As to buy / lease, certainly the payments are lower [10-20%] and by 3 or 4 years I always want a new car,,,, I think it may work better for the lease, except I’m told Honda does not lease to businesses,,, which sounds like a line from a salesman wanting a simple sale[?] aw heck, I guess I’m staying home and doing laundry today.
I stopped in at Toyota and nothing they had interested me, of course the salesman was quick to insult the pilot and slow to provide any service,, maybe I should just get it and be done with it.
Using Edmunds dealer quote email service, I received 5 responses immediately. The top three quotes were(base prices)Earnhardt Honda ($25,113); Honda Cars of Mesa ($26,163); and Tempe Honda (26,274). All the dealers I spoke to, said that in Phoenix there was a $2000 incentive until 7/5.
The Pilot I purchased only had 25 miles on it and the entire deal took less than two hours at the dealership. However, I did not have a trade and I arranged financing beforehand.
Hope this information helps someone else, the information on this forum certainly helped me.
As far as accessories, their prices were in the middle range compared to what the other dealers quoted so I accepted them as is. Also, Earnhardt's out the door price was $1100 lower than my second best quote(Honda Cars of Mesa).
They did provide me list with prices of what they charge for all the available accessories installed.
We told them we would give them $27,629 for the car. They had a package they added already that included a lojack for $700, Tinted windows for $140 and Paint and Fabric for $299. That is $1659 and i told them I would give them half of that which is $830 plus all of the tax and other bs charges.
They said that we weren't allowing them to make any money and that the best they could offer was $30,464 for the vehicle plus $299 for paint and Fabric protection, and $9000 for my trade which is not even in the ball park. Basically we are $3000 different in price then what I want to spend. How far off am I compared to others that have been shopping around? I told them I knew the incentive was $2000 until 7/5 and they had a $1038 holdback. He told me the incentive was only $1500 and he didn't know anything about the holdback.
It seems like the prices I’m seeing are about $2,000 less for a AWD Leather W / Nav. Of course I’ll have to put about a thousand miles on the thing to do this, but if this is really the case, anyone see a downside? I actually keep an address in CA and my insurance and license are still CA based, so that is not a problem.
Is it possible that the big CA dealers do so much volume that they can be that much better or do people think I can hammer the WA dealers to come close?
Do you mind telling me how much you paid for it?
I am a proud owner of a 2006 Honda Pilot EX with Leather and All Wheel Drive. I had shopped around getting quotes from the following 6 dealerships:
1) Route 22 Honda - Hillside - NJ
2) Garden State Honda - Clifton - NJ
3) Hudson Honda - West New York - NJ
4) Mahwah Honda - Mahwah - NJ
5) DCH Honda - Paramus - NJ
6) Open Road Honda - Edison - NJ
Finally ended up buying from Open Road Honda. Here are the pricing details:
Base Price: 26,031 (got 27,031 from an internet quote and it was further slashed by 1000 the following day)
Document Fee: 298
Registration Fee: 342 (bit high but no worries for 4 yrs as it is NJ state law to get the new vehicle registered for 4 yrs)
Destination: 550
NJ Sales Tax of 6%.
Grand Total was 28,823. Cannot believe it myself as I had received the base price quote higher than this from other dealers.
The experience at Open Road Honda dealership was very good except for minor arguments due to the APR they were quoting on the financing. I did make a fuss but not much since I am going to refinance or pay it off soon. I got the Auto Day / Night Rear View Mirror and Wheel Locks as freebies.
Thanks again to all!
30,836 base price
1,850 sales tax. 6%
99 documentation fee.
we will be buying this in the next few days. keep you all updated. I would have to personally thank, all, who have posted on this forum. This discussion is definetely helping customers like us!!
mrm.
have you even found an amazon with nav. I'd bet it doesn't exist in HOU but I could be wrong. Tell Russell Smith exactly what you want, and they will do a locate. They should be able to tell you if and when they can get the color you want. Quite honestly if you are trading the price doesn't matter much. They could sell you the car for 20K but if they give you 1K for your car what good is it. You just have to go to the dealer and see what they will give you. I'd suggest going to carmax, and letting them appraise your car. This will give you an option to sell, although you will lose tax savings. You can get a dealer to try and match it. If no dealer or carmax gives you what you want, then you may have to sell it on your own or maybe its not worth what you think.
Consider this. Edmunds has private party value of an 05 EXL at 26.5K, trade in at 24.8K and dealer retail at 29.6K. I just bought an 06 new for 26,247. Do you really think a dealer would be wise to give 24.8 for an 05. Perhaps Edmunds is just wrong. They are certainly wrong on the TMV of the 2006 pilot. You also want to trade in a v8. The reason pilots are so cheap is gas prices. A navigator does not help. All I am saying is ask yourself if you are being realistic regarding your trade.
Some have told me that they don't have what I am looking for in stock, but can get one. So do I negotiate price then tell them to get one in white or vice versa?
I recommend them fully. Price includes running boards. Many thanks to this Forum for all the advice and research, it certainly made our Pilot buying experince a great one!
Thanks!
I was offered $28,000 OTD for a 2006 EX-L AWD, including mud guards, floor mats, wheel locks, and plastic strip door guards.
Do you think this is a fabulous deal? Or should I wait it out another month, as they get more anxious about unloading the '06 models?
Thanks!!!!!
I have already had it appraised at that figure. Three Appraisals so far all between $9500 and $10K
You have three apraisals at 9500 to 10K. Is that enough? If so then what is the problem. Is it that they won't sell at a price that Russell Smith offered. If that is the case then let Russell Smith appraise it. If 10K is not enough, then I'd say the fact that three different dealers have given you that number, suggest to me that dealers will not be giving more.
Which goodson did you go to. I know that Goodson west is willing to deal. In fact they even beat Russell's original number. But they didn't have a color that I wanted. I had to get Russell to match them. If Goodson west has the car you want, I know you can get a very good deal.
I can't get anyone at Russel and Smith to call me back regarding yesterday's quote.
Thanks for the help.
