At http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car4.htm is an interesting statement about "factory invoice", etc.

Does anyone know where "factory invoice" information is available about the Honda 2008 CRV EX 2WD?
  • j0sep4j0sep4 Member Posts: 2
Just got a EX-L w/ Navi 2WD - Whistler Silver / Blk in So Cal for $25,995 + Tax/Reg from Honda Santa Ana.

    OTD was about $28,300

Only thing I don't like so far about the car is on the freeway (405N between the 110 and 105 fwys) where the concrete has grooves the CRV tires like to track into them and makes the car a bit "swervy"

    Everything else is excellent!

    kyfdx,

Your are referring to the "dealer's invoice", not the "factory invoice" which was noted at http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car4.htm
    :)
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,309
The bottom line on the factory invoice and Edmund's invoice is the same...

Holdback and other items aren't itemized on the Edmund's invoice, but those numbers are easily obtainable on this same website..

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for?

Most if not all buyers appreciate complete transparency on pricing. http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car4.htm offers another source to an educated consumer.

According to the website downloaded in the earlier message, the local dealers' 'factory invoice" with the manufacturer's logo, etc. is the cost that the dealer pays; the "dealer invoice" shown to customers is the dealer's invoice.

If there is no difference between these two invoices, why are the itemized invoices (not the bottom line) for both not posted on the internet as "Edmund;s invoice' , etc.? :)

That is the perfect color combination for the CRV at least to us. It may has something to do with either AWD or SUV n general, I did find the car more noisier than usual in highway speed. I would recommend to make sure to include highway driving, during the test drive. Otherwise this car is perfect in everyway. I am intend to set up bluetooth in the car.

There is only one invoice... It comes from the factory, to the dealer.... and it shows what the dealer pays for the car... It is fairly identical to the invoice published here on Edmunds (and other websites)

    With some caveats...

Holdback.. Some invoices (notably Toyota) break out this number, but the bottom line is the same.. There is an article here on Edmunds detailing holdback for each manufacturer (though it may be somewhat out of date). As far as I know, holdback on Hondas is 2% of MSRP.

Regional advertising fees.. Many dealers are invoiced for advertising fees... But, since they vary by region, those aren't published by the consumer websites..

There aren't two invoices... factory and dealer... There is only one invoice.. Nominally, it is what the dealer pays the factory for the car.. There may be other numbers that you can add or subtract from this invoice to get the dealers' "true cost", and you can find out about most of those things here on Edmunds, or on the site you linked. There may be other numbers that we don't know about.. unit bonuses, etc...

One other good resource is this discussion... You can read about what other buyers are paying for the same car. Which is good.. because, ultimately, even if you know what the dealer paid for the car, the only number that matters is what price you can buy it for..

    Hope that helps,

    kyfdx,
Better yet why don't you just post in pdf format the "factory invoice" for the 2008 CRV EX 2WD?

    Thank you

    All,
I'm trying to find out the best dealer offering price for 2008 CR-V EX-L AWD in the NJ state or neighbouring. One dealer in Central NJ offered around $26000 price, which means around $29000 OTD ($26000 price+$1820 taxes+$635 dest. charge+$235 doc fee+$10 NJ tire fee+$235 reg fee etc). Is that a good price?
I am willing to go to MD or CT if there's substantial difference in price, however am not sure how that works out. Do I get charged another state's fees too and then NJ fee when I register it here? Is that worth the effort?
Please let me know. Thanks much in advance :)

Why are dealer fees and profit fees added to subtotals?
On what total is the state sales tax figured/

Destination and state tax are understandable.

