I thank you very much for your thouthts in advance.
I looked at H/A world first and was sceptical. For example, they sell the skinny side molding strip, where Acura only has the wide (Go to Acura.com and build one to find all the real options)....They make money on inserting "The profit line". I've only bought a cargo net from them and it was Acura on the box and $30 vs factory $110. Buyer beware.
So, I wasn't sure I was gonna get a glass aftermarket peice or what, so I went factory on the spoiler.
I posted earlier about the spoiler vs deflector. The deflector is a nubbed 4" almost 65 degree angled extention. The Spoiler, extends the roof-line a good 6 1/2 inches and cuts back at about 90 degrees with some flare. Deflector, looks like a Pilot minivan. The Spoiler looks like speed.
Call your dealership, ask for parts, and tell him you found a gunuine Acura reseller on-line selling for $300 and your confused and loyal to the delership, (don't get a competetive tone). Ask for the parts manager, not a tech, act smart and loyal. I got it painted from Japan for $310 including tax and it was in was in stock. I live in Phoenix and I now have 3 competitve dealerships. If you have a drill, and small pilot bits you can do it. 3mm holes to start, the 8mm holes exactly to finish. I had it on in an hour.
I've been going through a lot of personal debate on the sidestep issue. Hmm..Bulky, extra weight, function? form? I'm not sure..a few more nights sleep. Not side steps..they are gonna change the contour of the body...it looks good lean and round matches the front end...I didn't buy a heavy duty off-roader here, why make it look like one...Okay, Satin if I ever get them..news at Eleven.
Nav - Well, I know my way around Arizona after 25 years. I've gone out of town several times since. I had my drivers license from 1977 and lived in 7 other states. Never had a big issue with getting lost. Mapquest is free and with highway renovations going on accross the country good luck with having up-to-day instruction on getting from point A to B
Hey, I was just wondering if anyone got a great deal in San Diego for a MDX/touring. I searched this forum and found a few in orange county/LA. Just wondering if anyone got the $1500 off invoice in San Diego. Any help would be appreciated.
I am looking to buy a new 2005 MDX (Touring with Nav) shortly. The dealer has quoted me an internet price of $40,550 (plus tax, title and Lic). Does a dealer price normally include tax, title and lic fees or not? The MSRP is $43,045 and the TMV is $39,376. Also what other add ons do I need to expect in the pricing when I go to purchase? I am planning to buy within the next 2 weeks.
I'm negotiating for MDX Touring w/ NAV & RES. Dealer wants $39180 from my first call (invoice + $500 vs. the invoice - $1500 I want), and I'm ready to start shopping my purchase to get close to the invoice-$1500 as I can.
The only other junk fee is a doc prep for $398. Are the invoice-$1500 prices people are getting here including that 'doc prep' fee or is that a normal fee to add on after the price?
These postings were very helpful and in a smaller market like Seattle/Portland, pretty valuable trying to pry a couple of bucks out of the dealers. So here goes.
I went to one of the Seattle dealers with my price (invoice/dest. ($38,800) less the $1,500 incentive and discounted pricing on sidesteps ($650) (the Pro Pac price was too small to dicker over)). No go. Was told the holdback -- which is pretty much what's left -- covers floor financing and advertising and cannot be negotiated as a profit item (even when I said I'd wait and take a car just off the truck so there'd be no floor financing), so he'd be taking a loss.
Went home a bit annoyed and stumbled across this site. Found numerous deals in SoCal, NoCal and Portland for basically the same price I was looking for. Copied some samples and pdf'd them to the Seattle dealer the next morning and also to 2 places in Portland. Got a call within 10 minutes from Acura of Portland. I drove there that afternoon and closed for around $38,500 (my price, plus a spoiler as a last minute add-on -- fortunately, I like the way it looks, since it wasn't part of the plan). No hassles at all doing the deal.
Definitely not as good as some of the large-market prices posted, but relative to what I was looking at in Seattle, a 180 mile drive probably saved me between $1,800 and $2,500 ($1,200 or so below the Seattle TMV, but I couldn't tell whether or not the TMV price included the same optional add-ons I'd gotten -- although you can't add options to the MDX Touring w/Nav on Edmunds, the price of the "extras" from the dealer can easily add $1,000 to $2,000). At a minimum, it allowed me to stop wasting time looking for a decent deal.
