bought a '04 exl in early Dec for about $800 below invoice. $24K for a Pilot EXL? I would fight to get a deal. Even a '05 crv exl costs ~22K.

Thank you for posting. That is a good deal, I want to make sure that it is 05? Please let me know whom should I contact to purchase the Pilot.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the info - I too have been shopping multiple dealers in the DC area ( about 15) and this is the best price by $300! I just picked up my 05 EX-L at Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge. Same deal - 28632 base including freight - dealer processing was an extra 299. 2.9% financing.. With Virginia taxes tags and title out the door was 29877 - no surprises, no haggling at all. No pressure sales and decent selection on the lot.

The dealer indicated that this price will be valid until the 26th and is likely to increase by 300.

They offered extended warranty and rust proofing packages - I turned them down and they offered again with a really good price drop on the packages. I just didn't want them but if you do, I imagine that refusing them at first it will help your price. You can always come back ( I think within 30 days and get the packages).

Learned a few things from shopping around:

-- Internet sales are distinct from the floor sales in most dealerships. Many internet salespersons dont operate on commissions (just volume) so the floor sales people will haggle more and have greater flexibility than internet sales people... but they start at much much higher price and you may not get the best deal.

--Dealers price below invoice on certain models in order to earn the right to acquire additional vehicles from the manufacturer. This helps them grow in size but also will allows dealerships to acquire more profitable models ( i.e. selling more Pilot EX-Ls at a loss allows them to acquire more Odysseys that they can sell at a grand above invoice) If a dealer can't sell below invoice -they just can't sustain the hit on their overall profit and may not be interested in growth or you have a sales manger more concerned about profits than sales volume.

Hope this helps somebody. Even if you can afford MSRP shop around and donate the savings to charity. Thanks all.

( Hersons Honda in Rockville also had a good price quote online - 28750 base+515 freight+100 processing = 29365 minus taxes tags title)

    Hendrick Honda (800 below invlice)

    Woodbridge, VA

    Koon's Honda (500 below invoice)

    Manassas, VA

email me (my email is public) for getting the salesman's name at each of the dealerships. I cannot post the names as that is not allowed in this forum.
  • njtomnjtom Member Posts: 19
Good to know that you got the same deal as I did. I don't think any other dealership is giving a better deal than this.

I found out that the internet salesmen actually get a salary and not a commission. At koon's the salesman simply stopped the processing when I tried to go below the price which the dealership offered (which was 500 below invoice).

So, the internet search for car deals proved to be very effective. And I could actually use the quotes for the dealerships against each other and tried them to beat one another.

Surprisingly, I got a deal from Hernson (MD), which is still lying in my mailbox, which was 900 below invoice. But I had already bought my 05 pilot exl from Hendrick, Woodbridge, VA

Can anyone post prices paid in last week in SF Bay Area ?

I was quoted $500 under invoice from Anderson Honda (Menlo Park) over phone but they did'nt have the color we wanted. I went to our nearest dealer Autowest Honda (Fremont) and after a lot of back & forth was "sold" a EX-L for $30,200+Tax&Lic&Fees with the following options:

    1) Running board

    2) Mud Guard (listed on sticker, not installed)

    3) Cross Bars

    4) Wheel Locks

    5) Trunk Tray

When we were finished with the credit check etc and had even wrote out the check for down payment, I confirmed they were going to install the missing option when service dept was open on Monday. The Manager shocked both us and their own saleman by refusing to honor his part of the deal saying there wasn't any more room in the price to install the missing option ! We walked out after spending almost 3 hrs in the dealership... Were we getting too good of a deal ? Anybody else got a similar deal in recent days in SF Bay Area ?

We just bought an EX-L for 285XX from these guys.

I think you will find all of their Pilots have

wheel locks and ProPACK (tiny plastic strip around

the door edges and wheel wells), and they will

extract a few more dollars from you for that

(included in the above 28.5K) - the wheels locks

I can possibly use ($30?) the ProPACK is just a dealer

    PACK in my mind.

Even at 28.5K (including destination) the price

is good as far as I can tell. They have a decent

selection of colors and some with RES or NAV.

Several of their cars have chrome pasties and other bolt

    on profit devices.

It took them quite some time to process the paper-

work (I was surprised, half a day to buy a car

is not unreasonable, but that usually includes

price negotiation, half a day just to do the

paperwork is bit excessive. I guess they're not

    making big $$'s from volume.

Their normal doc fee is $45. While I do think

that's part of their cost of doing business I

can't really say it pushes their price out of the

    good range.

