Well worth the 8 week wait!!!
Wow 8 year warranty? Ugh I always get screwed.I got the 7 year warranty for a bit more.blah
  • litobirdylitobirdy Member Posts: 29
Now I'm regretting that extra for the extended warranty especially with the prices i see of 8 year and stuff online for like 800/900/1000.I just bought my car yesterday with the extended into the monthly payment. Is it too late to cancel? Or am I stuck? Any way to lower the price and roll it into the monthly?

The only thing I noticed about the blue SUV--(Maybe because this is my first SUV and darkest color car I have had) you can see the dirt a lot more and it gets dirtier quicker.

@litobirdy - they based it on my annual mileage and how long we keep cars...  I drive about 10k-12k annually, and traded in a 2006 CRV.   Not sure if that's part of the equation?  It was $3 more monthly for 8yrs/100k vs 7yrs/80k.  So, we did the 8yrs/100k mi.  Maybe call and ask about upgrading to the 8yr/100k?  Have nothing to lose in trying!

@hubcaps - this is the darkest car I have ever owned too!  I debated on blue vs gray, but I've never owned anything but gray/silver/white.  So, blue won!

Mine was $22 more a month but I'd really like ti know if it can be cancelled? This is a new purchase with the warranty added on. Or will they say no final blah blah, can't take that back. Or too late to negotiate lower warranty price

I am looking to buy a 2015 CRV-EX AWD and have asked several dealers for best price and the lowest I received was $25,000 (including destination, but not TT&L). Is this a reasonable price or should I be able to get a better price. I am in MN but would be willing to travel to pick up the car if someone has a dealer recommendation that offers great deals.
  • crv_2015crv_2015 Member Posts: 26
@litobirdy - the warranty for 7yrs/80k mi was $23 added to 60 months.  The additional year/20k mi to 8yrs/100k was $3 more, or $26 per month, again over 60 months.

Not sure if that came across on my last post.

Um I'm looking over my extended warranty pink copy that says repair master on the bottom and i see the section that says deductible,$100 is checked off. But the finance guy repeatedly said no charge for anything that would need to be fixed under this 7 year extended warranty.did I just get screwed? Not paying 1370 plus $100 for every time they would have to fix a manufacturer problem.

@litobirdy - my application copy for Honda Care is yellow.  No pink sheet (it says white is dealer copy, pink is lien holder, yellow is customer) - following pages are the plan "example" on blue sheets...  I'll get the Honda Care coverage plan in full in the mail within 30 days.  Hmmm.

@crv_2015I have no Honda care paper, mine says repair master. Seems like I got a 3rd party extended warranty.this is ridiculous. So seems like 3rd party and $100 deductible

I'd try to cancel it. If need be, ask your local consumer protection agency or the AGs office for help. Sometimes there's a 30 days cancellation period (have to read the fine print). If you haven't done the Honda survey, you can hold that over the dealer's head, and mention that you are familiar with the review sites, like ours, dealerrater.com, Google, Yelp, etc.

Hopefully you won't have to do all that and they'll just cancel it with a simple request.

Here is the Honda Care info: http://www.honda-extended-warranty.com

I would call the dealer back and request the Honda Care warranty.  If they won't cooperate, I'd do exactly what Stever suggested.

anyone know what that tiny blue light is for between the 2 above map lights? by the sunroof button?
  • hubcapshubcaps Member Posts: 23
I think the blue light goes on at night only and that tells you that the rear mirror is adjusted for night vision or less glare from lights behind you from other cars.

    Could be wrong...
  • crv_2015crv_2015 Member Posts: 26
My husband's Pilot has the little blue light -- I think it's meant to be a soft light to illuminate the accessories tray. It only works with the headlights in the on-position. (I had my headlights on in the rain yesterday and the blue light was on). This morning, no headlights on, and it was off. It just gives you a little light.

