Even with my travel expenses, I saved over $2,000 from the best deal I could get around town (Richmond, VA). Everybody, if you have the time and want to save money, don't hesitate to go to Mike Pruitt. I know I won't buy a new Honda in the future without getting a quote from them. Good luck to everybody getting their new Pilots in '05 !!!
At this price I am not hoping for cream from the dealer. I got that price after days of negotiation with the dealer and knowledge from this forum. I would like to pass the discount to informed buyers and Edmund users, in the market for a Pilot. Comparable internet quotes when I was shopping around in NJ were up to $2000 more than what I paid. Thanks to this forum.
I don't want this dealer to stop passing discount due to peer pressure of the other NJ dealers (compition). This is the only reason why I am not posting the name of the dealer here.
In this global economy we deserve all the breaks that we can get. I will be happy to pass the same info to any serious buyer that request it via e-mail to pilotnj05@hotmail.com
So, by posting the name of the dealership that gave you a great price and a hassle-free sales experience, you are doing that dealership a favor! Please let us know where you bought your car, so that everyone can benefit.
Besides, we exist so members can exchange information on the boards. We don't intend to become a clearinghouse for e-mail exchange, and posting your address publicly can expose you to a lot of spam.

For those interested, Open Road Honda (NJ)has this for the week:
"special internet direct
selling price is $25123.00 INC DESTINATION & HANDLING. This quote
is good until 6PM Saturday, on vehicles in stock."
Don't know about EX's but you could inquire too!
Learned about this from pilotnj (thanks!)
Those interested can just shoot me an email and I will email you back the contact info.
Lots of Luck!
Now that you posted Open Road Honda name (invoice plus $300 NJ dealer), You should also post the name of the sales person and his desk and cell phone that I sent you via e-mail. I think rules of forum does not allow that, but if you make you e-mail public in you profile you can take over the social service work that I did for the last week.
There are more than 50 salesmen at the dealers. This really won't help serious buyers, till they know out of 50 who gives that price.
DO NOT POST OR E-MAIL MY REAL NAME TO ANYONE. I want to buy and get services for my Pilot at the dealer and don't want to be the markup breaker for them.

If you could take a look the the red lettered note on the reply section of the forum, or better yet see as follows:
"You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information" (Note: I only mentioned dealer name and price, not anything else)
I think some if not most of us are members here to benefit, good news like these are shared. Further, said dealear has indicated that I encourage those interested to know of this. I don't think I mentioned anything more that what you stated in your recent post that you gave information to me.
But if you prefer that these members go to you instead of emailing me, that is perfectly fine with me.
You posted the quote price of Invoice plus ZERO for 05 LX. The invoice on LX is $24,608 + $515 Destination = $25,123 (your quote price).
If this is true, Open Road is selling you at invoice price. You have my email address, please forward me the quote. I bought my LX at invoice plus $300 on 10/16/04. I think dealer has price protection for a month. I will claim $300 from them.
If this is not true then you are misguiding all of us on the forum here.
No dealer is selling 05 pilots at invoice and offering social service that you and me are offering.

I did the Pruitt Honda deal on the internet and they are offering the 2005 Pilot EX with navigation for $700 over dealer cost at $31,906.39 but I have a trade in (a 1999 Honda CRV) so I ma trying to get a local deal. I would appreciate any feedback on recent purchases of 2005 models and dealers name and price paid.
Thanks
Then when i said I want white color a fresh one arrived when I went to pick up with just 7 miles on it.. I paid 225 extra..bringing net cost to 33K
this happened at larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale
One dealer called me basically to tell me "you got to be joking to ask for that price" and i said it's not a joke
Don't pay $1000 over invoice on this car. If you did, you're not shopping around and doing your HW. I paid all cash for this car. I brought a blank check that i got approved for 3.3% from Capital 1/costco discount.
My Email is ljim63@gmail.com. Any help will be appreciated.
You got a great deal on 2005 Pilot EX and can you inform what options you got. I really appreciate if you break down the price.
Enjoy your SUV.
Thanks

