(original post edited to remove name of salesman)

Just bought our 2005 G35 sedan on Friday. For the last several weeks we had been working with West Houston Infiniti and thought we'd been doing okay with one salesman in particular. When it came time to getting the car we wanted, the salesman told us he didn't have it in stock, but would try to get it in from another dealer in time for our appointment. As it turns out, they didn't bring the car over and tried to sell us what they had on the lot. Not all that surprising to imagine after the fact. To bring the car that we wanted down to their location meant an additional $500 freight charge.

West Houston Infiniti also has what they refer to as a "WE CARE" program -- 2 years/25,000 miles of "FREE" maintenance (the oil changes, tire rotations, detailing, first two scheduled check-ups, etc.) which they include as a dealer add-in on the vehicle. The first catch? It's only valid at their dealership. The second catch? It's $600... but they kept trying to tell us it was actually about $1400 worth of work, so they were saving us money. Any way you slice it, it's not free and you don't really have a choice... The "WE CARE" program is little more than those mandatory "coupon booklets" that other car dealers have been selling their customers. Not a good value at all.

Not only was their VPP pricing not competitive (true VPP discount of the base invoice, but full MSRP on all the options), but they were very inflexible in negotiating on any part of the price. At first, he said we might be able to order the exact car we were looking for (we wouldn't have minded), but then he came back saying that Infiniti wouldn't take anymore dealer orders. After much haggling, they offered to waive the $500 freight charge and let us off the "WE CARE" program -- not waiving the $600, but just not offering us the service either. The best we could do with them was still above the Edmunds TMV prices and nowhere close to invoice pricing.

We left West Houston Infiniti that day pretty disappointed, but figured one of the other Houston area dealers might have the exact car we wanted. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case, so we started looking online outside of Houston.

After emailing a few dealers in the Dallas area, I got a prompt response from the Internet Sales Manager at Crest Infiniti in Plano. He had exactly what we were looking for -

    2005 G35 sedan auto

    - black on black
    - premium C
    - navigation
    - XM radio
    - window tinting

There was very little need to negotiate - he offered a very competitive VPP price that was approximately $1200 less than West Houston Infiniti's best VPP offer right off the bat. Not only was he extremely professional, but he was also very understanding about our situation. It was a Tuesday and we figured out that we wouldn't be able to make it up there until Friday. He held the car for us without securing a credit card because he understood how we might have reservations about committing to a car sight-unseen. Very cool of him.

We were still somewhat wary when we arrived at Crest on Friday morning. Before we met our salesman, we saw the car... it looked perfect... better than perfect. Not only was it absolutely spotless -- washed and buffed to a shine, but it already had splash guards and a trunk mat (not anywhere on our original wishlist, but a bonus nonetheless). We figured that these extras would find their way into the price somehow, but when we finally met he never even brought them up. He just threw them in at the already agreed upon price. Other minor things - a small bubble in the window tinting (fixed while we were financing the vehicle), and wheel lock installation ($40 instead of the $70-ish that West Houston Infiniti offered) - were a breeze.

I gave him my word that I wouldn't publish the exact VPP price we got, but we did very well -- far below the TMV "what other people are paying price" on Edmunds (and Edmunds has nowhere to add in window tinting or wheel locks) and very close to invoice.

My only gripe - and this is typical of financing through the dealer anywhere from what I understand - was all the extra stuff the finance manager tried to pack in. Either way, we didn't go for any of it... but it kept us at the dealer longer than we would have liked.

Our salesman was a real class guy -- absolutely zero pressure -- and I really recommend him to anyone who is looking for a pleasant Infiniti-buying experience.

I recently received a quote of $32,660 for a G35X with automatic transmission and sunroof. This is approximately $1,000 over invoice and $1,800 off of sticker. This is slightly less than the EdmundsTMV price. Does anyone have a feel for whether this is a good price, particularly for Pittsburgh?
  • wvpilot1wvpilot1 Member Posts: 10
We are just about ready to do the same. I have been trying to dig around and have not found much info. I did see a few messages stating that Pittsburgh pricing was high. Some have gone to the DC area or Cleveland. Did you get your quote from Cochran? Keep us posted on your negotiations.