Try Sport Honda in Silver springs, MD. I hear they will give you a decent internet price and I believe the MD. dealers only have a $99.00 dealer fee.
    Hope this helps...and no...I don't work there.
  • crvcrazycrvcrazy Member Posts: 7
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll try to contact them today.
I got an internet offer from Open Road Honda and they're charging me $25,900 price - so pretty much the same as VIP Honda. Is this the normal for the NJ dealers for a 2008 EX-L AWD no Nav, to charge around $26000 price? I was hoping this would be around $24K or so - something below invoice. Or is that too much to ask for ! ;)

Have been reading this forum for a few weeks and everyone's comments and shared experience were extremely valuable when making my purchase. Just got a 2008 CR-V EX AWD, Silver on Black this past weekend. Price paid was 22,600, not including tax and registration. I am satisfied with deal. I could have shopped all over and tried to squeeze a couple more dollars, but it seemed acceptable.

Overall we are very happy with the car so far. The sales experience through the internet department at Ocean Honda in Santa Cruz, CA was great. Only negative was that the finance guy tried to sell me the extended warranty at a 'fleet' price of 2250, but he didn't push it too hard. I guess he has to try to make money somewhere. I'll get one online if I want it for 1/3 of the price.

Thank you to everyone posting on the forum for your help.

Dude! You got a great deal on that car! Anthing under 23K for an EX AWD is a really good deal. I lied last weekend to the first dealer I went to and told him another dealer quoted me a price of $22,800. He told me to let him know if I got that deal and HE would go there and buy 10 of them!

I have closed the deal for 4X4 EX for 22500 (24554 on road including Tax, paper work & MV etc..) including the destination charges in Caldwell, NJ with excellent financing rate...Today late afternoon I am going to take the delivery...

Do let me know if its good deal....

Has anyone had any issues with the center console where they might spill something and get into the CD changer? I'm in the market to get this SUV but didn't like the fact that they have the CD changer right next to the cup holders. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So we bought a silver 2008 EX AWD for $24,800 OTD with wheel locks from San Leandro Honda. They beat other honda dealership prices. The sevice was great as easy. Hassle free. It took about 1.5-2 hours to wrap everything up from test drive to delivery. We even had free cappucinos and french :P vanilla coffee from the vending machine while waiting for our CRV! It might have been in the end of the month so maybe thats why they offered that price. Selling by volume.

I've been negotiating with a number of Chicago-area dealers for an LX 2WD and not finding it hard to get quotes at or near invoice. However, several of the dealers have been adament that I have to take delivery (not just sign a deal) by tomorrow, the end of the month, to get their quoted price. I realize this could just be a pressure tactic, but hearing the same thing from several dealers makes me suspect Honda may have a factory to dealer incentive running right now on CR-V, at least in the Midwest.
  • ecarfarecarfar Member Posts: 22
I think that's standard. The best time to shop for a new car is at the end of the month.
  • ecarfarecarfar Member Posts: 22
Hi, I'm in the market for a new car and have pretty much decided on the CRV, it would be my 4th Honda. I had my sights on the EX 4WD but haven't been getting good price quotes on it. I was wondering if any of you have been shopping for and EX 4WD and the EX-L 4WD and noticed if the dealers are more likely to give bigger discounts on the -L model as opposed to the standard 4WD EX. I guess I'm wondering if they sell more of the lower version than the -L version. If it's any help, I live on Long Island, NY.

    Thanks

It was my understanding that a sale counted towards a salesperson's monthly total for incentives, bonuses etc. as long as they had a signed sales order, even if the customer didn't actually take delivery until the following month. It was hearing that delivery had to take place by month end that made me wonder if special incentives are currently in play.

Landmark honda doesn't stand by their word. very dishonest. I got a deal last year and when i got to the dealership they change the pricing and have so many salesman trying to haggle me about i could not get that price. i already got price quote from near by dealership and was trying to get better deal. if you receive any offer from them make sure you read and understand what they offering. There wording has different meaning than you might think.

has anyone gotten 0% rate from Honda? does it still exist or a pipe dream. I would pay the full MSRP for a 0% rate any day of the week. what kind of rates are you guys getting?

    Intelligent consumers:

What are you finding for prices on the net and at the dealers for Hondas and Hyundai Crossovers?

