Good job on negotiating a great deal... I plan on using your figures to assist me on my leasing adventure! I'm not in a hurry to lock in my deal so time should be on my side?

Mahalo for the quick reply... Sounds like the new offer is the same as the old one?

Don't think so. I bought my brand new 08 EX-L (no nav) for 23.5K excluding licensing and tax on Jan 31, 2009. The CRV is selling well compared to other compact SUVs, and Honda knows that......Dealer is Paul Miller Honda in Caldwell, NJ.

    Hi all,

Such a struggle point right now, here is the deal I got, 18.5K for 2008 LX AWD, just the car, tax, dmv fee, destination fee not include (Its a new crv, not used or demo car). Good Deal? I'm in SF bay area.

I got a 2009 LX for 21200 Out of the Door. This includes TT&L. Gillman Honda Houston.

CRV is a good car. But the economics and oil price certainly do not favor CRV or whatever SUV's. You bought 2008 leftover, did you? That meas there are more supplies than buyers and people are trying to save money everywhere. Check out the stock market this week. I have lowered my target from Lexus to Honda. Now it may need to go as low as Hyundai.

If you bought 2009 Honda CR-V LX 4WD recently, could you share the price you paid (OTD) with the breakdown items such as tax rate, title fee, documentation fee? and where did you buy it?
  • jeffsjeffs Member Posts: 23
Why would make a comment like "Now it may need to go as low as Hyundai." ?

I compared the CRV EX-L to the Hyundai Santa Fe Limited and quite frankly after test driving both vehicles there was no comparison. The Santa Fe is a far better vehicle in both specs and actual driving. I ended up purchasing the Santa Fe Limited on Dec. 31, 2008 for $22K + TTL for an OTD price of $23,018. I could not be happier with my decision.

Believe me I wanted the CRV to be the better vehicle especially after reading all of the customer reviews but after test driving, the CRV had a lot of road noise and just felt more budget and utilitarian. The Santa Fe also included fog lights, roof racks, 6 cylinder engine, ability for manual shifting, heated windshield wipers, auto lights, auto dimming mirror with home link, mud flaps, longer warranty, etc. for a lower price. The only area the CRV excels is with gas millage. I get 25mpg during trips loaded down with 4 occupants and luggage and average around 19-20 in the city. The CRV gets better milliage no question but it has a 4 cylinder engine.

The Santa Fe drives very smooth and quite and feels like the Lexus RX350 for a substantially lower price. I also like the fact that there are fewer Santa Fe's than CRV's on the road. In my neighborhood, I counted 20 CRVs and only 2 Santa Fe's so I don't feel like a clone.

In both January and February 2009, Hyundai increased sales over the same period last year which says a lot to me. The bottom line is everyone has their own opinion but my opinion is the Santa Fe Limited is a far superior vehicle than the CRV EX-L.

    Good luck with your choice.

    ".... count 20 CRVs and only 2 Sante Fe's ...."

There are some reasons why that many CRV vs Sante Fe on the road. 1 of it is to compare their resale value after 3-4 yrs. usage.

This is the lowest quote I'm getting for a CRV 2009 LX AWD--- I'm in Bowie Maryland.

Can I do any better, if so which area should I negotiate. I'm a single mom and this will be my first new car purchase.

    $ 19,270.61 Vehicle price 2009 CR-V LX 2WD
    + $ 670.00 Freight (destination)
+ $ Free Accessories if done before St. Patrick's Day
    + $ 97.50 Doc Fee
    = $ 20,038.11__Taxable Sub-total___________
    + $ 1,202.28 Sales Tax - 6 %
    + $ 274.00 Tag & title fees______________
    = $ 21,514.39 TOTAL PRICE - OUT THE DOOR *

I will be trading in a 2001 Honda CRV LX 4wd. I'm not sure I will use the same dealership to do a trade in or not, thoughts?
  • yuxiaohongyuxiaohong Member Posts: 9
Is this 2009 HONDA CR-V LX 4WD but not 2WD?
If yes, it is a great deal.
  • drac2009drac2009 Member Posts: 9
Has anyone had experience of dealers adding fee, modifying options, or changing anything that is different from the email agreement at the last minute of delivering the car to you? How reliable they are at that stage of closing a deal?
  • jodynepaljodynepal Member Posts: 2
No that price is not for a CRV 4WD but a 2Wd.

My trade in is a 4WD

I have a question about an internet price I received recently. It's a pretty vague price at the moment, but it's for an '09 CRV EX at 21984.77 without TTL. Taxes in LA are 9% and registration will probably run around 300. Is this a good deal? It is listed in the email from the internet salesperson that the price is no-haggle. Does this mean that they most likely won't accept an offer for less?

