According the True-Cost-to-Own on Edmunds, for this car the sum of depreciation for three years is $8,728, and the sum of three-year financing is $3,935. So, total depreciation plus financing is $ $12,663, which divided by 36 months gives a monthly average of $351.75. Compared to this, $ 420 per month is too high. So, it is, in principle, not a good deal from a financial viewpoint. But, I have looked hard (in MD) for lease deals on AWD cars, and it is difficult to find them.

The 39 vs 36 months to me simply means that you will be out-of-warranty for three months.

Hope this helps you in making a decision.

    Hi Crusher99,

How did you get all the quotes via internet? I submitted all email quotes (some via Honda's official site dealer quote and most directly entered into the dealers' sites). All I get so far are emails from sales representives asking me to call their number to talk. No quote in email received yet. How did you get internet quotes from various dealers? Thanks.
  • eastwingeastwing Member Posts: 78
I don't know others, but I used Edmunds request a quote site to specify exactly what I wanted. This is what i wrote:

This model I am interested is

    2008 CR-V 4WD EX-L with Navigation

My color choice, in this order, is:

    Green Tea
    Borrego Beige
    Red
    Silver
    Glacier Blue

I can NOT go with white, black or royal blue.

Do you have this model in stock? If yes, could you please give me a quote of your best price? I can buy any time. If not, do you have information about when you will have this model I look for come in?

In addition, do you have special financial terms available? My credit score is [920+].

    Thanks a lot.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks eastwing,

Now I am getting some quotes via email. I guess their tactics are try to contact you personally first. After I responded and asking for internet quotes again, many of them did provide internet quotes. However, many quotes are not even broken down enough to tell whether they include destination charges (as you can tell, the quotes are nowhere near invoice or I would have guessed if they include destination).
  • crusher99crusher99 Member Posts: 7
    cp999,

I would suggest that you ask the dealers to provide you with their best price broken down as follows:

Base price + Destination + Documentation Fees = Total Price

You should limit your initial contact with the dealer to emails - their Internet dept does this all the time. Once you have a firm price from a dealer you can use that target price for the other dealers to beat if they want to sell you the car. You should only contact the dealer by phone or in person after you are comfortable that you have the best deal. By using email you also have proof to show the dealer that you have a specific price and that you are serious about making a deal. My dealer asked me to show him the email from the other dealer before he matched the price. Don't be shy about negotiating via email, you will certainly save yourself a lot of time and effort. The dealer's objective is to get you into the showroom so you have to play on his turf by his rules. The internet approach gives you more of an even playing field and a competitive bidding process which works to your advantage.

    Good Luck.

    Crusher99,
Thanks for the advices. After sending requests to around 10 dealers, I got about 5~6 quotes so far. I will certainly try to get all info before going into their showroom, as I have no intention of driving around to more than a couple of dealers. Unfortunately, I have a trade-in which will make things more complicated as I don't think I can get a quote on a trade-in before they look at it?

Just purchased New 07 CRV EX AWD w/out NAV, as equipped, no accessories, for $24.463 OTD. Selling price was $22,500 ....Bought in Northern CA from Winter Honda (internet department). I was in multiple communication with about 5 other dealers (all internet department); a lot of them said 24,600 was impossible to do, that no dealer would do it. Just keep waiting and keep asking for your price and one of the dealer will give it to you --- just got to not be in a rush thats all

I'd like to suggest a format for posting your Price Paid. This is helpful since the dealers tack on fees and fees vary from dealer to dealer. A dealer may give $200 off MSRP lower the price but then add on $200 for "other fees"....

    Description:
    MSRP (includes destination):
    Invoice (includes destination):
    Add-Ons: Cost + Description
    Tag Fee:
    Tax Fee:
    Dealer/Document Fees:
    Other Fees:
    --------
    OTD

    Thanks,

For those considering getting the navigation system. If the navigation system is the primary reason you are getting one then I would suggest that you reconsider.

"But this flare was moderate and short-lived; in 2011 and 2012, during the next solar maximum, flares are expected to be 10 times as intense and last much longer, causing signal drops of over 90 percent for several hours."

Now, in the above statement, no where does it state the frequency of the flares. So if it's twice a year, no big deal (I still wouldn't fly that day!). But if it happens once a week....

They are launching new/additional statilites but will the new systems be compatible with current receivers?

    Just Food for Thought,

You should also mention whether the deal was cash or finance. Many dealers will sell you close to invoice, and then make it up on the financing or push extended warranty. If you forego these, the deal is lost.
  • pete22pete22 Member Posts: 80
I was thinking that dealers might do that. Think an easy way around it is to take their financing and then pay it off within a month via either cash or outside financing such as a credit union. You would only take at most a 1 month finance charge.

Does anyone know what would be considered a good financial rate from Honda Financial Services? I am considering a 3 year loan. Thanks.

    Hi Everyone,

So I just got back from Boch after signing up for a 08 Civic LX ( 230/mo, 15K mi/yr, 36 months).

