rdw: By my calculations, you got a great deal.

If I have this right - '05 CR-V EX auto - MSRP is $23,865 - INVOICE is $22,083 - and if you paid $20,882, that was $2983 under MSRP and $1200 under invoice!

In the late fall I was shopping for an Odyssey at Sussman, but they would not budge off MSRP, so I took my business elsewhere.
  • dc_driverdc_driver Member Posts: 712
Wow, all of these prices paid were significantly lower than the prices quoted to me by over five different Northen Virginia Honda dealers in mid November.

I just read that Honda had a huge jump in sales in December to up their total volume of sales for the year.. I wonder if Honda dealers were being given an extra incentive from Honda to sell cars at lower proces in December to boast sales.. If so, will this have an effect on resale? Honda's in my area typically either sell at MSRP, or about $1K under MSRP...

I believe the invoice of the 05 EX AT is 21,500.

Drove my new Satin Silver EX 5sp manual home last week from Bell Honda in Phoenix. Negotiations straight forward and without undue pressure.

    Here are the numbers:

    21,200 - selling price

       305 - various fees

     1,717 - sales tax

400 - title, tags and registration

    23,622 - out the door

I bought a New 2005 CRV LX FWD just before Christmas. I paid invoice plus 2% (approx $19,375) plus a $499 dealer fee at Rick Case Honda in Davie, Florida (non negotiable in Southern Florida, all dealers charge it and will not budge on it). I had lower offers (at invoice price plus $499 dealer fee) but this was the only dealership in Southern Florida that had the CRV LX FWD in black and they offered as 10 year 100k powertrain warrenty and 5 years roadside assistance at no additional cost. I had a Capital one finance check (4.9APR) but the finance guy informed me they had just announced 2.9APR on CRV and I qualified so I accepted.

I also ordered Body Side Cladding and Black Side Steps and found out today that Body Side Cladding is not an available option on the 2005 CRV LX FWD. Now I already paid for the Body Side Cladding ($600 including installation) and my questions are (1) Did I do as bad as some of these below invoice deals some people are getting are making me feel I did and (2) What would be a fair remedy to ask for sense the option I already paid for and is included in my financing is not an option at all?

I am interested in Fender Flares but feel that Fender Flares alone are not a fair substitution for the Cladding

    Thank,

    the out-of-door price is 22k.

The tax rate here is 8.25%.

The sale price of car is about $100 more than

    invoice + destination charge.

Is this a good deal? thanks.

what is the actual price of the V before TTL?
  • dc_driverdc_driver Member Posts: 712
You need to ensure that Honda cuts you a check for $600. Do not take 'free oil changes for life' as compensation, or an assessory that you do not really want. Surprised that the dealer did not catch this before the deal was made unless this is an attempt to pull a fast one on you.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
To be fair, I didn't know about the change from cladding to flares until a few weeks ago. And I generally know more than the sales staff. It's somewhat unusual for Honda to remove an accessory, so it seems like reasonable/honest mistake to me.

just purchased a 2005 honda suv. i got the 2.9% financing through amer. honda finance corp. i negotiated a very good purchase price -putting about $5,000 down, then made the mistake of chatting w/ the finance mgr. i mentioned i was going to get lojack since i sometimes park in some not-so-great areas of our city. the mgr said why spend so much money on lojack when you can get a brand new car if my new one is stolen. stupidly, i took, upon the mgr. recommendation a "total loss guarantee". i thought it was going to cost "only about $495" for the 5 year term of my financing... and add "about another $9 or $10 bucks" to my monthly payments. OOPS. i left the dealership (had a bad headcold, had to get back to bed) and when i got home realized that the negotiated price of the suv had gone up almost one thousand dollars! and the monthly payments up about $18. this "total loss guarantee" as explained to me by the mgr, would cover me (up to $5,000) the difference between the fair value assesment my insurance company would give me if my car was stolen or totaled and the price to get a brand new suv of equivalent or greater value...again only up to a max of $5,000. isn't this gap insurance? i will end up paying over $1,000 for this "total loss insurance", ($185 per year at 2.9%) which, IF i incur a total loss will pay a max of $5,000. do the math, i really end up with $4,000. the honda suv i got depreciates very little any way... so i think this whole thing stinks. if i want, i can get GAP insurance online at a much lower rate. i don't even think gap insurance is needed when financing and putting down 20% like i'm doing. i am seeing the finance mgr on monday (bought the suv friday) and i'm going to try to get rid of this back-end add-on. any one ever hear of this "total loss guarantee"? the mgr says it is NOT gap insurance. what do you think are my chances of me getting rid of this thing. too bad -i was otherwise really happy with the original salesperson i dealt with and was ready to sing the praises of my experience at this honda dealership.

The lease on my car ends this August. I'm considering financing a CR-V for my next vehicle. What must my FICO score be in order to qualify for low financing offers? (I'm hoping that Honda will have 1.9 or 2.9% this coming August.)