I feel like such a rube when buying a car and just have this horrible feeling that I'm always getting taken advantage of.

    Thanks
    Eric

Please help since this is my first experience buying a new car.
Lowest offer I got so far is $23,760.00 (includes destination & handling) + TTL. Is this a good price? What price range should be considered "reasonable" for now?
Also, how much is the "invoice" price for a dealership to install a remote starter?
    Thanks everyone!

Try to take my shot today at North CA
Previously I got a price 18.5 K for 2008 LX AWD from them, at that moment, they say they this price is including destination fee, but I guess its probably not true. But the 19,170 is still sounds like a good deal for me. So I drive 30 mi to them and find out they don't have it in stock. Then they try to sell me 2009 LX 4wd. Starting form 21,000, they do hard sell and I do hard defense. Finally we end up with 20, 400 (car + Des) and 1350 for accessories (roof rack + whole backup sensor system + body side modeling). I kind of getting upset about the game they play (use 2008 LX AWD as a hook) and its already 8:45pm, so I drop the offer and go home for typing my experience now. I don't know, is this is a doable price? Should I go for it? or do price match with other dealer? This is so hard~ Especially I don't speak good English. Please give me some advice.....Thanks in advance.

Counter offer 21,300 for 09 EX 2WD AT, incl dest
    before Adm fee, TT&L.
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
You can tell pretty much which price is lowest but reasonable by check and write down info/pricing re EXL-FWD in this thread for past month or so. Just a quick guess I think you still have at least 400 lower window.
  • newbeeenewbeee Member Posts: 10
    Thanks bigdadi118.
I've read posts for the last 2 months, most of them only stated the OTD price. I am needing to compare prices before TTL.

Does anyone make any purchase for this model around OK / TX lately?? Please post, I really really need as much info. as possible to make my decision.
    Thanks all.
  • drac2009drac2009 Member Posts: 9
    newbeee,
Please clarify your informatin here. You are getting a '09 EX-L for $23,760 for base price, destination, document fee. All you need is to add tax, title, license. Please tell which dealership in which area. This price is lower than most posts here. Are you sure? Why are you still looking around?
  • dofferdoffer Member Posts: 16
I had an experience when after the Internet Manager and I had agreed on an out-the-door price, the financing and insurance manager tried to increase the price because they "somehow had the wrong tax and license programmed in the computer" and the tax and license should have been higher. How often do these rates change and how many cars have they sold and not figured this out? I told them they could change whatever they wanted, but the bottom line price that we agreed on was not changing (i.e., eat the cost). Don't let your guard down when you get in with the F&I manager to close the final deal. If the deal is not right, then be prepared to walk.
  • newbeeenewbeee Member Posts: 10
    drac2009,
$23,760 is the base price (inl. destination & handling fee). I don't know if this includes doc fees yet. Since I'm still waiting for the dealer's reply.

I'm still looking because that is only quoted as the "base price"! As you know, dealerships have ways of jacking up the price by adding so much balonies onto the car (aka, options).

I got this quote from VanderGriff (Arlington, TX) but I've heards horrid stories about them being sneaky.
  • yuxiaohongyuxiaohong Member Posts: 9
    Thanks.
  • newbeeenewbeee Member Posts: 10
How does this offer sound?...$24,742.00 OTD (all fees have been included!). The only thing I will have to pay is tax, which is 3.25%! This was only an initial offer. Is counter offer $23,742.00 doable??? Anyone...?
    Thanks all.
  • drac2009drac2009 Member Posts: 9
Now, $24,742 OTD for EXL 2wd is a very bad deal. It depends on where you are, target to $24,000 is the best reasonable. $23,742 was the lowest from Cal. I don't know if you can get that in other regions. But wait a few weeks to be near the end of the month. With the market keeps falling down and a lot of people could not get the financial to buy a car even they wanted to, you might get $23,742. The $500 incentives last until the end of the month.

    Hello
FYI, I was able to get a tea green 2009 EX-L for $25597 from Venice Honda out the door. A place in Tampa offered me lower prices (down to 25k out the door) for the remaining inventory the last weekend of February but they did not have the color we wanted. I worked about 8 different dealers and this was about as low as I could get them.
    Peace

    Guys,

I love Honda Products, I looked at the CR-V first and than RAV4. Here is what i think...