Oh ya, did I mention this was after lusting after an CR-V for the last week or so?

Anyway, I spent the last week contacting more than 18 dealers around Greater Boston and a few in New Hampshire via email. Based on this research, this may provide some insight into what dealers are doing or willing to do in terms of pricing for the CR-V. I was looking for a lease but you can still get an idea of what to look out for.

Email requests for quotes from dealers lead to internet only deals for an 08 CR-V LX (4wd). Internet prices were $20371 to mid $21K or so.

The per month payments were mostly around $300/mo, $315/mo, $330/mo, some all the way up to $350 or more!

Finally, I picked up the phone and the best deal I could've gotten was through Boch for $277/mo plus $671 due at signing. Nothing down. I wish I could've afforded it...The price was based on below invoice (a couple hundred buck apparently) - I think it was $20,567 w/ a money factor of .0028.

Hope that helps you guys still in the market.

Just give them a call. I did that when I purchased my CRV and they gave me the best rate they were offering and I was able to find a lower rate through my credit union and then the dealership found an even lower rate.

    Hi,

I looking to purchase a CRV in May. Do you think i will get a better discount price or if any by then. I live in NYC dealerships i plan to consult with is Plaza Honda, Paragon Honda, and Bay Ridge Honda has anyone every dealt with the dealers before?
  • charles12charles12 Member Posts: 79
Talked to 2 dealers for EX-L w/o navi. One offered 2% above invoce and one at invoice price, although no EX-L cars on the lot.

I was wondering if their invoice differs from edmunds invoice. That is what Toyota always does (such as TDA, holdback, other kind of fee), which makes me walk away from Toyota dealers.

I was also wondering if the CR-V is good for man from the exterior appearnce.

    Your opinion is highly appreciated.

Scott Robinson Honda in Torrence CA. Where we bought our 07... went to them 1st, (they are closest to our home) they would not commit to a price but advised me to go out & get the best deal I could get. After I did this & took the deal back to them they actually beat it by $100 which equaled $400 above invoice on 07 EX-L & this was December '06 when they were hot & on fire & selling all over the country at MSRP & above. so I would reccomend them highly

I just worked a deal for a Silver/Gray LX 2wd from Dobbs Honda in Memphis. $19502.00 including base, destination charge, some paint and stain protection and mud flaps. They wanted $20100 plus $350 for the mud flaps and $249 for the paint protection, but they ate that price and offered a $200 return Honda buyer (we bought a Fit in June) and $1600 discount, which brought it to the $20100 I referred to. Then they just ate the rest to make the sale. I pick it up tomorrow and have to decide if cash is the best deal. No one would give me a solid interest rate without doing the whole interview at the dealer, so I just walked out when we were looking.
    Any suggestions?

I am looking to purchase a 2008 CR-V with Navigation system. Either 2WD or AWD. Can anyone recommend any good Honda dealers in the NY/NJ? What price should I be looking to paid? Thx in advance.

Just a few thoughts I thought I would share:

The best price you can get in a any given area will vary from dealer to dealer every month. So, always shop around, don't let past experience with a dealer keep you from looking elsewhere. Two months ago I bought an 07 Civic from dealer A who had a lot in stock for a very good price and a few extras thrown in. Yesterday I bought a CR-V and that dealership could not give me a good price, but dealer B gave me a decent price on an 08. (I originally wanted to get an 07 for about 500 below invoice, but instead decided that for 400 more I would go for an 08 in the exact color I wanted and with less built-in depreciation

I also have to stress the importance of getting quotes and doing most of the initial haggling over the Internet. It will save you time and a lot of hassle if you go in with a maximum price in writing and bargain down from there. If the Internet sales rep tells you that you need to come in to get a price better than the initial offer, forget it, don't bother.

If possible, find out whether the Internet person is working on commission or for a flat rate plus bonuses. This will give you a better sense of what type of techniques and counteroffers will work best.

Use the dealer's website to get a sense of their inventory for the model you want. This will often not be completely accurate, but in general a dealer with more in stock will have more incentive to sell.

Before you begin face to face dealings, walk around and see what is on the dealer's lot. If every vehicle has dealer added options already installed and you don't want them, it may be better to go elsewhere.

Pay no attention to the Edmunds TMV price. That is how much you can expect to pay if you walk in and say "gee, MSRP is high, can you do better?" If a vehicle is in dealer stock and there isn't a waiting list to buy it, you should expect to pay below "invoice." Think of TMV more as the "if you pay more you are a complete and utter fool" price.

Keep in mind that any dealer added fees are taxable and hence part of the purchase price. The only reason to separate it is to make you think you paid less for the car.

I paid 20949 + tax and title. Not a bad price, not an amazing one.

