dirtydogs, I'd love to know who you got those quotes from in DFW too. I'm in Austin but would be willing to make a weekend trip north to save some $$$.
  • dirtydogsdirtydogs Member Posts: 12
David McDavid in Irving - $28,313

    Huggins - $28,000

These prices are for the 2008 Pilot EX-L 2WD with no added accessories. Still waiting to get pricing from Vandergriff and Bankston. Keep in mind that the dealer is getting a $1,000 incentive from the factory, so the prices are about $300 - $600 under invoice. I would like to hear if anyone has done better.

The money factor and residual is pretty good as well, so if you are considering leasing, it looks like you could get in with zero money down for around $400 a month (total payment)
  • sethwallissethwallis Member Posts: 10
DD - thanks that is exactly what I'm looking for...EXL 2WD no nav, no DVD (may add towing pkg). I'd personally consider $300-$600 under invoice pretty good.

Question - what was the method to your madness to get those quotes? Call? Email? Go in person and grind on them? Not trying to steal your deal or anything but I might use those figures here in Austin to try and leverage these guys.
  • dirtydogsdirtydogs Member Posts: 12
    Hey Seth,

Not worried about you stealing the deal, I'm sure this deal is available for anyone....maybe many folks here in the DFW area are not buying Pilots, or maybe they are waiting for the redesign next Spring. There are lots of Honda dealers in the metroplex, so competition might be stronger, plus maybe they are trying to meet sales goals.

I have heard the end of October and December are good times to buy a vehicle.

I just e-mailed several dealers asking for their best price for the model I wanted. I am buying the vehicle so if they want to close the deal, I figure they will do what it takes price wise to get it done.

Let me know how it works out for you and I will let you know what happens with my deal.

I have been quoted a figure of $30,698 for a 2WD EX-L/Nav plus TT&L. Anyone in the San Antonio/Austin area do any better?? The vehicle is on Gunn's lot and they seem eager to do a deal.
  • sethwallissethwallis Member Posts: 10
kpaulini - I just contacted Gunn through their website. Not looking for Nav but I'll post what they quote anyway.

Did you get your quote via email, in person?
  • sethwallissethwallis Member Posts: 10
Gunn quoted me $30,490 total for 2WD EX-L with towing pkg ($1009) and roof cross bar rails ($205). Not sure if that's with TT&L but I'm assuming its not.
  • kpaulinikpaulini Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the info. I had put an inquiry in for a Net quote and then got called in person. The guy went into the dealeship after hours last night to make sure he had the one I wanted. So far so good but there are other delaerships much closer to home (New Braunfels) that would make life easier. I have purchased three Honda's from Gillman in the past but heir GM, Rasool, has departed for LA. I am going tonight so I will update after I either buy or pass on it.

Just signed the paperwork last night for a EX-L 4WD; sales price $30,305.00 or $23 over invoice, plus a documentation fee of $75.00. So a total of $98 over invoice. Destination fee of $635, illinois tax and plate transfer.
  • shopping4apiloshopping4apilo Member Posts: 3
    I was quoted $30,405 for 2008 Pilot 4WD EX-L and $32,377 including destination for EX-L 4WD with Nav in PA/NJ area.

Are these good prices or do you guys think I have room to negotiate? Is there a better time of year to buy Honda Pilots? I am on the fence whether or not I want to purchase now or try to wait until interest rates go down.
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
I was quoted $31,715 (incl dest.) for a 2008 Honda Pilot EXL AWD w/Nav on Long Island.

I still believe there is better pricing out there.
  • jyuen9jyuen9 Member Posts: 14
The 2007 Pilot is exactly the same as the 2008 Pilot and in July 2007, there was a factory incentive of $3,500.00. Why is it that you guys now is looking to buy the Pilot at such a higher price. I bought mine at BurnsHonda in Marlton, New Jersey at $26,751 including destinaton for a EXL 4WD. I would wait a until around the middle of 2008 when the new Pilot comes out, you will probably get the same or better incentive that came out this past July. Trust me it is worth the wait.
A friend of mine bought the EXL DVD Honda Odyessy for around 25K to 26k when the new model came out. I should have waited myself but couldn't resist the incentive.
  • dirtydogsdirtydogs Member Posts: 12
    Jyuen,

When did you purchase? Is yours a 2007 or 2008? Did your vehicle include any extra accessories? Is your price based on receiving any incentives (i.e. the $3,500 you mentioned). Would you mind e-mailing or posting the full deal on here?

I am looking to purchase an 08 Pilot EX-L 2WD at the end of the month using the fightingchance.com technique. I have already e-mailed with a few dealers and have received the following:

$27,500 plus TT+L, plus any accessories.

