Sounds like plenty for a city your size...until you look at the size of the entire Phoenix metro area. I dunno - invoice doesn't mean what it used to but even so, the value is there.

You and @xiris have a couple of days to get 'er done. :) Good luck!

@stever - Since it seems like it might be harder to get them to budge below invoice, should I start sending out my e-mails to the dealers tonight or wait until tomorrow? I'm armed and prepared and ready to go but I wanted to wait until as late as possible to start. However, I'm thinking about sending them today and wanted to know what you would do.

Sent out my e-mails. So far I've heard back from Arrowhead.

Ridiculous. Despite my very specific e-mail, it seems they disregarded it completely. This is what they said:

    2015 Honda CR-V EX 2wd

    Your Internet Price $25,625.00
Full Size Running Boards $759.00 (installed)
    License & Reg Fee $451.91
    Doc Fee $409.00
    Sales Tax $2,137.10
    Out The Door $29,382.01

This price includes window tint, splash guards & destination.

Did they even look at my e-mail? I said the ONLY accessories I wanted was the running boards and no additional accessories. Plus their special "Internet price" is over MSRP.

How would you respond to this e-mail @brian125 and @stever? I was thinking of just saying a very nice "You will only get my business for x and x and x. My offer stands until the end of the month." and then leave my contact information. Sound okay?

Negotiate with dealers who listen to what your writing and want to earn your business. Why would you respond to that email. I would not. At some point you need to call the Internet managers or his/ her staff and negotiate a final price with the dealerships that want to earn your business. Tomorrow resend the same email to that dealership ( Arrowhead ). But before you do that call ahead and ask the receptionist / phone person for the int/ mgr. email and direct phone number. Then send it directly to him again.

This is why I like to pick up the phone and talk to each dealerships internet manager. One on one just like if I was standing in that store telling mgr. I buy this minute and will hold with a credit card deposit. I'm not shopping any prices around meet my price or Counter my offer............. that's how this game works. Your offering them the sale. Is that mgr going to step up to the plate and take a swing at trying to earn your business or is he/ she not ready for prime time.

Example phone call is the same as your email. You do not hang up until mgr tells you Yes or No for the sale that moment. Oh you cant do X price then how close will your dealership come to my offer. Then once you get that dealerships bottom line tell mgr. I will consider it if I cant get my xxx offer today. leave your number just in case they change there mind.

If I'm buying a car and I have 10 targeted dealerships I call dealer number 1 int/ mgr. I only want to speak to that person . Not there.... ok tell mgr. I want to buy a CRV, exl right now have him / her call me back asap. Sounds like I know what I'm doing and ready to buy. Think they will call me back...... you bet. Onto dealer #2

when Int/ mgr. calls back .

Hi mike ( int/ mgr. ) I want a Crv exl with only one added accessory running boards I will buy said vehicle today for x price and running boards at invoice price . I'm willing to pay your dealerships installation costs. I will leave you a deposit with my credit card if we could agree right NOW. negotiate and get this dealer to commit to a price then move on if it does not work out pricewise. You should have a idea of a high and low target price in your area.

Go down the line in the same fashion. with each dealership. the dealers that sell cars and don't play games will make a bid to earn your business. remember there is a immediate sale pending.

If you email 14 dealerships .... 2 wont reply, 1 may send out a different email, 2 may say come in, 2 may play pricing games..

The rest that send prices or answer you are the dealers you work with for the immediate sale. You could always walk into the dealerships if all else fails. Some dealerships have bad internet dept. like Arrowhead. But a lot are good and know what time it is.

Negotiate from the comfort of your own home. By spanning a larger area from your house will help you make the best possible deal . Monday and Tuesday are the 2 best days for internet/ phone buying.

Use the ending 1st sales quarter to your advantage. Get as many dealerships involved in the price wars as far as your willing to travel. Pitting one dealer against the next for your business.

UPDATE:Arrowhead wasn't willing to go lower than their OTD price (29k) and Tempe told average_joe_az that they couldn't do 26k, but would match any dealer's price that he brought to them.

Still haven't heard back from the other dealers. I figure they're all out on the floor considering it's a Saturday. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow morning at lunchtime, I'll resend and then call. Sunday and Monday are my go-days since Tuesday I am already preoccupied.

Thanks for the continued help, gents!

Any recent prices paid on EX AWD, amount below invoice? Looking in Denver area & hoping for $700 below? Plus D&H? Or can I do better ?
Note: Most dealers here have a lot of inventory in stock on CRV's.

I'm itching for Monday, guys. Ready to get a good deal (and get my water heater fixed up LOL - cold showers are something something).

On the topic of the CRV's vibration issues, should I include in my email blasts a line that says something like "I will do a thorough test drive of the specific CRV I'll be buying. I will not accept one with vibration issues."

I know you are in AZ but any dealerships open on Sundays in NJ or around?
I know Honda of Staten island is open on Sunday but not sure how great they are

I'd probably save the vibration discussion for the test drive and focus on the numbers (unless you run into one that shakes). Just another complication. I haven't sold retail for decades but when someone responds to my craigslist ad and then starts dissing my car, I get my hackles up and start thinking about the next buyer.

