that's a great deal. Invoice price is $24822 (+$635 dest. fee). Go for it if they have it in the color you want. They might not offer the same price if they don't have it in stock and have to order it for you - some may do it if you pay a deposit upfront..
    Good luck!

so pretty painless. I'll order one today, that's badly needed. Scared to park my CRV in malls, wondering who'll dent the door!

Information between participants of Edmunds CarSpace helps Hyundai buyers negotiate very beneficial purchase with rebates, etc OTD for much less than CRVs which I prefer. Take a look at the postings at
    http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.eea4b83/1878

Prices on "CarSpace Prices Paid" for Honda CRVs only speak of "dealer invoice" to compute purchase prices instead of "factory invoice with Honda manufacturer's logo" as suggested by Consumer Reports in its monthly magazine.

Will those of you who know, please tell us of Honda "factory invoice" locations on the net? Thanks very much.

I got a quote for 2008 Honda CR-V LX FWD in SC as below

    19257(invoice)+635(destination)+300(tax)+75(title)+199(doc fee)=20,466(OTD)

I am wondering if I can get it below Edmund invoice. Also I don't know how this guy calculate the tax. Isn't the tax should be SC sales tax? :confuse: :confuse: How come it is only $300.

Please somebody tell me. Thanks.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
Sales tax in SC is capped at 300 dollars

that's a great deal. Invoice price is $24822 (+$635 dest. fee).

Where did you get those prices from? They are much higher than Edmunds.

Dealer invoice on 4WD EX-L is $25,456 including dest.

    Hi guys,

I'm in Toronto, Canada. Looking for dealers in the US willing to sell a new CR-V to a Canadian. This vehicle will be exported to Canada for my personal use. The prices up here are ridiculous.... Base LX model here starts around $28,000.

Does anyone know any dealers that would be willing to deal?

I would prefer the New York area... but will travel further if necessary.

    Thanks

I think you're going to have problems. Back in 1999, when 2nd generation Odysseys were new, and demand and prices were very high in the U.S. relative to Canada, I looked into buying one in Canada and bringing it into the U.S. I can't guarantee this is all true today, but back then:

    1) The Honda dealer franchise agreement did not permit either U.S or Canada dealers to sell new vehicles to customers that intended to register them in a different country. It's unlikely you'll find a dealer willing to risk losing their franchise to sell to you.

    2) New Hondas sold in the U.S. then titled in Canada, or vice-versa, did not qualify for either a U.S. Honda warranty OR a Canada Honda warranty. The only option was a third party warranty.

Again, I can't guarantee the above is correct now, but I suspect you're going to find you're better off buying a vehicle in Canada that you think is fairly priced.

The posts there pretty much confirm what I wrote above. Honda does not want Canadians buying U.S. vehicles and does everything they can to make this difficult and unpalatable. Different from Toyota.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
I have to respectfully disagree with your assertions.

There ARE dealers selling to Canadians. If you are saving anywhere from 10000-15000 dollars, any repair work that might need to be done, just put 1000 dollars in a bank account and use that to pay for the repairs OR there are 3rd party warranties out there that could be had for 1000 dollars for 5 years - 100000km (60000 miles). Anyhow, discussion should continue in proper forum......
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
I didn't say no U.S. Honda dealers would sell to Canadians, just that they are few and far between, as they are in violation of the franchise agreement.

If you are so sure there are U.S. Honda dealers selling to Candians how about citing one, to help the poster who asked?

I DID mention the third party warranty option. But third party warranties do not cover repairs that would have been covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If you have a powertrain failure within the first three years, the $1000 "five year" third party warranty you refer to will not cover it.

Most consumers will not want to be "self insured" for major repairs for the first three years of owning a new car, even a Honda.

I must get bugged five times a day from Canadians wanting me to sell them new Hondas.

We can't do this and arguing with me won't help.

For all I know, there might be Honda dealers willing to risk their businesses by selling to Canada but that would seem foolish to me.

I know if I were a Canadian dealer trying to pay the bills, it wouldn't make me very happy to see my customers going over the border to buy cars.

All these places were willing to sell for that price:
    San Leandro Honda
    Dublin Honda
    San Francisco Honda
    Grace Honda

Some didn't have our color, had slight imperfection, and/or options.

Don't forget to ask for the wheel locks too! :shades:

Wanted: a new 2008 CRV EX FWD 2.4L 4 cyl 5A; no additional options; light color (not white). Research on Edmunds.com lists the invoice price as $21,344 without any "cash to dealer" (as is offered toward the Honda Pilot at $24,966 minus $3500).

As some posts have listed here a price below invoice, does anyone know of an available CRV as described above which could be trucked to another location (preferably but not necessarily to the SE USA)?