    Hi all,

here is what I'm getting now as a lease offer in Phila area, PA:

2005 G35x in twilight blue and wheat interior with sunroof and trunk mat, MSRP $34,330, selling price $32,000, invoice is $31,560 and my dealer cost is $31,704. Using 12k miles/yr, money factor .00185 and 60% residual...

    Option 1:
36 mos @ $440.81/mo incl PA sales tax and with $1200 inceptions (1st mo, bank fee, tax on same and tags). Actual inception is $1175.97.

    Option 2:
Add two $450 security deposits = $900 = reduction of 0001 in the money factory for each security deposit = new money factor of .00165 = new payment of $429.26/mo.

What do you think about this deal? Any chance I can get invoice somewhere around Phila? NYC/ Long Island will do as well.

Does anybody know anything about putting down multiple security deposits? What are the risks? If I owe any money for the car at lease end, Infiniti Financial will come after me anyway, so if I have multiple deposits out -- are they more likely to mess with me, or is every dealer in the world trying to talk me out of it because they get less kickback from a lower money factor??

    Thanks.

PS> I did post this question in the leasing forum, but noone seems to be able to answer it there...

I got a quote in Virginia for any G35 on the lot at invoice plus TTL (but including the processing fee).

    Eliot2,

That is an incredible deal!!! How did you pull that off? What dealership did you buy from? Did you buy the new 2005 model? I would like to hear from you back.

    Hi all
Thanks to the great info here, i am going to look for a good deal on a g35x in the nyc/nj/pa area. my question is: being a NY resident, if i buy the car in PA and sign up for 2.9% infiniti financing in PA, how will the title/registration work? if anyone has out of state buying experience, pls let me know
    Thanks

Dealer offered $37500 (before TTL) for a '05 G35 Coupe 6MT with the the following options: P01 Premium Package, U01 Infiniti Navigation Package, R95 Aero Kit w/Rear Spoiler; dealer has to charge $400 for application fees. They don't want to let go of the fees. Just came from another dealer before this offer came in, they'll call me possibly next week with their best price. Both dealers have to order the car & has to wait 90days. Color - Athens Blue.
Is the first one good enough or should I wait for the second to call?
  • jacklevjacklev Member Posts: 1
could you let me know the options that came with this - sounds like i'm looking for something and your info is helpful

    thanks

No, its a brand new 2004, i got a good deal because it was a 2004 i guess!
Once i got there the dealer messup my rim also thru the car wash, so
they dropped another 750 off which is how i got to 29350, but i got it fixed for $90.
Overall the best deal ive ever seen, exactly what i wanted too....silver/black interior, every option except for navigation, and 6MT.

Diamond Graphite, Graphite leather, Premium Package, Aero Package with spoiler, navigation, splash guards, Sirius satellite radio, trunk mat

    MSRP: $39,650
    Invoice: $36,229
    Paid: $36,600

Picked-up this past Wednesday. Car is awesome.

Be patient at the dealership and you will get a better deal. I walked away from a deal with the same dealer in March. At that time they did not have the car I wanted on their lot. Went back in June knowing the car I wanted was on their lot and got the deal I was looking for.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Who knows, but in general the longer you wait the sweeter the deal (car price, financing, or both) but the less the selection.

If you are not picky about options and colors or just want what all the dealers have 10 of right now, the waiting may produce a better deal. If only one color will do and with only certain options, then you may be better off to find that now and get it.

Of course, if you are driving a old crummy car I would get a new G now and start enjoying the drive.

The July lease and maybe finance numbers should be out on Thursday and that may give a clue as to which way the wind is blowing.

