To clarify, I live in New York City. I checked with DMV, who has jurisdiction over these dealers, and they say as long as I didn't take delivery, which is not scheduled until next week, I can cancel the contract.

This morning, I called the salesman and pointed out the error and asked him to reduce by the $515 destination that was charged twice. He is checking into it and will get back to me. I didn't threaten anything or ask to renegotiate, even though I would like to. I made the offer and I'll stick to it. I just don't want to be the victim of double charging.

Good to hear about the 2.9% rate, that helps.

I just spoke to my dealer and there is no special Honda financing tied to this weekend's promotion, at least not in Ohio.

While it is possible there might be some such regional program, this seems more likely to be a dealer specific buy-down.

Still, putting off having you complete the transaction until a given date does suggest it is legitimate. Kindly provide us with full details once you conclude the transaction.

You might want to check out Herb Chambers Honda, Burlington (MA). I purchased my Pilot about a month ago there for $3400 below MSRP. That brought the price of the Pilot EX-L down to $29,235. Finalized the deal January 22nd. I was happy to get it down below invoice price.

If you want I can give you the name of the person I was dealing with and a more detailed explanation of the process I went through.

I spoke to the salesman and he had to go to the general manager, and they are adjusting for the double destination charge. So, now I am paying $30,000 plus $199 prep/paperwork. Not a great price, but still over $2,000 below list price. This for an EXL.

Amazing how these prices have come down in a couple of years.

Finished my paperwork tonight and they came through with the 2.9% financing as promised. I did get another e-mail today from another dealer offering 1.9% financing.

I think I did okay at $29,600 + dest, tax, tags and processing ($100) for Pilot EX-L w/RES, also includes pinstripe, wheel locks, mud guards, door guards.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Glad to hear all went well. It sounds as though there is some local financing competition. Who provided the loan?
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
I am at 27,800 out the door.

    Car only is 25,618 (ish).

Then add tax, dest, etc, etc, etc.

That would be 26,133. Invoice is 27,432 both with dest included.

So, my deal is 1299 under. But they do insist on 495 for packs and 289 for paperwork. Ok, so that is 400 under. Realistically we all pay something for the packs and for paperwork. So, I think it is around 600 under. I am satisfied.

I can use that 600 and some extra for a better RES.

28,462.00 is technically 947.00 below dealers invoice..however in many postings here..where people state what they received 'below invoice'..no one seems mention trade-ins.....as we all know there are extremely high markups on trade-ins..so what initially sounds like a good deal..isn't always.....get a good deal 'invoice-wise', you are bound to get thrown under the bus with your trade-in......mine was a wash.....8500.00 plus the tax break (425.00) almost exactly evens out with the payoff for my trade-in....and pretty much matches Kelly Blue Book (although significantly less than NADA)........question; can anyone reccommend a 'good' (lowest cost/reputable) website for Honda parts and accessories?....again,,thanx..

Did you check the ad at the top of the page? H and A Accessories offers Honda accessories at decent prices - not many "parts," apart from filters.

According to my Galves, you indeed got accurate trade-in value on the Camry, so that's fine.

Sounds like the price of the truck was great, but they definitely made some back on the add-ons. So, balancing everything out, sounds fine to me.

For your information just purchased, in Maryland, Steel Blue Pilot EX-L with navigation, cargo liner, wheel locks, roof cross bars and rear mud guards. No trade-in and independant financing.

    $30,491.39 + 515 dest. + 245 ttl + 1550.32 tax for a total of $32,801.71.

While it can be true that folks get raked on trades when they get a great new price, it's not always true as your case demonstrates. As one of the posters after you said, your trade was accurately valued and thus your new price is also a true figure. Yes, you might have paid a bit much on a couple of the accessories but, overall, it seems like a fine deal.

I'm going through the same thing right now except my transaction will involve 2 vehicles being traded - what a headache! However, having now gotten figures from multiple stores in two markets, the total being offered for both is always very, very close (if not identical) so I have been able to establish true trade value.

