I have been looking for a honda pilot EXL for about a month now and the lowest quote is $29900. That was thru Costco pricing. I am from Oak Harbor and have been calling all dealers throughout the state. Most have been $30500. All are too high in my opinion. Have had 2 call backs after I told them I can't do business at that price. will be calling tonight. Good luck. Any info for me would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to thank everyone here for their help on my Honda Pilot purchase. Hooked up with Honda West in Las Vegas where I live...had exact color and model and sold a 2005 for invoice!!! $30,700(that includes destination) and $599 of dealer "stuff' including DMV registration(big deal here). Its and EX with DVD, etc. They had a silver one listed on there website last week at invoice and I see they have taken it off. I called them on it and they told me they "dont sell cars at invoice...$1,200 over." I told him I'd keep looking and he called back 15 minutes later and told me if I bought tonight to come pick it up. Incredible car for the money. here is there website...

    Good luck!!!

I am from Spokane and the best I have found is about $1,200 over invoice for 2005 Pilot EXL with Navigation. I do not think many deals in this state. Keep me informed on how you are doing.

    Try Gresham Honda in Portland,OR

Also try Griffith Honda at Dales/OR.

I got mine at $31,829 with about $200 of add-ons like: cross bar, mud guard, and etching - from Gresham Honda.

I hope this helps to bassett and franklw.

That price is way high. I suggest walking out. I am currently negotiating a price for an EXL at 29,400. I live in western WA and nobody wants to really make a deal. the best I got was 29900 through COSTCO at any Western WA dealer. I am probably going east to Wanachee to buy unless someone comes up with a better deal. This is not with the navigation system but..... good luck
  • bassettbassett Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the info. Right now I have a quote from Wanachee for 29,400+ TTL for the 2005 EXL. I agree nobody wants to make a deal in Western WA, there loss. Will probably go there in 5 days to pick it up if all goes well. Still waiting for 2-3 other dealers to call back to beat the offer. So far I have talked with no less that 8 dealers.

I purchased a 2005 EX-L yesterday for invoice less $500. I sent 4 emails out to dealerships last week and got 3 responses. The first two were quoting me Edmund's TMV and weren't willing to move. The last dealer sent me an email saying that they were having a weekend sale on all Honda's except the Oddyssey for $500 below invoice including destination.

The car I purchased had some dealer installed options (mud flaps, wheel locks, door edge guards, paint stripe and other). I added running boards and walked out the door with a $30k sales price.

Thanks for everyone who has posted. It was helpful to know to ignore my first 2 quotes.

    Frank,

How does this Honda World, Westminster deal sound?

Just finished having a face to face meeting with a SoCal dealer internet salesperson about the 2005 Honda Pilot EX lease promo good till 1/5/05.

Did not purchase, here is what was offered:

    36 month, 12000 miles/yr lease from Honda

    $27432.00= invoice+destination freight fee

    $595.00= acquisition fee

    No $1999.00 cap cost reduction

    No $350.00 security deposit

    money factor 0.00159

    $337.25/mon= pymt.(includes tax)

    $285.00= Lic, doc, etc. fees

$622.25= drive off or trade my 1993 Merc Sable Wgn

Note: Salesperson pointed out that this was a better deal than the 42 month promotion that requires you to pay registration for a year but you only get to use six months of it.

I was quoted by Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron, OH pretty much the same deal a few days ago. This seems to be the best deal I have seen out there on a cloth. They also quoted me a 05 EX-L for only 351.28 + usage tax with only 1st month & doc fee out the door. Maybe ask about the leather if you want the added sunroof & VSA system which only comes with the leather? Just a thought.

I bought a 2005 EX cloth, no nav/res last week at Anderson Honda in Baltimore. Paid $400 over invoice (or $100 under if you include the list price of $500 of dealer installed options which were included in the deal).