Got mine yesterday (6/14). Similar car and deal. Laser Red / Wheat '05 6MT, Premium Package, Aero Package with Spoiler, Splash Guards, Navigaton Package, Sirius, Trunk Mat, but mine included Roadblock ($595).

    MSRP: $39,650, $40,245 with Roadblock
    Paid: $36,850

I was going to order an '06 for Fall delivery from the dealer where I'll get it serviced but I found another dealer who quoted this price over the phone and had it in stock. Didn't really want the Nav package, but what the heck - couldn't pass it up! And the car doesn't suck either.
  • olympus8080olympus8080 Member Posts: 9
When are the 06 coming out? I could not find any information on the net. Are there any changes planned?
I am looking to get a 05 G35x Auto with Premium Package C. I live in Chicago Suburbs and the current offer I have from my dealer is $500 over invoice. He did not give me the exact number yet, (hoping the dealer invoice is the same as Edmunds invoice).
Is this a good price or should I haggle more?
Do anyone have good experience with any chicago land dealers?
I have been in contact with Infiniti of Lisle and Motor Werks at Barrington.

Please let me know what price you got? Also when is the 1.9% & 2.9% financing set to expire?

    Thanks,

Should I get a 100,000 mile warranty with my new 05 G35x AUTO with Premium Package?

How much does it cost and is it worth it to buy for a japanese car? (Since they are very reliable)

I got a 100,000 mile warranty on my previous Honda and never had to use it (so spent $800 for nothing)

What extras should I negotiate when I am signing the deal? (Mats, free servicing for year, any other suggestions?)

P.S - I am looking for the car in Chicago suburbs dealers
  • olympus8080olympus8080 Member Posts: 9
I went to Infiniti Of Lisle and this is what we agreed on -
    05 G35x (AWD) + Premium Package C + Trunk Mat + All season mats (Rubber) + Splash guards + 1yr oil changes (worth $120).
All this for $33656 before Tax, doc and license.

What do you guys think. Please reply soon

I ended up purchasing from Cochran. Got a G35X, black with stone interior, sunroof, trunk matter and splash guards for $32,500. I got a quote as well from a dealer in Cleveland for $32,200 for a similar car, but not in the color that I wanted (Twilight Blue). It wasn't worth it to me to drive to Cleveland for $300 for a car that I was not crazy about.

The price is about $200 under Edmunds TMV and $900 over invoice.

    Hope that helps.
  • wvpilot1wvpilot1 Member Posts: 10
Thanks for the reply. The initial quote they gave me was approx $1400 over invoice. I have not pushed them on it yet, but plan to. Did you attempt to negotiate much? Pretty dismal we have to settle for $900 over invoice, yet those in NY or DC get it for approx $600 less. I have heard good things about their service. Enjoy your car!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That is a good deal. MSRP, according to Consumer Reports, ranges from 29,360 to about 34,000, plus there is a hold back of about 900. The MT coupe is the most expensive.

I am either looking at the 6-speed with or without navi (hopefully with). What type of prices should I expect? Any good financing rates now? Any other stuff I can get the dealer to through in? Any advice for a Infiniti noob would be highly helpful.

    Thank you,

I gave you the MSRP, and the G35 coupe with a 6-speed is the most expensive. It is a great car for the price. :shades:

    Hi

I'm currently trying to search for a G35x with a premium package C. I have tried to talk to Kelly Infiniti in Davers, MA but they are offering me a price of $34500 not including sales tax. As I was reading the forums I saw people who were able to get better prices then me( reference message #1941). Kelly Inifiniti already lied to me and said that prices don't get any lower then that, and i've walked out of their door. Can someone please tell me where I can go to get a better deal. This is my first time buying from Inifniti. Please some one help me!!!!

Just picked up a 2005 G35x with Premium Package C, Wood Package, & Trunk Mat for $33,799.

    MSRP: $37080
MSRP according to Cars Direct: $37230
Invoice according to Cars Direct: $34067

Since the Cars Direct MSRP is $150 higher, I'm assuming that the true invoice price is $36917. Using this logic I got the car for $118 below invoice.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Consumer Reports states that MSRP is 33,960 and there is a 900 hold back.