Compare accessory prices using the websites of H and A Accessories and College Hills Honda.

A dealer is running a lease special at $306/month with $1999 due at signing, 36 month, 12,000 miles per year for 2005 EX. Is this a good price?

Does anyone know what they typically lease for? Thanks.

as I stated in a recent post, I purchased my Pilot and am going to 'deal with' the F+I guy tomorrow.....I feel I did my homework..with the exception of warranties.....I plan on keeping the vehicle..give or take..4 or 5 years....Honda Cares' warranty lists for 1200 (?they stated it's 200 off the 'regular' price..I know I can haggle with the F+I guy...but aren't even sure if I really want or need to buy one...they offer Honda Care or a third party API (Automotive Profesionals, Inc. out of Rolling Meadows, Illinois..any suggestions? ..personal choice, I know..but is anyone familiar with either of these warranties?..could I or should I do better with an 'online third party' warrranty?...any suggestions?..thanx again....
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Go with Honda Care - no question about it. Their best warranty (7 years/100,000 miles/zero deductible) is available from several Honda dealers for less than $1100 (do a search on these boards-there is a topic devoted to extended warranties). They offer other coverage and it sounds like you might be interested in one that is not as long and should cost well under $1000.

Has anyone had any experience with cheapesthondaparts.com, they seem to be cheaper then H & A Accessories. For example their price is 83.30 for all season mats vs. 94.80 at H & A.

    Need more info...

    What is the:

Selling price of the car (capitalized cost)?
    Money factor?
    Fees?
    Deposit?
What does the 2K cover? Is it a cap. cost reduction or does it cover 1st payment, TTL, deposit, etc?

You need to know all of this to understand if you are getting a good deal.

Let us know and we will let you know :)

Got our new Pilot EX yesterday just outside Philadelphia.
$29,200+ taxes and tags. (Total OTD: $30,989)
Seems high but this price includes:
DVD system + installation (which I did not know has to be purchased separately in the EX and can not be factory installed). So, essentially deduct $1,500 from the purchase price for comparison sake to $27,700, or $250 above invoice.
    Roof racks + installation
    Title fee
All the associated fees like destination charge, paperwork etc.
3.29% financing (I'll jump whenever Honda gives a break on their financing)
  • creddycreddy Member Posts: 8
    Hi Hurlz..
I am also looking to get a Pilot EX with Leather and DVD system.. can you tell me where you got this deal ????

Do you know what could be a lowest price for Pilot EX basic including destination? I wll try the lisle Honda soon.
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
I paid 28,700 out the door. Tax was 3.17 %.

    Processing was $289.

Wheel locks, mud guards, door and fender protectors, and the ever popular pin stripes.

    That stuff was around $250

    Subtract $515 for destination.

It can be done, I did all mine on line.

Oh, also got the 3.29 financing.

I am very happy with the deal.

I went to circuit city and had the Sony Rear TV installed for about $1040? w/tax and inst.

The car (only) price was $26569.09 - and it appears that included Dest.
Add processing, VA tax, County sales tax, on-line registration, tags for 2 years.

And, it was 27798.00 Out the door.

I want to thank all those who have posted their buying prices/experiences on this forum. The information provided has been extremely helpful, and I would like to return the favor.

Last night my wife and I closed a deal on a 2005 Pilot LX at a northern California dealership. We did not trade in any vehicles.

Here is the rough breakdown of price:
Vehicle Sticker: $27,865 (plus they had some bogus $3000 markup)
    Invoice: $25,123

My out-the-door price which included the 7yr/75K/$0 deductible Honda Care warranty and the cargo liner (MSRP around $200): $27,810

Breakdown (due to my rounding these may be off by a dollar or two)
    - Vehicle: $24,870
    - Sales Tax (7.5%): $1866
    - Warranty: $800
    - CA State Fees (title, license, tire): $230
    - Doc Prep Fee: $45
    - Liner: $0

The vehicle had slightly over 200 miles on the odometer (vehicle was on this lot due to a dealer trade from a distant dealership, so I knew this was not the test drive vehicle with 200 abusive miles on it). If I wanted a new one off the truck, the price would have been $27,900 out-the-door.

