The document processing fee is not a set number. It basically is extra profit. Some states have laws that limit the amount but I don't believe Virginia is one.
I'm taking delivery on Monday and I don't expect more surprises, but certainly will be on guard. Will report again.

Started at Peninsula Infiniti in Redwood City. Test drove a 2004, about 2 weeks ago. Stayed in contact with sales person, but wasn't ready to proceed or commit. Shopped with Edmunds, asked for 3 dealer quotes on the internet. Also shopped 3 other dealers looking for a great deal on a gently used 2004, but in the end, thought we could do better on a 2005. April 29, Peninsula Infiniti called to ask if we were still interested. Told him we had shopped around and he said "bring in your deals, and we'll beat 'em". Morning of April 30, got a great internet deal offer from Infiniti of Serramonte. Here are the numbers and how it worked out. We believe that we got a really sweet deal.
Infinti of Serramonte (Colma) MSRP 34,860 / 31,927 Invoice + 750 for the spoiler installed
Internet deal 3,688 off G35 with Premium Package (They had an Ivory one!)
Niello Infiniti (Concord, CA) MSRP 34,860. no spoiler
Peninsula Infiniti (Redwood City, CA) MSRP 35,140 + 808 for spoiler installed
We purchased on April 30 at Peninsula Infiniti, got a great deal!
We paid 32,000 + tax and license (including spoiler, installed)
Edmunds TMV is 33,770 without the spoiler, Edmunds Invoice 32,164!
We also got the 1.9%, 36 month financing (simple interest, no prepayment penalty), 0 down. In all, we were in and out in about 3 hours, start to finish. Spoiler will be installed next week.
Also, was investigating several lease options. I thought the following was pretty good. I welcome your comments.
- $2,350 down, includes everything (registration, bank fee, doc fee, 1st pmt, capital reduction and tax - Dealer says its about $895 in fees plus 1st pmt and cap reduction, but his fee figure seems to low to me.)
- $370/mo (this includes 6% NJ state tax)
- 39 months, 12k miles/yr
- no security dep
- residual of 57%, (or $19,568)
- money factor .00187 (about 4.49%)
- no disposition fee, but I believe their is a $150 charge added to the residual value if you decide to buy at end of lease (sort of raises residual value w/out lowering mo pmts - a little sneaky)
I can't match their monthly pmt exactly, I'm about $10-11 higher, but I'm not arguing.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I went to 3 dealers that day. SW Infiniti was the first and I originally did not intend to buy from them. They were the only dealership to offer to show me the actual invoice on the car and dealer options. In fact, the sales manager made a photocopy with their typed offer for me to take to the other dealers. The salesman was even professional enough to show me the actual cost on their dealer installed options and factored them into the purchase price at dealer cost.
West Houston Infiniti would not show me the invoice on any cars claiming that "they did not keep them on file in the dealership" and kept pressuring me VERY hard to lease the car when I had told them up front I was not interested. The floor salesman and I were on the same page about the options I wanted and the sales manager quoted me a price and was just about to start paperwork when the sales manager declared "Oh, that price isn't for the options you want though."
North Houston Infiniti did not seem to want to sell a car that day. They made a cursory attempt at an handwritten offer that was $1000 higher than the two other quotes I already had. They also told me their offer was good "today only." When I showed them the other offers they just sat there dumbfounded and then the sales manager stated "Well you can either leave with a new car today or we can keep being friends."
I guess we're still friends, but I promptly drove my butt back to SW Infiniti and bought the car from them.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. I would definitely recommend SW Infiniti based on the way I was treated by itself, not to mention their willingness to reach a fair deal.
One word of caution to those of you using Consumer Reports info...mine had bad info related to a $2K consumer rebate that did not actually exist. FYI
I was happy to drive home, wished I had a road trip in the near future!
Good luck everyone,
Watch your back nonetheless,
Val
Here are the details of the car:
Brilliant silver with graphite interior
Premium package C