Thanks done2...your information is very helpful. I'm in the Portland area and am looking to purchase in the next month. I contacted Acura of Portland today and their price quote was $39775. for an MDX with Touring and NAV. Would you say your price was a common price..given the ease of that offer? I'm working with Acura of Portland online and figure there is probably some negotiating to do...but wanted to know if you'd share the websites that you found the prices you were looking for (specifically the Portland one). Thanks for your post/help.
I just purchased a new billet silver MDX with touring, navigation and rear entertainment system from Stevens Creek Acura in Santa Clara over the weekend. I got $2,000 below invoice plus dealer cost on the accessories. That came out to $39,539 for the car including accessories (satin-colored side rails, body side moulding, and the rear tailgate spoiler) -- probably $38,200 before the accessories. The purchase was smooth and enjoyable with great service all the way around. I would recommend them highly.
Visited 3 dealers in the Midwest and none would meet the $1500 under invoice that can be found in other areas of the county. Was told a scripted line by each..."if you can buy the MDX at $1500 under invoice, then buy it!...but we will not match that price". All are about $500 over invoice.....or about $2000 more. One dealer said that they will sell all of their 2005 MDX's and their price is a minimum of $500 over invoice. (This tells me that the Midwest buyers are not reading Edmonds.com)!! The dealers are checking the posts on Edmonds daily, and do not believe the posts for $1500 under invoice. Anyway, I walked into 3 dealers and they each had a chance to gain a customer. I will likely buy a MDX outside the Midwest and be proud to show off my "out of state" dealer license plate cover. I'll be traveling to the Detroit area next week and hope that they will be willing to at least have a discussion on pricing.
Please pass along any dealers that are selling below invoice in the Midwest.
Sorry, haven't checked recently. The destination price is already included in the invoice price. If you add it on top of invoice, you are paying too much. There was no other haggling we did. Just shopped via internet first from Santa Monica Acura, then got Power to price match.
No great deals in San Diego. I gave up in San Diego Dealers weren't willing to deal over the internet. I got the same old crap "I'll get you a great deal, name your price, blah blah blah... I drove to Los Angeles and bought from Power Acura in Torrance for $1600 below invoice. See my previous post

Inadvertently, subtracted $1500 from TMV and not invoice+destination resulting in Premium with no options at $32,500. Dealer met price with very little friction. Feel like a slechpt leaving money on the table, but actually feel good about getting a 2005 MDX for more than $7500 less than what it was selling for back in 2001. Back then, if you recall you couldn't get one of these vehicles unless it was completely decked out with NAV and everything else.
I see little utility in the Navigation system as my typical trip planning is done days ahead of time with google and mapquest. The entertainment package would have been nice but I don't see it being a $2500 add-on.
My offer from Nalley Acura in Atlanta on 05 MDX touring w/o navigation w/o dvd on 36 mo lease, 15k/yr, 15 cents/mi excess mileage is $419 down and 36 payments of $480/mo. First payment due along with the $419 at signing. This incl 3.75% tax or $18 tax/month so the car payment is $462 + $18 = $480/mo. Couldn't get other 4 internet dealers I dealt with down this low. I think this is a good deal - any opinions.
OK, so I took your advise and emailed some local dealers in San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties. All I can say is this is the best way to shop@! Right off the bat I got an awesome deal for a MDX Touring at Power Acura of South Bay. I was quoted $33,995 (destination included). Invoice with destination is $36,355. That is $2,360 below invoice without even trying!!!! No dealer in San Diego would even make us a counter offer! So we decided to drive to Torrance (1.5 hour).
We totally expected something to go wrong, but everything was straightforward. No pressure to buy any extras or anything. I would highly recommend this process and dealer to anyone. Absolutely no problems!!! Thanks for everyone's help!
Excellent price - carsdirect has the Touring at $34999! I assume the salesman you referenced at the other MDX webboard was pleasant to deal with. Speaking of which, did you email Power Acura directly or go via a mass referral site i.e. Edmunds Locate A Dealer system? Thanks!
That sounds like a great deal. Note, I don't understand why he destination charge being to the Invoice price because to my understanding, at least in CA, destination charge is already included in the invoice price. So according to my calculations, you're looking at $1790 below invoice, which is a great deal.
I would recommend that you do *not* finance through the dealer.
