Great way to shop. Let them compete for your business. (Note: make sure after getting a quote that you confirm it is for exactly what you want. They sometimes have a tendency to leave off some items.)
Honda of Concord (NC). I live approximately 75 miles away and sent quote requests to 8 dealers in the region. They came in lowest out the gate (7 dealers responded) and I narrowed the negotiating to two dealerships after one day. Both were very easy to work with. The internet staff at Honda of Concord was great throughout. I would be happy to share my message string (as well as give a plug to my salesman!) to them and all of the other dealerships.
I must say -- USE THIS FORUM! Use it to craft your quote request. Use it to negotiate. Get a summary email of both your final OTD price and interest rate. Finally, sit back and enjoy the process. Negotiating an interest rate (from 7.99 -- riiiiiiight -- to 5.94 to 5.69 at the dealership) over the phone while eating enchiladas (I'm not joking) is much more pleasant than doing it at the dealership!
This is one of those "I feel good about the deal" situations. I know that there are others on this board that have done better, but I feel great about the price I paid for the car I have in my garage right now. I can't sleep!
However, no salesman plugs, please....
regards,
kyfdx

Thanks for the in :confuse: put.
I've been talking with a guy from 'Norm Reeves' but not sure if I want to buy down in socal or up here near seattle.
up here, I'm getting quoted $31,257 for an 06 AWD with nav. it can get complicated, I always try to seperate trade, finance and car price, but it's hard,,, I often get so tweaked at car salesfolk
on Pilot EX-L 4 wheel drive with DVD in Massachusetts?
I appreciate your help.
Is this a good deal?
$279 Monthly Payment
36 Month Term
$1999 Down Payment
$300 Security Deposit
12000 Annual Mileage
Restrictions: Lease based on a 2006 Pilot LX AWD (model #YF1816EW). Prices include $1,500 dealer contribution to achieve $279 monthly payment.
Comments: $3,173 due at signing. Dealer participation may vary. Incentives and Rebates are provided subject to the terms of our Visitor Agreement. Tax, tags and insurance are extra.
With the tax structure in Texas, I can pretty much guarantee that you will come out ahead if you buy the car and trade it in three years. Advantage of leasing is essentially that you have a guaranteed price, but I can pretty much assure you that you will come out well ahead if you buy it and sell when you are ready for a new one, assuming you are going to pay those numbers.
1) 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L RES 4AWD - $28,479 + destination & handling
2) 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L 4AWD w/Nagi - $29,495 + destination & handling.
Are the prices above good? (I am also planning to trade-in a 2002 honda accord EX-v6 Coupe).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I used edmunds to send out several internet quote requests. I'm in the south burbs of chicago. Planet Honda in Matteson $27,292. Ed Napleton Honda in Oak Lawn $26,850. Community Honda in Orland Park $26,213.
I ultimately went with Community Honda and couldn't have had a more pleasant buying experience. Just about everything had been arranged over the phone or through the internet. When I arrived at the dealership I was greeted outside and they new who I was even though we never met before. From start to finish the whole process was smooth organized and very professional.
Community Honda price 2006 Honda Pilot EX 4WD Amazon Green $26,213 (includes destination) Doc Fee $57.33 License/Title Fee $80.00 Other misc. fees $40.00 and of course cook and state tax. By the way this price includes the manufacturer to dealer $2000 incentive. Very happy with my new car, hope this helps others with there negotiating.

