I am shopping for an EX-L 2WD no nav in the DC area, and so far my best offer is $24,200 + freight, TTL, and $100 processing fee. I've also been told the 2WD is tough to come by, but that they're out there. Hope this helps.

Just tell them an online credit union like Pentagon Federal offered you 4.99% for up to 72 months and most dealers will match. As long as you print out the web page with the offer, terms, conditions, etc....they don't even need to know you are a member. I took the print-out with me when we purchased out Pilot and the dealer matched it with 72 month, 4.80%.

If you need to join PenFed to get the deal (or at least the proof) you can join the National Military Family Association (NMFA) for like $25 and that gets you access to a PenFed membership. Throw like $5 in a checking acount and voila! you are a bonified PenFed member now able to get 4.99% if needed.

Although not highly recommended, you could also transfer any bar auto loans to 0% balance transfer credit cards. There are numerous negatives to this method if you're not up to tracking and monitoring closely though. Good luck!

To newfizzy91 and all members. I have just had a internet dealer manager from Walnut Creek Honda which is a few miles out of Oakland. e-mail me with a price of $22,192.26 this includes destination and a H.D.A.G. fee! (Honda Dealer Area Group) whatever that is! Tax and anything else is extra. I will keep you all imformed as to how this exchange/ negoiations go. Remember its just a straight 2wd ex I'm talking about I think roughly you can add 10% for tax, etc. etc. So at a guess we are talking $24,400 otd.
Regards to you all, Martin of Oakland.

    martin,
A CRV 2WD EX should put you in right around $23,750 OTD. At least with the 8.5% San Francisco tax rate. I got a few quotes from around the bay which probably was going to do that price if I wanted a 2wd. The dealers started to beat each other by a $100 then $50 and it seem they were getting close to that "no more lower deals because profit is falling very low" I estimate 1% or less profit but I could be wrong. If its $24400 OTD you probably can go to where I bought the CRV and pay a little extra for an AWD.
    Good luck! ;)

Does the security system include an audible alarm (including glass breakage sensors) or is it just the engine immobilizer?

    Thanks for your input.

Dealer invoice on 2WD EX is $21,978 including destination. I don't know if HDAG is a legitimate fee or something you should negotiate.

In my area (Illinois) 2WD are hard to come by. I wanted 2WD EX but couldn't find a good deal on one in my wife's desired color (Glacier Blue) so ended up with 4WD EX for $23,091 which is invoice. I'm picking it up today from Ed Napleton Honda in Oak Lawn.
  • bucobuco Member Posts: 49
"Consumers Reports" March issue clearly states that "dealer's invoice" includes costs not on a "factory invoice".

    1) What does "dealer's invoice" on a 2WD EX for $21,987 (including destination) include which is not on the "factory invoice"?
    2) What is HDAG?
    3) What was included in your cost of $23, 091 for the 4WD EX?

This list educates and can save the rest of us thousands of dollars when participants like you share this kind of information. Thank you very much.

Got quote of 25,500 for 2008 EX-L no navi in SC. Is this a good deal or can I do much better?
  • red927red927 Member Posts: 118
That quote is dealer invoice. Considering the popularity of the car, it is a good deal. I would like to get that price in NJ.
  • diesellabsdiesellabs Member Posts: 8
Yes, security system has glass breakage sensor (actually a microphone inside car which is supposed to pick up abnormal sounds) and will blow horn and flash lights when tripped.

I don't have access to a "factory invoice" so don't know what dealer invoice includes that is not on the factory invoice. I am going by the dealer invoice numbers given on Edmund's and carsdirect.com which are typically accurate. The main difference between factory and dealer invoice is probably the 3% holdback. I am comfortable with the dealer making 3% on the transaction.

I don't know what HDAG is, it is apparently some kind of regional fee that was mentioned by a previous poster from California. My comment was simply that it is not assessed in Illinois.

I paid for my 4WD EX, in addition to the $23,091: 7% state sales tax, $150 doc fee, and the usual Illinois title, plate and registration fees.

Picked up the vehicle yesterday, my wife loves it so far. It was assembled in Mexico. The assembly quality and paint job are impressive, as good as any Honda I've seen.
  • ecarfarecarfar Member Posts: 22
Here are the numbers direct from Consumer Reports for the 4WD models, this is the invoice price minus holdbacks. It's called the "bottom line price", this is the number you should start negotiating from:

    LX - 20,473
    EX - 22,492
    EX-L - 24,781
    EX-L w/Navi - 26,306
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Good luck getting a dealer to give up much of the holdback on a CR-V. It's the best selling small crossover in America as evidenced by the fact that Honda is not offering any consumer incentives on it, even now when most SUV's are languishing on dealer lots. I may have left a few hundred bucks on the table with my deal, but I was quite satisfied with paying dealer invoice for my first choice color, with very little hassle.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
Holdback for Honda is 2 % not 3 %. good luck finding a dealer willing to sell you a navi CR-V for 26306.

