    2WD or 4WD

After sending several emails to about 6 dealers in NC, the best offer I've got on the VP 2WD is:

    36 mo/36 K miles
    Total OTD fees $399
    No money down
$323/mo. (including tax) NC tax 3% ($9.42 mo.)
    Money Factor .00071
    Residual 52%
    MSRP $28,230
    Selling Price $24,300

What do you think???? I shot out another email saying this is the best offer and I already got a couple back saying they would beat it, so I'm sure I'll get lower.

I would love to get the upgraded model (sunroof, homelink, etc), I am coming out of a Lexus 330 but trying to get more practical. I'm wondering how the MF's and Res will compare. If I could stay under $370 with the EX or SE, I'd do it but I don't think the lease factors are as good. Any thoughts?

Hi kderobertis, Thanks for replying. It is 2WD. The 4WD is being quoted 1200 more. Let me know what you think.
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
That's a pretty good price, about $800 below dealer invoice.

    Invoice is $31,097.77 - $1,000 (dealer incentive) = $30,097.99

I'm sure you could do better after the holidays.

    Hi,
27,500 out the door price is a bit more than what I just paid. My price was 27,100 (total out the door) including tax, tag and everything else (state tax 6%)
    So bargain a little more......

By the way, I really enjoy the vehicle.
  • randy34randy34 Member Posts: 6
    Hi,

Couple of days after I wrote my first message on this blog, I was able to bargain an additional $100. So the price I have at this moment is $27,400.00 (total out the door) including tax, tag, and everything else (state tax 6.75%). I am located in Ohio.
    What do you think?

Thank you very much for your message
  • putra1putra1 Member Posts: 5
    That's a good price.
Considering the fact that we get an AWD vehicle with 3 rows seating, 5 star safety rating (my main priority), powerful engine, Honda reliability etc...........you will not find another vehicle that offers all that for this price ( and believe me, I searched and researched a whole lot)
    So, enjoy your Pilot !!!

I used to work at a dealer. The "sealant package" consisted of a good coat of turtle wax, two cans of 3M scotchgard sprayed on the interior. And the "protection package" I would advise them all of this you can buy aftermarket. Take it off. Ask! What do you have to lose?

    Hi
After seeing the lease offer on the honda corp website (2008 4wd Pilot VP, 279/mo, 1999 down, + tax ttl reg etc.) Some honda dealers are pretty much making up their own prices and saying "Well, there are some monthly maintenance fees associated with this...yada yada." I called Honda Customer assistance and honda finance and both of them indicated that what was on the corp site was a national campaign and no deviation is allowed. I called the dealer back and advised them of this and their tune changed! So now, here is what they have given me:
"$1999 down, 36 months, 12k miles - $279 per month + tax ($299 including tax) The residual is 54% being $18,160.00. The money factor is 0.00117.
They still have not given me the sale price, working on that. So do you negotiate the sales price like you are buying the car and then lease off the nego sales price?
  • pbs0626pbs0626 Member Posts: 18
In NC, I have been negotiating on the VP 2WD with no money down. So far, the best sale price is $23550. The money factor on a 36 MO/36K lease is .00071 and residual 52%. My payment is around $309 (no tax). NC tax is 3%, so with tax monthly payment is around $318, again - No Money Down. In NC, 4WD is not really needed, so I can save by going with the 2WD. I've had 4 other SUV's in the past 10 years and all have been 2WD. Is anyone getting a better price out there? I'm still trying to get the sale price down a little, I've got a few dealers emailing me.
    Thanks,
    P

how does the $1999 down break down

or what is the total of all payments and other cost after 36 months.
  • cargal6cargal6 Member Posts: 1
The lease factors should be the same no matter what trim level you get. The payments will just be higher. The SE is a really great package and it residualizes better than the VP. You might want to look at your payment options on that. You'll get a roof AND DVD.

I think I made a good deal, or what do you guys think?

the final price for the car was 25 200 at kirkland Honda, incl mudguard, mold plus wheel-locks. Got a 7 yr warranty/ 0 deduct for 1K extra => 26 200 out the door.
    Pleasant buying experience, no hassle.

