Please tell me where you bought this car from.

Gunn in general is offering about $1200 off invoice (not factoring the $1000 honda-dealer mktg support), which makes it about $200 off invoice..

Is this a good deal ?

    Also
Everyone is quoting atleast $100 over MSRP for chrome side steps... Can I buy it cheaper online ?

I purchased 07 EXL- AWD with Navigation for $29,300 at Earnhardt Honda in Arizona. Dealerships here in Texas especially San Antonio want to hold the dealer rebate. You can save thousands for extra day or two travel out of the state. I met some folks at the dealership that came all the way from Canada go figure, anyways good luck.

Hi I just got back from buying my 08 Pilot EX 2WD. I bought it from Gunn Honda in San Antonio. The salesman was Chris Bond. I paid $25,550 + accessories + TTL. (2k under invoice)...

The dealership ROCKS! No pressure at all. Great upfront pricing. No negotiations. They gave me a pretty good discount on accessories after I asked for it.

The salesman was very well informed, and knew the answers at his fingertips. I financed the car thru my bank so no idea on their financing.

    About the dealership
+ They are TX's largest volume dealer
+ No haggle - for real
+ Best price. Closest match was almost 1 k more
    + Very clean service station
    - The dealership is kinda limited in space and there is not much privacy when discussing stuff with your salesman
    - I10/1604 is a bit croweded and could not really test drive as freely as I wanted..

Overall Im very happy. I lost a bit of $ on my trade but got a good deal on the purchase.

This is really the way to buy a Honda in central Texas..

    Go Gunn!

Thanks a million to dirtydogs (& others) for his advice....

I live in Southern California and I am in the market for a Pilot 2WD EX-L. I have seen the price structure but I am not sure I have gotten the best price. I have a couple of questions in reference to your pilot purchase:
1- What is included in the Pro package?
2- What part of the country do you line in?
3- What was the MSRP, dealers invoice?
4- Did you obtain financing, If so, What was the rate? 6.99% @ 60 months?

    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi All,
I have been a reader of this group for about 3 months now and thanks everyone for great help. Have been researching for a large suv for a while but could'nt find one in my price range and good quality but finally found it . Picked up Honda Pilot 2008 VP(silver) last night at Honda Of Marysville. No one was even close to what they offered. They were really nice and told me upfront , this is the best price over the phone itself after I contacted them thru Edmunds via internet. I took 2 weeks trying to find a better than that offer but could'nt find it. Got a 5.25 % financing from honda upto 60 mo.
Have already driven 50 miles and love it . The best part are the seats . Of all the vehicles I have driven till date including my Wife's BMW X3, these have the most comfortable seats.

    VP package price - 24082
    Doc fee - 299
    (5yr/60k Extnd bumper to bumper ) 495
    Sales Tax (6.75) 1677.41
    Total 26553.41

Extended Bumper to bumper includes 24 hr road side assistance ,towing, lockout, road hazard . I figured I was already paying $80 to AAA per year. I will cancel AAA and continue with this one . My other vehicle X3 also have 24 hr roadside coverage. So , basically I got extended 2 yrs coverage for $80 and I could'nt resisit taking that offer.

This is my Payback to this group by telling my experience. Have a nice buying experience.

Matchan, very sorry I didbn't reply to your posts. I have been busy and have not logged in for a few weeks, Chris Bond let me know today that you came in and purchased a Pilkot from him. Congratulations, I am sure you will love the vehicle. I ahve been averaging right at 20 MPG. Three tanks yielded 20, 19, and 21 MPG. The active cyclinder control really helps. My son has last years pilot and it is set up exactly like mine and he has a hard time breaking 20 MPG. By the way, the gas gauge is not linear. The first 100 miles gets you below 3/4 tank but then it slows down and I get well over 300 miles per tank. Enjoy your new toy

    Cheers

Here are some more of my thoughts on my new Pilot.....

More about the dealer - Gunn Honda
I hate to sound like I'm promoting anyone but since we could not install all accessories (the entire chrome shebang) Chris offered to meet me halfway at San Marcos (between Austin & San Antonio) to take in my Pilot to fit stuff and meet back 2 days later. I would have a loaner car in the meanwhile..

This is truly above & beyond. Its one of those rare times that the 'nemesis' (aka car dealer) thinks in your favour. Chris is especially good at his work. He has been doing this not too long but sells more cars because he is so easy to work with - This in itself is worth the car purchase even if his price is not the lowest...

It's a shame that Gunn does not deal Lexus - what my wife wants next.

Anyways: I felt very good sending a mail with the price paid & my experience to all the Austin area dealers who were nothing short of greedy pigs, trying to push the car at MSRP to me, and playing sales tactics (need your initial here if we offer you this price , blah blah)....

I did a lot of research before buying a car (I research anything and everything I buy). Thus far, my research about Gunn Honda has been better than expected.

Even the person that did my paperwork did not offer to sell anything i did not want and offered some advice that benefitted me - the consumer more than the dealer...

I have no idea how well the service department will be, but all indications are that they will be atleast good if not excellent..

Also for those contemplating a pilot...

