That is a good question. At a minimum I would get a quote before January 1 so you have something in you back pocket.

So in January you can say "hey you quoted me this $$$ in December and the manufacture has not raised prices how can it be more one month later"

    Then stay firm.

Does where you purchase a Honda have a bearing on where you take it for service, either normally scheduled, warranty repairs or other? If I buy at Dealer A (30 miles from home) with the best price and want to take the car to Dealer B (10 miles from home)for service, will I be treated differently since I did not buy there? Thanks for your thoughts.

I live in MD and am in the market for a Pilot EXL DVD, and most likely to buy one this weekend.

I have received quotes from various dealerships in this area. Only one dealership (O'Donnell) has quoted 0.03% ($907) off of the invoice price ($30,242). Other dealers have quoted anywhere between $0 and $550 off of invoice.

I don't think the freight ($515) is included in 0.03% off as you have mentioned.

Thanks for your posting and it will certainly help us while negotiating the deal.

According to the dealers here, the quotes are valid until Jan 3rd, and that's when the month-end/year-end closings gets overwith.

    Hi pilot05,

I know you cannot post the sales person's name and contact information whom you dealt with at O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD in this forum. Can you please send me a personal email with the details. Thanks.

Any idea on how much I should pay for 2004 model Pilot? If it is 2004 model then, how much discount should I ask for? Will I get a better deal buying in December or in January?

I would greatly appreciate all your comments.

    Thanks in advance.

Scroll back through the posts here to find out what others have been paying for their Pilots. You should also check out TMV new car prices, used car pricing, used car values at Edmunds which will provide you with information about your own area.

We just bought last night and are taking delivery tonight. We got 29k including destination charge from Classic Honda in Streetsboro. I had several dealerships tell me they would beat any offer I had and to call before I did anything, so I probably could have kept calling around continuing to reduce the price. But Classic had all the colors we were considering and we were ready to get it over with. I would also recommend calling Jay Honda and Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron. Best of luck.

I previously posted a good deal from these folks

but I have to report several days later they have

yet to make good on delivery of the vehicle.

Despite having my payment in full (check cleared

my bank Tues). Some song and dance about needing

to order an MSO, and a whole string of stories

about when it was ordered and when it will be

    delivered.

Case open with American Honda, stay tuned.

If you go to this dealership Caveat Emptor!

This may be a case of 'low balling', unclear

    at this moment.

I just received an initial offer right at MSRP(Hello. Sale price is $34,635. Thank you and have a great day!) I know it's only the first salvo in a battle to get the price down, but what a mind blower, after what I see going on elsewhere. Buying local is tough, since we have only one Honda dealer here within 60 miles. No competition hurts the consumer.

  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
I never said the 3% is on the freight. The 3% is on MSRP minus the destination. The dealer you are dealing with is telling you 3% of Invoice minus destination is holdback. That is wrong. It is 3% of MRSP minus destination.

I get my 05 EXL tomorrow for

    Invoice $28,894.00

    Destination $515.00

    Less Holdback -$963.48

    Title and Tax $25.50

    Documentation $100.00

    Sales Tax $1998.19

    Total for Pilot $30,569.21

    Towing Package $700.00 (installed)

    Sales Tax $49.00

Out the Door $31,318.21 w/ 2.9% financing and 10 free oil changes or $100 gas card, plus some 3 day 2 night vacation deal, free door ding repair and a car care kit.

Tomorrow, go to the dayton airport rent a Hertz on a one way rental (around $40), drive to bedford Ohio, waste 8 hours of my time and buy a pilot for over $4000 below invoice. That is what you need to be prepared to do then negotiate. I could of got locally for $3500 below, but I will drive for $500. It is good quality time with my son anyway. My gas, food and car rental cost will be around $100 for a net savings of $400. He eats alot.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I don't know about other stores in Ohio but (fast as you can) go to Cleveland/Akron or Columbus and buy for less than invoice (with no battle).

However, first make the deal over the phone. Just get dealer phone numbers from Honda's website and start calling.