I had looked at a couple of 2004 leftovers but weren't exactly what I wanted and the DC-area dealers weren't offering much of a discount considering they were EOY models. One dealer wanted dealer invoice for a 2004 demo with 8k miles on it!.

Anderson was about the only area dealer with both MSRP and invoice on their web site so out of the blue I sent them an email inquiry. I got one quote (not exceptional) on an EX-L, so I responded by email with exactly what I was looking for and that I thought I could buy for a few hundred over invoice. In a second email Anderson quoted me the $400 over invoice price, delivered. The deal included the dealer items - wheel locks, pinstripes, edge guards, mudflaps (which they had as an add'l $500 dealer installed sticker). And, no surprises on extra required fees, etc. Got offered Ext warranty, Lojack, etc but no pressure to take them. Another dealer that I had contacted close to me (west of Columbia, MD) started at $1000 over invoice and came down $100 when I told them I could get a much better deal. I didn't check any VA dealers.

Overall a good experience at this dealer. And, A great SUV!

    They will thowing free:

    Wheel lock

    Running board

    Cargo tray

I'm trying to have them also include extended warranty for free, and that is a possible they can do

Here was the deal i bargained for an 2005 Pilot EX-L at Alexandria Honda (Alexandria, Virginia)

$31,670 out of the door (tax + tags included). I didn't know if this was a good price, so i walked out. Has anyone who purchased this SUV got a better price?
  • lsorensenlsorensen Member Posts: 10
    Did you purchase yet?

I live in Irvine and I spoke with Honda World in Westminister on 12/12 and got the same money factor on a lease.

Does anyone know what the lowest rate is on a purchase with no down?
  • franklwfranklw Member Posts: 47
I am not a lease expert but the deal sounds fair to me, not much money up front. Now can you keep it down to 12K/year with this new toy, what is the penalty for going over?
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
Fairfax Honda (Virginia) has quoted a price of 27400 for 2005 EX-L. It does not include tax & tags. That's almost 1500 below invoice.
  • dseekdseek Member Posts: 6
if you'r not kidding go, no, run and grab the deal.

    I paid 27450 for a '04 EX-L. It's a steal if one can get a '05 EX-L for 27400. That's almost 2K below most people pay these days.

I am happy to say that I bought a EX-L for $29,950 at the Bellevue dealership via the internet sales group. The car had just come in and did not have any dealer add-ons. I could have bought a car from the dealership in Burlington for a bit less but the drive outweighed the cost savings in the end. After looking thru the various prices paid I concluded that the average EX-L was being bought for $600 over invoice so I am satisfied with my deal. I also wanted to lock in my 3.95% loan from Watermark CU before the Fed raises the rates further this month. The price above includes destination and doc fees but does not include Tax and License. Good luck!
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
Dseek, I am not kidding. I got the quote today and still have the email (anyone needs it to be forwarded?). It is $27400. I am going to the dealership tomorrow.
  • dseekdseek Member Posts: 6
njtom, yes, please send me a copy. I have a friend in the market for a pilot. He lives in the NY area and I bet he will be happy to drive to VA if he can save 2 grands. Are you sure it's an EX-L, not just EX?
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
Absolutely sure about the quote. It's 2005 EXL. I double checked the price. Which address do i send it to?

If we didn't all have emails listed as private, we could send each other email without posting it in public forums.

mjtom, could you email me a copy please? My address is under my name. Thanks

Wow, that's amazing. I just paid $27600 + $279 doc fees on a 2004 EX-L in the last 2 weeks, in Memphis TN. I'd make sure any fees (destination charges, documentation fees, random dealer accessories etc) are rolled into that $27,400 before I went to the dealership!

I had a hard upper limit at $30k and TN state + county taxes were over $2k, so I just barely made it ($15 over actually). All of my 2005 EX-L quotes were significantly higher and thus not a consideration.

Perhaps you could forward me the bid, just to check it out? Send to njtom@SwPfAaMy.net minus the SPAM, thanks!