I can't effectively compare prices including

    various state taxes/fees and/or excluding dest. -

that makes it quite hard to compare. I find it

easier to compare the price of the car including

    dest.and dealer fees but excluding state/local taxes/fees.

Got an internet quote for 30XXX from the Berkeley

dealer - who I would probably prefer but not for

    over $1.5k more.

Happy Holidays to all. I believe we saved over

$1k by reading this board (a very nice Xmas gift)!

The dealership wanted us to sign a blank sales agreement. We refused and told them to fill it out. They made a hard time out of it. I think they wanted to fiddle with the price. I don't know how they thought they would do this since we are paying cash but when they came back with the paperwork, the price was not the same as we agreed. Good thing I noticed it and we said we would not sign till we came back on Monday to pay for the car.

I still think we did OK on the price for what we negotiated and got with the vehicle.

29,750 incl. dest charge, side steps, wheel locks, rear mud flaps, cargo tray, + 3 free oil changes. I told them EVERYTHING we agreed HAS to be on the sales agreement. The salesman kept saying it was included, he promised, bla bla bla. I said no deal, no sign, till everything was acceptable to us.

I guess here in Rhode Island our car salesmen are slimy!

    Hi all -

We've been researching our next auto purchase and have mostly settled on the Pilot EX-L. We didn't think anyone was getting them below invoice, so in that sense the board has already been very helpful!

My question is, anyone have recent purchases in the Cleveland area? With the 2.9% financing available, we're in the process of getting quotes and it would be nice to know which dealerships are straightforward with the good deals and which are blowing smoke. Thanks!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Haven't bought recently but recent Odyssey board posts have indicated that Classic in Streetsboro, Pruitt in Akron, and Park in Akron all have had very aggressive pricing on that product.

You might also try Jay in Bedford (first see if they have any on ebay where they sometimes offer new Pilots).
  • johnrwebjohnrweb Member Posts: 3
    srl99,

Why did it take them so long to process paperwork? I'm in Southern Cali. If I have to make a trip up north, I don't want to get worned down spending half a day doing paperwork.

Did they work slow on purpose, or was there just a lot of papers you had to sign?

    Hello srl99:

Can you send me the Sales person/Manager's Name at sambulkar@hotmail.com. I called them

details about who bought it/sold it etc.

    Appreciate it. Thanks !

    Hi Samba,

I think you need to email them, not call them. I email them last night and got a very good quote. About $800 lower than the best deal i can get around south bay area. (Of course, I don't got quotes from every Honda dealers).

    Hope this help,

    5) Trunk Tray

    paid $29950+Tax,Lic&Fees

Had called them on phone earlier. Great buying experience with no haggling involved. Got 2.9% Honda financing. Hope this helps.

    samba,

What type of credit score does it appear to take to get that 2.9% financing? Do they have any prepayment penalty?
  • pilot05pilot05 Member Posts: 3
My Dealer says there is No Pre-payment penalty.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Others have posted that a 720 score is necessary for the 2.9% Honda financing but that there may be some flexibility.
  • tcp27705tcp27705 Member Posts: 14
    My best NC quotes:

    Flow Honda in Winston Salem:

29,250 plus tax, tags, and fees. The breakdown is 29250 + 877(tax), 349(doc fee), 57(new tag).

Honda of Concord (Hendrick): 29,399 plus tax, tags, and fees.

Went with the deal from Flow Honda on 12/18. The internet salesman was great to deal with, and we were in and out of the finance dept in 10 minutes.

Flow included wheel locks and rear mud guards for no charge. I had a pre-approved loan from my CU for 4.75%, but Flow beat it at 4.19%. If I had only known Honda would come out with 2.9% 4 days later.

Also, Hendrick Honda in Concord is now offering 0% financing through the end of the year, apparently because they are moving to a new dealership. Looks like a great time to buy a Honda.
  • sambasamba Member Posts: 5
    There's no prepayment penalty.

I think the 720+ (or 740) sounds correct for the

    credit score

I have never bought a new car at a dealership before. If I want to pay for the whole thing w/o financing, what is an acceptable form of payment?

Is a personal check okay with most dealership? Would they let me drive off with a 30K car with only a personal check in their hand?
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
You won't get a pilot for 30% of list. This "25% to 30% off MSRP" applies to american made cars. I know I can get $10,000 off a 2004 Tahoe with a msrp of around $36,000 or 11,000 off a Ford Explorier with MSRP of $38,000.

Right now 04 Honda pilots have $500 cash back to dealers so I know you can get 500 below invoice. I think that would be about 13% off MSRP.
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
johnweb, you should discuss this beforehand with the dealer. Most will take a personal check and you can drive the vehicle off the lot, but they won't leave with the title/mso to the vehicle. They'll keep the paperwork and won't consumate the deal until your check clears.