Comparing 2008s Honda CRV Ex 2WD A with the Hyundai Santa Fe SE 2.7 L6. Hyundai just raised the rebates on the 2008 Santa Fe from $500 to $2000.; 2007 went from $1500 to $2500. Both CRV and Santa Fe have 5 star safety with 4 star rollover. Mileage is comparable. Price???
    :)
  • kangfkangf Member Posts: 4
harmonychic, your deal has got even better. Could you please tell me how you got the price? Is it some kind of internet price? Russell Smith only sent me an email, I think that was about 20,500. Thanks.

not so smart consumer...lol...ok, not techno geek anyway. But it's funny you should ask. Watching a news story this week on the Today show mentioned the difference between a smaller vehicle from Honda and Hyundai. The consumer needed a cheaper car to drive to and from work. She immediately was leaning towards Hyundai with a cheaper cost. But once CR did their homework, they found that cost of ownership was cheaper with the Honda. They based it on insurance, depreciation, MPG etc.

So that might be something else for you to ponder.
  • bucobuco Member Posts: 49
    mariq0107,

Is that with or without the current Hyundai rebate of $2000 and $2500?
    :)
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
The Santa Fe is a nice vehicle and looks like a bargain based on purchase cost, but CR-V stomps it in total cost of ownership due to depreciation and fuel efficiency. And having looked closely at both, my personal impression was that while the SF is bigger "on paper" it didn't seem significantly roomier inside. In fact the CR-V had noticeably better legroom in the second row. The SF has the third seat but it is very cramped. If you need a third seat for regular use by other than small children you need a bigger vehicle than the SF.

I don't think Honda ever had 0% rate. The lowest I remember was 1.9% for 60 months on Civics and Elements. 2.9% is the lowest on the CR-V.

What you need to do is sit down and calculate how much you would pay over the life of the loan at price X at rate Y, and then calculate how much you would pay over the life of the loan at MSRP at 0% interest rate. What you may find out, is that buying at invoice and paying 4% rate may be better in the long term.

Has anyone bought recently in KC -- 2wd EX-L, no nav? Wondered what the real situation is. Dealers are telling me 'hard to get', translation pay what is on the sticker!

Just email you with the dealer name and salesperson name. If you just want to quote a price, you won't get the price as mine. It took me more than four hours to get this low price and I really need to buy the car that day.
  • kcmotorheadkcmotorhead Member Posts: 2
2WDs are not shipped to KC generally. Almost all 4WD. The dealer would have to ship one in ($$$).
  • jkuruczjkurucz Member Posts: 1
I went to Open Road as well. I told them I wanted 24,000. They looked at me like I had 5 heads. He told me like 28 something and I said no. Then he says we might be able to do 27,500. So I have been using that number to see what others can do and they tell me Open Road said that just because I was going to leave. So now I am contemplating just an EX. The guy at VIP Honda had me thinking why do I need leather and dual climate...For all that extra money...But I kind of wanted luxury look and feel, you know? So he got the price of the EX out the door around 25,000...But I think I can still do better.

Anyone else go anywhere in NJ????
  • christinam1christinam1 Member Posts: 18
I wouldn't give up the leather and dual climate just because some salesman tries to convince you they aren't needed. You will wish later you had gotten what
    you really wanted.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
Send some request for quotes in the MD area. It is only 3-5 hours away and you will save $$$$.
  • marig0107marig0107 Member Posts: 92
I gotta say, I love the leather. Dual climate, 07's didn't have and I can't see why you need dual climate. But I am such a girl, I take control of the climate in my car and my husbands car. :shades:

I guess those prices do NOT want to come down. You;d be scared at what I paid, but dh insisted on the dual dvd players installed. They are purty ;)

I will say, altho sticker shock still hasn't worn off, I plan on enjoying this car for at least 10-15 years. I am crazy about it. After the caravan, this car is like my Disney World.

See how low you can get, play your game, it's a smart one. And good luck!