While I haven't checked Dayton, Cincinnati, or Toledo, deals may be just as good there.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
snowman, I have done this many times with different makes and never had any servicing dealer raise an eyebrow (or give me unfavorable service). They get paid by the manufacturer for the warranty work done regardless of where the unit was sold.
  • mark16mark16 Member Posts: 11
Clearly, a number of folks are getting great deals at or below invoice. What if anything are you losing on your trade in values?!?
  • objectionobjection Member Posts: 1
    Bassett,

Looking at Sims Honda in Burlington as well for a Pilot Ex-L. Did you get any accessories on that deal? We're looking to purchase asap.

    Thanks, objection
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
The quotes I've gotten below invoice are unrelated to trade-in value.

That said, since my trade will be an '04 Pilot, it is obvious that a lower price on the same make/model new unit adversely affects trade-in value.

Whether the "spread" between price of new and used is the now same or different from a couple of months ago (or from now) cannot be known.

I sent a reply back to the local dealer and received a rough offer of $1000-1500 over invoice, but a definite NO to going any lower than that. I have another offer from an Indianapolis dealer, any Pilot for 1% over invoice, so I just saved at least $700 right off the bat. This forum is great! I will keep trying and see if I can get something done this weekend. For Ohio, Columbus or Cincinnati would be the closest to me at around 3 hours away so I'll try there first. Thanks again,

Sounds like you have made great progress in short order. You might also try Dayton, particularly the store (I don' recall the name) in Tipp City (just North of I-70 on I-75).

    Obrien,

I'm looking for a Pilot and I'm located in Columbus, Ohio. Will you please explain your message? (drive to bedford Ohio, waste 8 hours of my time and buy a pilot for over $4000 below invoice).

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Having once made the same mistake myself, I am quite sure he meant $4000 under MSRP, not invoice.

I am shopping right now in Columbus for a Nav and getting such quotes here.
  • moses7moses7 Member Posts: 25
cc, Thank you for the reply...

Immke has quoted $400 over invoice. and Honda East quoted 2% over invoice on Pilots and CR-V's.

Can I expect to do much better than this?

    Again, Thanks!
  • moses7moses7 Member Posts: 25
    cc,

How much under invoice have you been quoted? also will you drop the names of the dealer(s).

    Thanks again,

Thanks for your reply. I wound up at Classic also...was at the dealer this afternoon. Probably did not miss you by much. I plan to take delivery tomorrow (Friday). Did slightly better on the price of the EX-L, but then I added some accessories which they made a few bucks on, so a similar deal to yours.

    Good luck.

Picked up my EXL last night. This is what I got. Originally, I got it to $700 below invoice. Then threw on some accessories, and after finding out what they would charge with installation, asked for another $346 in discounts. This board has been great with base pricing, but did I do OK with the accessories?

    28,894 invoice

      -700 discount

    ------

    28,194

       515 dest

    ------

    28,709

       142 cargo cover

       625 running boards(installed)

       561 fog lights (installed)

       643 lower trim (installed)

        44 rear splash (installed)

    ------

    30,724

    - 346 additional discount

    ------

    30,378

     2,620 sales tax

       175 mv, docs fees

    ------

    33,173

So, did I get about 1,000 below invoice, or did they rip me on the accessories?

    Thanks!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
The outrageous prices Honda (and others) charge for such items ($561 for fogs is simply off the wall), I don't know that you can add these prices onto the base vehicle price and claim you went even more "under invoice."

Don't kid yourself, the dealer made some profit on your accessories.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, you should be able to do better. I spoke with the internet guy at Immke last night. He said the best he could do on a Nav (no other model discussed) was $375 over invoice. He almost dropped the phone when I told him I had quotes well under invoice from elsewhere and made it plain he could not match such prices.

I hope to conclude this matter one way or the other today and, if I do buy (color and trade-in value are issues), will post the details ASAP. Take a look at Post #3251 - $700 under invoice in NYC speaks volumes about the current market on Pilots.
  • mabubbamabubba Member Posts: 53
Thanks for your help. I just looked it up, it's Voss Honda. I emailed them for a quote. Have you had any luck w/ the other dealers in or around Dayton. That, or Cincinnati would be the easiest Ohio trip to make for me.