Hope this is not too late. I just ordered one from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City for $26,604 + tax and tags. All I did was request a quote from Edmunds.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
This is a great price if that is what you will pay out the door before sales tax and tags.

A word of caution, beware of any add ons when the vehicle will arrives i.e. appearance package, oops! we forgot to charge you processing fee, destination, etc.
  • tuxcrvtuxcrv Member Posts: 2
Yeah ... the car will be a clean car, no mud flap, stripes whatsoever. The price already includes destination and whatever processing fee they had.

I was pretty impressed with the quote, that is why I didn't go to other dealers as they quoted me almost a $1000 more. it will be too much work to work it down. And I don't want to take this offer to just get $50 off from somewhere else as I had good service experience with this dealership for a Honda that I own before.

The process was quite painless, just went in, took a test drive, tried to lower it some but they said they don't negotiate on internet quoted price. I thought since the price is very competitive to what I have research so I just bought the car there. They had quite a few colors there but didn't have the silver/black combo and the dealer will swap one with other dealers. Should be here in a week or two.

My total OTD price is $28,442 (6% tax + $222 tags)
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
Congratulations, that is a great price !

    Hello Everybody,

I am in the process to buy a car to be used as a company/private car. I am now facing a very difficult choice (at least for me!) and I would like to have as many inputs as possible so I can make the right/better choice. I need to pick between the 2 following cars:

    Car 1: Suzuki SX4 Crossover 2008 – Brand new!
    • 2WD
    • Normally loaded
    • 3 Yrs warranty unlimited miles/km
    • $16,000.00

Car 2: Honda CRV 2005 – Used car in very good condition
    • 4WD
    • Fully Loaded (Leather seats, CD Changer and the whole nine yard!)
    • Sun roof
    • NO WARRANTY WHAT SO EVER
    • $15,500.00

As you see the price is pretty much the same and this is why I need your help.

What would you do and why?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

    Jonathan

Yes! I think $21726 is a good deal for a EX, it is the lowest I've seen on this site. The best S.F.bay area deal I can get is $22,192 plus fee's tax,etc.(24,410 otd). One question though! will you not have to pay tax when you come to tag it in your home state?
  • cyrusdcyrusd Member Posts: 25
    I'm Houston, TX.

The lowest quote for a 2008 EX 2WD I received is $22,050. The OTD will be slightly below $23,700.
  • carlukokcarlukok Member Posts: 7
Yeah thanks, when 2 dealers Dont call you back to match/beat the price you have is when you have hit the best rock bottom imo.
One was petty put out that they saw we had all the aces,I guess they have it their way most of the time.
Interestingly I called Patton honda thay had a LX on ebay and they pro rated the EX that I wanted....the local guys can match it and there you go

Does anyone know what profit the dealer has,if any, when he sells a car for $22,091 including destination and doc fee?

So lets see if the dealership will play ball or not once we go in and consummate the deal :)

    Jonathan,

Just coming out is the new model Subaru 2009 Forester. Many sources speak highly of Subaru. This model seems competitive with the Honda 2008 CRV. Honda has succeeded because of its quality control and foreseeing of customer's desires.

Loaded vehicles only have more things to go wrong and warranties if available carefully avoid covering all those gadgets. One electric window can cost more than $300.

My reality check! With the history of our present world wide financial crisis and having experienced such in the past, I'd only buy new within my price range and needs. We're in for a rough ride and everyone should recognize one's own limits to survive.

Looking at the daily unemployment, foreclosure, bankruptcy, Bears Stearn figures... then I pull in my belt and live within my financial reality... and I know I'll be all right.

Using this blog for information is our gift to one another.

    Thanks.

It seems nobody interested in LX.

For new car, I check the dmv website. Title is $15, tag is $24. I don't know why they charge $74 for title/tag. Is there anything else we need to do? :confuse: :confuse: :confuse:

    ^^ no your welcome :)

I think after speaking to another dealer their holdback portion is sacred and would not go lower, holdback is $450 and would be their profit so I think that is fair espacially for a vehicle like a CRV...Oh and I think the LX is just fine and probably the best "value" but we wanted a few bells,or my wife did!

    Cliff notes?

I,m sure Toyota and Honda are recommended both.

We drove the Rav4 and found it ok interior just average, the Honda felt just more substantial.