Note to prospective buyers. I wish that I sort of waited.
Not to offend anyone, I'm predicting SUV prices will start to drop big time. Why? Gas prices. I don't know what everyone else is paying for gas prices these days, but at $3/gallon here in SD for quality 91 fuel (IE not costco fuel), that's close to $60/ fill up. I don't know about the rest of you, but that's a lot for a something that gets 17/23 mpg estimated.
So my prediction is that if you don't mind waiting, wait until SUV's sales starts to take a further hit. The only SUV's that I think will actually increase in price are the hybrids like the ford escape H, toyota highlander H, lexus RX H. Personally, I don't want to pay the premium for these hybrids, not to mention that I don't want to worry about if I get trapped in a hybrid due to an accident, that rescue workers can't figure out how to cut through vehicle with all the high voltage power lines that runs up and down the hybrids. But that's purely just my 2 cents. Actually, quite frankly I hate most SUV and most SUV drivers, since for some reason I always seem to find someone driving a Expedition or Suburban who parks in a Compact spot, thinking the vehicle is a compact, go figure.
But anyway, with current gas prices, I don't think these things are selling too well. When I visited Power Acura, they had an entire fleet of MDX's that was just sitting there.
The salesperson was extremely pleasant to work with. No pressure to buy any extras like LoJack or extended warranty. We did the locate a dealer thing through this web site. He emailed me within 24 hours with the quote of $33,995. I emailed back to see if destination was included and it was. Some dealers do not include destination in their quotes...So we checked around and no one would even match the price or even make us an offer. Everything went smoothly. Spent about 2 hours at the dealership going over the car and doing the paperwork. Financing was 60 months at 5.6%. This is about the same rate as our credit union. Hope this helps. Colors and options are getting more difficult to find as we move to the end of the year....I think the $1500 marketing support ends in early September. Good luck!
I've seen this before but forgot: we'll probably be paying in full therefore do most Acura dealers accept a "regular" check or does it have to be cashier's check? And if the latter, won't I have to get the exact amount from the dealer first PRIOR to going to get the check? [Last time I bought a car, it was through a broker so I have little experience with the details!]
Hi mdxnw Not sure if the price was common, but I would assume it was not unusual given that Acura Portland snapped it up and Tonkin responded with a price only $700-$800 higher. As to obtaining quotes, I used this site and went back 30 days (to July 1) to collect representative purchase price data. Not sure how you positioned your initial communication, but I didn't ask for a quote, I gave them a price I would take and supported it with quotes from other postings. Acura Portland responded within an hour to accept (if I would buy more or less immediately). If you really want to do the MDX thing, you should keep in mind that the $1,500 is supposedly over as of the end of August.
When we bought our vehicle from power acura, we paid in full cash with a personal check, so dont worry about that. In fact, they run your credit check prior to accepting a personal check, so you should be ok.
In fact, if you are a responsible credit card user, ask if the dealership takes credit cards. Power acura allows you to put up to $5000 on your credit card and the remaining on a personal check. So what we did, was that we put $5000 on my credit card and then remaining balence we wrote a personal check. We even asked them to hold the check for a week, because we had problems moving the money from on account to another. The reason why we put this on the credit card is because my credit card rebates me 2% on all purchases after a certain amount. Since I've been expensing everything on CC this year, I received a $100 rebate from this purchase for $5000.

I was given the option to use a regular check or cashiers check. Even put some on my credit card to get miles! I decided to use a cashiers check to avoid any potential problems. They are free through my credit union. You could probably get a cashiers check for the bulk amount and pay the balance with a credit card or personal check. Best to ask the dealer which they prefer.
Hi, can someone point me to good deals in Atlanta - here's what i have found out till now .. MDX'05 -Touring with Ent, no nav for $37,446. 1616 down, 36 mo/12k -> 518+tax /mo
MDX'05 - Touring with Nav, no ent for $38,371 Has anyone got a good price for Touring + Nav+ Ent
Does anyone know when is 06 model coming and any big changes coming with it? thx
It seems the prices are not as good here in ATL as in some other parts of the US that I am reading about on this board. The quotes I'm getting for MDX Touring no NAV/ no DVD are $36,300 - $36,500. I have read of others paying 34000 to 34700, but got no response at all from one dealer here when I offered to buy one at that price tomorrow. The 06 will not change much - changes coming in 07. What's the best deal anyone has gotten in Atl area for MDX Touring or other? Was hoping the price would get better as we get close to Labor Day weekend. thanks
I was quoted a price for Touring no DVD no NAV for $35700 from Nalley in Atlanta. Dealer here in B'ham matched the price. It can certainly be done if they have the inventory they need to move.