Hats off to Crest Infiniti of Plano, TX. I purchased a new G35 Sedan standard package w/sunroof and tint on June 18. The sales consultant, sales manager and finance manager were all very professional, courteous and easy to work with and made the purchase a pleasurable experience. I was able to purchase the car for less than TMV and the 2.9% finance rate is definately hard to beat. If you are in the market, I suggest giving them a try.

    Here is my new car:
    - Silver G35 6MT sedan
    - Premium Package, XM radio option, dealer-installed spoiler

Here is the deal I got:
    - MSRP: $34,910 (not including dealer-installed spoiler, wheel locks, etc.)
    - Cap Cost: $34,043
    - $740 down includes 1st monthly payment
    - 38 additional monthly payments @ $465.
    - Money factor = .00210

I thought the deal was great compared to the 325 and A4 I was also considering, but not that great relative to other peoples' deals on G35s. But my dealer only had one 6MT and has a monopoly on Infinitis in the Portland area.

Thus far, the car kicks serious butt and blows away the Mazda6 I traded in. The Bose stereo with XM has been much better than advertised. Gas mileage is only noticeable drawback thus far.
  • vrroommmvrroommm Member Posts: 1
Solid price. That's -300 below invoice (edmunds), before oil change value.
It'll be hard to beat that one.
I'm picking up my RWD G35, pkg B, sport pkg w/ Aero & Mats (33,400 [+250.00 over inv.] ) from them on Friday, can't wait.
  • olympus8080olympus8080 Member Posts: 9
Yes it is a good price. The dealer did not agree to the free oil changes. But still it was a great deal. I still got the car for hundereds under ivoice.
If anyone is seriously considering a Infiniti vehicle let me know.
I have a good contact in Infiniti Of lisle and he is a very good salesman to work with. No pressure, No BS, just plain numbers talk and great service.

    magus1,
I was looking at the G35x over the weekend in the BOSTON Area. I deal with all the dealers the same way and it's no exception with this vehicle. With the G35x, I told the dealer that I am looking between that and the Acura TL (when he asked rather I was comparing vehicles, they usually ask this). Of course, with that, you have to tell him you are planning to test drive the TL after you test drive the G35x.

In the beginning, I don't pretend to know a lot even though I might have done hrs of research. That way, you can see how honest the salesperson is. I test drove the G35x. The dealer told me that the G35x blows the TL out of the water, etc. (He told me the following which I thought was a lie...which I confirmed with a friend who has a G35x. He said that the 17/24mpg is only true in snowy/rainy weather when it engages AWD. In normal conditions it's 22/27mpg since it runs RWD in "nice" weather. Unless someone can correct me here, I would assume he is lying.)

After the test drive, we sat down and talked for a few minutes. He said he would take a few thousand off...blah blah, 2.9%apr blah blah. The salesperson ALWAYS wants you to buy it on the spot and they want you to ASK for the price. This way, they can go to the manager and get the greatest deal in the world for you. Since you know the invoice prices and the actual purchase prices ppl are paying, don't bother asking.

Anyhow, the guy let me walked out without asking me if I want to purchase the G35x, told me to test drive the TL and he said he would call me to do a follow-up yesterday. I went home, didn't even bother to go test drive the TL.

He called yesterday, I didn't pick up his call. I knew he would call again. He called today and asked how the TL was. I said "Well, the G35 is more fun to drive and has more power but the TL has MORE standard features,a nicer interior and seems to be a little more luxurius. I like the power, my wife LOVES the luxury." (I had already looked up the TL's invoice prices and what ppl say in regards to both vehicles. It PAYS to do homework.)

Sensing the WIFE factor, he immediately asked for the prices the TL dealer quoted me. I said "with/o nav...I think it's 30,899. With nav, it's 31,999" Both of the numbers are around invoice. I heard him writing down the numbers :) Then he said how good the G35x is...blah blah AWD, blah blah TL, FWD blah. Then I said "Ok. Give me 2 numbers. 1) base-model with sunroof. 2) G35X with packageC". He said ok, and he would call me back.

