Huggins - $28,000
These prices are for the 2008 Pilot EX-L 2WD with no added accessories. Still waiting to get pricing from Vandergriff and Bankston. Keep in mind that the dealer is getting a $1,000 incentive from the factory, so the prices are about $300 - $600 under invoice. I would like to hear if anyone has done better.
The money factor and residual is pretty good as well, so if you are considering leasing, it looks like you could get in with zero money down for around $400 a month (total payment)
Question - what was the method to your madness to get those quotes? Call? Email? Go in person and grind on them? Not trying to steal your deal or anything but I might use those figures here in Austin to try and leverage these guys.
Not worried about you stealing the deal, I'm sure this deal is available for anyone....maybe many folks here in the DFW area are not buying Pilots, or maybe they are waiting for the redesign next Spring. There are lots of Honda dealers in the metroplex, so competition might be stronger, plus maybe they are trying to meet sales goals.
I have heard the end of October and December are good times to buy a vehicle.
I just e-mailed several dealers asking for their best price for the model I wanted. I am buying the vehicle so if they want to close the deal, I figure they will do what it takes price wise to get it done.
Let me know how it works out for you and I will let you know what happens with my deal.
Did you get your quote via email, in person?
Are these good prices or do you guys think I have room to negotiate? Is there a better time of year to buy Honda Pilots? I am on the fence whether or not I want to purchase now or try to wait until interest rates go down.
I still believe there is better pricing out there.
A friend of mine bought the EXL DVD Honda Odyessy for around 25K to 26k when the new model came out. I should have waited myself but couldn't resist the incentive.
When did you purchase? Is yours a 2007 or 2008? Did your vehicle include any extra accessories? Is your price based on receiving any incentives (i.e. the $3,500 you mentioned). Would you mind e-mailing or posting the full deal on here?
I am looking to purchase an 08 Pilot EX-L 2WD at the end of the month using the fightingchance.com technique. I have already e-mailed with a few dealers and have received the following:
$27,500 plus TT+L, plus any accessories.
$26,686 plus TT+L, plus any accessories. This dealer is claiming all of their Honda cars have LoJack for $800 and they can't "take it off". I said BS to that and told him I guess I won't be doing business with him. He also said I have to pay for something called "digishield" which is like $500 and it is a clear-coat to protect your paint. I again raised the BS flag on that, and told him I am not paying for $1,300 worth of items I don't need, nor does anyone else want. Waiting to hear back.
I have yet to have one Honda dealer mention LoJack or digishield.
It does seem however, that many, if not all Pilots already have some of the accessories added such as the "pro pack", whatever that is, sunroof visor, pinstripe, wheel locks, etc..
I would just like to get the vehicle without any of these added on accessories.
I do know that Honda is giving the dealer a $1,000 incentive through 10/31 on the Pilot. I think I can do better than what I have been offered so far and am hoping by launching my e-mail attack on the 29th (which is a Monday), that by the 31st I can land the deal I want.
Regards,
Dirty Dogs
In August/Sept there was a $3,500 incentive on 2007 Pilots, which is no longer available, pushing out the 2007's for the arrival of the 2008's.
I happen to miss this great opportunity, but hoping for something to happen soon.
Also, would like to see the specs on the 2009, to see if it's worth the wait, but usually I hold off on redesigns until the second year.
Any suggestions for the rest of us?
Overall experience was pretty good - did it through their website contact form (this was the only way I got responses from any dealer - emailing directly didn't work). The finance guy pushed the extended warranty pretty hard and is giving me through Monday to decide at the price we came to - $1500 for the 8yrs/120k miles for $0 deduct.
What are everyone's thoughts on the extended warranties? I think we'll drive the car for 8 yrs so I'm leaning towards buying it.
Incidentally we put $5k down and got an interest rate of 5.84% through Honda. Our credit is excellent (if I do say so myself
Consumers Reports says not to buy the extended waranty for a vehicle with a "good" or "better than average" reliability rating which the Pilot has. My wife has a 2000 Honda Odyssey which will be 8 years old in December (approx 70K miles)and spent less than $ 50 in repairs, except for maintenance items such as tires, brakes and oil changes.
That says something for reliability, IMHO.

I think you got ripped. I am buying the same exact Pilot you purchased this week and I already have multiple dealerships here in the DFW area who will sell me the vehicle for $27,500 (including destination charge) plus Accessories, plus TT+L.
Invoice for this vehicle is around $29,700...and the dealer is getting a $1,000 rebate from the manufacturer...so the true invoice price for this car is actually $28,700. It also looks like you paid full retail for your accessories.
I called several dealers and asked for the parts/service department to get the prices for accessories. For example, the PRO PACK (which is the rear splash guards, wheel locks and cargo tray) can be had for $250 - $300 installed, yet the dealer will try and charge you upwards of $600 for this package.
My goal is to get the Pilot, with the PRO PACK for around $27,800 or less, plus TT+L.
You really should have done more research....plus, it is the end of the month, and some dealers may be willing to deal more to make a sale and achieve a sales goal/bonus.
Additionally, Pilot sales are off this year, and you should have highlighted this to the dealer as well.

