I think that's a pretty good price you got ($28149.00). :) Congratulations ! Did you get any financing offer with that ?

Started with the Internet Ronen. Requested quotes from various local dealerships, and began negotiating. Didn't take but 2 or 3 emails.

Great way to shop. Let them compete for your business. (Note: make sure after getting a quote that you confirm it is for exactly what you want. They sometimes have a tendency to leave off some items.)

This evening I purchased a 2006 Pilot EX-L 2WD (no RES or NAV) for $28,117 on-the-road. Selling price $26839. No destination fee (just 3% tax, processing, tag and title).

Honda of Concord (NC). I live approximately 75 miles away and sent quote requests to 8 dealers in the region. They came in lowest out the gate (7 dealers responded) and I narrowed the negotiating to two dealerships after one day. Both were very easy to work with. The internet staff at Honda of Concord was great throughout. I would be happy to share my message string (as well as give a plug to my salesman!) to them and all of the other dealerships.

I must say -- USE THIS FORUM! Use it to craft your quote request. Use it to negotiate. Get a summary email of both your final OTD price and interest rate. Finally, sit back and enjoy the process. Negotiating an interest rate (from 7.99 -- riiiiiiight -- to 5.94 to 5.69 at the dealership) over the phone while eating enchiladas (I'm not joking) is much more pleasant than doing it at the dealership!

This is one of those "I feel good about the deal" situations. I know that there are others on this board that have done better, but I feel great about the price I paid for the car I have in my garage right now. I can't sleep!

Any ideas on how prices on the 2006 will change as it gets closer to the arrival of the 2007 models? I've decided to buy a Pilot, but am not in a great hurry. Any one had experience buying after new models arrive? What kind of savings are possible?

Thanks for the in :confuse: put.

are you talking about a 2WD or AWD?

I've been talking with a guy from 'Norm Reeves' but not sure if I want to buy down in socal or up here near seattle.

up here, I'm getting quoted $31,257 for an 06 AWD with nav. it can get complicated, I always try to seperate trade, finance and car price, but it's hard,,, I often get so tweaked at car salesfolk
  • alanrosenbergalanrosenberg Member Posts: 28
I'm pretty sure I'll get a pilot within 6 months,,, sooner if I want,,, but I'm wondering what changes 07 will bring. I'm seeing some big changes were made for 06, so I'm not sure 07 will have major changes. It's be nice if they upped the power to the MDX levels as my 02 trailblazer is noticeably more peppy, but beyond that, the pilot is just about right for me.

Picked up my 4WD EXL with NAV Pilot about 2 hours ago. Here is the deal. Keenan Honda in Doylestown, PA. $28,800 plus destination and tax and reg. Easy deal. I had no trade so it was a straight purchase. Thanks to everyone who posted here. I was ready to buy at $30,200 and then someone posted a better price so I called up my salesman and he said he would match it. I was in and out of the dealership in 90 min.

I had my financing set up in advance from my credit union. The Honda Financing was higher than my credit union. The dealer I bought it from is a high volume dealership and had about 20 Pilots in stock. I was going to trade my 01 BMW 530 but they only offered me 11K for it so I decided not to trade it in and will try to sell it myself.

    Is this a good deal?

    $1999 Down Payment
    $300 Security Deposit
    12000 Annual Mileage
Restrictions: Lease based on a 2006 Pilot LX AWD (model #YF1816EW). Prices include $1,500 dealer contribution to achieve $279 monthly payment.

Just so you know, Texas is one of only two states that charges tax on the entire vehicle. You will pay a lot of tax on a three year lease.

With the tax structure in Texas, I can pretty much guarantee that you will come out ahead if you buy the car and trade it in three years. Advantage of leasing is essentially that you have a guaranteed price, but I can pretty much assure you that you will come out well ahead if you buy it and sell when you are ready for a new one, assuming you are going to pay those numbers.

David Michael Honda in Freehold. No accessories were discussed. This was the price he gave me, with absolutely no bargaining on my part, as I was just checking out the Pilot, and my time-frame to buy is July end. Also, I wanted to check out the Acura. I am pretty sure, he would have gone down more or included accessories, if I was ready to buy.