Well, after almost 1.5 years of looking, I finally purchased a Pilot. It's a 2005 EX with leather. I was having a really hard time because first I couldn't decide between the Pilot, Murano, and Highlander; and then because I couldn't find a deal that I liked.
About a month ago, I finally decided to buy from MP Honda in Ohio. None of the dealers in MN were moving too much off the MSRP. After I told one of them about the price from MP, he said I better get my ticket to Ohio! Well I was about to purchase my airline ticket, but I was dreading the 12-hour drive back, plus the cheapest ticket from MN to Cleveland was about $250. Add to that the $100 Ohio fee and the $25 Ohio temp tags and that was putting a dent in my savings on the car!
I also went to a couple of local Honda dealers and I was very up front with them. Told them about the deals in NJ, CA, and OH. They were not interested in any deal like that. So, I was pretty close to getting my ticket for Cleveland, when I decided to make a last ditch effort at finding a closer deal. I looked up 16 Honda dealers in WI, IL, SD, ND, and IA - figuring any one of them would be much closer than Ohio. I got responses from several of them and the one from Sioux Falls,SD, was the cheapest at $30,309, which is even below MP Honda in Ohio. I was about to make the final deal, when I decided to call a couple of dealers that hadn't responded. I got a call back from a dealer in Fargo, ND and the salesperson asked what price they needed to beat. I gave them the price and they called me back in 10 minutes or so with a price of $29,558 including the rear splash guards (they also have a $149 doc fee which was already included in the price, so the actual price was below invoice!), for the color I wanted (steel Blue) and in stock! They also had another steel blue one with lots of additional chrome (side steps, mirror and bumper garnish, and exhaust tips) for $1300 more but I didn't want to pay that much. So, on Saturday, I made my cousin drive me to Fargo and I picked up the car. The drive took 3.5 hours each way (from St. Paul, MN) and the deal took less than an hour. They were great and the salesperson was very helpful through the whole deal - and absolutely no pressure for any additional stuff. I am happy with the car and with the deal I got. My salesperson did say they will give the same deal to any body else. So, look my profile up for my email address if you're interested in the name of the salesperson. Although, I am not sure how many people from outside of MN will drive/fly to Fargo to pick up a car. But for $1900 in savings, you'll never know.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their buying experiences on this board. I hope my experience also helps someone.

