The lowest price I've seen posted in this thread in the last 30 days or so was $27,100 for the same car. This is 2004 EX with Leather.

I did see that Grand Honda has the same car for $26,900 plus $53 doc fees which is about $900 less than I paid, so I'm not saying I got the BEST deal around or anything, but pretty good vs the other bids I received via fax/email. It is painful to see people in other states paying so much less taxes (3% etc) vs my TN taxes (7% +/-) but that's nothing I can change easily and we have no state income tax so I come out ahead in the end, I think.

How do you figure $27,600 is the MSRP? I'll happily admit that I'm fairly new to all this, first new car purchase etc...

And yes, I'm happy with my deal! I only buy cars about every 7-10 years (need to get rid of my 1995 Ford Probe GT now) so spending the extra $1800 to get a 2005 didn't make much sense given the changes between model years.

And various friends/family are impressed enough with the price I got they are hoping to enlist my help when they buy for a percentage of the savings.

After emailing and calling about 12 dealers in So. Cal, we ended up getting our 05 Pilot EX-L for $32100 OTD, price without tax & lic was 29.5K (I think it's 29.5 something). The dealer agreed to give us running board for free. Granted that we had to wait 2 1/2 hours for installation but it was worth it. If you don't want the running board the internet/fleet manager told me that he will give credit toward the price of the car. If you have any question about pricing do not hesitate to ask me, just remember I have done my homeworks for So. Cal only. Best Regard

I am in the market for new vehicle and the new honda pilot, base model is one of the selections. Looking to purchase one in the Phx Az. area. Wondering what dealer would be the best one to contact and what are the prices running for the pilot model, in the phx area. all comments welcome.thanks.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about an LX and not an EXL. You got an excellent deal. With all of the improvements in the 2005 models, it sounds like your dealer was desperate to get that 2004 out of their inventory. Of course, those improvements may not have been important to you.

I'll never understand why people come to these forums after they have bought a new car and ask if they paid "too much". I mean, why do this to yourself? I've noticed that, without fail, someone will tell of a "better deal" somewhere else. Enjoy!
  • wfaywfay Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the comments isell. I figured as much.

No matter what kind of deal you get on a new car, someone is bound to have gotten a better deal somewhere else. Don't do this to yourself, people! Enjoy your Hondas.

I was just catching up on messages, where in MA did you get this deal? I'm from Western MA and having no luck with lower pricing. I'm now searching the Springfield area for prices.

Just purchased a 2005 EX-L from Mike Pruitt(MP) in Akron, Ohio. Had been checking out this board for a month, good info, many thanks. Paid $450 over invoice and $125 for title and tags. Tax will be paid in North Carolina when I register it.
Dealing over the internet with MP is the only way to go; no games and no surprises. No other dealer in NC or VA could match the price so I paid $560 to have the Pilot shipped by MP to Virginia, my daughter's house. I then drove it home to NC.
The shipment was in a closed trailer by a very professional individual. The Pilot arrived in showroom condition. The internet manager at MP was a delight to deal with. I cant help believing that this way of buying vehicles will soon be the primary mode for most folks. When I ran the MP quote by other dealers they generally advised me that it couldn't be a real, out the door price. It was.

I'm thinking of buying an 05 pilot ex with leather. I haven't received any quotes yet but would like to start with a ballpark. Invoice plus $500, delivery and 2.9% taxes for my area comes to 30,776.$1000 over would be 31,290. Do these seem reasonable or am I dreaming.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
Any good deals in Atlanta? We are looking EX and EXL models only.
  • wfaywfay Member Posts: 6
I bought a 2004 EX with Leather, so I'm probably not much help, all my quotes were 2004s.

Forget a "ballpark", just send your emails/faxes and see what you get. Make sure you include Mike Pruitt, Jacobs Twin, and some other Ohio/Chicago Hondas in your requests for bids as it seems they have great prices. Unless you are in the area, you will need to pay to fly there and drive home, or have the car shipped, so factor that into your bids and take the best one.

Also, you need to post "your area" for anyone to comment on how reasonable your prices are...

I suggest visiting the Honda web site and get links to every Honda dealer within an area that you are willing to travel. Contact each dealer and ask for a quote. Once you get the quotes, you can use them for negotiating leverage. Just be sure that you are very specific about what you want and ensure that there will be no last minute surprises when you decide to visit a dealer.

Last week I picked up an EX-L (could have gotten any color) for 29409 (invoice) in central NJ. I e-mailed 5 dealers and they were all pretty close I went with the one that gave me the most $$ for my trade ins. Had a great experience at Kay Honda. NJ inventory seems to be high and prices are good
  • eric102eric102 Member Posts: 122
I noticed that the inventory in the Seattle area seems high also. One dealer had 63 Pilots, another 40. I haven't got any quotes yet, but it seems like invoice should be no problem.
  • dseekdseek Member Posts: 6
Got 2 quotes from NY metro & westchester,NY area:

    2004Pilot EX-L: 28260 (515 dest included)
    2005Pilot EX-L: 28894+515=29409 (edmunds invoice+dest)

    Are these price any good?