He must have went and talked to the manager. He called back and gave me 2 numbers. 1)$31895 base+sunroof (this ia a few hundred over invoice) 2)$33,795 for Pck C (this is invoice price). Both of which includes the destination charges. I told him that I needed to talk with my wife. He told me to take my time and he would call back on Thursday.

So, the next time we talk, I will tell him that my wife likes the TL better and squeeze him to go under invoice. I read a post here that someone got the 35X with pck C for $33300. Not that $500 is a lot of money...it's a matter of principle. If someone can get it for $33300, I should be able to get it for $33300 also, not $33795. Anyhow, if he refuses, then I will just say "Well, sorry that you can't go lower, a friend got his at KellyInfinite for lower than invoice, and I was hoping you could match that." And a 2nd round of negotiation will begin.

Anyhow, thanks for reading. I guess this is the break down...
    1) Do your research on this vehicle and a competative vehicle, use that to your advantage.
    2) Never ask the dealers for a number while you are in the showroom
    3) When he calls you, use the "my wife" factor and that she like this and that on the other car. Then U pretend to be on his side and ask for the best numbers he can give you.
    4) Tell him you need to discuss this with your WIFE again.
    5) Begin 2nd round of negotiations if you think he really wants to sell you the car.

But I guess I didn't answer your question straight out. Infiniti of Norwood offered me G35x with Pck C for $33,795 including destination charges before I give them a counter-offer :)

    Good luck to you.
  • magus1magus1 Member Posts: 2
Thank You for your help serigus. I will do some more research. Please write about your next conversation with dealer whenever you have time. I would like to know more about your negotiation. And maybe I can get the same price price that you are looking for.

    Best of luck for you

I guess its time for me to give back to the community:

This was from Infiniti of Willow Grove (Philly area)

June 11, leased a G35X base with sunroof and trunk mat, twilight blue.

    MSRP : $34,330
    Selling price : $31,825.32

Paid a total of $1200 up front, broken down by the dealer as follows
(for some reason, they like adding all the fees to the cost of the car,
and then calling everything except your first payment "cap cost reduction".
More power to then, since I don't care how they call it -- I still know
    what I paid).

    1st payment : $435
    cap cost reduction: $579.36
    title fee: $22.50
    reg. fee: $51.00
tax on cap cost red: $52.14
    doc fee: $55.00
    tire tax: $5.00

    Total : $1200

Total cap cost of the car (after they add in the acquisition fee) : $32,375.32.
My payment is $435/mo. PA has 9% tax where I am. Base monthly payment (before tax) is 399.08

I know the residual for the 35X this month is at 61% and MF is at .00185 for a 36 month lease. For the sedan, residual and MF for a 39 month lease work out to the same payment, so if you are thinking about that -- don't. You can always extend your lease later for a few extra months by just placing a phone call, and it really isn't worth signing up for a longer lease this month -- the difference is literally 40 cents a month or so.

Keep in mind IFS residuals/MF for each "flavor" of the G is different -- RWD and coupe have different numbers, so my lease is indicative only of the X.

Also, gas mileage is noticeable -- city/traffic numbers are closer to 15 mpg, while on the highway looks more like 20-21.

I have been reading recent posts for both G35 and Acura TL purchases. In reviewing inventory in my area (Charlotte, NC) seems to be a glut of G35 (30 +) on dealer lost within 100 mile radius, not so many TLs. Does anyone have insight to:

    1. When 2006 G35 or Acura TL models will arrive?
    2. Possible extension of current G35 financing deals to the month of July and beyond?

In any case, I'll be glad to share purchase experience when I complete the deal for either model.

I've been trading emails with a dealership in Ventura, CA and here's what I've been offered.