Here are a couple points which I have learned from this forum and from previous mistakes at the dealership:

    - Ask for an out-the-door price which includes EVERY Accessory, warranty, etc. that you want on the vehicle. Dealing at $X over/under invoice means that after you complete Round 1 of haggling with the salesperson that you will still have to deal with Round 2 with the finance person (normally by this time you just want to sign the papers and go home).

    - If the dealer asks for more money and you decide to offer more money, make sure that you also ask for something (free oil changes, an accessory, the shop manual, etc.). The worst they can say is no. And it's only fair that if you give something that you should get something in return.

    - And most importantly, if you and someone else goes to make the deal, make sure you are both on the same page. If one of you gets up to leave, it looks pretty bad if the other person tries to mend the situation with the salesperson. If they want your business, they will call you back to the dealing table. If they let you go, you probably walked away from a bad deal anyways.

I'm in the final process of negotiating for an EX-L in Redrock. This is my current quote from Sheehy in No. VA. (I'm a MD resident.)

Here is the price break down:

Selling price of the Pilot EXL is $28,494.12
    Destination charge $515.00
    Processing fees $289.00
    Fog lights $677.00
    Running boards $400.00
    Back up sensor $731.00
    Maryland tax @ 5% $1,555.30
    Business Sales (VA) tax @ .17% $52.88
    Maryland Tags, and registration $246.00

    Grand total $32,960.30

What do you think? I wrote back and asked them to meet another dealers price for the fog lights and sensors which would save another $155. Also included in this deal are mud guards, wheel locks, and pinstriping (which I don't want).
  • chuminthewaterchuminthewater Member Posts: 91
And see what they can supposedly do for you (on line of course).

Ourisman claimed that they'd take care of me (I do know that they only charge a $100 BS fee, versus the $289).

Personally, I think that running boards are more of a hindrence (I had them on my last 2 SUVs) great for little kids or older folks) - I'd try w/o and see how it goes, if you need them I think the install is pretty easy (not sure though), and ebay has them for very little.

Same w/ fog lights - I had them and seldom ever used them.

If you are looking at the paint/interior deal - they will try to sell it to you for way too much (we passed on it), they have A LOT OF ROOM ON THIS PACKAGE, that said, maybe you could get the running boards for 'free' if you took the deal. But in the end, it will cost you more - unless you want that paint'interior protection (add quotes as you see fit!).

Anyway, get a firm commitment from a local (MD) dealer and whichever one is better - I'd say you are near the end of the line.

Is your car only quote under invoice? And if so, by how much?

Finally, I did not and would not play a 'ping pong' match between dueling dealers - I took my best quote - which magically dropped by over $700 to SHeehy, and asked them to beat it, they did buy about another $100.

    - That was about $400 less than their initial offer.

So it was pretty smooth and simple, with not too much back and forth necessary.

PS: Can you email me? I am curious as to who your salesman is. No big deal if you choose not to.
  • jse107jse107 Member Posts: 8
This was my best offer, although Herson's offered $300 under invoice (plus TTL etc.). Sheehy just e-mailed me and said they would match the price on the accessories. I am not interested in any other packages or the extended warranty. We are getting the running boards because we do have a small child and I am vertically challenged myself. $400 for running boards is about what I could get them at at cheapesthondaparts.com. with shipping so I feel pretty good about that price.

Criswell basically told me that they couldn't match the deal (but I should come in anyways...). I guess the drive from Gaithersburg to Alexandria will be worth it. Might be picking it up tonight!

    I'll e-mail you with the salesman's name.
  • normkolnormkol Member Posts: 135
I picked up my EXL from Staten Island Honda last night. $30,000 for the car, $199 prep and documentation.

When I asked for the best deal on financing, they came up with a package that included 5yr/60k HondaCare plus an etching package for $2,000. That came with a 3.49% rate. I showed them the prices from Curry Honda, on the internet, and we ended up at 6yr/100k $0 deductible, the etching and the 3.49% rate for $1450. I didn't particularly want the etching, but I understand I should get an insurance break for it.