I know they have a few left at the Kirkland dealership, ad also a few out in Bremerton. They are going cheap right now, but hurry up
  • ibhg31ibhg31 Member Posts: 6
Hey that's a great deal.. I'm currently in the market and the best deal I've received so far here in Las Vegas is $28, 895. BTW where did you purchase your Pilot?
  • roxiethecatroxiethecat Member Posts: 1
Hello, I have the following quote from a local dealer in Dallas, who is willing to make my first payment:

    Initial Cap Cost(selling price): $ 29,500.00
Total Sales Tax: $368.75 (at 1.25% iso 6.25%)
Total Add Cap Costs: $ 595.00 bank fee
    Adjusted Cap Cost: $ 30,427.67
    L.E.V.%: 49.00% or 16,013.20
    Total Initial Fees: $ 180.00
    Money Factor: 0.00071
Amount Due At Start: $ 180.00
    Total Monthly Payment: $ 429

This sounds pretty good to me, but wondering if others think there is still room to bargain?

    Thanks,
    Roxie

Looking for any information on a recent purchase of a 08 Pilot 4WD EXL; w/o DVD/NAV. Current offering @ $29917 MSRP of $34,080. Thoughts ???
  • pbs0626pbs0626 Member Posts: 18
I thought the same thing and got pricing on the SE, however was told the residual was 51%. I questioned it myself. Perhaps the interenet sales person got confused. I would definately think the SE would have a higher residual with all the extras.???

Also, I went into the dealership yesterday, ready to write a check for my first payment on the Pilot. I need to trade my 05 Lexus RX330. NADA clean trade-in value is around $28K. They called Lexus and asked what Lexus Financial would take for it, $24K. SOOOOO, they are only offering me $24K. Said they would just sell it back to Lexus. Are you kidding me? I would buy it for $24K!!! Said they are selling me my Pilot at wholesale ($23550) so they are buying my Lexus at wholesale from me. GIVE ME A BREAK. Wholesale? I doubt it. I owe $27K on the car so they figure I am desperate. I could sell it on my own for $27K and give someone a great deal. Retail is around $30K. I'll just call the other dealers I've been talking to and see who's willing to offer more. I was so insulted, I just walked out.

My wife and I just tried to pick up a new Pilot EXL DVD 4WD and they wouldn't budge much off the MSRP.They were real sarcastic and said it's a Honda! This was Honda North and Baierl in Pittsburgh.I told them it's an old body style and that it should be heavily discounted but they were arrogant.please advise,Thank you
  • jraawernjraawern Member Posts: 4
I was only offered $9500 for my '03 Pilot EXL DVD with tow,78000 miles. The Honda dealers tell you that the Pilot has good resale but then they don't offer you any more for your trade than a Buick dealer. They are all liars especially Honda dealers and their terrible service departments.
  • putra1putra1 Member Posts: 5
I bought it from Willis Honda in NJ.....after weeks of haggling via email.
The price you mentioned ($28,895) is way too high for the 2008 Honda VP AWD model.....need to bargain more.
  • znewmanznewman Member Posts: 10
I received inquiries about my Honda deals in the NY-Long Island region -- I proceeded to lease a second Pilot from the dealer given the customer service and the pricing -- the dealership is Nardy Honda in Smithtown and you should ask for the salesman that did the two recent Newman transactions.
  • samersimsimsamersimsim Member Posts: 1
I think you got a good deal.
I got 2007 EXL AWD -RED (silver Metalic) for 28,200 in Illinois in July 07. The Dealer was Honda of Lisle. I paid another $1K for the warranty. I am not sure If I got a good deal but I m sure you got a good one. Any thoughts from anyone?
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
I went to Nardy in Sept and they had a huge inventory on 08' Pilot, but weren't looking to sell without making a nice profit, took my business elsewere and had a $2,300 saving.

Glad you were happy with you price.
  • piloti_stipiloti_sti Member Posts: 62
Quoted $24475. plus tax tag title. Nothing else. Good on purchase or lease...

How does this deal compare, good till end of year...