1)The 08's are identical to the 07's but they are just jacked up in price. So if you can find an 07 jump on it
2)Your target price for an 08 should be atleast 4500-5000 under MSRP
3)The 09's are expected in March next year. So if you are willing to wait, then the 08's will be had at a better discount then.
4)The 09's are expected to also have a body/frame similar to the MDX - i.e a full redesign like the CRV had it last year.. So keep that in mind
5)There is a $1000 Honda to Dealer marketing promotion , try to utilize it to your advantage

So far I love these things about the pilot
    + Spacious
+ Intelligent Practical design, lots of storage & cupholders
+ All models have a 6 CD Changer + sub
    + Nice headlights
+ Decent Mileage (Avg about 20 City)
    + Lots of Power
+ TPMS and Maintenance Minder (even detects worn tires)

Not so great things (Remember I traded in a sports car (BMW) so my standards were a bit higher)
    - After driving my bimmer the Honda audio sounds weak and like a rental car
    - Initial quirks - The audio system did not work for 1 day and automatically started working by itself
    - Some roadnoise
    - Passenger has no power seats
    - No aux jack or ipod adapter yet

For those considering buying a Toyota - I thought that Toyota of Killeen was pretty good. Lance Smith the internet manager is a straight talker and offered 5k under MSRP for a 4Runner and a decent price for the trade. However my wife felt that the Pilot was more refined...

    Finally,
This forum has been very helpful, so thanks a lot.... If you do want to contact me with questions on the car or anything else, my email id is my forum user name AT gmail dot com

And for those thinking Matchan's experience was a one time event, I can tell you we had about $1700 of add-ons put on our Pilot. While it was being worked, we drove a brand new (17 miles) Honda Accord no questions asked. Chris Bond met us half way as well. Since we live in New Braunfels and work at Randolph AFB, he brought the rental to us and then brought our car back to us at RAFB. Gunn is very much out of the way for us but if and when we need a new Honda, that is where we will head. They have earned our follow-on business

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

My wife and I just started looking at vehicles, for her. I really wanted her to get another minivan (we have an '03 Town and Country but it's fairly basic, she's tired of it, and it's not AWD and doesn't have traction control - we just moved to MN so that's a must for us), but she says she's tired of minivans and only wants an SUV. So an SUV it is. We'd like to keep our final price between $25,000 - $32,000, before TTL. Today we test drove a Highlander, Explorer and a Pilot. For a variety of reasons we decided on the Pilot EXL-AWD w/out navigation. A few questions...

    1) Post # 10037 says they paid $29,300 for an EXL-AWD with navigation for $29,300. On Kelley Blue Book it states that the invoice for an EXL-AWD w/out navigation is $32,362. So I'm confused. How can you ADD navigation (about a $2k option?) and yet get the vehicle for ~$5k less than "invoice"? Are the dealers in AZ that desperate to get rid of them? Is $6k less than invoice typical? Or is Kelley Blue Book invoice amount incorrect?

    2) Does anyone have a link to pictures of what the '09 Pilot will look like? All I've been able to find on the internet are pics of a "shrouded" Pilot. While I'd like to wait around till it comes out I'm a little nervous because our T&C handles poorly in snow. With my wife driving around w/the kids, in Minnesota, I think I'd like to get one sooner rather than later.

    3) Does anyone know what the retail price might be on the '09's?

    Thanks!

I checked out the fightingchance.com website today. Can you tell me if you felt this information was worth it, relative to what you can find on the web? It seems like a person can easily email dozens (or hundreds) of dealers in a radius to get competitive bids on a vehicle - does it really matter what you know in advance?
  • biglou13biglou13 Member Posts: 17
I used the fightingchance to purchase my wife 07 Pilot. The book is better then the informatin from the website .If you buy the book and use Consumers Report car buying guide you will be a little better off . I was very uccessful with the fax method rather then the email method my friend used.Basically do your research on this site of what dealers are offering the best deals .Usually its going come down to a couple of dealers.

Matchan. Very nice and wise comments for future buyers of Pilots. I am considering purchasing a pilot early next year. I am a very diligent buyer and my wife and I have decided for the pilot after trying and driving a few SUV's. Acadia was tempting but the GM name turned us off since we currently own a chevy and we were not happy with the quality

Negotiated a price of 30,300 for a 08 EX L w/ Nav2 wh drive thru the Internet manager. Price was honored with ZERO hassles when the friend went to the dealership (Pompano Honda) to make the purchase. That price did not include Taxes and tags..
  • huanhuan Member Posts: 2
Yesterday went to the local dealer and they have a pre-owned 07' EXL (already 19K miles). tested drive and feels great. they offered 7 years/100K miles powertrain warranty. The guy showed me bluebook value of $30K plus, and I offered him 20K. he said at least 25K. I walked away.Today (12/01) the dealer left me a voicemail saying have a good price for me.
What price do you guys suggest would be reasonable? thanks.