Before we all jump on the beltway and head down to Virginia, lets wait and hope that njtom gets the 2005 EX-L for that price when he walks into the showroom. Some dealers represent an incorrect quote thru e-mails on purpose. Then when u call or go in to verify they give you the old "Oh I that was for an '04" or "Oh you wanted the EX thought you said LX. An '05 for 2K under invoice seems highly unlikely to me. But njtom losses nothing by walking into the dealer with his printed quote
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
Absolutely! And especially if they know you are coming from a long way away. They know there is a very slim chance someone will come that far and leave without a vehicle over a couple hundred or more bucks.

It's called a lowball and some dealers will do this.

Sadly, the buyers will often cave in and buy from the store that lied to them.

    That's why they do this.
  • rodmansjurodmansju Member Posts: 4
I am persuing a 2005 Pilot, hopefully an EX-L, but would "settle" for an EX. I checked CarsDirect.com yesterday, and the price on the EX-L, minus tax/tags was 29,509.

I know the lease deals that are out there, in the 279-289 range are nice, but I would put too many miles on car to work a lease. Was offered a balloon payment option, at 18k miles per year, 1500 down, 329 a month for 42 months on what I think is going to be an EX (I've lost track on that one and asked for clarification).

Any thoughts on the best local dealer to Staten Island, to work with? I've already got feelers out to Mike Pruitt, as others have recommended...but they are slooooooowly responding.

Also, any experiences trading in an 01 Jeep Cherokee to a Honda dealer? do they tend to give good/decent/fair value?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
i suggest selling the cherokee on your own.

i also suggest emailing dealers local to you. someone on here just recently said they got all invoice prices from the NJ dealers they contacted.

True, and i replied in to his mail asking him the OTD price in reply to his email to confirm it's not just an autogenerated email and he quoted $29,1xx.xx. Also he quoted an EX-L with DVD - OTD = $31,2xx.xx. I am trying to get hold of the salesman and will update you guys. I need to get a verbal confirmation of that price before i walk into the dealership. All other dealerships around this area are quoting 1500 more.
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
Here is what i got back from Mike Simmons from Fairfax Honda, 11020 Main Street Fairfax, VA 22030 - 1-800-458-5042, after i left him a message asking him to confirm the price.

    --------

I just tried to call you and the operator said there was no ext 20. The price of the Pilot EXL that I had quoted was incorrect. The price that I gave you was for the EX model. The price of the EXL is $29,393.00. The OTD price is $31,207.80.

The price of the EXL/DVD is $30,741.00. The OTD price id $32,598.94.

Can you please forward it to me. Question, what state did you buy your Pilot, would it be different in Texas???

Know there are taxes and all but I notice that the OTD price is consistently about $2000 more than the sale price. What is running the price up so?
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
I got the same quote of 28,894.12 from 3 dealers. But the OTD price varied about $200. I asked one of the dealers to break it up. They are all in fairfax county, VA.

    Here is the break up

    28,894.12 (before tax)

       515.00 (destination charge)

       249.oo (processing fee)

922.37 (3.11% sales tax for VA)

       81.00 (2 yr tags+dmv+lean)

    --------------

     30661.49 (almost $1800 more)

I am not sure if they should be charging tax on the processing fee and destination charge.

One dealer threw a pen stripe + some other junkies and the other dealer offered 2 yrs oil change.

I am going to try and negotiate at least 500 off invoice and forget oil change. at $30 an oil change+filter, i will do max 8 changes in 2 yrs which is $240. So a $off will be a better bargain, i think.