Went to a dealership today and they had this car for 27k. I asked for a better price and he said there wasn't a lower price. I think it's a pretty good deal but I thought I would hit you guys up for your thoughts....
  • yakultspitsyakultspits Member Posts: 22
After sending out a bunch of emails, I think I've finished my search for an 08 EX-L AWD, no nav. The best offer I got from a local dealer was $26,000 including destination. That's about $500 over invoice according to Edmund's; not great, not terrible, which is more or less what I expected. Doc fee is $45 and various NY fees are about $180...plus taxes, of course :(
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
Do they have any in stock? I was told they will not be available in the Philly area until late November
  • yakultspitsyakultspits Member Posts: 22
No, it's not on the lot. My dealer says she's getting it in a swap with another. But I think she's just swapping orders right now, not actual vehicles just yet. I won't be needing to take delivery of the car until the new year anyway.

    I am purchasing a 2008 CRV AWD EX-L w/NAVI for my wife.

The car is expected to be in by Dec 5th. I am told that the first "batch" of the 2008 leather models are coming from Japan. Previously, I have always purchased accords and they have all been assemble in the USA. Does anyone know of the advantages or disadvantages of getting this top-of-the line CRV from Japan?
  • trojan36trojan36 Member Posts: 9
I would think that the Japan made unit would be better built. Can you tell us what you paid for the car? I am thinking of buying the same model. thx in advance.
  • goucher3goucher3 Member Posts: 9
The top trim level CR-Vs being sold in Japan and Korea have many more options than the U.S models your are getting. Some have xexon lights, auto rain sensing wipers, and push puton starts, etcs. and of course, they are more expensive.

Honda should know the statistical quality differences between the Ohio/Mexico Cr-Vs and the Japanese Cr-Vs but they usually keep them secret. (Japanese models are not necessary always better than the U.S ones) They also made some modifications to the 2008 models on some parts too, but they don't announce them either. There is a rumor that Honda changed suppliers for the some parts that go in the manifolds? and the 4wd differental systems.

Does any one have any ideas as to why the 08 CRV's are not yet showing up in the philly/south Jersey area or for that matter in the NY Pa NJ MD area. There doesn't seem to be an excess of 07's left so I'm not understanding this gap in supply.

Thanks for all the great info. I've been reading this board since June 07 and I'm sure it will help me to get the best price for what I would like to buy.
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
I hope you don't take their words seriously... Japanese Assembled 08 CRV EXL w/Nav are here a week ago... I got mine last week...
  • goucher3goucher3 Member Posts: 9
    where r u?
did the dealers in u r area had plenty?

wandafonda is right that no dealers in Md area has them yet and it seems the dealers in my area can't give me a satisfactory answer.
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
I'm in Indiana... there's still not many here, probably around 1 in only about 2-3 dealers that I know of. I got mine pre ordered a long time ago(or it seems).

I think the supply will only stabilized once the Ohio factory starts producing the EXL CRVs.

jjoslin, I purchased a 2008 EX AWD at Gurley Leep 2 weeks ago for $30 over invoice ($23,121)(they were having a 30 year anniversary special). I believe that promotion expired October 31.
  • jjoslinjjoslin Member Posts: 6
thanks amdgrd. I tried contacting them but their promotion is over. You got a very nice price. I think I should wait till the end of this month to get a better deal. How was your experience with Basney?
  • amdgrdamdgrd Member Posts: 4
jjoslin, I had no trouble with Gurley Leep. I would recommend getting online quotes from Chicago area dealers (larger volume dealers) and use that as a negotiating tool. I did this on other cars I purchased with them and they usually came in close to those quotes.
  • paradotparadot Member Posts: 3
Just wondering, how you can get such low price and get free upgrades? The tints on front window will be made by local dealer or honda factory? Because I also need this, and dealder told the manufacture can't do this.Thank you!

Hi, where is your place, because I was told mine is still on the way to come in mid late Nov, and I have already made deposit of my car one and half month ago. Cheated by the dealer. :((
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
I just bought an 08 EX at Piazza Honda in Langhorne, PA. They have plenty coming in except for the EX-L's that aren't coming in until late this month or early December. It seems that the mid west and west coasts get the EX-L's first

  • hdjcpahdjcpa Member Posts: 15
I am not sure of the exact purchase price yet, but I believe it to be a liitle more than dealer invoice amount. I trust the dealership and have purchased all my hondas from them in the past 20 years. They are the best dealership in my area. Their service is very, very great.
  • cp999cp999 Member Posts: 13
Not sure what you are talking about, but there are plenty of 2008 Honda CR-V in the NY metro area. Unless you are talking about the 2008 EX-L, then there are none around. I bought a 2008 LX 4WD last week in NJ. You can check the online inventory of various dealers, there aren't many 2007 models left, but plenty of 2008.
  • wandafondawandafonda Member Posts: 12
The 2008 EXL 4wd with Nav (Glacier Blue) is what I'm looking for so that explains why I can't find 'em near me (Burlington County NJ). I've been checking the online inventories and have been using email solicitations to dealers with out any luck. I'm patient and I know they are on the way so I will just have to wait them out. When I know that they are in I will call the sales managers with my offer and see who will do my deal.

    Thanks for the clarification.
