Also, your suggested plan is known as FRAUD. Let's put an end to discussing illegal scheme on the boards. Thanks.

I just purchased an '05 Steel Blue Pilot EX (cloth) in San Diego for. I paid $28,450 which included running boards, cross bars, wheel locks, splash guards, cargo net, and truck tray.

Another dealer quoted me 'a few hundred off invoice' (invoice is $27,432)if I would have taken one that he had on the lot in a different color. We wanted the blue so we didn't bite on the good pricing.

I was really happy with the service I received and did all of the communication over email. It was nice to show up at the dealer and have the vehicle ready and waiting with accessories already installed.

So far we love the vehicle and I am impressed by how quiet the cabin is. No problem hearing gthe kids from the 3rd row, although maybe that's not a good thing....

I just picked up my 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L this weekend at Herb Chambers Honda in Boston MA. Since this message board was so helpful in my research for the new car I wanted to post my results so that someone might be able to get a better deal.

$28,810 for a 2005 Honda Pilot EX with Leather, that price includes the $515 destination charge (this price does not include tax, documentation fee and there was no trade-in). I didn’t get any accessories.

How I got my quotes: I e-mailed a bunch of dealerships in my area asking for their best quote. The ones that got in touch with me called me back and gave me a quote. When I was talking to a dealership if they gave me a quote that was higher than another dealership I told them that I currently had a better quote. Herb Chambers said they would beat my best quote (which was a place in Natick MA) and they did by a $100. I liked getting the price this way because I had a price even before I walked in the door.

Plus, I got 3.29 financing thru the dealer

Bought an EX for 28,400 destination, and running boards included. No trade, tax was $1700, doc/reg $100. Financing of 2.9% for 60 months, seems best around for a Honda. How does this compare to your deal?
  • leoleo Member Posts: 9
If you use the MSRP/invoice/price information from Edmunds and pay at the invoice or less than the price people are paying. You have get yourself a good deal and a car with great value. I used the internet to get my 2005 EXL-Nav, that was no pain, I asked the dealer to list all information including the total price with all taxes and fees that applied. I printed the email; took it down to the dealership to verify all thats listed on the email are correct, wrote them the check and took the car home.

Yeah, the place in Natick MA is such a ripoff, its insulting.

I got a firm quote of 25,123 for the LX. but like you say, thats only round 1.

I am in the same location and want exactly the same thing. Could you tell me which dealer you are dealing with?

    Thanks.

I was told that the price I negotiated was based on Honda offering the dealership a larger holdback during the Presidents Weekend Sale. I'm not sure if that is true or not, but I am very happy with the price I paid and my wife loves her new Pilot.

    Good Luck!!

    Hello,

I am currently looking to buy a 2005 Pilot EX-L. I have emailed several Honda dealers in the VA area. I am having a hard time getting them to give me quotes and the ones that have are much higher then I have seen on here.
Any suggestions as to what I should do to get them to respond.

    I have one quote for:

    Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price: $32,320.00

    Special : Casey Honda/BMW Internet Price:$29,573.85

    Virginia Title Tax: $908.34
    Gross Receipts Tax: $60.18
Processing Fee: $189.00 (typically this runs $399.00 in our dealership)
    ***** A savings of $ 210.00 for being a Internet Buyer******
DMV: $ 51.50 (unless you request personal plates)
    Destination Fee: $515.00
    ___________________________________

    Total Cost: $31,297.87

Do you think this is a good offer, I have already emailed him back telling him that I received a better offer and I am waiting to see what he says. Thanks for any help!

By my calcs, this is a true $400 over invoice deal. It may not be the absolute best possible, but this is pretty competitive in my book.

Chris, from what I am seeing in the board you should offer only about $29,000 with the destination fee. It looks like they are offering you the vehicle for about 30,100 before taxes and fees. I honestly think you are leaving about $1100 on the table if you take that offer. Even with the $200.00 add on for the new Pilots coming out you are still about 1 1/2 to 2% over invoice from what I am seeing. You have to remember they have a 3% hold back on the Pilot's or maybe even more by some of the prices I am seeing in here. I bought my Pilot EX-L RES at the first of the year for only $30,200. I believe with that price tell them to throw you in a free dvd player and you will take it. Good luck.

    bigblueindy,

Thanks for the information. I do want to get the best deal possible. I can't seem to get anyone to work with my over the computer. I am living in Japan right now and won't be in VA for two weeks and would like to have the deal worked out by that time. I will keep looking for a better deal. Thanks!!!

Are dealers really selling Pilots for nearly $1K under invoice? This is what an offer of $29K with dest is, since invoice on an EX-L with dest is about $30K.

I received an email from someone was it you?

