Where exactly in New York State? A friend of mine lives in Westchester, and is paying ~500/6mo for 2 cars, full collision, and it is that high only cause his wife has less than 2 year driving experience. But NYC premiums are killer. 1200/year liability only or 2500 full collision is considered extremely good.

I am in Rochester. My premium for 6 months is actually $326. That's nice that your friend has 2 cars insured for around $500. I don't know why mine is higher... perhaps a little more coverage in certain areas, the model and year of the cars, the fact that I'm under the age of 25, etc. Could be a lot of things. $326 for 6 months seemed awesome to me... I would probably have hit the floor if they quoted me $250!

Check with Honda Auto Center aka Honda of Bellevue. They are supposed to be the #1 VOLUME dealer. In theory, they make $$$ from sales of more units rather than more $$$ on each unit. Buying two at a time would be a bargaining chip, I would think! Give me a note at my email, and I'll give you some specifics. I couldn't get a committed price over the phone...had to go in, but they took my first offer. Don't forget Honda gives the dealer 3% holdback.

Email me at my profile email and I'll give you a rundown. Initial prices without any armtwisting were at $500 off of MSRP. Anything beyond that was up to negotiation and market conditions. Or else pay $200 on Southwest Airlines and fly to San Jose and buy any CRV at $300 below invoice!

    1. When offering me a price over Internet, the claim was that 'they have the car'.
    2. When I came in, they did not have it on the lot, claimed it was in transit, but could not give me an arrival date.
    3. Even after we filled out an order and left a deposit, their website continued listing the car we reserved as 'available inventory'. It lists it still.
    4. Not comfortable with vague delivery date, I kept searching, and on Dec 4th bought the car from another dealer.
    5. I emailed Open Road Honda several times, requesting deposit refund (at contract signing they assured that I could cancel the deal and get the deposit back at whatever time for whatever reason), and got no responce whatsoever. I am going to call them, and if that does not work, will be calling the credit card.

I suggest being careful with their offers, and not settle for anything they got 'in transit'.

Aloha all! I'm currently looking to buy a CRV and have been looking around the island the last week. My goal was to buy a used 2002 and higher model, and preferably and EX.

One dealership offered me $16,500 plus TTL for 2002 EX certified with 22,000 miles. This was for a white with tan interior--a color I don't like too much.

Another dealership offered me $19,000 plus TTL, for a blue 2002 EX certified with 33,000 miles. This is a color I prefer and I know for a fact that they can go lower, but not too much.

And then there is one last option, buying a brand new 2004 LX 4wd that one dealership has at clearance for $18,388 plus TTL.

I'm thinking that it may be worth it for me to just go for the brand new lower end model. Unless you wise people here in the forums think that it's worth it to buy a certified used vehicle. If I were going to make an offer on the 2004 LX model, I was going to make an offer of $19,000 out the door, but I'd want to have keyless entry, cargo cover, cargo mat, and tint installed. Would this be an appropriate offer? Too high, maybe? Please help!!! I want to drive away with a new car this weekend. Thanks everyone.

    In Grand Rapids, MI.

List price was $19,995 (plus TTL and destination).

Purchase price was $18,473 (plus TTL and destination).

Agreed to $75 document fee (probably could have had it waived, but was happy with the deal and didn't feel like arguing over $75).

I requested multiple online dealer quotes from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. When I received one at invoice I took it to my local dealer and asked them to match it. They did and I had my car at home 2 hours later.

I don't know if I could have squeezed 'em any more ... but I think I got a good deal and it was painless, so I'm happy.
  • crimdoccrimdoc Member Posts: 36
On the 2004 LX you'll be missing ABS brakes, side curtain airbags and the traction control system. I think I'd go for a 2005. I just bought one like that at invoice in Michigan. Not sure if that's possible in Hawaii or not though.

Honestly, I don't think I'd spend $19,000 on a 2002 ... I know 33,000 miles is nothing for Honda but when you can get a brand new car for the same price, I think I'd prefer that.

    Good luck!

I also shopped at Open Road and did not get a good feeling that everything was on the up and up. They kept telling me that they had the exact color I was looking for three diferent times that I called asking for three diferent colors.