@crv_2015 @stever so Finance manager calls me this morning. "i never said no deductible, I never said free" blah blah like yea right man. So he said ok i cancel and your 72 month term will just drop by the different so like 68/69 months. I said what no, give me the different montly the $22 less a month difference. So apparently he got the ok for that and told me to come in at lunch time today to process it. Kinda sux though cause I wanted the no deductibel Honda care warranty but he said its much higher than their extended warranty. Stupid. Bob from Hyannis Honda spoke to me this morning. Nice guy, seems pretty honest. Told me his rates were the right numbers. 8 years/ $940. I have until 6000 miles to buy around that number. Or wait til i'm close to 3 years/36k and Buy the 5 year/100k for about $1120 or so. Only problem is that is paying outright. If that's the case then I might as well wait for til I'm close to the 3 years. I know my local honda dealer will not pricematch or be close to those numbers. I think for $1200 into the Loan I would settle and only if its Honda Care and no deductible. But blah, looks like I"m going ot have to settle with buying it in full 3 years from now.

so my crv touring wont be in until mid april.. has anyone ever go the route of asking bout a complimentary "loaner" car from the lot instead of paying for a rental? please let me know! also, has anyone bought any after market products such as accessories and had them installed? is considered a slap in the face to the dealer as you didnt buy them initially? i have noticed they are signifigantly cheaper at websites like college hills honda and definitely want them.. but wanted to hear everyone's opinion first. thanks!
I "bought" my car, 2015 EX onFebruary 25th. I wanted the copper sunset so they found me one at a dealer 2 hours away. They said when it comes in they will call me. They gave me a loaner car (2014 CRT lx) to drive while I wait. It has been 3 weeks due to a union issue at the train yard. I am still driving my free loaner.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I think I'd wait to the 3/36 mark. Not much (any?) advantage to buying early other than the ability to roll the amount into a car payment. You may decide to trade cars or something before then, or decide the CR-V is so reliable, you'll just take your chances.

@steverThe finance guy was telling me.oh ours is betterbecause it includes oil changes.(which I find odd since he completely didn't mention that when I bought it Saturday).if u want thru Honda care for 8 years then i can do 1480 but not the same 1370 thru us for 7 years.financed no biggy but I was already out of the mood with the whole not telling me about the$100 deduct. But it was painless to make the change. So I'm ok.

Guys, any idea the best deal I can get to buy/install the Back up Sensor w/attachment for this car? I just called my local honda dealer $710 plus tax
  • crv_2015crv_2015 Member Posts: 26
@litobirdy - Hyannis Honda (I'm assuming the one in MA?) was great to work with, too, but they couldn't get their hands on a Touring at the time we bought.  If you need another Honda Care opinion/option, try Sandra in Finance at Weymouth Honda.  She was great to deal with and talked through all the options with us!   Or, wait it out until you're closer to warranty-end.  You really won't lose anything either way -- if something happens to the car/totaled, you get credit back, if you sell, it transfers to new owner, etc.  I asked that question, just in case.
  • realdeallrealdeall Member Posts: 22
@lizajayne thanks! i asked my dealership but they said they dont do loaners, which sucks because i will probably have to drive a yaris for another week haha.

also- can anybody answer or give insight to doing aftermarket accessories?

Seems like there is a shortage here in the Tampa area on the AWD Touring CR-V. Not a one to be found at Wesley Chapel Honda, Tampa Honda, nor Brandon Honda. Brandon told me there is currently one in the entire state down in Miami. What's a good price people have been finding elsewhere? Wesley Chapel is my local dealer and I'd prefer to buy there since they give a free lifetime powertrain warranty, but I'm willing to go get one somewhere else for a good deal.

Hey guys, first time buyer here living in the Chandler, Arizona area.

I'm looking in purchasing a 2015 Honda CRV EX FWD with the optional running boards. I've read through most all of the posts here and really appreciate all of your insight and guidance to us non-experienced buyers.

I was wanting to know if anyone had any luck with dealers here in the area? I plan on sending out e-mails to my local 15-20 dealers as recommended to try and find the best deal but I wanted to see if any of you all had any luck with local dealers.

