell your house for. You know the number in your head, but you don't want to tell the guy that.
i found a dealer willing to take 300 over invoice in the north east. i'm moving to dallas and talked to people at crest infiniti and they werent willing to match that price but i think you can find a better deal that what youre looking at. Just to give you an idea, a dealer in boston was willing to take 35400 for a black/black manual coupe with nav, premium, aero kit, splash guards and trunk mat. the estimated invoice for that is 30000 (without holdback or destination fee) + 1800 (nav) + 2112 (premium) +154 (aerokit) + 80 (splash) +50 (trunk) = about 34000. add on 610 for destination and the 600-1000 holdback and its pretty close to invoice.
print out invoice prices from this site, take them with you to the dealer. decide how much you want to pay for the car based on the invoice (i wouldnt go more than 500 over invoice) and just tell them that. see what they say. the common line is "this car is very hard to find... quite rare actually... youre lucky its still here" even though its been there for 3 weeks. also i dont hesitate to pull out a calculator and figure up how much profit they are making off the price they are asking and discussing it with them.
good luck

The dealer at Lupient Infiniti in Minneapolis originally offered me
$34700 sale price = $425+tax/mo
Residual = 60% Money Factor = .00133
When I ran the numbers myself I came up with a $15 less per month at that sale price. I went in the next day to see what the deal was and apparently they were trying to hide a $550 acquisition fee in the deal. Is this a B!@# S$%^ fee that I should try to have waived, or is that normal practice, $550 seems high for obtaining my credit info and administration costs?
They also push this paint sealer by wolfgang, they list MSRP of it as $499, and when I inquired about it they agreed to drop the sale price to $34600 claiming that the invoice was figured into the $34700 and invoice for the paint sealer was $100 (you can buy a bucket of this stuff for $30). They weren't to resistant to dropping the paint sealer after I mentioned the car doesn't even arrive until mid August.
I see the invoice price of this vehicle at $30030 + $3175 + $610 = $33815, is this a reasonable offer to make for the sale price? It appears from other posts people have been able to get invoice and in some instances below invoice... The dealer mentioned he did have 30+ of these vehicles around...
I have yet to hear back from Luther Infiniti.
So far I have:
MSRP = $36940 (dealer reported $37100)
Invoice = $33815
Dealer Cost = ?
anyone know what the dealer cost of the vehicle is?
36 mo/15k mi - 58% residual – Money Factor .00113 Base Rate
36 mo/12k mi - 59% residual – Money Factor .00113 Base Rate
Second, the $550 is unfortunately a valid charge -- no way around it. Most manufacturers' leases have an aquisition fee of $500-$700 -- which in my opinion makes leasing for less then 3 years not worth it. Paint sealer is crap (naturally), since you are covered by the factory warranty for 4 years/ 60k, and since you'll give the car back before then, let somebody else worry about it. My dealer tried to sell me headlight guards as well -- also $399 and about $50 if I put them on myself.
One thing the dealer did offer that may be worth it (especially for people getting the coupe with sport package), is tire insurance. Mine was offered for $399 for 5 years (conviniently, they do not carry the 3 year package that would go with my lease).
This insurance will replace tires/rims if they are damaged beyond repair, and provide you with extra road side assistance and tire repair coverage. It's called InTire protection or something to that effect.
As far as your price is concerned -- I leased my base with sunroof last month (Granted it was not MN, but rather PA), with a selling price of about 31,900, invoice of 31,704, and MSRP at $34,330. To find true dealer cost, you would probably have to order a copy of consumer reports -- I hear they provide exact numbers. Generally, I believe holdback is at 2% (not sure of invoice or msrp), but most dealers get upset and start yelling "don't go into my pocket" when you mention the word holdback, so this late in the year, especially on a car with premium package (more holdback $$), you should be able to get invoice. If you know what the payments should be at the price level you want (invoice), just tell your dealer the deal details (not "I wanna buy for invoice", but "here's the exact deal i'm getting from .. fill in the blank.. ") as though you have the deal elsewhere. You can call the other dealer and get a name to throw at them. If they are reasonable, and can see you know exactly what you are after, they will usually match that deal. If they don't match invoice, or 200-300 above -- you need to find another dealer.
Black on black, 6 speed manual, nav (I didnt really want this), premium, splash guards, aero package (spoiler), trunk mat for 35.4k (before TTL). Final after TTL was 37.5k.
I figure this was right at or just below invoice:
Base car (holdback -- guessing 800 removed): 29800
Premium: 2112
Nav: 1805 (what a rip off!)
Aeropackage: 530
Splash: 154
Trunk mat: 58
******************
Total Invoice: 34459
Destination: 610
******************
Grand total Invoice: 35069
The dealer claimed thier invoice (likely including holdback) was 35884.
So considering the car, I feel pretty good about the price but I am urked that I had to get a car with Nav since that is an option that is really over priced (my handheld can do it for 100 bucks), it adds next to nothing to resale value, and I dont really need it.... But Black on Black is hard to find in my area.
My original offer was 34.8 and they countered with 35.4 then would not budge despite 2 days of my haggling. The MSRP is around 39.7.
My questions are. Do you think this was a good price?
And how do people think car dealers are compensating for the fact that invoice values are now so easily available on the web? Do you think Infiniti is inflating the invoice price just so people will feel good about getting a final price near invoice?
The nav system is not that useless because the trip computer (which gives you gas mileage) is only accessible from there.