Okay, conventional wisdom tells me that all things being equal, I'd rather have the "new" inventory than a car that's been sitting for 8 months. But, would there be a reason why the dealer would make a "better" deal on these semi-leftovers than the fresh ones? And what's going to happen when the model year changes and these really are year-old leftovers?
Just trying to get an edge.... Thanks -- Owl
Thanks to everyone who has posted to this list. Your experiences helped me in getting what seems like a good price.
Cheers
so have you guyes purchaged the car? I'm looking for a 4wd EXL in seattle area, not sure what price I should aim at. Could you share your information about it?
thanks.
Thanks
P.S. The sales person at Fox Honda told me they have a sales goal with Honda that requires them to sell a lot of Hondas between now and the end of the month. I have a feeling people can do this deal all month long. If you're in western Michigan, good luck with the other dealers. I found them unresponsive in many ways. Oh well.
P.S. Is the customs process very complicated?
The process is not complicated but a bunch of stuff has to be done ahead of time. Have a look at the website of the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV). I don't think I'm allowed to provide web address. Here are some pointers:
1. Call riv to confirm that it is ok to bring the vehicle across.
2. You will need to have selected the vehicle and done the deal - you will need name of seller, serial number etc. Then, you have to file forms with US customs 3 days before bringing the vehicle across.
3. Get ICBC temporary insurance for the new vehicle
4. Get a temporary driving permit from the US dealer at time of purchase.
5. At border, you will have to go to US customs first (at Truck Crossing). Then Canada Customs where you will be charged GST and a $209 inspection fee.
6. Once vehicle is across border, RIV will send you forms you need to have inspection done. I called them each day and on the 3rd day, they faxed the forms to me.
7. Get inspection done at Canadian Tire.
8. Go to insurance agent and get vehicle registered and insured. This is where you will pay pst.
A few other points:
9 Make sure US dealer gives you original title papers for the vehicle and signs off on them.
10. Models in US come with different equipment than those in Canada. For instance, all models in Canada are AWD. This is not the case in US.
11. A couple of things Inspection looked at: Day time running lights and Speedometer in KM (Odomoter in miles is ok). You should check to see that vehicle has these. My Ex did; even if it didn't its no big deal but will be something you have to attend to.
Good luck and jot another note, if you have questions. It is a lot easier than it sounds.
that's easy. just unhide your email address in your profile.

link to the pilot rebate sight. (sorry, its not listed in consumer report)
My transaction was a bit complicated as I have a friend in Tacoma who had made a deposit for me. As well, I purchased a couple of driving permits through the dealer. My price in Canadian dollars to my door was $37,000 for a White Ex 4wd. The US price, including deposit, permits, destination, etc was $28,385 US. Sorry, I did not include deposit in earlier US numbers. Canadian numbers were/are correct and are all in.
Thanks for your inputs here. I see that you guys have imported the Pilot to Canada. What did you do with the warranty (or in the process of doing so). AFAIK, Honda does not honour the new car warranty once the car crosses the border (not temporary trips, once you do a export/import). Have you taken a replacement warranty or just taking the chance without the warranty?
Thanks
CarLover
Who told you this? Was it the Honda dealer, where you bought it? When I called Honda Canada, they said once I import the car to Canada, it loses the new car warranty provided by Honda. I don't really know whether it's true.
If it's true, it's only a Honda policy, most of the other manufacturers honour the warranty, though some with few restrictions, across North America.
I know the savings is huge. That's why I'm also considering this. However, a bit worried about the whole warranty. I also don't mind taking it to the US to get the repair done if the warranty is applicable in US.
Thanks again

I would assume that the same applies to the normal warranty.
First the guy comes back and tries to sell me on them taking and paying off my chevy and $2388 down and I say ‘why should I do that with my other offer?’
So the guy comes back and says their bottom line, it don’t get better, any less and they’d lose money,,, was no out of pocket and $440 / month [36 month 12k lease]
This is all based on a $5600 payoff on my chevy and a trade credit of $10,000. [been advertising it at 12.5]
I then had to explain to him that while he was a nice guy [?] why should I pay them more for the same thing, even though he kindly explained to me that gosh, they were only 40 cents a day more.
So, even though the last offer was their bottom line, they’d lose money on less, he said ‘what if we took the 428 with no down, I said I’d probably be back but I had to go [I said up front I had to leave at a set time and gave him ½ an hour more]
So, 2 things; 1. I have having the trade in the deal, but selling them is so hard lately. 2. If he dropped so easily, maybe I can get a little better?