Alternatively, if you have clean credit, they'll float a 10-day loan, but you'll have to go through the loan paperwork. I'd avoid this if you can.

Most prefer a wire transfer or a cashier's check, but even this will probably require you to get the final paperwork by mail as check forgery is rampant.

Again, talk to them beforehand so there are no surprises. On my last purchase, they took my personal check, held the MSO, and I got it by FedEx a week later.

Hi my wife and I are looking to purchase a new Pilot in the next few days and I am looking to deal with a no hassle dealership in northern NJ that will give a fair price.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? On Carsdirect.com, the Pilot's are priced at $300 below invoice which seems too good to be true and probably almost impossible to replicate when working with a dealership.

Any assistance anyone can provide would be very much appreciated

I don't know about New Jersey but just yesterday here in Ohio I was offered an '05 Pilot EX-Nav for $30,800 (slightly more than $400 less than invoice).

Based on what others have posted recently here, it seems that invoice or less is now the norm.

I live in MD thats why I can't answer your question on how to get a good deal in NJ.

However on the 29th of December I will be assisting my 2 co workers picking up their 05 Pilot E-XL for $30,800 ( includes freight, tags, MD tax, wheel locks and mudguards).

I did this by picking up my newspaper, went to car sales section and got the website of Honda car dealers. Emailed 12 of them, 9 responded with an "OUT OF THE DOOR PRICE". The lowest qoute got our business: Sport Honda in Silverspring MD.

I own an 03 Pilot and is still happy with it. The 05 is more quiet (maybe more insulation) and has more ommphh when I step on the gas (255 hp compared to my 240 hp for 03).Sometimes I'm entertaining a trade-in but my miserly self keeps me at bay.

You have 3 more days to get a good deal, Honda delerships are more flexible because they need to meet monthly and yearly qoutas. Am sure you can get a deal in NJ as good as this or even better if you use the internet and is not to picky with interior and exterior colors

I live in Princeton, NJ and leased my Pilot at 'Princeton Honda'. They are pretty good. I would recommend them highly. The salesman I dealt with did not try to force any unnecessary items for the EX I leased.

You could actually visit their website: http://www.princetonhonda.com/new/index.cfm?CFID=3384339&CFTO- - KEN=5902232

and select the model you want and ask for the price. The website also has the odometer reading and available color for the vehicles.

I just purchased a 2005 Pilot EX-L (12/28). I live in Richmond, VA and got the it in Petersburg, VA (Colonial Honda) 40 minutes away. The price I received was $28,695 plus TTL (no processing fee or freight). I believe that is $200 under invoice.

DaHogs, I appreciate your sharing of info about Brown's Arlington Honda. I emailed 3 different dealerships locally stating what I could get the EX-L from Brown's, and got the best price from Colonial. They even sent me a faxed copy of the buyer's order.

As well, I received the Honda 2.9% financing. I am very pleased with our price/financing and the dealership was excellent.

    Hope this helps!

I just thought that I would provide some additonal pricing experience for this extremly helpful forum. I just purchased a new 2005 EXL w/Nav for my wife tonite and the information that I gleemed from this site was very helpful. Here are my numbers:

    30,549 EXL w/Nav

    100 Processing

    515 Freight

    TT&T

for an out the door price of $32,858. I will also be getting an aftermarket DVD for $880 installed. I got this rather good deal from Ourisman Honda in Bethesda.

I also emailed about 10-12 dealers and I let them know that I was serious about taking advantage of the end of the year dealing. I traded in a 2003 EXL which was in great shape but I'm excited about picking up all the new safety features, convenience features and lastly the Nav. :) Hope this information helps someone as much as the many posts helped me.

    Scotsman,

I have been getting quotes from dealers in the NY metro area lately, and I ended up getting $700 below invoice from 3 dealers. Paramus started off with $500 below at first, Tenafly was right at invoice. I made a deal with Hillside in Queens since I live there. I would have preferred Paramus since they were the most upfront with me from the beginning. I never met the internet salesman, only exchanged email messages and called him once for his final bid, but I think I can recommend him. Can also recommend Tenafly, since he was gracious with me also. Total MV and docs fees were about $250 for both, but that's for registering in NY, higher for NJ. Email me if you want names for either dealership. Don't think they'll go any lower than $700 below though. Paramus told me the holdback was $900, so he was only going to profit $200.

We just bought a 2005 Pilot EX-L with Nav for $1000 under invoice from a very nice dealership in Shreveport, LA. The internet salesman at Holmes Honda responded to my inquiry with a firm price of $30,206 plus a $65 doc fee. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle, we were pleasantly surprised to find he had also thrown in rear mud flaps, wheel locks, cargo tray and paint protectant. We are very pleased with this dealership and all the gentlemen who helped finalize our sale.