BTW - I finally got to sit in a 2005 CR-V SE. Quite nice.

Have you taken delivery? If not, tell the finance manager you aren't interested in the "total loss guarantee", and want the deal structured as originally agreed upon..

It might be tougher, if you have already taken delivery... but, might still be possible to change it.. Don't wait, though... If this happened Saturday, be there on Monday morning..

Assuming you got a manual, from my calculation based on 'the best buy' from one of the poster, you should be able to get about $1100 less. I already included the dest and weather mats in, but if you get an auto add $800 from the number above ($1900 less).

Did you do some research before you sign the deal? The key is, they can sell $655 less from invoice (see Edmunds invoice price).

Congrats with your new V, as long as you happy with it, that's all matters. Drive safely!

It is an Automatic. Are you saying a best buy deal would have been if it was $1100 less than the edmund's invoice of $22083 or my price of $21348?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    Here we go again....

Anytime someone comes here asking " Did I get a good deal" someone will quickly jump in to rain on their parade by telling them they paid too much!

They will tell a story about how "someone" bought the same car for hundreds or thousands of dollars less. A lot of those "deals" never happened.

Why not just enjoy your new ride?

    Life is short...
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,275
Also.. Not everyone will be able to bargain for the lowest deal reported on this board... If they could, then it wouldn't be the lowest deal..

The market changes... what was attainable on December 31st, might not be doable now..

Most of the prices I see now, are lower than what I paid for my '02 in April, '02.... and I got a good deal at that time...

My $0.02.. your price was very good.

"It is an Automatic. Are you saying a best buy deal would have been if it was $1100 less than the edmund's invoice of $22083 or my price of $21348?"

Again my calculation is $655 less than edmund's invoice price (vehicle only). Scroll up and re-read my post above.

I understand that not everyone will be able to get the same deal. There are some factors need to remember when you buy a car: 1. Time. Usually if you buy a car at the end of the year, dealer will give you more discount because they need to put new year model in their lot. End of month is also consider to be a good time, since dealer will make their monthly sales report. 2. Dealer's Stock (Availability). 3. Supply and demand. 4. Negotiation skills. 5. Location. Generally, people in Hawaii have to pay more than other states, since they need to add shipping cost to the island. There are more things to add the list.

The good thing is you made a good decision to get the V!
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
All honda dealers pay the same amount of freight to ship cars. It makes no difference if the store is ten miles from the factory or Maui.

Picked up my CR-V this afternoon from a northern NJ dealer. Vehicle price including destination: $21,382, + doc prep charge $118, + 8.25% tax ($1,764). There was no trade in involved. Considering that the TMV price is $22,999, and the invoice is $22,083, I don't think that I did too bad - oh, that price also includes the cargo cover as well.

Now back to reading the manuals...
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
Sometimes I wonder the same thing. This thread serves a nice purpose in informing people of what happens in the world at large. For that reason, it's a good thing. But individual deals are always... well... individual.

And why would you ask after you have made the purchase? Before the sale, asking makes sense. But post sale, there's not much you can do about it.

For my part, I often wish this thread focused more on the buying experience.

    Just my two cents. :-)
  • jayramjayram Member Posts: 4
Well, obviously I am new to these forums. I apologize for asking. I really wanted to just post my price so it helps others.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
That wasn't my point at all.

I agree with varmit. Why ask after the deal is done? Be happy with your new ride and enjoy it.

Someone will ALWAYS come along and try to make you feel bad because you paid "too much".

BTW, you bought my favorite Honda! Great cars!

On 12/23/04 I paid the invoice price of $23,100 plus $515 destination at Route 22 Honda in Hillside, NJ. Many other dealers in the area offered the car at invoice. Also got 2.9% financing for 5 years, which is not currently offered

I didn't read the rules before I posted, sorry. I had planned on going to Voss Honda because they gave me a decent quote over the phone 1-3-05. I read your post 1-4-05 and went there after work.

I took printouts from Edmunds, including your post, and haggled down to $22083 + 100 doc fee at 2.9%, for a silver 2005 CR-V EX automatic. They had to locate it for me. I added the Simonize teflon coating because I have to park outside near trees. They also gave me good trade-in on my 2001 Civic EX coupe. I was very pleased with Voss Honda and will recommend them to friends. I live about 10 minutes from another dealership, but chose Voss Honda.

    Hello,

I have been reading this thread for a while and have learnt how to buy my next car and avoid getting a bad deal (like my first car), and for that I thank you.

Now I am planning to get a 2005 CR-V SE and I have some questions:

    1. Now that the end-of-year sale is gone, when would it be the next best time to buy? End of any month? End of September 2005?

    2. In case Honda starts offering 2.9% again, which is the minimum credit score I should be shooting for to get the lowest rate available?

    Many thanks again,

    maferna
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Don't hold your breath waiting for 2.9 financing on CRVS. You had a rare opportunity in December that a lot of people missed.