Not the greatest prices, but I'm satisfied.

Good luck - if you are happy when it's over, then the drive is worth it.

I was happy when I left, for me it was worth it.

I know some of what you mean, as about 2 cars ago I bought a Mitsu in MD. I admit it was a bit of a pain, but in the end I saved around $600 by doing it - so I was happy in the end.

Good Luck - let me know how it goes, and try the car w/o the steps - just to see, if you need them, you need them but, if you don't well they won't be in your way.

I was not aware that there was a 7year 80K mile Honda Care policy. Does your contract say "Honda Care" or something else? I see one for 7/75 and 7/100. The going price for the 7/75 should be right around US$1,000.

If you paid $1,600 then you got the shaft. I would look into canceling it ASAP and buying another one for $600 less.

Also, $500 for GAP insurance is crazy; you really don't need it - pure dealer profit. And if you really want it call your insurance agent; it won't be $500!

Planet Honda in Union NJ. Spoke with several dealers, and I don't have my list with me, but they were at $27990. Not includes taxes, fees, etc. Did include free tire plan, and extra motor warranty free, but I don't know if it's legit. Is your price including all? If so, please email me back.

If you're willing to go to Brooklyn, there is a dealer there charging $27450 (extra's not included yet) and claims that he has cars currently available in house.
  • normkolnormkol Member Posts: 135
I never said it included anything except destination. If it included the NYC 8.625% tax, that would be a GREAT deal.
  • sunil_bondsunil_bond Member Posts: 7
You are right, it is 7 yr/75K. It seems, the price of the warranty in Florida is regulated, all the 5 HONDA dealers I enquired with, about the warranty, quoted me the exact same price. I agree the GAP fee is ridiculous.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
I don't know about the price being regulated on the warranty. maybe an unofficial gentlemen's agreement between the dealers.

However, you don't have to buy in Florida. Its a Honda factory extended warranty, so it doesn't matter who you buy it from. We bought ours from a dealer out of state via fax and phone because our local dealer wouldn't touch the price.

I bought a Sage Brush Pearl Pilot EXL-RES last night. I did about a week of comparison shopping via internet quotes. I checked with all the dealers in the Kansas City area as well as Omaha and one in Dallas. Lee's Summit Honda had the best. They were very easy to work with. They were around $1500 less than the dealer in my town who tried to make me feel bad by saying they pay the "Invoice" price and that they are barely scraping by. It pays to compare.

$30,549 including Destination and Wheel Locks
    $150 Doc fee

We purchased the Honda Extended Warranty 6 yr/75k. They had a deal where you received a lower interest rate from Honda if you purchased it. We thought it would probably be wise with all of the electronics that are on the vehicle. I'm quite sure a new flip down monitor would pay for the warranty price if it ever went bad.
  • depdep Member Posts: 79
You can purchase your Honda Care plan from any US Honda dealer.

There are several on-line dealers that will sell you the exact same plan for under $1,000!

Check it out and save some cash if you can still get out of your current one.

Look for my post in the lease section, I got the EXL for 366+tax a month. Inception 615 + first month, 36 months, 15k miles per month.
Dou you have a lease calculator?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, actually you do have to buy the warranty from a Florida dealer as the Sunshine State treats an extended warranty as insurance. The end result is no competition and high prices.

If you try to buy from a dealer outside of Florida they will tell you they can't make the sale.

Why is it that any business so "regulated" inevitably results in higher prices for consumers?
  • depdep Member Posts: 79
    I did NOT know that!!

Can't you just give them a billing/mailing address in another state; say a friend house and then just 'move' a couple of months later?

    -D
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It's hard to say - the VIN goes into Honda's customer database at the time of sale and would, presumably, show the purchaser's address. Who knows if another dealer would check this prior to selling an extended warranty. My guess is that they would check the database because they need to determine the original in-service date to calculate the dates of coverage for the extended warranty.