It would be great and very helpful if you could post the numbers separately for freight, tax, tags and so on. This will allow us to find the base price and how much you bargained compared to invoice price. Thanks.

Bought a 2005 EXL from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD. They are absolutely No hassle and probably the best price in MD. Also got 2.9% APR. Dealt with Internet only, and overall a great experience. No pushy sales. They have a good extended warranty offer also something around $15XX for 6 year 100K.

    Base Price: 28027

    Destination: 515

    OPtions that I chose

Auto day/night mirror: 250 (installation free)

     Muds & Wheel locks : 130 (pricey - Didn't want

                                  muds but had to take

                                  it)

     Tag & Title etc : 243

     Tax : 1451

      Tire Fee : 2

     Processing Fee : 99

    Total = $30717

Based on prior postings, it looks like I can get a 2005 Pilot EX-L for invoice or better. I live in NE Ohio southeast of Cleveland and was wondering if anyone can confirm that this is the case in this region. I am prepared to buy now.

Absolutely, especially in OH. I received an out the door price quote from Mike Pruitt Honda of Akron for under $29k (not including taxes & tags).

jbronzert - Last post on 12/25 you were searching for a Pilot EX-L in Cleveland area. I am doing the same. Did you ever buy? If so, can you share your experience, recommend a dealer, indicate price I can expect to pay in this region? Thanks!

The buyout for my 2003 company car (leather seats and DVD and less than 17000 miles) is $24000. Is this a good deal or would I be better off buying a 2005 EX-L w/ entertainment? I am in NC in the triad. You all seem pretty helpful, please advise. Thanks!
  • debbiehazedebbiehaze Member Posts: 8
The 2005 Pilot EX-L Nav was sold to us for $30,206 plus $65 for a total of $30,271 (shipping included). We also paid tax, title and license as appropriate for our state and county, but this would vary for every individual. While the internet saleman sold us the base EX-L Nav for $1000 under invoice (plus the $65), when we arrived to pick the car up, he told us he wanted our son to be fully protected and so he had added, at no additional charge to us, the cargo tray, wheel locks, rear mud flaps and paint protectant.

So, for us we did received our Pilot at somewhat more than $1000 under invoice.

In addition to a great car and an excellent price, the folks were super to deal with. Call them!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
This is an (almost) unbelievable price meaning that you got all of their holdback and then some.

Guess that saying about the end of year is true...

Hope I can do the same but, so far, a tad more than $500 under invoice is the best number I've gotten.

Bought the Pilot EX-L on 28 DEC from Sims Honda in Burlington. Paid 29925+TTL. This was the best price I found east or west of the mountains in about 3 months of searching, haggling and walking out of dealerships, did that twice. I spoke with the internet sales rep on the phone on the 27th and settled on the price. Went in at 2pm on the 28th and was out the door in about 2hrs.

Looks like people are getting much better price right now. Will the price go up after Jan. 1? Does it make sense to hurry in and buy before year end? Thanks.

Regarding NE Ohio pricing on Pilots. I had 3 internet quotes at $291xx. But the best was Park Honda at a great $28984. Another dealer matched this with a better trade....thought they were going to choke when they saw what they had to match! New owner of a 05 EX-L. (54 miles....200k to go).

Right now Pilots are going for Invoice less dealer hold back. On a EX-L w/o NAV and DVD Invoice is $28,894. Destination is $515 and holdback is 3% of $32,120 (MSRP). So the year end deal is:

    28894***(see below)

    +515

    -936 (.03 x 32120)

    ----------

    $28,446 w/ 2.9 APR and $100 Doc fee**

plus title, temp tag and sales tax

I have 3 dealerships that quoted me this deal and a 4th that is $300 over this deal.

3 of the 4 dealerships said December 31 is the deadline. One said sometime in January would still be o'k but perfers a deal before Dec 31.

In all cases Mud Guards, Wheel Locks, Pin Strips, Door and Bumper Trim is being thrown in for free if on the vehicle already.

Why such a deal. I am told they need to make their year end quota's. But in the same breath I ask if they have similar deals on Odysees and they say no. Since Odyssey inventory is low, maintaining inventory must be more important than quota.

***don't let the dealership say the invoice is $29,409+$515. The 29,409 number includes the $515.

**I wouldn't pay more than $100 doc fee. In Ohio it is regulated to be $100 max. That is why the dealerships quote $100 and only $100.

In the past holdback money has been sacred. Take it while you can.