Internet Sales Manager
Vern Eide Honda (Sioux Falls, SD)
thanks
Got it from Ourisman Honda in Bethesda, MD. My original contact with them was through their website. Send me an email and I'll give you my internet salesman's contact information (there are several). Or you can take your chances and see who and what you can get (I suspect for various reason you'll do better with my guy). I'm not getting any commission or benefit from giving you this information, just payback for a year of lurking and gleaning all kinds great information.
Rest of the story (Sorry it's long but I gave you the important information already):
This whole odyssey started over a year ago when I first really expressed interest in purchasing a new vehicle. I couldn't decide whether I wanted a SUV, sporty coupe, or sporty sedan. My last two cars were '83 Celica GTS and a '94 Integra GSR (both purchased new) so the SUV route would be a major change. The list of possible vehicles (through the course of the year) was long, but high on it were the Pilot, Highlander, MDX, Acura TL, Accord coupe and most recently the '05 CR-V SE (after a recent test drive). For various reasons I decided to put it off till the end of '04 hoping I would get a good deal during the holiday season on an '05 or possibly an '04 MDX. For the last couple of months I've leaning heavily towards the SUV route every time a reasoned it out. So about three weeks ago I sent out quote requests to four local Honda dealers(leaning towards the Pilot, despite its family car looks, I figured I could Butch it up with some accessories). The dealers were Jim Coleman, College Park, Odonnel and Ourisman in Bethesda. There were more I was going to do but the earliest I expected to purchase was at the end of November. Coleman and College Park both quoted (very unofficial) $1000 off MSRP (same as last year). At that point it looked like I might go the Ohio or PA route despite the fact there were plenty of vehicles at the dealers (unlike last year at this time). Ourisman left a phone message of "invoice or possible below" for an '04. A couple day later I called the guy and got quote that $900 or so above invoice but he didn't sound definite. Well a week or so goes by during which time I visit Jim Coleman Honda and test drive the '05 Pilot EX-L and the '05 CR-V SE. Surpisingly, I'm very impressed with the CR-V (Pilot was great too). This has me thinking CR-V (hey Oil is over $50 barrel) but CR-V supply is still low. The saleslady (beautiful) informs me that they are trying to get $1500 over MSRP for the CR-V and thinks the $1000 below MSRP for Pilot (quoted to me over the phone from College Park) was the going rate however she adds everthing is negotiable. I leave hoping to be back at the end of November.
Now we get to the Ourisman Honda part of the story. After a round of golf Sunday Oct. 31 (last day of the month, important fact I believe) I eye a DarCars Nissan dealership and decide to to finally test drive a '04 Murano SE (love the exterior look). Test drive was great (I think it handles slightly better than the Pilot) but the interior dash is horrible. No I got the bug in me and head down to Ourisman to scope out the dealership (In a phone message the salesman said he would only be their until 2:00). I get their after 5:00 thinking its closed but its not. After mulling around a bit (small multilevel place in downtown Bethesda) and finally inquire about my salesman. He's there but busy. I ask to see the lot to see what's available. It turns out to be a not so impressive small multi-level garage. Eventually my sale guy show up. I introduce myself and inform him I'm just looking around and wanted make contact with so you could see I'm serious. He then informs me that its the end of month and the dealership and himself are short of sales for the month and today would be a good time to buy. I'm not interested until he says the magic $500 above invoice. I decide to take a chance and see what he'll work up on paper with an existing vehicle (thinking its all BS salesman tricks). It wasn't despite a trip to the manager (or substite for manager in my case since the real manager had gone home) which I thought was going to trigger the infamous manager gambit. He came back said it was OK'd and what was my decision (I hadn't said whether to go with the before he went looking for approval). After 30 second I said yes. Less than an hour later I was gone with the my new Pilot.
Overall experience was really good. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. They didn't play any games, no funny fees. Negotiations took about 5 minutes all together, which is great as I saved my time and kept my sanity
And now back to enjoying my Pilot
Maryland Taxes = $1,557.62,
Tags = $225.00,
so on the road and out the door I paid $32, 955.00.
I am a little ticked off, because I heard that Honda is coming out with updated map software in January for the 2005's and they said I would not get a complementary copy. The maps in my 2005 Pilot are at least two years old. I know this, because many of the developments in my area are over two years old and are not mapped out on the software in my 2005 Pilot nav system. I was thinking of complaining to Honda in January. Also, in the Nav instruction book it says it can be programmed using voice command. But this isn't true. Wonder if the newer 2005 models are going to get a voice activated Nav system?
OK so here's the problem, according to the Quick Start Guide my Nav is voice activated and the Pilot runs on 86 octane. In the Owners Manual my Pilot does not have a voice activated Nav and it runs on 91octane. I stopped by the dealer and they didn't know what was what. They said they would have to do some research and call me back. That was three days ago. A cursory look at the manuals has decreased my level of confidence in Honda exponentially. Honda is either lazy, not smart, or too cheap to spend a few dollars to have someone read the manuals on a $30K+ SUV to make sure they are accurate and correct and also to ensure that the dealers who sell the Pilot are also reading the manuals. It pretty sad when a dealer tells you that the headlights are not “auto off”, when all they had to do was read the manual and see that they are. Now I am concerned about what other problems are lurking that I have yet to discover.
I am gonna contact Honda today and try and get this resolved. I’ll keep you all updated.
"In the 2005 Pilot Owner’s Manual, on page 146 and on the Service Information Summary page, the fuel octane recommendation is incorrect. The correct recommendation is 86 octane or higher, not 91. Premium unleaded fuel is NOT needed in the 2005 Pilot except for towing in certain conditions.
In addition, the recommended engine oil on the Service Information Summary page should be “API premium grade 5W-20 detergent oil,” not “API Service SJ Energy Conserving oil, SAE 5W-20 viscosity.”
Please notify all current and prospective Pilot customers of this error. It will be corrected in the next printing of the owner’s manual"
I can't attest to seeing this issued correction personally but I'm using 87 octane.