    Thanks
  • sherwin2sherwin2 Member Posts: 7
You can get it for around 29,300 w/ all-weather floor mats, cargo tray, wheel locks and splash guards included. Don't settle for less. I checked with 7 dealers and no one would go below 29,000.
  • sherwin2sherwin2 Member Posts: 7
Whats the best deal out there? buying it with cash.
  • sherwin2sherwin2 Member Posts: 7
I suggest you go to another dealer or two. Or go to KBB.com and have 3 dealerships bid for your business. I am picking up a Pilot EX-L 4WD and got 14% of MSRP. I am paying $29,300 plus Tax & Tags and some freebees included.
  • quattro5quattro5 Member Posts: 42
I was just quoted 24,590 on the VP and 28,205 on the SE, so we are in the same ballpark.
  • saublesauble Member Posts: 1
Could you please provide more details of your deal? Like the sales name. I'm very interested in getting one like this. Thank you.

Thanks to all of you for posting previous purchase information. We were looking to replace my wife's 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan with a car-like SUV. We decided on the Pilot and shopped around online in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. We settled on Richland-Bloomfield Honda off Penn Ave. in the Bloomington area. They sold it to us today for $31,190 (before TTL) at 4.9% interest on a five year note. They also gave us Kelley Blue Book value of $5,000 for our van, which was fair in my opinion considering my son had put two good-size gashes in the cloth when he was very young, my wife nailed the side mirror and both sides of the van pulling out of the garage over the years, the brakes squealed fiercely, etc. Frankly I was happy they gave us $5k for it. All in all, a good deal in my humble opinion, they treated us fairly (finance guy tried to upsell us but we politely told him "no thanks" and he respected that), gave us three free oil changes and a full tank of gas.

For those of you considering purchasing the Pilot, I can tell you we absolutely love it. Granted, we've had it less than 24 hours, but I love it. I was leaning towards the Pilot since I purchased my Acura TL two years ago (LOVE that car!). It's got great visibility w/the big windows, good stereo system, lots of storage, good amount of horsepower w/out being too gas-hungry, the kids love the dvd/stereo stuff in the back and I'm very impressed w/the sound on their headphones. The only drawbacks I can see so far are: 1) the slightly goofy perforated plastic 'thing' between the center console and the storage container between the seats - what the h*ll is this for?! Will probably be a pain in the *ss to clean; 2) slightly dated exterior that will be replaced in spring '09 from what I hear; we decided to go for it now because my wife isn't into design much and we wanted the security of a reliable vehicle and stability in snow; 3) a bit odd that the cruise control button is in the lower left corner of the dash, but I guess we'll just always leave it in the ON position; 4) why didn't they choose to light the steering-wheel radio/cruise control buttons?!; it's fully loaded but I have to turn a light on while driving to figure out which button sets the cruise???; I'm sure we'll figure this out over time but I'm surprised Honda decided to save a few $ on this - they can obviously do it, my Acura has it.

But overall I didn't find another vehicle that came close to meeting our needs/wants in this price range. My wife is ecstatic.

    Thanks again, RD

That sounds like a great price. Which dealer quoted you that?
  • sherwin2sherwin2 Member Posts: 7
I am buying (cash) a Pilot EX-L today for a price of 29,400 plus running boards, cross bars, splash guards, cargo tray, all-season floor mats, wheel locks, with tax tags doc fees for 31,900. Maybe my dealer needed the business more, who knows. I think I am getting a good value. The reason the buttons on the steering wheel do not light up is because it can be distracting and annoying, besides those buttons are easy to remember. Good luck with your vehicle.

I am going car shopping in the next few days in the New Orleans area. Does anyone out there know of a good Honda dealership in the N.O. area? Also- what would be a good price for the VP FWD Pilot? I am thinking somewhere in the 23,500 to 24,500 before TTL would be a deal based on what I have been reading on these boards in the past few days-- anyone have any advice or think that would be a good price?
any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Hi, I just got an offer of 25695 for a VP 4WD. The invoice is 26896 (before holdback). Since there is 1000 Honda marketing rebate, so I guess the offer is about 200 below the invoice. I am in Twin Cities. Is this a good deal? Thanks.