    G35 Coupe
    -Premium package
    -Sports-tuned suspension package
    -Aero package
    -Splash guards
    -Trunk mat

for $35,322. Invoice is $34,908. I'll let everyone know if I can get it lower, but as it stands right now, what do you all think?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Just don't email one dealership, contact several and let them bid against each other. Additionally, let Infinity know you are interested in other makes such as BMW or a TL, even if you are really not interested in these other cars. Get quotes from these other cars too and, as a result, you have a much stronger bidding position. ;)
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
I did not really follow the price for the last 2 months or so but for $400 over invoice is pretty good for the coupe. I got the coupe in Jan for $800 over invoice in Phila area. Other dealers want $1500 to $2500 over invoice.

I'm in the NYC area looking to purchase G35x also and would be interested in the dealer you received the best price from. I was quoted over a $1000 higher for the car you described at a connecticut dealer. It sounds like you got a great deal!

I am new to this board and I was wondering if anyone has any past experience purchasing from CarsDirect. They are currently listing a G35 RWD Automatic for $29,227 (including destination) for the Southern California area, which is $100 over invoice, according to Edmunds. I am wondering how the process works with buying a car from them, e.g., where would I pick up the car and can I still get financing through Infiniti to take advantage of their 2.9% financing, etc. Also, is this a good price for Southern California? Thanks!

When negotiating with deals around MSRP vs Invoice, how does this apply to options/packages such as the premium package that sells for MSRP of $2450? There must be an "invoice level price for this as well but how do I know what might be a reasonable negotiated price for any particular package or option? Can anyone help me with this???

OK. So I am definately ready to lease the G35 coupe. Any suggestions on good dealerships on LI??? When going in to negotiate do I not tell them I want to lease and just talk sale price. Plus I need to get out of a lease (around 30 months left) err... think that will be a prob?

I am no car expert, but it is my understanding that your lease payment is based on the difference between your negotiated sale price and the residual value. Therefore it seems to be in your best interest to know that you are paying as little above dealer cost as possible. It has been my experience that once some dealers know you intend to lease, they immediately send you to the finance manager and negotiate in terms of monthly payment. I will argue that removes your control because it is difficult to know what one dollar in a lease payment translates to in terms of extra dealer profit. If you can control their profit, you will minimize your lease payment.

With 30 months remaining on your lease, you may have a big problem. What was the original time frame of the lease? Did you pay any additional money up front when you leased your current car? It is very likely you may have to pay to get out of your lease early. How much is your question. With the G35, if you negotiate a sales price close to dealer cost, the dealer will very likely have nothing left to help you get out of your lease early. Good luck.

It will likely be very costly to get out of a lease early - the dealer has nothing to do with that; it's between you and the finance company. You can call them to find out what it will take to get out of the lease. You can also visit our discussion called Lease Termination Fees and other costs for more info and advice.

I got it from Millenium in Manhasset. They were relatively easy to deal with. I actually had an email from Smithtown with a similar price that I got them to match since they were closer to where I live. Massapequa also would have given me a similar price. The only one who wouldn't match it was Atlantic in Lynbrook, in fact I spoke to the internet mgr who gave me a price and when I went there, their price was $200 higher than what was quoted on the phone. Very unprofessional and I felt like I was in a Nissan dealership, not an Infiniti luxury car dealer I started out by emailing all 4 dealerships, telling them exactly what options I wanted. If you're leasing make sure you get the latest money factor and residual from Car_man on the leasing forum so that you get the best deal.

Could you pass along the name of the dealer at Lisle? I've been calling various dealers in the Chicagoland area, and my best quote thus far is $34700 (G35x with Premium C and XM radio). Given that this is about $600 over invoice, it sounds like I could do much better. Thanks.

    stalnaker,
it's been a while since you posted, did you decide to buy from Cincinnati? If so, what model/price?

Been emailing back and forth and got them to chop off another $93, to bring it down to $35,229. Gonna take this quote to my local dealership and give them a final chance to beat it.