The lowest I have seen someone payng is 26500 and that was because he worked there.

Regarding the Leather option, some reviewers have mentioned it is kind of stiff instead of the soft variety which has led them to get the EX (without leather). Would welcome your comments on the type of leather in the EX-L model.
  • lehman1lehman1 Member Posts: 1
EX-L (AWD) purchased at invoice at Mahwah N.J.(internet dept.-had car in stock)-got lucky.
    Leather is great-no complaints.
Only complaint is there is no side molding (Makes no sense). So I purchased it at Barnardiparts.com(discount priced) after purchasing 8yr. warranty thru Bernardi for under $900. My friend got the Navi but was disappointed that the backup camera did not have a wide view.

I get a quote from a dealer in MI, the OTD for 2008 honda crv ex awd is 24000.00$. is it a good deal or not?
  • martinturnermartinturner Member Posts: 17
Thanks for your input ($23750) on the 2WD EX. I agree with your train of thought.
I could not pry any further input from Walnut creek Honda as regards the 'Honda Dealers Advertising Group' Fee. So have left that deal on hold.
I am next going to try 'Berkeley Honda' and see what sort of response I get from them!. So will post again next week.
FOURTEENMAN Yes! your deal is good, if it is a OTD price. Be so kind Sir as to break the figures down as to what tax % you paid and Doc. fee etc. it is always of interest to us who live in other parts of the country.
I read that house prices have tumbled in Detroit so I wonder if that has affected new vehicle sales in that neck of the woods!, so it follows on that you would think that dealers would be more pliable! in doing a good deal on the CR-V there!. I was once told by a car dealership manager in Sebring Florida that selling cars is a 'numbers game',! (I wonder if that is true?)
I still mantain that as the recession bites!! so to speak! We will start to see Manufactures 'offers' on this model in spite of it's being 'the best selling' crossover this year.
So! the answer to a good deal on the CR-V is to wait! wait! wait! time is on the buyers side (everything comes to him that waits!) If you buy now! you'll kick yourself in the fall!!! as the economy spirals down. And as a parting shot do you all not think that gas prices will hit $5.00 a gall and even more! by next year.... In Europe they are paying $8.00 a gall. If you think that it could not happen here then you are living in a fools paradise. and I am sorry for it.
    Regards. Martin of Oakland
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Gas prices in the U.S. will probably go higher, but nowhere near Europe's levels. Much of the Europe gas price is taxes.

If the price of gas in the U.S. does skyrocket, demand for relatively fuel-efficient vehicles will increase, at the expense of vehicles that get poorer mileage. The CR-V is one of the more efficient "family size" vehicles, so I don't see rising gas prices resulting in better deals on CR-Vs. The opposite is more likely -- as we have already seen with the recent run-up in gas prices yet NO consumer incentives being offered on CR-V, unlike virtually every other SUV.

A recession will of course dampen sales of all vehicles and make dealers "hungrier", but the dealer margins on the CR-V are pretty small to begin with. Dealers aren't going to sell them at a loss unless the economy goes into a full-blown depression, which isn't likely. And Honda is very good at adjusting production to meet demand so there aren't lots of unsold Hondas sitting around in slow times.

Bottom line, I don't think deals on CR-Vs will get all that much better than they are right now. A few hundred dollars better maybe, but not enough to delay buying now if you need a vehicle now.
  • lucky_777lucky_777 Member Posts: 205
That's funny how you call CR-V fuel efficient.
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Glad to provide you some laughs.....but I said it is "relatively" fuel efficient. Care to cite an SUV (other than a hybrid) that is more fuel efficient than the CR-V?

My wife & I test drove the 4wd Ex yesterday. However, it was a dealer's loaner. No CRV were available until 2 weeks. We are looking for the 2wd EX if possible.
We have 2 small boys - ages 1.5 & 4. Question - leather vs. cloth?? What's the price range on a the base models? :confuse:
  • mchallmchall Member Posts: 8
We went to the KC Auto Show yesterday and determined that the CR-V is the car for me - we've been looking for a year, so I am glad hubby and I finally agree. What we have seen is how ridiculous it is that all the best options are included in AWD vehicles only and FWDs are not generally available in the KC area. It seems the auto makers have decided that we "need" AWD. Well, I don't want it, don't want to pay for it and don't want to lose the mileage associated with it. Furthermore, we will want to tow our car behind a motorhome in the next couple of years. The dealer is now on a search to find an EX-L with navi in one of our preferred colors.