For the 2004 model, understably the dealer is eager to move the inventory and willing to cut price.

It seems not too hard to get invoice these days for a '05 Pilot. Any comments?

Edit: any major diff between '04 and '05 Pilot?

I just purchased an '05 Pilot EXL this weekend and wanted to post my experience and also express gratitude to everyone else who has posted before me. This was the best car buying experience I have ever had.

The price was $29,200 + TTL at Menlo Honda in Redwood City, CA.

Through AAA and Costco's car purchasing programs, I filled out a form to request a quote for the EXL, specified my area (for the AAA form, I used a zip code in Sacramento, which cast a much wider net than using my actual Bay Area zip code) and sat back and watched the quotes come in. I took the lowest, negotiated $100 off, and we had a deal. I never even spoke to the salesperson until we had settled on a price and I knew which color cars were on the lot with number of miles each.

If anyone is interested in the salesperson's contact email, please feel free to email me privately. Happy shopping!

From Edmunds Overview of 2005 Pilot..

    What's New for 2005
The Pilot receives a new 250-hp engine for 2005, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

I got a quote of $29498 for 2005 EX-L in SF bay area but hadn't started working the dealers against each other. Sounds like Invoice or a little under is a good price. I just got a 2004 EX-L for $2100 less than 2005 invoice price. I may have been able to get it a little cheaper but I was happy with the price. From reading previous posts, 27100-27500 is about right for 2004 EX-L.
  • dseekdseek Member Posts: 6
fredm4, thanks for the informative post.

the dealer with the '04 EXL is desperate getting rid of it as they say they won't get more '05 unless all '04 are cleared.

Can anyone comment how useful is the feature "vehicle stability control?" I had an accident recently and am now paranoid about safety.

I have gotten the following quote on a 2005 Pilot EXL from Autopark Honda in Cary, NC:

The special internet price for the EXL is 29909.00 plus 3% tax, 61.00 tag, and 398.00 document fee.

Crown Honda in Durham and Greeenboro offered 29,900 plus 3% tax, 61.00 tag, and 398.00 document fee, plus:
    - Tires for life as long as your routine service is performed at Crown Honda
    - 90 Days Ding Free
    - Six free vehicle details.

I just got two quotes from dealers in the So California area.

2005 Honda Pilot EX-L DVD Sagebrush Pearl
    Dealer 1: 31,057 + TTL
    Dealer 2: 31,257 + TTL

Seems a little high over what others are paying. Any recommended dealers in So Cali?

    Thanks!

Bought Touring Model, looking at second vehicle, Pilot, S2000,
    or Chrysler 300C.

Big difference, not sure which direction,
and Not sure if we can swing it this month.

With prices like these, it's hard to turn down.
$ 500 Over for New Pilot is a great deal.

    All it takes is money!!!

Hi folks, I am very close to get a Pilot. Just wondering what's the best finance rate for Pilot recently.

    Thanks.
  • fredm4fredm4 Member Posts: 2
Send a quote request from the Honda website to several dealers near you...Serramonte, Grace, Menlo, etc. Based on what others have posted you should be able to get one for invoice, maybe even less. If you don't mind an '04... and can find one.. you could get an EX-L for the price of an '05 EX.
  • tcp27705tcp27705 Member Posts: 14
4.75 is the current rate at my local credit union.
  • franklwfranklw Member Posts: 47
I have contacted many dealers in So. Cal.. The best price I got was about 31850 to 32100 OTD, which is about 29300 to 29600 (includes destination charge)before tax & lic.. I got my Pilot EX-L, with running board for 32100 OTD from Metro Honda in Montclair, CA. The fleet manager also offered to give me credits if I don't want the running board. Honda Santa Ana gave me 31862 OTD (for San Diego tax of 7.75). If you want 04 Honda Pilot EX-L, you can get one from Power Honda for 27,260 incl. dest.(29659.14 OTD), only 2 red ones if you don't mind the color. I live in San Diego, hate all local dealers: either the price was too high (Cush Honda 31800 before tax & lic) or tried to get you to come in. Good Luck
  • sejinrosejinro Member Posts: 20
You paid $32,100 OTD for a Pilot EX-L, was that with DVD? Plus, I guess this question applies to all Pilot owners or possible owners, what are some popular accessories? Sports package? Mug guards? Etc?
  • tcp27705tcp27705 Member Posts: 14
I am considering the following accessories:
fog lights $589, rear mud guards $89, cargo cover $147, running boards $625.