    CR-V - 09: Less Power (166 HP), Engine (2.4 ltr), Lower MPG (27)
    RAV4 - 08: Less Power (166 HP), Engine (2.4 ltr), Lower MPG (27)
    RAV4 - 09: More Power (179 HP), Better Engine (2.5 ltr), Higher MPG (28)

2009 CR-V is same as 08 RAV4. Toyota has improved RAV4 -09 but Honda didn't? Why would I buy CR-V? Am I missing anything? Again, I like Honda product but from what I can tell RAV4 just blows away CR-V? Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Sam,
You did have a very interesting point that RAV4 09 has a better mileage than CRV 09 even with a more powerful engine. However, from my prior experience Toyata dealership had terrible service departments. I fixed my car in almost every area. Sometime I got lazy and took it to a Toyata dealer, they would want to replace the items that I just replaced a few weeks ago. Have they improved?
  • thebentmanthebentman Member Posts: 13
I have not been able to get an offer below 23k for an 09 CRV EX AWD, no navigation, cloth interior, and that supposedly includes this months incentive (500), but does not include TTL. Based upon the fact that the new model year is coming relatively soon and everything else going on out there, especially in the auto industry, I would have thought I could do better. I am in the NYC metro area and I have gone to one dealer in person as well as solicited email offers using edmunds and this is the best I'm getting. Anyone have thoughts on the price?
  • funguy123funguy123 Member Posts: 94
    drac2009,

I have also owned older Corolla and went to dealership couple of times and it wasn't too bad. It was like any other dealership i have been to. I didn't found them better or worst. So I guess, i wasn't really thinking about that. I was looking at two new small SUV and i don't really many good things about CR-V than RAV4.

Anyone else has any points to make here? I am really scratching my head on why I should even consider CR-V in the mix!!!!
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
Well, depends how much you want to spend! I have priced both and the RAV-4 always come up considerably more expensive for the same specs....not even close! Now if you gotta have a 6 cyl than the RAV-4 is the way to go.
  • funguy123funguy123 Member Posts: 94
    godeacs,

Thank you for sharing your opnion. I am looking for 4 cyl. I was comparing 4 cyl RAV4 with CR-V. Sounds like RAV-4 may be more money (not sure how much $) but i wouldn't call is same specs since they are considerably different.

Is this EXL a 2WD or AWD (all wheel drive) ???
  • kengokengo Member Posts: 1
This is the price I paid for mine. It includes wheel lock, splash guard, cargo rubber mat, door edge guard, and all passenger floor mats. I request a factory alarm so another $350 (they wanted to sell it to me for $595). Total I paid out the door is about $19,350. Again, this is a brand new car. Please let me know if I got a really good deal. Thanks. I'm located in southern california.

Did you email at least 10 Honda dealers?

My friend bought 09 EX AWD at 22,700 (incl dest) + TT&L before incentive 500 in Dec 08. If take 500 off the price now should 22,200
I am sure you can get better than 23K
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
The both nice and reliable small SUV. You won't get a lemon buying either one.
The choice is totally determined in personal feeling which one you feel better during test drive. Afterall you are the one to drive the car.
I don't think you can tell a difference re the little HP increase in 09 RAV-4 but 1 MPG is a saving though. Everyone's driving behavior is different so this is purely number game.

We got an offer from a Boston dealer today, $23500 O.T.D. for Honda CR-V EX

Does anyone buy the same car recently? Could you share the info please?

Shep626, I don't suppose you could give some more info on which dealer in the tampa area could you :) I think we are looking to get a CRV-EX and I was just quoted 21225 before taxes and fees which comes out to about 25k after, if I could save another 1k or 1.5k, that might seal the deal, especially if they threw in some of those extras.....
  • drac2009drac2009 Member Posts: 9
I may be changing my mind. I may switch to RAV-4.

1 MPG saving is not a big deal I agree. However, even a small horse power increase in RAV-4 is worth to look at. These two compact SUV's are known for lacking of torque. Now RAV-4 improves the engine torque. It will show a big difference in towing and carrying more loads. The last gen before 2005 of CRV has a big problem in transmission. I have not seen the newer CRV's have that problem, though the problem may just not appear at this time yet.

How much can be towed with the RAV-4? It's 1000 lbs for the CRV.

    I just offered a Honda CRV EX 2009 for 22034 minus TT&L.

Any feeling as to how good of a deal this is?

That sounds pretty good, am in Central Texas (Austin) and the best I have on a 09 CR-V EX is $22,225+TTL.

The best I have on an 09 CR-V LX is $20,088+TTL.

I have been emailing many dealers from Waco/Killeen, Austin/San Marcos, and San Antonio.