Initially I tried to make the deal via the internet-sales at Kirkland Honda, but the response was very slow. After a week or so with no response on emails, I simply went down to the dealership in person to explain my interest.
The deal was made really quick, I think it was the sales-manager there that gave me the handshake, I can't recall his name.
You always could try their-internet sales, hope you have better luck than me.
Also it might be worth getting in touch with Honda in Bremerton, they have a few 07's there I think.
Remember 08-Pilots sell for invoice right now , so no reason to pay more for 07's.
Dealerships gets a good incentive for each pilot they sell, plus that some of these have been on their lots for over a year so it is a buyers market out there.
  • putra1putra1 Member Posts: 5
Does that price of $25,695 include destination charges and ALL other charges ( except off course your state tax and Tag)?

Hi everyone. I got a lot of information from this board, so now I'm sharing my experience with you. Just bought a 08 VP FWD at $24,200 plus TTL. The dealer's internet sale price is $24403. I think there is still room to negotiate another couple of hundred down. But I got 2.9% financing from the dealership, which I'm very happy with.

Good luck to everyone and Happy New Year! :)

    Hi there,
CONGRATULATIONS on your NEW CAR!!! :shades:
Sounds like you got an awesome deal...can you tell me where you purchased
your pilot from, what dealership in what part of the states?

We're looking for a good deal too!

    thanks, jj =)

PS- what color did you get?
  • sherwin2sherwin2 Member Posts: 7
Bought from Princeton, NJ dealer. Plus I added running boards, cross bars. I think i got a fair deal.
  • echurch1echurch1 Member Posts: 2
I am the happy new owner (as of 7 hours ago) of a Honda Pilot (FWD, VP) I went to the local dealership and told the salesman that I didn't want to stay there all day and if he would sell me the car for 24,500 with no negotiating back and forth... I would buy it. I really was going to just leave if he didn't give it to me for that offer, but he came back in a few minutes and told me I could have it for that price. I was a little surprised that it was that easy and almost wished I would have gone even a little lower than that. I love, love, love my new car!

I have a 2004 Element, 40k mi in excellent condition. I owe 3500$ on it and would like to upgrade maybe to a Pilot. If I trade the Element in and netted 10000$, would that cover a 3 yr lease so I would not have to make any payments over the term? Does a dealership consider something like that? Would I be better off buying? I only have 9 more payments on the Element at 389$. There is probably a lot more information necessary to make a decision but I guess I'm interested in the general possibilities being addressed. Thank you.

After deciding to buy a Pilot over a similar Nissan and Toyota, I did some research and came across this Forum. You all have provided me so much good information, I felt I should share my experience. Needed to buy a new car asap so did some reading Saturday night. Sunday, I decided I wanted to purchase a Pilot EXL, 4WD, with Nav. Went to 2 dealerships, got a little bit of a runaround so kept shopping since they did not have the exact color/interior I wanted. At the third dealership, the salesman had one of a different color that he agreed to sell to me at my offer of dealer invoice price. At last second, decided to keep looking for the color i truly wanted. Went to Woodbridge, VA Honda and got a runaround and laughed at when told them i would pay invoice. Was told that nobody sells Pilot at invoice. While there, i called Browns Honda in Arlington, VA and asked for the specific color/model i wanted. The salesman I spoke to, Salvatore, said he would check and call me back. He called back and said he had it. I told him that another dealer was willing to sell me it at invoice. He asked if I would buy it there, if he offered the same deal and I said yep. Went there, found the Pilot (had 2 miles on it) and went inside and did the paperwork. Agreed to go $100 over invoice for the wheel locks, mud flaps). I am telling you it could not have been a better buying experience ( i am still in disbelief based upon previous car purchase hassles). No games, no nonsense running back and forth to the GM, no hidden charges. The same with the finance person. No pressure to buy undercoating or the warranty (which i learned from this forum that i could buy online). In and out in about 1 and a half hours. Paid $33, 000 even +TTL and I am completely happy. Not sure if it was because it was the end of the year, month and late in the day but I highly recommend this dealership. Salvatore is a knowledgeable, competent Honda rep. Just my opinion. Thought I would share my experience with you all. Thanks again for the good advice all have previously shared.