P.S. I don't think your finance rate is bad...the best I can get through my credit union (which always seems to have the best rates on auto loans) is 5.75% with direct deposit. I also have stellar credit and that is the lowest rate going.
Which DFW dealership are you dealing with? I'm looking to pick-up a pilot asap.
Good luck

has any1 come across best deal than this, if so please respond to my email with deal info. Since holiday deals are coming up in coming months is it beter to wait for another few days?
We bought a white/w tan leather 2008 Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD with no nav. or res. for $27,800 plus TT+L. This price included the Protection Package and front window tint. I figure this price was about $1,300 - $1,500 below invoice when you factor in the $1,000 manufacturer to dealer cash being offered through 10/31.
The total out the door price including TT+L was $29,778.
We bought it from Honda Cars of McKinney and dealt with Elbony Beasley. I launched my e-mail attack this morning and she was one of the dealers that responded. She phoned me and after we talked I made an offer. After a few back and forths we agreed on the sale price I listed above. The whole process at the dealership took less than two hours.
Some advice for those of you getting ready to purchase. Call service departments for a handful of dealerships and tell them you have an 08 Pilot. Ask for the price of any accessories you are thinking about getting on your Pilot, or that you know dealers add, such as the ProPackage. I called four dealerships and found that I could get the ProPackage installed (including the parts) for around $225-$300, much less than they try and add to the price of the vehicle when you are purchasing it. That is some big leverage that can save you hundreds when you do purchase.
One thing that ticked me off was some dealers gave me the "bring us your best offer in writing" routine and they would beat it. Any dealer that told me that, I told them either you are serious about selling me a Pilot or you are not. If you want my business, give me an offer or I won't be doing business with you.
After I got home, I checked my inbox and their was an e-mail from the internet manager at McDavid Honda in Irving (I have e-mailed with him over the past week regading pricing of the vehicle) telling me, "not to be too embarrassed to come see him when it turns out my deal at Honda of McKinnery would have hidden charges in there" and that "they were losing 2k on the deal if they were selling me the Pilot with the ProPackage and tint for $27,800".
I just sent an e-mail telling him to not be too embarrassed the next time I buy a vehicle by giving me a fair price from the start and not playing the "bring me your best offer" game.
All in all, about the only thing I can say is do your research. See what people are paying and I recommend using the Fighting Chance package. I don't know if it made a huge deal, but it did offer some good information.
This is a good deal today in my opinion, but who knows next month or in December or next year when the 2009's come out. I have a lease expiring at the end of the month, so I did have to get a new vehicle.

thanks!
FM included the $1000 incentive that ends 10/31.
So here are the questions:
Does that sound like a good deal?
Will I be better waiting until end of Nov or Dec?
I don't own a crystal ball, so I don't know what their incentives will be in Nov/Dec. Any thoughts?
Thanks
I was wondering if you can share with me which dealer give you the quota?
Thanks!
Thanks a lot!
Bob
I've seen some amazing purchase prices here in the last few posts from mid-October & have to wonder a couple of things:
1) I just checked the Manufacturer-to-Dealer Incentive page on Edmunds again, and it says that there are no incentives available in my area. I also checked the incentives for the DFW & Georgia area & it also says no incentives. Where have you seen this incentive "officially" announced?
2) My recollection from years past is that the TMV pretty much matched what folks were paying (less any incentives), but from the posts that I've been seeing, people are getting prices perhaps $1000 under invoice+dealer incentive. Has that become normal these days?
3) Odd, but I can't find what makes up the accessory "Protection Package" & "All Season Protection Package" documented anywhere on Honda's website. Can someone tell me what they include?
4) Does the trailer hitch option really only include just the trailer hitch for MSRP $876? What's different between it vs (say) a U-Haul trailer hitch?
Thanks for any help,
Neil
The fighting chance package is something you can purchase online that gives you up to date pricing information, incentive information, sales information, and how to implement their buying/leasing technique. Cost is $39 for information on one vehicle (includes all trim levels) and then $10 for additional vechicles. It was worth the price.
There is also a $1,000 manufacturer-to-dealer incentive through 10/31, so you need to lop another $1,000 off of your $30,029 price.
The lease numbers for the EX-L AWD are .00121 for the money factor and 55% for the residual. These are good numbers if you can get the sale price down. For the 2WD model, the residual is only 50%. The lease numbers are good through 10/31....don't know what will happen in November.
We bought from Honda Cars of McKinney (dealt with Elbony Beasley) and my best guess is that we paid around $1,300 - $1,500 below invoice. Our vehicle included the Protection Package (mud guards, wheel locks, cargo tray) and front window tint.
Total price was $27,800 plus TT+L.

Not sure what information Consumer Reports provides in addition to the pricing, but fighting chance gives you sales statistics for the vehicle(s) you are intersted in as well as reports from their customers as to how much they have actually paid for the vehicle, which is important to know.
Also, the best time to buy is the last few days of the month as many dealers have sales goals they are trying to beat, and they may be more willing to make a deal then if it means making their goal/bonus.
Let us know when you get the vehicle how it worked out price wise.

I am in the market for an 08 EX FWD in the Austin area. Austin dealers give me lousy pricing, so I don't mind going over to San Antonio or DFW.
My questions
1) As of Nov 1 , what is the target price I should be looking for ? 2k under edmund's invoice price ?
2) Is a tradein worth it or should I try to sell independently ? Any good DFW dealers offering a competitive tradein?
Thanks a lot for a very useful forum
Someone knows if they are going to increase this to $3500?