My question is this - all the "accessories" available for the car - are they all dealer installed? If so, it should be easier to find the car we want - rather than trying to find a car with all the "stuff" we want. And I assume that the 'bargaining" will happen mostly over what we pay for dealer accessories and what we get for our trade.

    Have I got it right?

    Thanks for any guidance.

I bought a 2WD EX about a week ago with cloth seating and I love it. I'm not big on leather seats because they get cold in the winter, and hot and sticky in the summer. If you go around corners you'll slide across the seat, especially the kids. I'd always recommend cloth seats on any car. The one good thing about the leather is they're easy to clean...and with small boys...everything else may be worth it to you. Also, I got my dealership to come down to $20,000 on my car, and it was priced sticker at $23,500. I had a high negative equity on my trade in, so they did whatever they needed to sell me the car.

Good luck on the car shopping! I would certainly recommend buying a CR-V to you, especially with the kids. They are SOOO roomy.
  • bucobuco Member Posts: 49
    Dessiree and others.

Our family has always had clothe seats and immediately installed slip covers. Costco's sheepskin covers are warm in winter, cool in summer, and washable.

Please keep posting the CRV prices that you find so as to help all of us. More often than not the word "invoice" refers to the dealer price not the factory price to the dealer. Check out http://www.carbuyingtips.com for those of you who are interested in clarification.... the difference may mean thousands.

An earlier post listed Boch Boston at http://www.boch.com/bochhtml/bochhonda/pages/HondaSpecials.aspx

Now who in other areas is matching those prices? :)
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Each trim level (LX, EX, EX-L and EX-L/Nav) comes from the factory equipped only one way, and the 2WD and 4WD drive versions of each trim level have exactly the same features/options. If by "accessories" you mean stuff like all-weather mats, roof rails, trailer hitches, etc. yes this stuff is all dealer-installed, and you can buy it online and install it yourself (at significant savings over dealer prices in most cases.) Look at www.bernardiparts.com and www.handa-accessories.com. And in most cases, you can negotiate on stuff that the dealer "installed" that you don't want.

It's definitely harder to find 2WD CR-V's in the northern states, and since they're relatively "rare," northern dealers tend to not be as flexible on price as they are with 4WD. But in the south it's the exact opposite, so if you're adament about not wanting 4WD and are willing to go south (e.g. Florida or Texas) you can find a better selection of 2WD.

Did you notice though that as an example the ad shows the LX model with an MSRP of $20,700.00 you get the savings but when you check their online inventory the lowest MSRP listed is $21,335.00, something doesn't add up there.

There is a search engine that will query the web and return CRVs mileage/price/year/model data within your area.

    The search engine is at
    honda.googlepages.com/

I plotted the cars' price vs their mileage within a year and a model in PA. There are good deals/ bad deals that can be identified (eg Two cars with the same price but quite different mileage).

Just thought it might help someone.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
Called Boch just now, BAIT AND SWITCH: it is a misprint !!! This price is for their last 2007 on the lot. It is a 2WD, which is not the best for New England weather.

I asked about the price for a 2008 EX-L 4WD. It is 25988 plus 635 destination and 298 doc fee. Their EX-L navi 4WD is priced at 26999 plus detination and doc fee.

So, what do you think about the 26500 for the EX-L navi 4WD now ?
  • mchallmchall Member Posts: 8
Thank you - that is very helpful. I just got quotes for some of those "dealer installed" accessories and I was astounded by the prices. I will likely forego most of them and add them later. $800 for the trailer hitch, $800 for the remote starter....I thought I would add some "nice to haves" as the CR-V is less expensive than the Murano or RDX that we have been thinking about. But I can't see paying inflated pricing for dealer-installed accessories.

My husband is out of town on business in South Carolina and he is going to check on pricing for a FWD while he is there. It might be worthwhile to have him drive one back...lol

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a new 2008 CRV EX 4wd. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area and am wondering if I could get one for $24,500 out the door with all the tax, title, etc... Do you all think this is a feasible price to obtain, or should I expect to pay more? Also, How much could I expect to pay out the door for a 4wd LX?