$26,686 plus TT+L, plus any accessories. This dealer is claiming all of their Honda cars have LoJack for $800 and they can't "take it off". I said BS to that and told him I guess I won't be doing business with him. He also said I have to pay for something called "digishield" which is like $500 and it is a clear-coat to protect your paint. I again raised the BS flag on that, and told him I am not paying for $1,300 worth of items I don't need, nor does anyone else want. Waiting to hear back.

I have yet to have one Honda dealer mention LoJack or digishield.

It does seem however, that many, if not all Pilots already have some of the accessories added such as the "pro pack", whatever that is, sunroof visor, pinstripe, wheel locks, etc..

I would just like to get the vehicle without any of these added on accessories.

I do know that Honda is giving the dealer a $1,000 incentive through 10/31 on the Pilot. I think I can do better than what I have been offered so far and am hoping by launching my e-mail attack on the 29th (which is a Monday), that by the 31st I can land the deal I want.

    Regards,

    Dirty Dogs

I totally agree, that 2007 & 2008 really no changes (why pay more), but not everyone could wait the 6 - 8 months for the deep incentives to kick in.
  • kderobertiskderobertis Member Posts: 82
    Dirty Dogs,

In August/Sept there was a $3,500 incentive on 2007 Pilots, which is no longer available, pushing out the 2007's for the arrival of the 2008's.

I happen to miss this great opportunity, but hoping for something to happen soon.

Also, would like to see the specs on the 2009, to see if it's worth the wait, but usually I hold off on redesigns until the second year.

I purchased our new Honda Pilot EX-L W/Nav last night from Gunn in San Antonio. The final price was $30,698 plus TT&L. Chris, the Internet manager, was fantastic. Didn't push anything. We got exactly the value on our trade-in that we were hoping for without telling them what we wanted. The process was smooth and we were impressed. I highly recommend Gunn. We added the Gold package, 7 year leather, floor mat and paint protection, window tint, door edge molding, and the wood trim package as well. Since we purchased 5 additions, we got another 10% off of those. With TT&L, trade-in, and accessories, we walked out the door at $29359.25.

Did you purchase 2WD or 4WD?
  • kpaulinikpaulini Member Posts: 7
2 WD. Sorry, I should have mentioned that!!
  • shopping4apiloshopping4apilo Member Posts: 3
How did you negotiate that deal?
Any suggestions for the rest of us?
  • sethwallissethwallis Member Posts: 10
Finalized my deal last night at Classic in Round Rock, TX (suburb north of Austin). Details: 2WD EX-L at $29,290 (no Nav, no DVD & before TT&L) I added the towing pkg for $1191 and roof rack crossbars for $242. Also got them to throw in tinting the front two windows and rear mud flaps (whoopie).

Overall experience was pretty good - did it through their website contact form (this was the only way I got responses from any dealer - emailing directly didn't work). The finance guy pushed the extended warranty pretty hard and is giving me through Monday to decide at the price we came to - $1500 for the 8yrs/120k miles for $0 deduct.

What are everyone's thoughts on the extended warranties? I think we'll drive the car for 8 yrs so I'm leaning towards buying it.

Incidentally we put $5k down and got an interest rate of 5.84% through Honda. Our credit is excellent (if I do say so myself :) ) but not overly impressed with the 5.84%. What are y'alls thoughts on that?
  • eadlertxeadlertx Member Posts: 20
sethwallis, did your $29,290 price include the towing pkg and roof rack crossbars? I assume it included freight.
Consumers Reports says not to buy the extended waranty for a vehicle with a "good" or "better than average" reliability rating which the Pilot has. My wife has a 2000 Honda Odyssey which will be 8 years old in December (approx 70K miles)and spent less than $ 50 in repairs, except for maintenance items such as tires, brakes and oil changes.
That says something for reliability, IMHO.

    Seth,

I think you got ripped. I am buying the same exact Pilot you purchased this week and I already have multiple dealerships here in the DFW area who will sell me the vehicle for $27,500 (including destination charge) plus Accessories, plus TT+L.

Invoice for this vehicle is around $29,700...and the dealer is getting a $1,000 rebate from the manufacturer...so the true invoice price for this car is actually $28,700. It also looks like you paid full retail for your accessories.

I called several dealers and asked for the parts/service department to get the prices for accessories. For example, the PRO PACK (which is the rear splash guards, wheel locks and cargo tray) can be had for $250 - $300 installed, yet the dealer will try and charge you upwards of $600 for this package.

My goal is to get the Pilot, with the PRO PACK for around $27,800 or less, plus TT+L.