Interest rates are very good right now from a variety of sources. We get spoiled by artifical rates that come and go. In reality, the difference between paying 2.9 and 4.9 isn't that much. It's not like buying a house!
  • nornenorne Member Posts: 136
Well actually the difference is about $1,100 in interest payments 2.9% vs 4.9% assume finance 20k for 5 years.
  • mafernamaferna Member Posts: 83
While the monthly difference between 4.9 and 2.9 is not that much ($23.00), after 60 months it adds up to $1,400. It's not enough to make a dent in my cash flow on a monthly basis, but in the end it does add up as addittional money for the bank that I'd rather see in my pocket. But then again, 2.9 is no longer available.

For the above numbers, I assumed I could get the SE at invoice + TTL (AZ tax)
  • thedentheden Member Posts: 2
    Maferna,

I noticed that you are in AZ. Just to let you know I just bought a CRV LX AWD at Beaudry Honda in Tucson for $100 under invoice. This also included mudflaps, wheel locks, all-season mats, and the cargo cover for free. Tucson also has the lowest tax rate of the AZ cities (7.6%) No trade in or financing, just wrote a check! I emailed 6 dealers in AZ and this was the best deal I could find... Talk to their internet sales person.

    Theden,

Thanks. That was a great price; I'll definitely consider them.

    Hello ...

I'm a complete novice at this and was hoping somebody could help me through my negotiations. Based on the reccomendations of previous posts on this board, I solicited price quotes from about ten area Honda dealers last night for a 2005 CRV SE in pewter/pearl.

I've heard back from most of them. Nobody blew my socks off. None were anywhere near some of the prices I've seen on this board for the same car. Ranged anywhere from 24,282 (including destination) to 24,767. CarsDirect.com has quoted a price that is exactly invoice -- $23,651.

My question is as follows -- where do I go from here? I was hoping to get a dealer price that was equivalent to that of the Cars Direct price. Do I just e-mail the dealers, tell them the best price was 23,651? What can I do to put them against one another to get the price I want? Or am I being unreasonable and prices are just higher now than they were the past few weeks? Please offer your suggestions. I appreciate any and all of them. Thanks.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,275
If the carsdirect price would make you happy (and that seems pretty good), then call that dealer that offered $24,282 and tell him that if he beats the $23,651 offer you got from CD by $100, you'll come buy his car right now..

And, keep doing that, until someone says yes..

    regards,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll certainly try it. I heard all these lines today about how "this isn't a car that we discount" and "we're lucky to even have this on in stock." when what I really wanted to hear was a price I was excited about.

I'd be excited to get that CD price, ecstatic to get anything lower, especially in the heart of winter. But so far, like I said, all I've gotten is quotes in the mid-24s.

Anyway, thanks again. If anybody else has their two cents to add, feel free to chime in. Thanks so much.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I guess I'm curious...what exactly would you like to pay for that car?

Go to a dealer that you feel comfortable with and offer them that amount. It'll either work or it won't. A smart dealer won't give you a hard number to go shop them with.

A CRV SE, especially a pewter one isn't distressed merchandise. I know, we can't keep them in stock very long. Since there is only about 1600.00 profit at MSRP, it's unlikely a store will be willing to give one of these away.

And...Cars Direst does not sell cars, the dealers do. Good Luck...great cars!

    Hi!

I am new to this forum. I wish to buy a Honda CRV-EX 2005 in few days. Trying for a good deal in Houston area. One dealer quoted $23,452.06 (Drive our price). Is this price ok? Please give me your feedback.

    Thanks
  • dc_driverdc_driver Member Posts: 712
nor sure what your options are and the ttl and dealer fees, but Edmunds lists the invoice price of this vehicle at 21,568 (excluding freight, ttl). If you are paying at or below invoice then I'd say its a good deal. If you are paying more than a few hundred over invoce then I would shop around some more.
  • hello24hello24 Member Posts: 3
Thanks for the feedback. I wish to have the EX (no other accessories needed). I plan to pay by one check. Please give me feedback on the drive out price (includes destination charges, tittle,License and other cost added). If anyone got good deal in Houston area or College Station, TX area that will be great.

Bought a new 2004 green one yesterday for $20,995 plus tax&fees. That's about $350 below invoice, I think. Sticker was $23,040. That $20,995 was the salesman's first offer, and I went ahead and accepted it with no negotiating. Thought it was good enough.
  • helspershelspers Member Posts: 4
Just as an FYI, and nothing more, I paid $23,825 + $515 destination and handling. Sticker was $25,565 gross (includes d&h). Invoice = $23,651 gross.

Picked up the car yesterday and find it a great piece of workmanship.

    Arlington,

So you paid 23,825 + 515 + ttl + any other fees correct? When I was looking at CRV's in November they would not budge from 24,500 (including destination and a dealer processing fee of 2-3 hundred bucks). What dealer did you purchase from?