The final price for the vehicle was $34,000, about $185 over invoice. The experience with the dealer was painless and very professional, from the phone correspondence until I walked out the door with my new baby. They made you feel right at home, negotiation was virtually effortless, and everything about the dealership breathed luxury. It was a rewarding experience to work with Lia Infiniti.
Another dealer that I dealt with was Millenium Infiniti in Manhasset, NY. I would not recommend this dealer, as the negotiation process felt like a high pressure timeshare pitch. Also, to secure the car I wanted, I had to deposit $1000. It has been a month already since I requested a refund, and they have yet to process it.
Great buying experience. Took advantage of the 2.9% financing for 5 years.
Thanks!
A couple hundred bucks over invoice on a G35? I wouldn't screw around, I'd take it tomorrow. I paid about $750 over invoice, but then I was asking them to find me a specific car from another dealer.
I hope you love it as much as I love mine. I keep spotting it in the parking lot and thinking, "Wow, that's my car?!?"
Good luck!
Also, does anyone have experience negotiating for a G35 in the Indianapolis area? Unfortunately, we only have 2 Infiniti dealerships in town, and they are both owned by the same dealer.
Thanks
Can anyone share their purcahse price for a g35 COUPE w/ premium package and upgraded wheels package? or what do you think is a reasonable buying price??
The whole experience was amazingly easy -- never had to talk to any dealers in person, and there was minimal haggling due to very competitive initial offers. I highly recommend Cerritos Infiniti -- they were very no-nonsense and great to deal with (including when I went to pick up my car). And in general, I recommend emailing dealers before negotiating in person -- if nothing else, you can get some good offers in writing before going into a dealership.
Anyone know what a good price should be in NY,CT area ?
KBB Invoice = $34,512
Willow Grove invoice = $34,300
Edison invoice = $33,324 (does not seem accurate, am i missing something or did they leave something out?)
Denville = $34,200
Edsion = $463
Willow Grove = $460
Denville = $424
Flemington = $465
Ardmore = $448 w/$3000 down
I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
I Live in DC/MD/VA area. I am looking at G35x with premium package, NAV and XM satellite.Now on Edmunds the Invoice price is $35806. MSRP is $39160. WHat is the right price to pay? I saw on the forum people paying either invoice or a couple of hundred above or below invoice.
I am relocating to Austin, TX in June. Is is advisable to buy the car here or in TX?
Thanks
Also, I saw a post that mentioned that the car they bought came with scheduled maintenance for 2 years. Is this standard practice? I assume it's only at the dealer where the person bought the car, right?

My 2002 BMW 325i lease expires in early October. I've researched my cars and found that I really like the G35 sedan. I've done tons of research on this car so I have a good idea about current money factor, residuals and that they're selling for about invoice (plus or minus $300). My BMW lease allows for 36,000 miles, but I'm only at 27,000 with 4 months to go. So, I figure I may be on the plus side of the equation because my payoff price is calculated assuming higher mileage.
I went to my local Southern California Infinity dealer once for a test drive and then again so they could look at my BMW to gauge trade-in value. I asked them to assume I had a high credit score (which I do), but didn't want them to run it in case I they couldn't give me a decent trade. (Don't want the "ding" on my credit report if I don't have to.) If they couldn't give me enough on the trade in, I'd just ride out my lease and come back in four months or so.
So, the salesman/internet manager/fleet manager confers with the GM and the used car manager and comes back and says, "You're not going to like these numbers because they don't think you're committed to doing this today." Well, no @#$&! I told the salesperson I was doing this on my lunch and had limited time. As a result of my "unwillingness" to make a deal that day, the first offer from them is $659 a freaking month for a 39 month lease with zero down. I about fell over.
After having some heated words with the salesperson in the middle of showroom, I walked out, with him tailing me the entire way. I told him his initial offer was insulting and was the wrong approach for fostering a committed customer. He went on and on about them needing the customer statement, that three more people needed to look at the BMW, etc, etc.
So my question is... am I out of line to be so heated about it? I mean, I HATE buying cars and this "tactic" just drives home the fact that it is a sleazy experience. Imagine if I did have all day, I would have started the negotiations at $659 a month! Secondly, it really bugged me that they needed my payoff amount on my BMW before the negotiations started. It's kinda like playing poker with your cards all facing up. You know that once they know what your payoff is, that it becomes a "negotiable" item. Should I be bothered about this? Any way to get around it, like telling them I owe about $xxxxx.xx, on the car, but refusing to give any further info.
Unless I want to do the song and dance, I'm thinking I'll just have to wait it out for 4 months until the BMW lease expires, which kinda blows. Or, should I give this dealer all my info and give them another shot at it? Anybody have any other negotiation hints for me?
Personally, I'd walk.
Never talk about your trade-in or existing lease until the final sale price and financing is already agreed upon. It's none of their business. The treatment you described belongs on cheap used car lots, not in an Infiniti (or any other luxury) dealership.
The G35 is a great car. I genuinely love mine (2005 G35x, brilliant silver, premium "C", NAV and XM). I hope those kind of tactics don't turn you off from Infiniti, because they make a terrific car at a great price.
I suggest you find another dealer and start over, perhaps by e-mail at first. If you have to drive or fly to pick it up, it'd be well worth it, and a lot of fun on the way home!

If you want a quote from these dealers through email, you can always just tell them you got a quote from a dealer and ask if they can beat it. Use a quote this forum on a similarly loaded car. Lastly, I think it also helps if its at the end of the month for their last quota push. Good luck on your car.
In fact, I did the Infiinity "request for quote" tonight on the car of my choice at the dealer closest to my house. Got a response back within a couple of hours... $260 below invoice. So, what is my next step? Do I approach this as two separate transactions, one a trade in and one a lease? I don't want to hardball them on lease numbers and then turn around and say, "Oh, by the way, I have this trade in we need to talk about." I want to be fair about, but I don't want the value of my old car to interfere with negotiating on the lease.
Maybe let them know up front that I have the trade in and will discuss it after the lease figures are finalized? Anybody been in this position before? How did you all handle it? Also, is if fair game to withhold my payoff info, or am I bound by "good faith" to reveal it?
Thanks again...