Has anyone had any luck getting a price below invoice in the DFW area? David McDavid in Plano quoted $2250 off of the sticker for a Touring (no Nav, no DVD). Not even close to what some people say they are paying on the east & west coasts...
Hi, I think you really nailed this one - I have not seen anything better than this so far. How did you go about it. What was the inventory situation with the dealer. It seems not all dealers have a whole lot of MDX with Nav and RES and with color preferences.. What all is included in the service contract? thanks
See the description below for best deals on certain cars:
Consumer Reports New & Used Car Price Services regularly monitor and report on car prices in the U.S. Certain vehicles are identified as offering particularly attractive savings opportunities at certain times, based on supply and demand in the automotive market.

In the chart above, we list some of the models in our price analysis that both carry substantial discounts and have been recommended by Consumer Reports based on performance and at least average reliability. The Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP, or "sticker price") is listed, along with the Consumer Reports Wholesale Price, which provides consumers with a close approximation of the actual dealer cost. The CR Wholesale Price incorporates the familiar dealer invoice with the behind-the-scenes financial incentives that manufacturers give dealers to increase sales of particular models.
Has anyone purchased an MDX touring for only $33,663?
rock10, can you share the dealer at which you got this price? I am in VA and would like to leverage your experience. Was the dealer receptive to your offer or did you have to haggle a bit?
I bought an MDX Touring from Tempe Acura with no extras for $35,750, before TTL but I did a trade-in, so that must be kept in mind. I was negotiating with four dealers and feel that is within a few hundred dollars of the optimal price based on being told to take a hike by other dealers when I went below this level. It came out to about $649 below invoice, which means you should be able to get at least $850 below invoice elsewhere due to a city-wide marketing fee in Phoenix.
The salespeople at Tempe Acura were very professional and I recommend them. I started with the internet sales staff and they kept their word on the deal we cut negotiating by e-mail and phone. Absolutely excellent service in getting us processed and out the door on a very busy weekend day.
For Phoenix area, one important thing to know is that the Acura dealers in this city apply a $200 extra to their invoice to cover a city-wide "marketing fee". Regardless of whether this is fair or not (or legal, reeks of collusion), it is applied by all three dealers. You can avoid the marketing fee by buying in Tucson. Note that the tax there is lower there too. Tax in Phoenix is 8.1% versus 7.5% in Tucson. The lowest quote I got from Tucson was $35,450, so that $300 coupled with $200 savings on tax meant that I would save $500 by driving to Tucson. However, their ballpark estimate on my trade-in was $1,200 less. That killed the deal. I might have considered the drive for $500 had it not been for the poor trade-in estimate.
Invoice: $36,399 Cars Direct Price: $37,399 Actual Price: $35,750 with destination and $200 Phoenix marketing fee before TTL Net Result: $649 below invoice in Phoenix or the $849 below the invoice price where the BS marketing fee does not apply
Lastly, you should know is that sales tax, at least in my neck of the woods, is reduced by the amount of trade-in. Here is my final tally.
Negotiated Price: $35,750 Less Trade-In: ($4,000) Taxable Amount: $31,750 Tax at 8.1% $2572 TTL $958 Out-the-door $35,280 with trade-in
Hi, based on what I have seen on this board so far - this does not look like a good deal. Dealer is basically throwing in 1000-1200 worth of accessories and selling you a demo car with 7000 miles on it.

Thanks
Rajeev
Invoice: $36,399
Cars Direct Price: $37,399
Actual Price: $35,750 with destination and $200 Phoenix marketing fee before TTL
Net Result: $649 below invoice in Phoenix or the $849 below the invoice price where the BS marketing fee does not apply
Lastly, you should know is that sales tax, at least in my neck of the woods, is reduced by the amount of trade-in. Here is my final tally.
Negotiated Price: $35,750
Less Trade-In: ($4,000)
Taxable Amount: $31,750
Tax at 8.1% $2572
TTL $958
Out-the-door $35,280 with trade-in