As a follow up to my purchase, I ended up with 2 cd players, one a 6cd changer and on the top, another single cd player! I checked the brochure again and obviously it should have been a cassette player. Means another 2 trips to the dealer. What idiots! And another observation. In the dealership, I signed the odometer statement that said there were 11 miles on the car. After I drove off, there were 32 miles already on it. Do I have a legitimate beef about this, or is this common?

    Thanks.

    Hello all,

I read a lot of posts on here about a 3% incentive off of invoice price from Honda on the 2005 Pilot, etc, and saw lots of people posting about how they got their pilot for 28,500, give or take a bit.

So I went to my local dealer, who I bought a used Odyssey from last month (and he gave me a good price).

He offered me a price of 29,710 on the EX-L, which he said was $300 over invoice, and the best he could do.

He also acted like I was insane when I mentioned the 3% discount on invoice price, said there was no such incentive from Honda. I told him I read it posted from dozens of users on this site who were getting their car for around 28,500 and he shook his head and said he had never heard of it and did not believe it.

I also contacted another deal, both of these were within 20 miles of me, and they said the same thing, offered me the same invoice price, but for $200 over (since it was an internet purchase attempt). Total of 29,610.

I am in Fairfield County, Connecticut area. Could this be a regional thing? Just want to be armed with the proper information.

Also, he said the wheel locks were $99. I told him the other dealer offered them for $30, which they did, but he said those are not the brand new ones, which are bigger and stronger. He said the other dealer was trying to skimp on me.

I'm not the kind of guy to get upset about losing $100. I'd rather spend $100 more and just go with this salesperson, at my local dealership, to make life easier, but I know these little things can start adding up.

    Feedback appreciated.

    Thanks all,

It's an unbelieveable quote. I just got an email from Holmes Honda for the base EX-L for $1000 below invoice(28,409). It's too good a deal to not seriously consider even though I am in Indiana. I will try to work something out. I'm heading to Mardi Gras in New Orleans in Feb., so I might be able to swing a trip over to Shreveport. Shipping it here is also an option. Thanks debbiehaze the info!!

Try carsdirect.com. It'll give you a guaranteed price and direct you to a participating dealer in your area. I punched in 06825 for the zip and it came in $300 BELOW invoice, same as in NYC area, where I just paid $700 below invoice(see My deal in Queens,NY). So it can be done. Especially since today's the last day of the month/year!

    Good luck.

I think what you are thinking of is the holdback, which for Honda is 2%.

I just purchased an EXL in RI for $29750 includes dest., side steps, wheel locks, cargo tray, mud flaps, plus 3 free oil changes.

I thought this price was pretty reasonable and comparable to the other deals others were getting.

If they will only take $29710, then maybe you could negotiate a couple extras from them for the same price, i.e. side steps, auto mirror, or even some FREE oil changes.

    Good luck!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No one here has claimed a 3% under invoice price involved any type of incentive.

You are right, though, that price is related to geography as many, many posts on these boards amply demonstrate.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, I haven't tried them at all and merely suggested Voss based on some good numbers from many years ago - didn't actually buy there then. Hmmm, I don't think that was the name then - perhaps they have changed hands in the meantime.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Arranged a deal on a Billet Silver '05 Pilot with Nav this afternoon. It had 23 miles on it before I added 20 during a test drive earlier in the week. Purchase price is $30,500 (more than $700 under invoice). Document fee is $100. Also qualified for the 2.9% 60 month financing. Will pick it up either tomorrow (they are open only from 12-5) or Monday, 1/3.

Selling dealer is Hugh White in Columbus. I was told (and have no reason to doubt) that at least part of the reason for the present under invoice prices is a national manufacturer bonus of $500 per vehicle sold over certain number per dealer in the period ending Monday, January 3. I do not know whether this is unique or a regular Honda practice.

mabubba, they had one other Nav (Desert Rock) on the ground as of this afternoon.
  • moses7moses7 Member Posts: 25
CC, I spent most of today on the phone calling dealers around Ohio. My best "phone" prices were at Hugh White Honda as well.