If not, please email me. I tried to post on here about getting you a good/very fair deal. But I broke the rules by using a name.

I tried to use ALL of the dealers internet staff members names - but evidently that was still wrong (I used 3 names).

Anyway, someone emailed me on that post prior to its deletion and if was you great, if not, you may want to email me (I get nothing from the dealer for this - I asked, and they said no, sorry we don't...) in case that matters to anyone.
  • chris16chris16 Member Posts: 11
    chuminthewater,

I received an email today from the dealer that you recommended. They made an offer of $29,129 for the EX-L and I assume it is with destination. I am going to email them to verify that. The only bad thing is they are three hours away. I will try to see if any local dealers can beat it or match it, if not I will make the drive!!
    Thanks for you help!!
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
    Glad to help.

But remember, if a local cannot match or beat it, factor your time (and gas) versus what someone 3 hours closer will do for you. If you save say $100 but drive 3 hours and spend it on gas each way - is that valuable?

Be sure to get out the door ITEMIZED quotes that way you also have something to show to a local dealer - heck maybe the dealership can hook you up and he'll get a fee or something and you get your car of choice locally.

    Either way good luck.
  • chris16chris16 Member Posts: 11
    chuminthewater,

I got an email back today saying that the $29,129 does include destination and a few other options. When I checked with local dealers to see if they could match it, they said they can't because it is under invoice and said that they could probably beat there out the door cost because they probably have hidden fees. I have emailed to see what the out the door cost will be and see. I really don't want to have to drive three hours if a local dealer can come close.

    Thanks for all your help!!

    EX-L Navi - msrp $34635 offered price $31207 including destination. Not a demo...Opinions?
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
But get that itemized out the door and then visit your local dealer - 3 hours for savings of under $200 is not worth it to me. But, maybe you could get some free oil changes or something from your local dealer for the difference.

    Just my opinions.
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
    I am no expert.

But if that number is around $800 under invoice then it is fine.

Seems a lot are going (I assume all versions) for $800 to $1 under invoice. In my metropolitan area - with many dealers who must compete for sale.

    Good luck -

You're right about at invoice with the number. Best you can do is price shop with other stores and see if anyone will beat it.

What are people paying for this? The TMV price is $32055, but with so many in inventory could it be bought for less?

  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
Can be bought for invoice or less.

I got an EX cloth for about 800 under. And I sent someone to same dealer who got a EX leather and a couple other options for about 1K under.

We paid $30,806 for the EL-L Nav in Feb. of this year in Chicagoland just as a point of reference.

That was + TTL and a $55 doc fee ONLY. No other fees.

    -D
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Agreed, paid $30,500 (plus $100 doc fee) for an EX-L Nav on January 3 in Columbus, OH.

Probably not as good a direct comparison as dealers were really motivated to move them right then.
  • beer4799beer4799 Member Posts: 23
Can't seem to get below invoice in Central NJ or Eastern PA. $31200 seems to be the limit and that is for existing stock as of a week ago. New units coming in are up about $150 according to each dealership.

    Hello,

I am looking to buy a Pilot EX-leather at the best quote I can find is invoice at 28,894+ dest=$29409. I cannot find any dealers willing to sell under invoice. Is this a good deal? I also want running boards installed and cannot get them to work on the price with me. It looks like my OTD will be $31,272.31, is this a good deal? Thanks!

Above purchased at College Park Honda 3/5/05
Otd price included taxes, title, $99 processing. splash guard, wheel locks included. After reviewing messages I think I paid $800 too much. I had not done an internet search prior to the transaction but did have cons report price report indicating an invoice price of $31206 with dealer hold back of $1024 for a wholesale price of $30182 as a reference.

$33500= price, taxes, title, processing fee

I spent over 4 hours on the transaction. Negotiating several issues including $515 freight charge which my reference invoice price of $31206 already included. Also, dealer prep charges.

I paid cash, no financing, no trade in.

I think I paid about $300 above invoice but from my reference material the dealer should have been getting a holdback of $1024. Someone else posted an earlier purchase which I think was about $500 below invoice. As a first time new vehicle purchaser I think I did all right. I am not sure how much lower I could have pushed the dealer. I will follow the message board out of curiosity to see if others can complete the transaction for $500 below invoice. If the pilot performs as expected I will feel pretty good about the deal.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
My sister and I separately bought Pilots from the same store (though from different salesmen) on the same day at the end of last year. We were both repeat customers.

She paid $300 over invoice for her EX-L.

I paid $700 under invoice for my wife's EX-L Navi.

Previously, I had told her that the MOST she should pay was $400 under invoice. She nevertheless paid $700 more than that.

I guess this just goes to show how much flexibility there is in pricing.