Hi, I am interested in purchasing 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L 4AWD with RES or Navi. I recieved the following quotes from Clinton Honda in NJ:
    1) 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L RES 4AWD - $28,479 + destination & handling
    2) 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L 4AWD w/Nagi - $29,495 + destination & handling.

Are the prices above good? (I am also planning to trade-in a 2002 honda accord EX-v6 Coupe).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This forum was helpful with my purchase so I thought I would post the price I paid and my buying experience.

I used edmunds to send out several internet quote requests. I'm in the south burbs of chicago. Planet Honda in Matteson $27,292. Ed Napleton Honda in Oak Lawn $26,850. Community Honda in Orland Park $26,213.

I ultimately went with Community Honda and couldn't have had a more pleasant buying experience. Just about everything had been arranged over the phone or through the internet. When I arrived at the dealership I was greeted outside and they new who I was even though we never met before. From start to finish the whole process was smooth organized and very professional.

Community Honda price 2006 Honda Pilot EX 4WD Amazon Green $26,213 (includes destination) Doc Fee $57.33 License/Title Fee $80.00 Other misc. fees $40.00 and of course cook and state tax. By the way this price includes the manufacturer to dealer $2000 incentive. Very happy with my new car, hope this helps others with there negotiating.

Honda of Concord would be a good option for me, and additional info. you offered to send would be great. Thanks.

I’m thinking of getting the EX 2WD model but I’m not in a hurry to get one. My time frame to purchase is in Sept-Oct. After reading many posts, I was thinking of an out the door price of $26,500 with a trade-in (2000 Toyota Corolla CE). Do you think that’s a good deal or can I do better? Thanks.

In my state of Texas, you can usually tell how long a new car has been on the lot from the sticker for the state inspection, which is done as soon as the car arrives and shows a month and year. On the lot of a large nearby Honda dealer, I noticed that they have a whole bunch of 2006 Pilots that have been on the lot since October-November 2005. They have the same trim levels, colors, etc. as the newer inventory Pilots that have been there since April-May. Some have a lot of dealer accessories added, others don't. From the window stickers, I can tell that they aren't transfers from other dealerships.

Okay, conventional wisdom tells me that all things being equal, I'd rather have the "new" inventory than a car that's been sitting for 8 months. But, would there be a reason why the dealer would make a "better" deal on these semi-leftovers than the fresh ones? And what's going to happen when the model year changes and these really are year-old leftovers?

Just trying to get an edge.... Thanks -- Owl

I just picked up a 2006 Pilot AWD EXL w/Navigation from a dealer in Doylestown for $28,758 + tax and reg fees. Their internet salesperson was very professional without any hard sell for extras, etc. that some dealers do at the end.

Thanks to everyone who has posted to this list. Your experiences helped me in getting what seems like a good price.

    Cheers

right now, as per consumerreports.org, honda has a $2000 factory-dealer incentive and a $1038 dealer holdback on each vehicle. you should be able to save at least 80-100%($2400-3000)off the invoice if you buy from their inventory. I paid $25 bucks for the report, but to save an extra $800... Good luck!!!
  • riannjhriannjh Member Posts: 1
Where exactly did you find this info? I got a Pilot report on their site just today and I do not see a dealer incentive or a dealer holdback in any form....
    Thanks

I just bought an 06 Pilot EXL 4 wheel drive in Grand Rapids, Mi from Fox Honda for 28,000. Their first offer was 28,780. When I called and presented a cheaper price from another dealer (160 miles away), they dropped to 28K which was good enuf for me in as much as the dealer is 3 miles from my house, I'm busy, etc. I haven't bought a car in a long time. Wow, what a different experience car buying has become. Thanks for all the help I received from reading your posts.

P.S. The sales person at Fox Honda told me they have a sales goal with Honda that requires them to sell a lot of Hondas between now and the end of the month. I have a feeling people can do this deal all month long. If you're in western Michigan, good luck with the other dealers. I found them unresponsive in many ways. Oh well.