You really should have done more research....plus, it is the end of the month, and some dealers may be willing to deal more to make a sale and achieve a sales goal/bonus.

Additionally, Pilot sales are off this year, and you should have highlighted this to the dealer as well.

    Regards,

    Dirty Dogs

P.S. I don't think your finance rate is bad...the best I can get through my credit union (which always seems to have the best rates on auto loans) is 5.75% with direct deposit. I also have stellar credit and that is the lowest rate going.

    Dirty Dogs,

Which DFW dealership are you dealing with? I'm looking to pick-up a pilot asap.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
The pilot is usually introed in august of a model year. They usually blow out the previous model year for about 7000+ off msrp. You want about an $3800-4500+ off msrp (or equivalent financing) for the first half of the model year. Nobody is killing themselves to get vehicles in the 20mpg segment without heavy incentives.

    Good luck

Willing to buy 2007 Pilot EX L w/ RES. Can anyone tell me what I should pay for 2007 and 2008? Not sure if it's worth getting O8. Thanks.

I am in San Jose and has been in touch with many dealers for Honda Pilot EXL 4WD, the best quote I've got for 2008 model is 29500/- includes dest (only tax and lic xtra) This includes $1k rebate/discount announced recently and everyone is ready to offer. This is the best deal I could hear so far.
has any1 come across best deal than this, if so please respond to my email with deal info. Since holiday deals are coming up in coming months is it beter to wait for another few days?
  • vistabluestangvistabluestang Member Posts: 14
Yeah you are right. Unfortunately for me, by old SUV with 180,000 miles on it took a dump last week  . So I did not have time to wait for better incentives.

Okay, I just got home from the dealership after buying the Pilot and here is the scoop:

We bought a white/w tan leather 2008 Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD with no nav. or res. for $27,800 plus TT+L. This price included the Protection Package and front window tint. I figure this price was about $1,300 - $1,500 below invoice when you factor in the $1,000 manufacturer to dealer cash being offered through 10/31.

The total out the door price including TT+L was $29,778.

We bought it from Honda Cars of McKinney and dealt with Elbony Beasley. I launched my e-mail attack this morning and she was one of the dealers that responded. She phoned me and after we talked I made an offer. After a few back and forths we agreed on the sale price I listed above. The whole process at the dealership took less than two hours.

Some advice for those of you getting ready to purchase. Call service departments for a handful of dealerships and tell them you have an 08 Pilot. Ask for the price of any accessories you are thinking about getting on your Pilot, or that you know dealers add, such as the ProPackage. I called four dealerships and found that I could get the ProPackage installed (including the parts) for around $225-$300, much less than they try and add to the price of the vehicle when you are purchasing it. That is some big leverage that can save you hundreds when you do purchase.

One thing that ticked me off was some dealers gave me the "bring us your best offer in writing" routine and they would beat it. Any dealer that told me that, I told them either you are serious about selling me a Pilot or you are not. If you want my business, give me an offer or I won't be doing business with you.

After I got home, I checked my inbox and their was an e-mail from the internet manager at McDavid Honda in Irving (I have e-mailed with him over the past week regading pricing of the vehicle) telling me, "not to be too embarrassed to come see him when it turns out my deal at Honda of McKinnery would have hidden charges in there" and that "they were losing 2k on the deal if they were selling me the Pilot with the ProPackage and tint for $27,800".

I just sent an e-mail telling him to not be too embarrassed the next time I buy a vehicle by giving me a fair price from the start and not playing the "bring me your best offer" game.

All in all, about the only thing I can say is do your research. See what people are paying and I recommend using the Fighting Chance package. I don't know if it made a huge deal, but it did offer some good information.

This is a good deal today in my opinion, but who knows next month or in December or next year when the 2009's come out. I have a lease expiring at the end of the month, so I did have to get a new vehicle.

    Dirty Dogs

Looking to buy 08 Pilot EX-L AWD in Phoenix. Best quote so far from Fleet Manager is $29,874+TTL.

FM included the $1000 incentive that ends 10/31.

    So here are the questions:
Does that sound like a good deal?
Will I be better waiting until end of Nov or Dec?

I don't own a crystal ball, so I don't know what their incentives will be in Nov/Dec. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

dirtydogs: First, what is the "Fighting Chance Pkg?" I'm going to lease an 08 Pilot EX-L AWD w/Nav and while I live in Missouri, I've contacted dealers from Missouri to Texas and I'm awaiting their reply. Our son lives in Ft Worth and daughter in San Antonio so coming to Texas is no problem. I've also contacted a couple of leasing companies. Like you, I won't be "played with" regarding a dealer telling me to bring them my best quote and I tell them if you want my business then give me your best price--now. I use the Consumer Reports Car Buying Package--$39 for 3 months of unlimited price quotes--OUTSTANDING info!! Here's the breakdown for my Pilot: MSRP $36,280 Incl Dest Chg, Dealer Invoice $31,098 and Dealer Holdback is $1,069--so, $31098 minus the $1069 Holdback means the dealer actually pays $30,029 for the car. My goal is to get as close to the $30,029 price as I can. Once I get my "final" price lease deal I'll post it here in the Forum.