She did later recover some of this difference after we beefed and ended up with a set of fog lights for free.
  • sportymonksportymonk Member Posts: 258
    1. What is the new invoice, Edmunds doesn't show anything.

    2. What is a fair price? From what I have seen $500 below to invoice seems realistic with some getting $1000 below if I remember correctly.

    3. Who is a good dealer in the Raleigh NC area. I have seen a lot of posts for Odys at places like Dick Brooks but not a lot of Pilots.

    4. Is there a reason a dealer might not offer a good price on the Pilot if they do offer a good price on a Ody? Seems like if a dealer was good for an Ody price they would be good for a Pilot price.
  • sportymonksportymonk Member Posts: 258
Wife agreed to test drive Pilot, she says I need a new vehicle. Want to test drive but should I request price quote at the same time or wait till after test drive?

How do you contact dealer, through Honda request a Quote or through Edmunds or email direct?

I found this forum very helpful and just purchased a new '05 Pilot EX-L from Steve Bailey, on the North side of Oklahoma City. Originally looking in the ballpark of 2000-2500 off MSRP for the past month or so, but finally got an offer for 3200-3500 off MSRP depending on which trim level.(I got 3200 for the EXL) Very helpful and smooth transaction. Looks like the market for the pilot has cooled significantly since they were really looking to dump about 7 new pilots that were getting "stale". Lastly, the "sage green" color really isn't green. It's more of a charcoal grey metallic. There's really very little green in the paint. Looks really different from the internet IMHO.
  • sportymonksportymonk Member Posts: 258
I thought I was the only one that couldn't find the green in sage brush pearl. In the ads it looks like the perfect shade of green; when I saw it in person, it didn't look green.

Have you noticed that the "fern" interiors are not green either. Must be something lost in the translation.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
I suggest you just drive it first. In my opinion, once you request a price, you have started the negotiation process and intend to purchase.

Last time I looked Edmunds didn't show anything for invoice. Does anybody know what current invoice is? EX-L specifically
  • exoman1exoman1 Member Posts: 12
We drove the Pilot this weekend and really liked it. Went out for local (midwest) internet pricing and best price is $28,849 +TTL. I thought they would try to add destination charge but it's already in the above price. Now, my main question is how do I apply that price to a 36 month lease?
  • judasgoatjudasgoat Member Posts: 1
Has anyone ever seen a 2005 Pilot in the color "Graphite Pearl"? I see this color readily available for the accord, but it isn't even listed as an option for the Pilot. The reason I ask is that I am looking at buying one, but the colors they have available are actually Accord colors like "Desert Mist" and "Graphite Pearl". I can't find Pilots in these colors anywhere and am just curious where my dealer got these.

    sportymonk,

I just bought a Pilot EX-L and the salesman explained that the Pilot invoice went up $200 for all Pilots made/delivered after Feb 2005. I would think that if invoice was 28,894 it is now 29,094. I hope that helps!

Just got a quote from a Houston, TX dealer going through Edmunds for a 05 Pilot EX-L with Rear Entertainment System for:

$30,595 (which includes the $515 destination charge) + TTL.

Is this a good deal? Could I do better?

Any pricing information on the Pilot EX for the SF/Bay Area. I have seen some ads at $27,300 before taxes and fees.
  • tkriktkrik Member Posts: 1
Los Angeles dealer (FamilyHonda.com) Fleet Mgr accepted my offer of 30,500 (includes Destination of 515, i.e. 29,985 + 515 = 30,500) for 05 Pilot EX-L RES (DVD) Stell Blue Metallic. Dealer offered to deliver to me in San Diego, distance of ~70 miles one way. Website listed vehicle invoice at 30,422 + 515 destination = 30,937.

Wouldn't be suprised if a better deal could be found in LA right now due to high inventory levels.

First let me thank all the members of this forum for their insights and pricing information. On March 4th I got a nice deal on a 2005 Billet Silver Metallic Pilot EXL-RES from Gunn Honda in San Antonio. This is a no-haggle dealership so prices may or may not be great on any particular car. They drop the prices as the cars sit on the lot. Mine had been there 57 days so the price including destination was down to $29.995. Based on the information posted here, this sounded pretty good and I went for it. For comparison, they had a Sage Brush Pearl Pilot EXL-RES that had been on the lot for fewer days (I don’t recall how long) for $30,776 including destination.

Anyway the OTD on my Pilot was $32,400 as follows:

    Pilot EXL-RES $29,995
    Rear splash guards $72 w/install
    Cross bars $190 w/install
    Taxes $1,964
    License, title, etc. $127
    Doc fee $50

They got me on the splash guards and cross bars, but they don’t negotiate and I didn’t want to install these myself. Still, it seemed like a pretty good deal.
