I did see that Grand Honda has the same car for $26,900 plus $53 doc fees which is about $900 less than I paid, so I'm not saying I got the BEST deal around or anything, but pretty good vs the other bids I received via fax/email. It is painful to see people in other states paying so much less taxes (3% etc) vs my TN taxes (7% +/-) but that's nothing I can change easily and we have no state income tax so I come out ahead in the end, I think.
How do you figure $27,600 is the MSRP? I'll happily admit that I'm fairly new to all this, first new car purchase etc...
And various friends/family are impressed enough with the price I got they are hoping to enlist my help when they buy for a percentage of the savings.
I'll never understand why people come to these forums after they have bought a new car and ask if they paid "too much". I mean, why do this to yourself? I've noticed that, without fail, someone will tell of a "better deal" somewhere else. Enjoy!
No matter what kind of deal you get on a new car, someone is bound to have gotten a better deal somewhere else. Don't do this to yourself, people! Enjoy your Hondas.
Dealing over the internet with MP is the only way to go; no games and no surprises. No other dealer in NC or VA could match the price so I paid $560 to have the Pilot shipped by MP to Virginia, my daughter's house. I then drove it home to NC.
The shipment was in a closed trailer by a very professional individual. The Pilot arrived in showroom condition. The internet manager at MP was a delight to deal with. I cant help believing that this way of buying vehicles will soon be the primary mode for most folks. When I ran the MP quote by other dealers they generally advised me that it couldn't be a real, out the door price. It was.
Forget a "ballpark", just send your emails/faxes and see what you get. Make sure you include Mike Pruitt, Jacobs Twin, and some other Ohio/Chicago Hondas in your requests for bids as it seems they have great prices. Unless you are in the area, you will need to pay to fly there and drive home, or have the car shipped, so factor that into your bids and take the best one.
Also, you need to post "your area" for anyone to comment on how reasonable your prices are...
2004Pilot EX-L: 28260 (515 dest included)
2005Pilot EX-L: 28894+515=29409 (edmunds invoice+dest)
Are these price any good?
For the 2004 model, understably the dealer is eager to move the inventory and willing to cut price.
It seems not too hard to get invoice these days for a '05 Pilot. Any comments?
Edit: any major diff between '04 and '05 Pilot?
The price was $29,200 + TTL at Menlo Honda in Redwood City, CA.
Through AAA and Costco's car purchasing programs, I filled out a form to request a quote for the EXL, specified my area (for the AAA form, I used a zip code in Sacramento, which cast a much wider net than using my actual Bay Area zip code) and sat back and watched the quotes come in. I took the lowest, negotiated $100 off, and we had a deal. I never even spoke to the salesperson until we had settled on a price and I knew which color cars were on the lot with number of miles each.
If anyone is interested in the salesperson's contact email, please feel free to email me privately. Happy shopping!
What's New for 2005
The Pilot receives a new 250-hp engine for 2005, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.
I got a quote of $29498 for 2005 EX-L in SF bay area but hadn't started working the dealers against each other. Sounds like Invoice or a little under is a good price. I just got a 2004 EX-L for $2100 less than 2005 invoice price. I may have been able to get it a little cheaper but I was happy with the price. From reading previous posts, 27100-27500 is about right for 2004 EX-L.
the dealer with the '04 EXL is desperate getting rid of it as they say they won't get more '05 unless all '04 are cleared.
Can anyone comment how useful is the feature "vehicle stability control?" I had an accident recently and am now paranoid about safety.
The special internet price for the EXL is 29909.00 plus 3% tax, 61.00 tag, and 398.00 document fee.
Crown Honda in Durham and Greeenboro offered 29,900 plus 3% tax, 61.00 tag, and 398.00 document fee, plus:
- Tires for life as long as your routine service is performed at Crown Honda
- 90 Days Ding Free
- Six free vehicle details.

fog lights $589, rear mud guards $89, cargo cover $147, running boards $625.
The price for the fog lights is really high compared to the Toyota Highlander, which cost less than $100.

Flow Honda in Winston Salem:
29,250 plus tax, tags, and fees. The breakdown is 29250 + 877(tax), 349(doc fee), 57(new tag).
Honda of Concord: 29,399 plus tax, tags, and fees.
A couple e-mails just saved me $700 vs. what the local dealers were offering for the EXL.
Doc Fee (BS fee they charge for Motor vehicle transactions, registration, plates, etc). On my last 3 cars this was $129, $159, $95. The dealer deserves to charge for providing this service but $399 is unreasonable talk them down to $99.
Window Etching (Big time BS fee for etching an ID # on your windows). One dealer wrote this up as $299 for Theft Protection. In New York City the local police pricent provides this service for FREE.
Extended Warranty (BS or NO BS it is negotiable), I originally had this added to my Pilot purchase last week, but after doing some research thru edmunds and other sites I cancelled it the next day without any penalty. Read up on it first and decide if it is something you need. You DON'T have to get it at time of purchase and IT IS negotiable. After reading the articles and messages on Edmunds I could not make a decision weather or not this was a good thing or bad for me. check out a site called Hondacare for more info
Paint/Rust Protection (BS add ons) Most of these dealer offerd "Protection" packages are way overpriced and don't not offer any great benefit.

If interested I can give you the name of the dealers.
I got mine for $32,829 with some options for around $250.
If yes, sounds too good a deal. And in CA, car price is higher than East coast areas.
Please share it with others.
Fees
Dealer Processing $99.00
Tire Recycle Fee $2.00

Security Int $20.00
Registration $159.50
Temp Tags $15.00
Elec Reg $20.00
Total Fees $338.50
I wish I was more prepared to negotiate these fees, but after intense negotiation for the car price and since I had no idea what these are I simply paid them.
I thanks you in advance for any feed back and/or input. This will help me to prepare for my next purchase. In addition, I am hoping that other forum members who will soon be purchasing will benefit as well.
In any event, they didn't nick you for much so if you negotiated a good price prior, I wouldn't worry about it. Life's short, you've got your car, move on.