Just a few quick questions first:

    - I've heard the end of the month is better for deals. Is this the same for March 2015? If so, how close to the end of the month should I be aiming for? Someone earlier said not before the 28th but I just wanted to confirm. I also wanted to know if it's easier to buy a 2015 at this time with the 2016 coming out next month.
    - I'm a Costco member. I've heard mixed things on the discount the company provides. Some say they're getting the same price they would if they e-mailed dealers and went through that process, whereas others are saying they're getting a poor price. Has anyone had a recent good experience with them?
    - As for pricing, I've seen $26,000-$27,000ish OTD for the model I'm looking at which is what I want to aim for. Is that realistic? Edmunds' TMV is saying $24,545 base price, so if I'm correct, I should be aiming to get as close to that number as possible? I believe this includes the $800 Destination Fee, however, it does not include tax, etc. or the $600 running boards that a salesman at the Honda dealership I visited quoted me at.

Thank you so much for your time! I look forward to learning more from the responses and (hopefully) purchasing my first car!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Welcome - yes, the end of every month is supposedly the "best" time to buy. Are the 2016s already arriving? Yikes, time is just screaming by. "Year end" for the current model year typically makes for even better prices.

I've heard the same thing about the Costco program. Part of the attraction for it (and our Price Promise and other programs) is that it usually cuts to the chase and saves a lot time at the dealer. Even when you don't get the absolute best price, the time and hassle saved is worth it to a lot of people.

And yes, TMV includes destination but none of the taxes and fees. TMV is your target but educated consumers can often beat it.

I'm so annoyed with myself. I just realized I could have put more money down for my EX I bought last Saturday. If that was the case, I would have gone for the EX-L . I called anyway to see what could be done. Guy said if I would have gone back Monday, it would have bee possible but Monday night the contract went out and Honda paid the loan already tuesday or wednesday. DAMMITTT. Somebody needs to tell me it's ok. I'm not missing much as far as learther with leather steerting wheel, and 328watt w/ 7 speakers incl. Subw.., and dual climate zone and the other stuff is ok to miss out on. blah
  • xirisxiris Member Posts: 21
litobirdy - Unless I can find a dealer willing to sell the EX-L OTD at $27,000ish, I'm fine with the EX. The EX-L didn't offer much more than the EX other than the leather seats and dual climate zone which I can live without.

And thank you stever! I'll keep you updated and post any more questions I might have. Thanks!
  • xirisxiris Member Posts: 21
Just a quick question I just thought of:

How should I approach these dealers? Do I make them offer first and then tell them the Edmund TMV? Or offer first? Also, how close to the end of the month should I start e-mailing? Thanks!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

It's usually better to let the dealer make the first offer.

@brian125 recommends that you wait until the last 3 or 4 days before the end of the month to email, and emphasize that you intend to buy "immediately" from the dealer that gives you the best price. Click on his name and skim as many of his posts as you have time for. He has "the system" down.

Hey an Accord and a CRV. Nice job. If you are buying both this month use both sales as your leverage.

Your target price is 1300 to 1800 below invoice on a Crv. Your using a large area in TX. which will help you.

Advice........email / call dealerships on 2nd to last / last day for the 1800 number. Doc fee's are only 125/150.

I had a email from someone that bought a 15, EX Crv .. at First Texas Honda for 1500 below invoice last month.
Email these dealers if there in your targeted area. They have large inventory on CRV/ Accords.

First Texas, Gilman, Gunn, and Rusty Wallis Honda. Lute riley, AutoNation and David Mcdavid.

    good luck

@brian125 Hi Brian! Any advice on what I should be aiming at for a 2015 Honda CRV EX 2WD in the Chandler, Arizona area? And when I should start sending out e-mails? If not, have you seen any other OTD estimates from others who have bought similar in the same area? Thank you a million times!

I can only go by other buyers in your area and what they told me. Use my price guide as a reference

In Jan, 2015 There were prices from 800 below dealers invoice to 1000 below. That's all I could comment on price wise. deals were not as good as you see in other states. on the CRV model.

What I will tell you is take your models dealer hold-back which is 2% of the base msrp = 23,987 ( $480 ) then add dealers doc fee charge onto that number. Usually $449 to 599. Both Total.. ( $1087). that number is your low target price this month. Make sure you ask all your targeted Honda dealers there doc fee charge ? It effects your asking price.

If you target 1500 below dealers invoice on your model and get it after paying a $500 doc fee puts you at 1000 below dealers invoice.