    Pilot EX $26,500

    Odyssey Ex $24,500

I'm going out tomorrow to pick one out....

    BTW.... Thanks!
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
see post 3236 for the exact deal

Sorry it was 4000+ below MSRP or in terms of invoice $962 below invoice (3% below invoice). Also I got the towing package that sells for $1000 to $1200 for $700. Voss Honda told me $889 for towing package was the bottom deal at their dealership.

The point of the message was (to the folks in Indiana) if you travel you can get a deal.

I just got back from Bedford (Jay Honda). I now have a 05 Odeysee for my wife, 05 Pilot for me. I am good for 12 years for her and 15 for me.

Jay's Honda was trying to become the largest Honda dealer in five states. (i.e. big discounts yesterday and today) They sold 31 car yesterday and who knows how many today.

    p.s. to whoever posted 2%. Honda's holdback is 3%.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Just one? LOL, at those prices you might want to buy one of each! Sounds as though I might have been able to do even better than I did on the Pilot. Perhaps I'll buy an Odyssey as well for myself.

I do know they are most anxious to move stock right now.

  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
cc, good job you got them to squeal

so is there a $500 manufacuter to dealer rebate on Pilots or is it on all Honda's. I knew there had to be some type of incentive since too many dealerships were participating

but to give back 962 holdback to gain a 500 incentive still does not make sense.

Picked EX-L (Sage Brush Pearl) from local cookeville Honda today:

28686 (including protection package and splash guards - $400 worth?)

    +515(dest)

    +199(dealer processing)

    =29400

    +TTL

Also got 2.9% APR from Honda without trouble.

All the 05 invoice or below deals are amazing, I paid about $29,900 for a 04 Pilot EX-L early this year or last year (is it already 05). Got a super deal on the lease , the residual of course being high. Now with all the invoice or below prices being available now, ( my kid sister bought a 05 Pilot EX, cloth seats for $27500) I hope my Pilot loses value in a few years so I can purchase it at below residual! Great SUV, or probably the best cross-over SUV.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It sounded as though he was describing it as applying to total store sales but we did not discuss it in great detail.

Although this is speculation, imagine it this way. If a store's sales goal for the month is 50 and 50 are sold, the dealer would get 50 times $500 for a total of $25,000. If the store sells 49, they would get zero.

If it works anything like that, the dealer's incentive to sell the units as they approach the goal becomes strong.

Perhaps isell can help us out here.

Last night picked on Pilot Ex-L from Fairfax Honda, VA for a OTD price of $29501.00

    Breakup:

    Price - 28508.00(incl dest of $515)

    Title &

    Licencing fee- 102.00

    VA tax - 891.00

                       ----------

    Total 29501.00

                       ----------

This includes the options Door Edge Guards, Wheel Well Guards, Pin Stripes, Mud Guards, Floor Mats and Wheel Locks.

And I was forced by my wife to purchase the extended warranty(7 yrs 100,000 miles) on a year-end promotion(the business manager said so) price of $1450.00 from Hondacare. I can cancel this at any time within 60 days. I am still thinking about it.

So total OTD price is 30951.00(incl extended warranty). Got 2.9% from Honda. This forum was very helpful in analysing the prices. Thanks a lot to everyone.
  • obrien040362obrien040362 Member Posts: 134
the way i look at extended warrenties.

You have to have something go wrong greater that 1450 to break even.

    It is a Honda.

It will probable be reoffered by Honda at the end of the 36 month term.

1450 seem high. I think 900 or so has be posted. You might try to reseach and renegotiate with the threat if they don't do it then you would cancel.

When I bought my mom's toyota the extended warrenty deal had a refund agreement. If you had no claims then at the end of the term they refunded 100% of the money. But if you had a $200 claim then you lost the refund option. So one would never claim unless it was a big problem. We still turned down the extended warrenty option.