Many dealers only seem to have Pilot EXs and others perhaps 1 or 2 LXs vs. 20-plus EXs on hand. What's the deal, is the LX model so unpopular? I think it's a great buy at $27.5-$28K.
  • dprosadprosa Member Posts: 17
    Hey rodmansju,

I had a great experience at Kay Honda in Eatontown (Easy to get to from Staten Island, right off the GSP) at the end of last month. I e-mailed all the dealers within 50 miles of my zip they all gave me the EX-L at invoice but Kay Honda gave me the most $$ for my Trade I told them that unless they gave my top dollar for my trade, I would just wait until I sold privately and buy from David Michael which is around the corner from my house. Their Internet sales staff is great, they wear sweatshirts and sneakers, no slickback hair or suits.

Let me know if you want a contact

If you want to know the trade - in range for your Jeep, go to carsdirect and go through their Trade-In link. Their quote will be very close to what the dealers will offer. Al the dealers use the same little book for whoesale trade in value. It is going to be way lower than what you wish you could get. If you have time/patience sell it on your own otherwise expect a big hurting in Tradein
  • dprosadprosa Member Posts: 17
I looked at the LX but the cloth interior looks very, very cheesy. I had a 95 accord LX till last month and I liked the 10 year old cloth Accord interior better. Besides the '05 EX-L with Leather, Sunroof, seat warmers, home link, tire pressure monitor, climate control is a great VALUE at $29 - 29400) I parked next to an '03 or '04 LX at home depot yesterday and there were some noticeably differences (Wheels, Body side moldings, sunroof), spoiler, etc
  • veri1veri1 Member Posts: 6
dobrown4...That was a heck of a deal. could you pls tell me who is that dealer. I am from norther VA. I would appreciate your response.
  • rodmansjurodmansju Member Posts: 4
would love a contact. I'm planning to take the wife to SI honda for a test drive tonight, but I dont expect to work any numbers tonight-unless there's a staggering offer. which I doubt.

As for the trade, I've used a couple different appraisal sites---carsdirect, i think, plus some from edmunds and the kelly blue book, along with a carcash ballpark. I had it around some jeep dealers, and got anywhere from 3k up to 5500, and some hyundai dealers assured me they would eat the remaining portion of my loan (6k). I'm not looking to cash in from it, as it's a high mileage, albeit well-maintained vehicle. I'd be happy to just break even, and early indicators tell me thats a fair possibility....though, I actually have seen dealers selling the same exact model, with more milage, for over 11k on the lot. I know that will be negotiated down, but even the average for it is pretty good.

    we shall see:)
  • dprosadprosa Member Posts: 17
Go to the SI dealer, test drive pick out a color, doubt you will get a decent offer from them cause they are a low volume dealer. Go to the Honda website -> locate a dealer and request a quote from 5 or 6 of them right from there. You can IM me at InvictusGladius or make ur e-mail public for a couple of hrs and I will send u the contact info at Kay to beat ur best off. We can't drop salesman names here. Good luck. I think the "end" of the month deals will be around the 22 cause the dealers will be very slow the last week of dec. You should easily get replies at or -200 below invoice

Currently received several quotes from local dealers in the Sacramento, CA Area. This is for a 2005 EX-L with no accessories.

Vacaville - $29955 (includes Destination Charge)

Carmichael - $29895 not sure if DC is included.

Roseville - $31,135 (includes Destination Charge)

I'm trying to get them to $29,004.01 but so far no one has accepted my offer. Anyone know if Honda will be coming out with any incentives once we get closer to the end of the year?
  • njgnjg Member Posts: 3
I recently leased EX-L in NJ from Open Road Honda, they offered me to buy it for $300 below the invoice.

I leased for 400 per month, put down 3K for all the fees, downpayment, first month payment.

that includes 15K miles per year.

    Lease is through American Honda.

    Good luck

    Hi everyone,

I got a quote of Pilot EXL for $29399. The dealer is in Iowa, I'm in Minnesota. Do I need to pay Iowa sales tax rate or I need to Minnesota sales tax rate?

    Thanks

    Joe
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
you pay zero tax in Iowa, then when you go to register the car in Minnesota, you will be required to pay Minnesota state sales tax.