Hello San Juan. I bought a 4wd EX. My interest was in buying a white honda pilot. Oddly enough, white is not available in Canada, which is what started my search in the US. My best quote in Canada (Vancouver) for an LX 4wd was $39,000 plus sales tax of 14%. I bought my EX from Honda Fife for $26,415 US. I did not have to pay local taxes as I was exporting the vehicle. After paying exchange, import inspection fees and Canadian taxes (it cost me just under $37,000 Canadian all in. My experience with Honda of Fife was not all that great. But I got a higher end vehicle than I had originally planned, in the colour I wanted and saved quite a bit of money. One catch....I will have to go to US to get warranty work done.

Hello paulg16 . Thank you for your reply. I read your message before it was removed,( I assume for posting a name of a salesperson), it was very helpful. I hope I didn't get you in trouble with the moderator of this board.
P.S. Is the customs process very complicated?
  • paulg16paulg16 Member Posts: 9
Yes, I was reminded that I should not have used names. My mistake and I apologize.
The process is not complicated but a bunch of stuff has to be done ahead of time. Have a look at the website of the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV). I don't think I'm allowed to provide web address. Here are some pointers:
    1. Call riv to confirm that it is ok to bring the vehicle across.
    2. You will need to have selected the vehicle and done the deal - you will need name of seller, serial number etc. Then, you have to file forms with US customs 3 days before bringing the vehicle across.
    3. Get ICBC temporary insurance for the new vehicle
    4. Get a temporary driving permit from the US dealer at time of purchase.
    5. At border, you will have to go to US customs first (at Truck Crossing). Then Canada Customs where you will be charged GST and a $209 inspection fee.
    6. Once vehicle is across border, RIV will send you forms you need to have inspection done. I called them each day and on the 3rd day, they faxed the forms to me.
    7. Get inspection done at Canadian Tire.
    8. Go to insurance agent and get vehicle registered and insured. This is where you will pay pst.

    A few other points:
9 Make sure US dealer gives you original title papers for the vehicle and signs off on them.
    10. Models in US come with different equipment than those in Canada. For instance, all models in Canada are AWD. This is not the case in US.
    11. A couple of things Inspection looked at: Day time running lights and Speedometer in KM (Odomoter in miles is ok). You should check to see that vehicle has these. My Ex did; even if it didn't its no big deal but will be something you have to attend to.

Good luck and jot another note, if you have questions. It is a lot easier than it sounds.

This is most helpful. :) Thank you VERY much. I wish we could connect somehow without violating the rules of this board. I'd like to treat you to a dinner or a drink to repay a favor in a small way. What color did you get? Maybe I'll spot you driving around Vancouver (some colors are not available in Canada)?

hi pualg16, Thanks for your help. One more question, does the $26415 include destination fee or not?
  • daveinncdaveinnc Member Posts: 2
I purchased the Consumer Reports new car report for both the 2WD and 4WD versions of the Pilot on June 10th and neither report is showing a $2000 dealer incentive for June. I have my doubts about this though, because recent ads in my local paper (I live in Charlotte) are listing 2006 Pilot 2WD LX at $24,299, which is pretty much dealer invoice. Not really sure how to confirm the incentive; I'm sure not going to buy a Pilot without it being in place.
  • 99accord99accord Member Posts: 6
If it is any help, I am shopping for a Pilot in Phoenix, AZ right now and more than one dealer has told me that the $2000 incentive is good until 7/5.

    Hello San Juan & fxcoach.
My transaction was a bit complicated as I have a friend in Tacoma who had made a deposit for me. As well, I purchased a couple of driving permits through the dealer. My price in Canadian dollars to my door was $37,000 for a White Ex 4wd. The US price, including deposit, permits, destination, etc was $28,385 US. Sorry, I did not include deposit in earlier US numbers. Canadian numbers were/are correct and are all in.

    Hi paulg, sanjuan & fxcoach,

Thanks for your inputs here. I see that you guys have imported the Pilot to Canada. What did you do with the warranty (or in the process of doing so). AFAIK, Honda does not honour the new car warranty once the car crosses the border (not temporary trips, once you do a export/import). Have you taken a replacement warranty or just taking the chance without the warranty?

