    Hi Wonderfull,

I'm in the Bay Area. Which dealer did you get those quotes from? And how did you get them?

    Thanks!
  • trantran Member Posts: 12
I think you got a good deal on both. Does your price including destination charge?

Just got the Pilot. 2005 EX-L RES, Steven Vincel Honda.

Invoice, plus destination and accessories. I was able to lock in the December pricing on Jan 5, for a vehicle they did not yet have. I reserved it for 500 deposit. They did not have the color and interior leather color in their stock but knew one was on order. It arrived just a few days later than they predicted, but that was no problem (allowed me to sell my car they obviously did not want to take on a trade- very low offer, 1000 - 2000 range for a car I was able to sell in one week for 4500, wholesale price was probably 3500-4000). I was able to choose just the accessories I wanted. I went to the dealer to pick it up and there were no problems what so ever. I would strongly recommend using the internet sales staff at the dealerships now.

    Hey everyone,

I agree. Internet sale is the way to go these days. It was a great experience, compared to my last one 8 years ago.

Price quoted with Dest Charge: $28,973.00

Added black alum side steps: $671.00

    Added rear mud flaps: $76.00

    Doc Fee: $52.00

    Total taxes: $2232.90

    New License & Title: $143.00

    Out the door price: $32,147.90

I received a couple of internet quotes and this guy was the best. After a couple of emails back and forth, we spent an hour in the dealership on Thursday, and came back Saturday morning to take delivery. This was smooth as silk. Contact me if you're wanting to know which dealership / salesman helped us out!

Has anyone had experience with carsdirect.com? I just put in a request with them, but don't quite understand how the process works. I am trying to purchase a 2005 pilot ex-L with navigation. Carsdirect gave me an estimated price of $31,606, not including fees, taxes, etc. What can I expect my final price with these things to be? Can I do better in or around Los Angeles?

    Thanks,

I would like the name of that dealership. My current quote (w/entertainment) is $31,750.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I was just quoted $31,207 plus fees for an EX-L with navigation. Anyone know if that's good for Los Angeles, and how much room I might have to negotiate?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You are, I believe, at invoice with that figure - a good price anywhere. It's hard to see how you could do better much, if any, better.
  • laurasflaurasf Member Posts: 10
That's great. Thanks. This is my first time buying a new car, and I don't want to be ripped off.

One more question, then I'll leave you good people alone. I found a 2003 pilot EX-L with navigation and only 13,000 miles for $28,000 out the door. Is the 2005 that much better than I should spring for an additional $5,000 to get a new one?

    Thanks,

    Laura
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, you should, if you can swing it.

By "out the door" I assume you mean that all taxes, etc., are included and that the cost of the '05 "out the door" would be about $33,000.

First, the '03 price (I assume it to be somewhat north of $26,000) seems a bit high.

Second, the '05 has a number of significant improvements (especially the addition of stability control) compared to an '03 or '04. We traded an '04 for an '05 EX-L Nav last month. It is my wife's primary vehicle - she likes the new one even better than the '04 and says it drives better.

Third (depending on how much you drive), you'll have at least 3 years warranty coverage with the new one versus 1 on the used one.

Last (depending on how long you'll have it), you'll get some of that "extra" $5000 back when you're through with it as it will always be 2 years newer and have 13,000 less miles on it.

Regardless of which way you go, it is a marvelous vehicle.
  • laurasflaurasf Member Posts: 10
    Hi,

Thanks for the input. It's actually $34,000 out the door, as taxes in Los Angeles are 8.5%. However, we have decided to buy the new car. It is $31,207 plus taxes, etc., including mudguards, & cargo cover. I think it's an OK price.

I just went to Kelly Blue book for a rough idea. Used my zip Rocky Mount NC. and took defaults with 13000 miles and excellent condition. Trade in value is $24,675. You might want to go there and adjust to your specific situation but $28,000 appears to be a little high. Remember that some are getting Pilots for less than MRSP.

    Hi,

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience and opinions on this board. I learned a lot.

I am looking to buy a 2005 Pilot EXL without DVD or NAV this weekend. So I requested internet quotes from pretty much all dealers within 100 miles (SoCal). One of them offered $28900 including destination, so only TTL and $50 doc fees are extra. No accessories added. From all I've seen, this is an excellent offer. Especially if you consider that most other dealers (about 10) quoted somewhere from invoice to 700 over! So I started to think if there is a catch somewhere :-) I checked their BBB record and it is pretty good. Anything else I need to do before making a trip? I'll probably have to go there to find out but just wanted to do my homework thoroughly.

I am asking a couple local dealers to price match but haven't heard back yet. Didn't hope much.

    Thanks!

Sounds pretty good to me. I am in SoCal also and have received quotes a thousand higher than yours for an EXL. If it works out let me know where you got it.

If you don't mind do drive a little for a good deal. Sam Swope Honda World in Louisville has some great deals on Pilot's if the dealer's in Indy won't deal with you. I bought my 05 Pilot EX-L RES for 30,200 on 1/1/05.

    Hi,

First, I want to thank this group, which I think is responsible for my literally saving thousands of dollars.

I decided to spring for the 2005 EX-L with navi instead of getting the used 2003, after reading the posts from sportymonk and others. Also, the sunroof was a big feature for me, as I had one on the car before last, but not on my last car, and for the ten years I drove the car I kept jonsing for a sunroof!