I would try for 1800 below dealers invoice on your model telling dealership I buy today for this price. Remember your state has a high doc fee so buying at 1800 below really means 1200 below.

Here is a price example for you.

    ..................................................23,987..................invoice price EX model

    ....................................................+880...................destination charge
    ....................................................................

    total...........................................24,867..................invoice w/ dest /charge included.

minus your offer to buy.............- 1800.......................below invoice

................................................ $23,067... your offer to buy. excludes taxes, tags, dmv and doc fee's ( @$599 )

If you could make this deal at my figures it puts you at $1201 below dealers invoice price. You could always raise your targeted offer price.............. That's up to you. Worst case dealer will tell you I cant make that deal.

Limited dealership will effect your pricing. Round up as many dealerships as far as your willing to travel to. Make your best deal at the very end of this month. Use the internet / emails to dealerships int. mgrs. for best results.

If you are asking dealerships for add on's like running boards etc , tell each dealer you want accessories at there invoice price or its a deal breaker. . You will have to pay dealer for installation costs.

Check out these sites they are close to invoice prices as we know on Honda accessories. make dealers match these prices or consider buying here.

@brian125 Brian (and @stever ), you don't understand how much your responses have helped me. I appreciate them and have them all saved on a document as I prepare for the end of the month.

As of now my plan is to start mass e-mailing every Honda dealership within a 60-mile radius around 3 days before the end of the month. I've already started looking up each dealership and finding the e-mail address for their internet sales manager. Since this is my first race around the track, I thought 2days and the last day of the month would be too risky. My "I will buy today" price (incl. dest. charge) will be the suggested $23,608(ish) price, excluding the invoice price of the running boards, with the hopes of getting OTD at around $26,000. This leaves around $2,400 for taxes, fees, AZ doc fee and the running boards. My high price would be $23,800ish before taxes. Is this realistic, especially considering the limited dealership in my area? $26k OTD is what I'm crossing all my fingers for.

Someone mentioned luck with contacting the other managers in the internet sales department as opposed to just one so I will try that as well. Also, stever mentioned I should let them offer first...however, you're saying I should begin the conversation with my "buy today" price. Please advise as to which is most effective.

I apologize for all the questions. Thank you endlessly!

    Short story for the members.

I sent my friend into the Subaru dealers last month on Feb. 20, to buy a 2015 Forrester to prove my point to him on pricing and how these dealers work . Five dealerships in 2 days. Not one of those dealers were going 1000 below dealers invoice. My friend tried with I will buy it today.. Swing and a miss all 5. Two dealers were at invoice price . one at 300 below , the other at 350 below.

Guess what happened on Feb. 28th. when I called each dealerships internet manager.

Two of those dealers were ready to sell at 1k below invoice , One dealer said they would match, the other 2 were 200/300 off the 1k below mark. . This is why I preach do not waste your time till months end.

At worst case walk in and out of dealerships starting on the 2nd to last day of the month. You will make a better deal using this same approach.

sorry to be thick...looking for a 2015 CRV/LX AWD with no other options. The Edmunds prices show MSRP 25,575, Factory Invoice of 24,072. I got an internet price from a dealer of 23,305 including destination, and another dealer matched that price quickly. What is a reasonable target price (and does that include destination or not) ?

    CRV lx awd invoice = $23,191 plus dest/ charge 880= 24,071 Edmunds price. / Nada .com is...$ 23,192.

$300 to 700 more should be your target price to buy. NJ is a tough market pricewise with Accords and Crv's.

Use this months ending 1st quarter to your advantage. Call more dealerships and offer 500 less than above deal for a immediate sale. hold out till the very end of the month..... you will get your price.

Your above deal is 766 below dealers invoice price. now subtract the dealers 299 or 399 doc fee and that is your true number.

Contact these NJ dealerships in addition to yours on the last 2 days, last day of this month. Your looking for dealerships that still need there monthly / ending 1st quarter sales quota's. This is the month you could pull off a very, very good deal in NJ................... that's otherwise ho-hum pricewise.

Auto-Sport, Dch Paramus, Dch kay, GardenState , Joyce, Madison. * outside shot ( Paul Miller and Hamilton )

NY call....................... Friendly and New Rochelle Honda

    Good luck