I bought a brand new 2007 Pilot 4WD EX-L with Navigation and running boards for $30,200 before tax in September 2007. I bought it from Honda Cars of Corona in Corona, California. A used one with 19,000 miles on it should not sell for more than $10,000 less than a brand new model. Do not buy formore than $20,000.
  • fatihfatih Member Posts: 1
Paid: $28,396+$635 (freight)+$100 (Dealer Processing Fee)
    Tax, Tag, Total: 30,159.42

Purchased HondaCare 120K or 8 year from www.myhondawarranty.com. Also I could purchase from www.hondawarrantyinfo.com

Paid additional $1500 (parts+labor) for accessories to the dealer
    Auto Day/Night Mirror,Black All-Season Floor Mats,Cargo Cover,Cargo Tray, Running Boards

    Honda or Highlander:
I refused buying and driving SUV up until now. Still resisting driving the new one. But due to family needs and not wanting to drive a Mini Van, this was the best choice.
I really liked Toyota 2008 Highlander Limited Edition (LE) first. But I felt Toyota is too big and too busy with too many buyers. Not much personal/professional “touch”. Also waited almost 4 months but especially 2008 Highlander LE was in shortage. Comparable 2008 Highlander LE with Entertainment System would be about $39 K. I test drove both 2008 Highlander and 2008 Pilot.
I personally felt Pilot was better built, low-profile, refined and robust; yet Highlander certainly look newly designed with technology etc. But I like Pilot’s road handling. For my taste, Highlander was too “mushy” compare to Pilot. I felt Pilot has little bumpier ride and more road noise. Highlander has active noise cancellation. Yet, Pilot has both 4WD and AWD. Highlander has only AWD.

Hi -- Just read this post since my husband and I are looking for exactly the car you bought. Can you tell me the dealership you got it from? We also live in Southern California and are excited to hear that there may be deals to be made.

Just picked up an Honda Pilot 4x4 EX-L in nimbus grey (the colour I wanted) in Southern CA. Paid 27,600 which included everything and a whole bunch of goodies. I'm having it shipped from CA to MN ($900 including insurance), becasue there were NONE in area... or surrounding states. So far the internet sales team has been awesome, I'll keep you posted when it arrives in about 2-3 weeks. I know they have a few more, but they are going fast.

Hello all - thanks for all the knowledge.

I am planning on leasing an '08 Pilot VP - 4WD with 15k miles/year and $0 down. I will be paying first month's payment upon pickup of the car. $380/month is the final negotiated price. Is there any reason I shouldn't jump on this?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. This is in New Jersey, if that makes any difference.

    Hi everybody!

I was offered a 2008 Honda Pilot VP (AWD) for $27, 500 out the door price. I would like to know if this is a good price at this time of the year and also taking in consideration that the 2009 model is around the corner.

Any input would be very appreciated.

    Thanks!!!
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
2008 Honda Pilot VP (AWD) for $27, 500 OTD is vague, what is the price minus taxes etc, does the state you reside in have taxes?

If you could supply the price of the car minus taxes, fee, plates etc then we can determine if the price is good.

    MSRP $29,630.00

    Invoice $26,895.87
  • randy34randy34 Member Posts: 6
    Hi kderobertis,

    Thank you for your response.
The price of the 2008 Honda Pilot VP (AWD) minus taxes, fee, plates etc is $25,441.33
I went to the dealer today and including taxes, fee, plates etc they are going to sell it to me for $27,400.00

I hope this information is enough for you to help me with your advise.

    Thank you!!!
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
The invoice for the 2008 Honda Pilot VP (AWD) is $26,895.87 and there is currently a $1,000 dealer incentive until I believe end-of-year, so that comes to $25,895.87.

So your getting it for $450 below dealer invoice.... I have seen fellow member do better. Does your price include destination charges? From what I read on the forum the VP model seems to be discounted the most of all the Pilot models.
  • pbs0626pbs0626 Member Posts: 18
    Hi znewman,

Could you give me details of your transaction and where you are located. That sounds like a great deal. Was it a lease or purchase?
    Thanks,

  • randy34randy34 Member Posts: 6
    Hi kderobertis,

The price that they are giving me does include the destination charges.
What do you mean by the VP model being discontinued. The VP model started on 2008 to my understanding to replace the LX model.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

This is the first itme I am buying a new car. I just got an price quote for 08 PIlot EX-L-Res at 29,300. The price includes destination charge. Title Registration and Taxes not included. The dealer will throw in some accesories that I have not decided. Is that a good price or is there room for more negotiation?
    Thanks.
  • houstonpilot08houstonpilot08 Member Posts: 1
After talking with nine dealerships in Houston for a week, I finally purchased a 2008 Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD (no NAV/RES) for $27,956 + $1,747 (6.25% tax in TX) + $252 (fees) for total drive-out of $29,956. It was a silver with sealant package, front window tint and protection package (which includes mud guards, wheel locks, cargo tray). The extra juice in the deal is that we got Honda's 2.9% three-year financing, which I valued at ~$900 (NPV of payments at 2.9% rate versus a "market" 4.9% financing rate, discounted at 4%).

Thanks to this great forum in getting me caught up to speed on market prices. I targeted a fellow poster's $27,500 + TTL but just couldn't get there. However, I think the sealant package (for whatever it's worth) and the financing promotion got me comfortable enough to pull the trigger though...