After much internet comparison shopping and playing the dealers off each other, North Hollywood Honda gave me the following:

    $30,732 plus:

    1)doc fees $45

    2)state tax $2539.11

    3)state dmv fee $261

    4)state tire fee $8.75

Total out the door price: $33,586

My new pilot now has 20 miles on it, and I'm happy to report no problems thus far! :) I really loved driving it home.

zhscar, I got the following from Long Beach Honda:

Below is our SET, NO-HAGGLE pricing for the 2005 HONDA PILOT Models:

    - EX Automatic: YOUR SET PRICE/YOUR SET PRICE/$26,417.00

    - EX-L Automatic (Leather): YOUR SET PRICE/$28,394.00

    - EX-L Automatic (Leather/DVD): YOUR SET PRICE/$29,742.00

    - EX-L Automatic (Leather/Navi): YOUR SET PRICE/$30,191.00

It looks as though they are a few hundred over the quote you got.

    Laura
  • zhscarzhscar Member Posts: 7
    Laura,

Thanks for the info. If the quote you got doesn't include des. charge, then it is exactly the same as mine. Came out to be about $28909+TTL for an EXL. So seems like it is a legitimate deal and the dealer still makes about $500 profit due to 3%holdback (if not more). Not a huge margin but maybe some dealers are willing to take it with minimal efforts.

BTW, I did receive a second quote which is similar and another one for $28500 inc. destination. Now this is ridiculously low. More importantly both dealers' BBB records are horrible. So I'll pass.

    theshadowknows,

I'll let you know if the deal goes through.

    We bought an 05 EX-L

$29750 includes $515 dest., aluminum side steps, wheel locks, cargo tray, mud flaps, AND 3 FREE oil changes.

Purchased end of December in Rhode Island.

Our internet quotes were alot higher. It was worth the time haggling in person, even though it was Christmas Eve.
  • zhscarzhscar Member Posts: 7
Well, after a couple weeks of research, mainly from this site and another Pilot owners website, we bought our 05 EXL today in the San Diego area. Price was $29100 including destination, cargo tray, wheel locks, door edge guard and mud guard. Paid extra for tax, DMV fee and $45 doc. Entire process was smooth and they attempted but didn't push too hard on extended warrenty or alarm system. They did, however, added $40 to the DMV fee which was questionable, but I let it go (my 2-yr-old's nap time is more important IMP).

I didn't go for the $28900 offer which is 90 miles away, thinking a local dealer may be better especially with a few accessories included. This is a rather small dealership; bigger ones in San Diego are asking for invoice at least, with ridiculous internet quotes of 700 to 1.4K above invoice.

Time to sell my Civic. Anyone? :-)

Thanks again to everyone on this wonderful board.

    Folks,

After doing some research and test driving 4Runner and Pilot, my wife and I are pretty much set on 2005 Pilot.

Has anyone got data on the prices on 2005 models in the Maryland and Virginia area?

    Thanks a bunch.

It benefits everyone if you can post the dealership, city, state and pricing of your particular deal. You can post pretty much everything except the individual name of the sales person, their phone or email.

    That way - everyone benefits.

    Thanks!

I was given a price of $29609 including destination on a 2005 Pilot EXL. I thought I was getting a fair price until I read a few posts on here of people getting below invoice. Should I hold out for a better price? I live in the St. Louis area.
  • bajabill1bajabill1 Member Posts: 17
    Stepper

I recommend Stephen Vincel, I cant guarantee they are the absolute lowest price and you will have to decide how hard you want to work and when you want to stop. I think St Louis Honda is another good one to try and they have an internet agent. The pricing trends vary monthly from what I was able to determine, early in the month you may be able to guess if the price is changing for the better or worst. End of the year (December) was when the less than invoice was available from St Louis Honda, I was able to get invoice in January but was told that the pricing was going up. I have not looked back to know what has happened for January or February. If the prevailing prices was just a couple of hundred above invoice, I probably would not sweat it, but I have other battles I would rather fight. I never thought I would get a Honda for this pricing and initially was expecting 1000-1500 above invoice. If you use Edmunds to request a dealer quote and are not able to get a quote from both Vincel and St Louis Honda, fudge your zip code a little closer to the one you cant obtain, or got to the dealer's web sight directly.

We just purchased an 05 Pilot EX-L Nav for 30,806 or exactly $400 under invoice

+ TTL and $55 doc fee.

We were very pleased with the internet sales person. No BS, not scams,

and no problems of any kind.

The next lowest price we got was ~$1,100 more than Muller's price.

Does anybody know, if there are any deals on PILOTs for President's day.??????low APR's or cash backs..
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
A Honda salesman recently told me that their President's Day promo is only that - a marketing promotion and to expect no special offers.

Guess we won't know if that will be the case until it happens but he has been reliable in the past.

Anybody have pricing experience on 05 Pilot LX
  • srl99srl99 Member Posts: 37
I saw a quote on LX at 24,303 last December

(there was an 'extra' incentive for at least

some dealers, as there were many deals

which gave at least part of the holdback

to the customer). This quote was from El Cerrito

Honda (near Oakland, CA). I cannot recommend

    this dealership.

We are seeing deals within a few hundred of the

Dec promotion prices showing up on this board

    these days.

Search back on this board to the mid-Dec time-

frame an you'll see this quote from EC

    Honda.

We were originally looking for an LX (in 2004)

but decided we really wanted the factory sunroof

which pushed us to the EX-L(2005). We paid 28.5k

    in Dec.