The price for the fog lights is really high compared to the Toyota Highlander, which cost less than $100.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
i think that's really high for everything. $89 for mudguards?? Those are $30 online and take all of 20 minutes to install in your driveway. Cargo cover is $99. Looks like they are charging about $200 to install the running boards and another $200 to install fog lights. Check out any online dealer store. I just went to the one at the top of this page for quick reference.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
Can't believe those prices for the accessories you mentioned!!! Check the link on the top of this page. They are located in Cal. so shipping should not be to much and they are very fast. I'm not sure of the prices for some of the accessories you mentioned, but I know for sure that the rear mud guards are $30.
  • franklwfranklw Member Posts: 47
$32100 Pilot EX-L w/o DVD or Nav. If you look on KBB, the invoice was 29409 for this model. I thought paying 29560 for EX-L with running board is very reasonable at this time. You can negotiate the price of the car first, then ask dealer to give you good deal on accessories.
  • carsoncarson Member Posts: 8
I got a quote for 2005 Honda Pilot EXL with Nav. from local Honda dealership for $33,775.39 plus t,t,l. This seems high. What are others getting it for ? I live in Washington state.
  • danydany Member Posts: 1
I find carsdirect showing Pilots at $450 BELOW invoice in the Atlanta area. Funny, at carsdirect I find other area/zips showing them nearly at MSRP, although looks like those areas may still be trying to sell 2004s.
  • tcp27705tcp27705 Member Posts: 14
    More quotes from NC dealers:
    Flow Honda in Winston Salem:
29,250 plus tax, tags, and fees. The breakdown is 29250 + 877(tax), 349(doc fee), 57(new tag).

Honda of Concord: 29,399 plus tax, tags, and fees.

A couple e-mails just saved me $700 vs. what the local dealers were offering for the EXL.
  • djwingdjwing Member Posts: 1
I was negotiating with a dealer in Orange County, CA last night and they are offering a money factor of 0.00159. They said the residual after 3 years for a Pilot is 64%.
  • dprosadprosa Member Posts: 17
When considering the price offered by a dealer take note that not everything they put a $$ next is a valid fee

Doc Fee (BS fee they charge for Motor vehicle transactions, registration, plates, etc). On my last 3 cars this was $129, $159, $95. The dealer deserves to charge for providing this service but $399 is unreasonable talk them down to $99.

Window Etching (Big time BS fee for etching an ID # on your windows). One dealer wrote this up as $299 for Theft Protection. In New York City the local police pricent provides this service for FREE.

Extended Warranty (BS or NO BS it is negotiable), I originally had this added to my Pilot purchase last week, but after doing some research thru edmunds and other sites I cancelled it the next day without any penalty. Read up on it first and decide if it is something you need. You DON'T have to get it at time of purchase and IT IS negotiable. After reading the articles and messages on Edmunds I could not make a decision weather or not this was a good thing or bad for me. check out a site called Hondacare for more info

Paint/Rust Protection (BS add ons) Most of these dealer offerd "Protection" packages are way overpriced and don't not offer any great benefit.

    26,917 invoice
        515 destination charge

        288 dealer profit

In Portland, you will get it for $400 over invoice.

If interested I can give you the name of the dealers.

I got mine for $32,829 with some options for around $250.
  • forumforum Member Posts: 17
Hi Franklw, are you sure you have DVD with it?

If yes, sounds too good a deal. And in CA, car price is higher than East coast areas.

    Please share it with others.
  • dseekdseek Member Posts: 6
fisrt off, I want to thank everybdy who posted the purchase price. It made it a lot easier to negotiate price than otherwise: I got a '04 EX-L for 27450 (incl. dest) + ttl today in the NY metro area. the dealership happened to have the color I wanted (silver). I found it much easier to negotiate price for a '04 pilot at the end of the year.
  • franklwfranklw Member Posts: 47
Sorry, I did not realize the heading was for EX-L DVD, my Pilot EX-L comes w/o DVD. I did correct myself in post #3049.
  • carsoncarson Member Posts: 8
I have a quote for $32,590 for 2005 Honda Pilot EXL with navigation. I thought the cost on this vehicle was $31,206 so your cost above is more than $400 over invoice, unless I am incorrect. Please give me the names of the Portland dealers. Thanks

I purchase a Pilot EX in Maryland and I was charged the following:

    Fees
    Dealer Processing $99.00
    Tire Recycle Fee $2.00
    Title $23.00
    Security Int $20.00
    Registration $159.50
    Temp Tags $15.00
    Elec Reg $20.00
    Total Fees $338.50

I wish I was more prepared to negotiate these fees, but after intense negotiation for the car price and since I had no idea what these are I simply paid them.

I thanks you in advance for any feed back and/or input. This will help me to prepare for my next purchase. In addition, I am hoping that other forum members who will soon be purchasing will benefit as well.
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Looks like a mix of dealer tack-on fees along with the standard state license and registration fees. To get around this, I always tell the sales person that I want to negotiate on a +TTL basis - the price we discuss has to include everything except state fees for tax, title, and license. This has worked well for me.

In any event, they didn't nick you for much so if you negotiated a good price prior, I wouldn't worry about it. Life's short, you've got your car, move on.