Any help you guys might have is much appreciated. I am new to this forum talk and am kinda nervous about the whole buying a new car thing.
  • love_luvlove_luv Member Posts: 13
I got 2008 Honda CR-V EX in northern NJ for 200$ below invoice. You can get it or atleast invoice for sure. My out the door price was 24940$.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
And I suspect the same type of thing on the LX model that they advertise on their web site.

    2008 2wd lx royal blue..20150

i'm in the DC area and 2wd are hard to come by, dont feel we have the need for 4wd here at all. so we've been patiently looking for 4 months for a 2wd lx in the colors we wanted. after missing 2 2wd lx's (they were sold hours before we got to the dealers) a royal blue finally showed up. the only extras on it were wheel locks and mudguards, had 11 miles on it. we paid out the door 21275. not the greatest but for a hard to find car around here, we were happy. we were back and forth between getting an ex and he tried to get rid of a 4wd ex on us and actually seemed like a decent deal at 22800, but it didnt seem as peppy and we werent overly thrilled with the ex. (moonroof seemed tad small, but the cd dash area is definitely nicer).

    Hello Folks,

Till these days i was watching all the postings. After analyzing the price quoted in this forum and checking back and forth with the dealers, i finally bought 2008 CR-V EX AWD yesterday. Thanks to Edmunds and thanks to everyone in this group.

I bought it in Penn state. Details are as follows.

    OTD Price : $23094(including destination fee) + Tax ( 6% PA Tax) + Tag fee , Registration fee , Doc fee ( $165) = $24643 ( Total-OTD)

I hope the deal is pretty decent and not over paid. I know still i could have got a better deal.

    Dealer details:
    Piazza Honda of Reading
    915 Lancaster Ave
    Reading, PA 19607

    Thanks again.
  • darkshierdarkshier Member Posts: 7
Congrats Vash! That's sounds like a great deal to me and would definitley be happy with that price, for what you got. I am wanting to pay around that also, except I will be hit with a whopping 8.25% sales tax, compared to your 6%.

If I may ask, what APR did you get? And how long of a term is that for?
  • morgan15morgan15 Member Posts: 1
On Saturday March the 8th, I bought a CRV, EX, AWD for $24,500.00 out the door. Included taxes and registration in California at a Northern California Dealer. Crown Motors in Redding. They said it was $500.00 cheaper than the Cost Co discount and below invoice. I don't know about all that, but I can tell you that the two other dealers I spoke to, one in Yreka and in Medford, said they would match that price but refused to beat it. They were running a sale this month and wanted to move a lot of cars. Good luck and happy shoping. I love my new CRV :)
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
That is dealer invoice, exactly the same as I paid. Congrats.
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
That sounds like an extremely good deal. Dealer invoice on that vehicle is $23,091. I'm guessing your sales tax and registration had to be more than $1500 so you got it below invoice. Sounds like Northern California is a great place to buy a CR-V.

I'm going to pull the trigger tonight I think. Lowest quote I have from multiple dealers in the DC area for the EX-L w/Nav is $27,250 plus taxes and tags but including delivery and processing. That looks to be a decent price based on what I've seen on this board although it's clearly not the lowest. I'd like to get below 27k but I can't seem to get anyone around here to go lower at this point. Any reason to think I should be able to do better than where I'm at now?
  • lisonglisong Member Posts: 1
Just got a quote for 2008 4WD EX-L without Nav for about 25400 (Destination included) in north NJ area. Woner what is the invoice price and whether this price is good enough.
If anyone found a better price in northeast area, please let me know.
    Thanks!
  • smith1smith1 Member Posts: 283
Dealer invoice on 4WD EX-L is $25,456 including dest. If they have immediate availability in the color you want, I'd go for it.
  • ecarfarecarfar Member Posts: 22
Take it from one who's been looking on long island....if you got a firm quote on a AWD EX-L for 25400, RUN to the dealer and take it!
  • crvcrazycrvcrazy Member Posts: 7
Great. I got my EX-L as well for Invoice Price at Denville. Did it thru the internet quote and lucky for me they had the Red/Gray color in stock. that had arrived just the day before. Pretty painless purchase. They were just trying to see if I wanted to take gap insurance etc, but no pushing. Overall a great experience. and i love the car so far :)

I'll probably look up BernardiParts as well, since I was rather disappointed that the CR-V didn't come with side molding, and the dealer was charging $250+waiting time for that to be ordered/delivered. Did you do the install yourself or did you have it installed? thanks again