I currently have an 05 XTerra. I like the XTerra but would like better mileage. I'm interested in the CRV, but I have a few concerns. Is there a big difference in cargo space? I need room in the back for 2 sets of golf clubs and push carts. I also want to be able to put my kayak on top and bike on back. I live in Maine so it needs to be good in the snow. I don't do much off road driving other than my dirt driveway and towing is not an issue for me. I like the looks of the CRV and I'd love to have the sunroof and premium stereo like I had in my old Pathfinder. I'd love to hear from people who have driven both the XTerra and CRV or have similar driving and space issues.
  • hockeyfoolhockeyfool Member Posts: 30
I haven't driven an Xterra, but I do own a CRV and have experience with golf clubs in back and using the roof rack.

I can put my set of clubs width wise in the back without too much problem. I use a stand bag and with my driver in the bag it fits with about a 1/2" to spare (standard length driver), but only at the very back of the cargo area. Any further forward and there is a jog inward which does not leave enough width to fit clubs. You could probably stack two bags on top of each other if necessary though at the back. As far as putting two carts and two set of clubs in you would likely have to put the back seats down.

As far as the roof rack goes, I would be concerned about putting anything too long up top. My reason being that the distance between the cross bars is not adjustable and they are not very far apart. So for long items, you end up with a lot of over hang beyond the front and back of bars. I have an 8' surfboard that I put on my rack and I wouldn't go any longer than that. BTW - with that long of a load you can only open the back hatch about half way before hitting what is on the roof. If you want information on installing a Yakima rack on CRV search for one of my old posts.

All this being said, I love my CRV. It does exactly what I bought it for - very good handling in wet, snowy conditions, provides okay milage for commuting (24 mpg over 5k miles of mixed driving) and provides decent utility for my activities - golf, hockey, surfing, biking. I surf in the winter and one of the key considerations for me was to have a vehicle that has enough room in the back to change and CRV fits the bill.

Bottom line: CRV does a lot of different things well, not necessarily great. You will need to decide what is more important - high milage, superior utility or some sort of compromise on both. IMO I think the CRV falls in the middle zone which works perfectly for me. (I've owned civics, odyssey and an Isuzu trooper, so I've been at both ends of the spectrum).

    Good luck.

What is a target price that I should be looking for (before taxes) on a 2wd EX-L No Nav in northern California (Sacramento area)? I visited one Honda dealership this week and they had a lot of these vehicles sitting on the lot, and not a lot of customers--didn't know if that was indicative of what's going on in the general economy, or whether it was just a slow day. I didn't see any incentives or rebates being offered on the CRVs (Edmunds), so my guess is that Honda believes this vehicle can "stand on it's own" without any marketing assistance. I'm counting on the information in this forum to help guide me in this process. Thanks for any help!

I bought a 2008 EX4WD Honda CR-V for 25,336 OTD includes tax, doc fee, DMV fees, sticker. salesman was personable, courteous and professions. The Financial officer pushed on add ons and being naive and new to this type of experience I fell for it. Has anyone experienced this? Lesson learned, go in with your own financing if you can and skip all that DRAMA. of course, if you are all up for the add ons then go for it. They pushed for lojack, simoniz, extended warranty, venture shield and tire protection. I held firm on most but did fall for the venture shield and simoniz only to discover that they were high priced and really not needed.

Also, did I pay a good price?
  • darkshierdarkshier Member Posts: 7
What city and state did you purchase the CRV Newlife? Also, what was the cost of those extras? I am looking at getting a 4wdEX here in the Bay Area and I am not trying to pay more than $24.5k out the door.
  • newlife0226newlife0226 Member Posts: 3
Worcester, MASS. Here is the breakdown 595 for lojack 1,800 for extended warranty 7 yr 100k miles, 595 for simoniz, 695 for venture shield, 488 for tire warranty. the final settlement for car alone was 23,750. Hope this helps you. I love my car and am putting aside the buying experience and enjoying the ride.
  • darkshierdarkshier Member Posts: 7
Thank you so much for the info. It really helps all of us out, especially people like me who have yet to make a purchase! Thanks again!
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Dealer invoice for 4WD EX, including destination but before tax, is $23,091. If the $23,750 you paid includes the sales tax, that is a very good price. If it doesn't, it's a fair to middling price. But it hardly matters, because you got royally taken on the add-ons. Simoniz is a coat of wax, nearly pure profit for the dealer. The extended warranty could have been purchased online for about half what you paid. And $488 for a tire warranty?? You can buy a new set of tires for little more than that.

The F& I Dept of every dealership, every make, pushes this overpriced add-on junk. You could have used dealer financing and just said "no" to all the other stuff. Can't blame this on Honda -- you didn't do your homework.
  • carlukokcarlukok Member Posts: 7
    Oh snap.
Seriously you gotta do your homework, you cant let your guard down especially with F and I.

Paid under $24,650 (with 8.75% sales tax) out the door for a CR-V EX yesterday. It's San Leandro Honda.