On the other hand, my water heater recently went out to the tune of $1200, so I'd probably try to bring that up in the money conversation. :)

It looks like Honda sales are modestly down, compared to March of 2014, by 3.4%. But that's for the whole lineup - compact SUVs like the CR-V are still hot. Maybe name drop the Escape you, ahem, are cross-shopping as you talk numbers with the dealer.

    @nvedia

SI Honda is not the greatest dealer. Trust me. I leave close to that dealership and asked them to match or beat a price on 100 Honda's over the years.... they baulked at every one.

Finally the manager gave into me when I bought my 2013 EXL V-6 model FEb,28th of that year.

If you cant agree on a price via emails or phone calls DO NOT Make a special trip to this dealership. Not worth your time.

@stever @brian125 Has the invoice price changed for the EX...? I've had two dealers tell me that the invoice price on the 2015 CR-V EX 2WD is $25,108.00 and not the $23,988 that Edmunds and Nada are saying. Bell Honda is saying that $25,108.00 is the invoice price "in the valley."

I'm unaware of a price increase. My numbers on the Crv ex, fwd model = 23,987 @Nada or 23,988 @Edmunds, @kbb.com, and @TrueCar all reflect the same price.

For the dealers that had a problem with how I came up with my invoice price, I sent them all screenshots of the invoice price on each site. All of them said 1,800 is too low below invoice to go, however, three are getting back to me on how far they could go.

Supply and demand are killing me!

Wow, a 40,000 CRV! Never thought I would see that happen.

Are those accessories you actually WANT or all they already installed on the CRV?

Most of those accessories are pretty worthless so I'm thinking they might have tarted up that CRV to show off
the accessories. The store I worked at did that a few times and those cars usually were very difficult to sell.

" Ultimate Corrosion Package" for 2000.00 ??? Give me a break!

  • realdeallrealdeall Member Posts: 22
@isellhondas i dont necessarily want all those accessories, but i think i would go 37 for it just because it'd be way under. i also am going to try to get back up sensors added. hopefully the end of march will work its wonders.

i feel i have the upper hand in the situation as i have another dealership that is giving their touring away at 35 flat otd with remote start and back up sensors.

I'm guessing they tarted that CRV up to showcase all of those accessories most of which are, in my opinion, useless. Yeah, go ahead and make a low offer. They may be so tired of looking at that loaded up CRV, they just might be willing to take a loss.

Just tell them that you see zero value in most of those accessories some of which I've never even heard of.

@realdeall..... if you are looking to buy this model with accessories I will give you a good target price with the right price breakdown.

Your numbers are way off.... you have no clue what price to ask for on this vehicle. How did you come up with your price???

If you cant steal this vehicle it is not worth it. what city is this deal in ?

Not able to get anything below $30400 in NJ
Looks like all the dealers are having a good sale and they are not willing to go down
I followed Brian's approach and emailed around 8 dealers with my offer price of $29500
Got reply from 4 that they cant honor this price and did not give me their best price on phone but insisted I come to visit
I went to visit and the best price was $30500
Looks like in NJ, dealers don't worry much about these sales

Thanks, @brian125. I appreciate it. FYI, folks in Texas, the best firm offer I've gotten for an in-stock CRV EXL FWD is $26,500 (incl. destination) + TTL. I don't think that's fantastic... I'm going to hold out until tomorrow.

Just closed a deal down at Right Honda. First time buyer here but with lots of negotiating with the 8 dealers in the valley, I'm very happy at where I got at! The vehicle will arrive next week and it will be right off the flatbed, brand new.

    2015 CR-V EX 2WD
    $24,088 - Purchase Price
    $24,656 - Including destination
$568 - Running boards including installation
    $1,960 - Sales Tax
    $449 - Doc Fee
    $429 - Plates for 1 Year
    $27,494.00 - OTD

This is the lowest offer I was getting. The next best offer was for $28,500. The rest refused to sell at invoice or under. The dealer was extremely nice and we were in and out of his office in 45 minutes tops.

Thank you a million times to @brian125 and @stever for showing me the power of having knowledge and research by your side. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Any other SoCal deals? I have an email into Hardin and Weir Canyon Honda. Thinking of using Costco as a starting point but these cars are pretty popular around here. Looking for EXL - Navi.
    hp81 said:

I got the ex-l 2wd last week in SoCal for $26200 before TTL. TTL added on about another $2500. As far as the vibration issues, I don't really feel any vibration, but my car before was a 2003 crv with 230,000, so I may be used to feeling vibration. If there is any, it's only slightly and not any violent vibration as others have said. I'm only averaging about 25mpg between city and freeway driving, but I drive pretty fast and there are a ton of lights where I live.

I have seen a trend that in NC , its very easy to get a great deal + taxes are low
In NJ, all dealers are having heavy sale so they dont give in to you + highest taxes...kills me!

lol, good value for the dealer's bottom line they mean. Sheesh. If they need more profit, fine, we all like more money. Just admit it and skip the line item junk.

Sometimes walking out and regrouping is the best plan (that's my modus operandi, which is why it's been 15 years since I bit on a new car :D ). There's another truckload of new cars arriving at the dealers this afternoon. And tomorrow.

Please take a few minutes and write up a dealer review or two - at least one for the "green caps special". Thanks!