Hi folks, got a couple of quick questions for you on some of the quotes on this thread.

I've seen some amazing purchase prices here in the last few posts from mid-October & have to wonder a couple of things:

    1) I just checked the Manufacturer-to-Dealer Incentive page on Edmunds again, and it says that there are no incentives available in my area. I also checked the incentives for the DFW & Georgia area & it also says no incentives. Where have you seen this incentive "officially" announced?

    2) My recollection from years past is that the TMV pretty much matched what folks were paying (less any incentives), but from the posts that I've been seeing, people are getting prices perhaps $1000 under invoice+dealer incentive. Has that become normal these days?

    3) Odd, but I can't find what makes up the accessory "Protection Package" & "All Season Protection Package" documented anywhere on Honda's website. Can someone tell me what they include?

    4) Does the trailer hitch option really only include just the trailer hitch for MSRP $876? What's different between it vs (say) a U-Haul trailer hitch?

    Thanks for any help,
    Neil

    Hi Bob,

The fighting chance package is something you can purchase online that gives you up to date pricing information, incentive information, sales information, and how to implement their buying/leasing technique. Cost is $39 for information on one vehicle (includes all trim levels) and then $10 for additional vechicles. It was worth the price.

There is also a $1,000 manufacturer-to-dealer incentive through 10/31, so you need to lop another $1,000 off of your $30,029 price.

The lease numbers for the EX-L AWD are .00121 for the money factor and 55% for the residual. These are good numbers if you can get the sale price down. For the 2WD model, the residual is only 50%. The lease numbers are good through 10/31....don't know what will happen in November.

We bought from Honda Cars of McKinney (dealt with Elbony Beasley) and my best guess is that we paid around $1,300 - $1,500 below invoice. Our vehicle included the Protection Package (mud guards, wheel locks, cargo tray) and front window tint.

Total price was $27,800 plus TT+L.

    Regards,

    Dirty Dogs

DirtyDogs: the Consumer Reports Pricing Package is $39 for 3 months with "unlimited" vehicle pricing. Hope this helps and thanks for the info!
    Bob
  • dirtydogsdirtydogs Member Posts: 12
    Bob,

Not sure what information Consumer Reports provides in addition to the pricing, but fighting chance gives you sales statistics for the vehicle(s) you are intersted in as well as reports from their customers as to how much they have actually paid for the vehicle, which is important to know.

Also, the best time to buy is the last few days of the month as many dealers have sales goals they are trying to beat, and they may be more willing to make a deal then if it means making their goal/bonus.

Let us know when you get the vehicle how it worked out price wise.

    Regards,

    Dirty Dogs

    Hello
I am in the market for an 08 EX FWD in the Austin area. Austin dealers give me lousy pricing, so I don't mind going over to San Antonio or DFW.

    My questions
    1) As of Nov 1 , what is the target price I should be looking for ? 2k under edmund's invoice price ?
    2) Is a tradein worth it or should I try to sell independently ? Any good DFW dealers offering a competitive tradein?

Thanks a lot for a very useful forum

Purchased a new 08 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD with Nav and the accessories side steps etc. Paid an OTD price of $34500 which includes the accessories worth of 1500 and TTL/doc fee. Pretty pleased with the vehicle.

Thanks for posting your information, but as someone mentioned in a previous thread OTD (Out The Door) pricing has no value to other members, since taxes vary per state, some taxes have no taxes it's hard to gauge at what price you negotiated.

My husband & I just purchased a Pilot Ex 4WD 2007 for $5800.00 off sticker. You could probably go around 5gr off sticker for the 08 if you went with the cloth interior in an ex special edition they are usually the best deal. The 09`s are going to be released in early spring of 08. If you can wait until then you might end up with a much nicer vehicle. Best of luck to you.

I purchased a 2008 2WD EX/NAV 2 weeks ago. The price was $30698. This is from Gunn in San Antonio. One other place you might try is Honda of San Marcos. The deal at Gunn was easy and quick. Their internet guy is Chris Bond. easy to work with and gives straight answers. Hope this helps and good luck. I got the Mocha and added the gold package, door edge guards, pin striping, wood, and tinting.