    Thanks
    CarLover
  • daveinncdaveinnc Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the info. I'm going to negotiate as if it's in place, although I suspect I'm going to hear from the dealer "not available in my region".
  • fxcoachfxcoach Member Posts: 11
That was simple. Thank you. :)
  • paulg16paulg16 Member Posts: 9
Hi CarLover. I was told that I will have to bring the vehicle back into US for warranty work. I plan on having routine mtce. work done at a dealer in my town. If they raise deficiencies covered by warranty, I will get them addressed in US - I usually go to US 2 or 3 times a year. If something major happens, I will have the vehicle transported to US. The savings for me were about $8,000 and that is why I was prepared to accept this.
  • carlover10carlover10 Member Posts: 13
    Hi paulg again,

Who told you this? Was it the Honda dealer, where you bought it? When I called Honda Canada, they said once I import the car to Canada, it loses the new car warranty provided by Honda. I don't really know whether it's true.
If it's true, it's only a Honda policy, most of the other manufacturers honour the warranty, though some with few restrictions, across North America.
I know the savings is huge. That's why I'm also considering this. However, a bit worried about the whole warranty. I also don't mind taking it to the US to get the repair done if the warranty is applicable in US.

    Thanks again
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
heck, for $8k savings, I'd personally take my chances even if it voids the warranty. Even a full engine or tranny rebuild would cost you way less than $8k, and the odds of needing either of those within the manufacturers warranty period are extremely slim.

I purchased a US extended warranty and it specifies that it is good anywhere in the US or Canada. Last summer, when I took a road trip to Montreal, Honda sent a detailed map including all Canadian Honda dealers along the route, all of whom I could go to for warranty work.

I would assume that the same applies to the normal warranty.
  • paulg16paulg16 Member Posts: 9
I got my info from the dealer - Honda of Fife near Tacoma. They made a point of giving me a piece of paper stating that the warranty is not good in Canada. On question, they told me it meant the warranty would be good if I brought vehicle to them in the US. Other than witnesses, I have nothing else. While my price seems to be very high compared to the prices quoted by others on this forum, it was quite a saving from what I could get in the Vancouver area. I figured the savings was worth it.

I just bought a Pilot EX 4WD in Rochester, NY for $25,600 plus tax and license on June 12, 2006. Dealer said they had a ton of Pilots on the lot because gas prices were driving everyone to the CRV, plus they had a factory cash incentive. Their opening bid was 26,300 ($1900 below invoice) and we negotiated down another $700. All colors to choose from (they had 40+ Pilots on the lot)and brand new (50 miles on odometer) A very pleasant buying experience. They never tried to push us into something we didn't want.

My husband and I are hoping to purchase a 2006 Honda Pilot. We test drove the LX last week and it was nice but the EX 2WD would be nicer! My ConsumerReports numbers show the EX 2WD with a dealer invoice of around $27,700 but after reading many of the posts I am thinking we should be able to do better than that. I would love to hear some locals ideas. We are willing to come over to Seattle or Tacoma..

Which dealer? I am in Rochester and I have been quoted some very good prices as well for the EXL, $2500 below invoice over the phone!

Still looking for a Pilot w/ nav. Went to Kirkland [wa] Honda and they had a much better inventory, told them a dealer in CA [norm reaves] had offered to take my trade [02 chevy Trailblazer] pay it off and $0 down have a 36 month lease @428 / month.

First the guy comes back and tries to sell me on them taking and paying off my chevy and $2388 down and I say ‘why should I do that with my other offer?’

So the guy comes back and says their bottom line, it don’t get better, any less and they’d lose money,,, was no out of pocket and $440 / month [36 month 12k lease]
This is all based on a $5600 payoff on my chevy and a trade credit of $10,000. [been advertising it at 12.5]

I then had to explain to him that while he was a nice guy [?] why should I pay them more for the same thing, even though he kindly explained to me that gosh, they were only 40 cents a day more.

So, even though the last offer was their bottom line, they’d lose money on less, he said ‘what if we took the 428 with no down, I said I’d probably be back but I had to go [I said up front I had to leave at a set time and gave him ½ an hour more]

So, 2 things; 1. I have having the trade in the deal, but selling them is so hard lately. 2. If he dropped so easily, maybe I can get a little better?