I purchased a CR-V LX 4WD for $19,400 incl destination at Planet Honda in Union, no hassle, agreed to the price over the phone(this is a 3rd car my family got from the same salesperson) came in and drove away that night.

If you want email me and I will give you the guys name.

I have been given a quote of $21,683 for an '05 EX (includes $515 destination, but doesn't include tax and DMV fees). Is this a good price? I live in the NY area (Orange County). Also, does anyone know if/when Honda would offer any incentives or rebates on this vehicle?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,222
Yes.. $500 under invoice.. grab it quick.. assuming this is an automatic.

To date, no incentives or rebates on any CR-V since its inception in '97.

I am planning to buy a 2005 CR-V LX FWD within the next few weeks. The carsdirect.com price is $18,813, $175 below invoice. What is a reasonable price to shoot for? I have heard $300 below invoice is achievable. Is there any specific dealer recommendation? I have contacted Anderson Direct and they sound nice, though the price is high ($18,888 quoted).

Btw, how much would it cost to tint the rear glass, and would the dealer do that? That is the only feature from EX that is of interest.

Howzit 808jg... This was the best deal that I could find for my father. Sent in 3 quote requests via the internet to Pfleuger, Tony, and Windward. BEST DEAL I could find was for a 2005 LX 4 wheel drive - OUT THE DOOR - 21,851. (including the appearance protection package) But my dad took the deal from Pfleuger for 22,100 out the door because Windward emailed me too late and he wanted the car bad. You know how it is in the 808 state... LATERZ

I have to wonder why anyone would feel a need for 4WD on Oahu?
  • bpark808bpark808 Member Posts: 2
He lives on a steep driveway that gets slippery when wet. I often peel out with my V6 2wd ford ranger when it is raining. But I agree, you can't go to most 4wd spots on Oahu with the CRV. However, there are some minute applications that apply to everyday life here in our island paradise.

    Rain and mud, I suppose.

If you don't care about having a moonroof, 6cd changer, or alloy wheels than go for the 2005 LX model. The ABS, side airbags, keyless entry are all standard now on the LX.

You can always tint your own windows and buy better alloy wheels on your own. Having a awd or 4 wheel drive vehicle in oahu is complete waste of money unless you have a specific need.

Also, don't pay that bogus market adjustment all dealers charge in Hawaii with the exception of servco motors.
  • stevefstevef Member Posts: 5
Ditto on the AWD in Hawaii. I'll take my '05 2wd with VSA over the AWD '04.

Glad to see a lot of postings from Hawaii. Let's keep it up!!

I am picking up my '05 EX Auto for $21,500 including $515 destination charge. The dealer is selling a protection package with the vehicle for $199. The package comes with front mud guards, wheel locks, and a cargo tray. I figure it is OK for them to make $60 or so in saving me the trouble of ordering these stuff online. I am also getting fog lights put in for $350. How is this deal everyone? I hope I am not being taken in some way. Also, I would like to thank everyone. The postings really help me make up my mind and negotiate this deal. The dealer is in Eaton Town, NJ in case anyone is interested.

Picked up a silver moss metallic w/ mudguards and wheel locks for $20,993 (incl destination) at Community Honda outside Chicago. $260 under invoice. How does this compare?

When I bought my CR-V in '02, $1000 discount from MSRP was very hard to get... These below invoice deals on new '05s are fantastic... I've seen it a lot on Accords, but never on CR-Vs..

I think you are seeing the effects of dealerships trying to get rid of stock before the end of the year..

Sent emails to 5 Saint Louis dealers asking for quotes on a '05 pewter SE stating that I was emailing all area dealers and would simply go with whoever would deliver the lowest price with the least amount of banter.

Received 4 replies the first go around, each with slight variations of dealer add on options, so I'll state pricing relative to invoice. In descending order: $800 above invoice, $400 above invoice, $300 above invoice and lastly right at invoice. Countered the invoice dealer with $200 below invoice and a cargo cover thrown in, but the dealer wouldn't budge.

Emailed the other three stating that invoice was the price to beat. Two said the best they could do was $200 over invoice and didn't hear back from the third. So I went with the dealer at invoice.

Extremely hassle and pain free...I didn't even talk to a single person until I showed up to the dealer. Start to finish, the process took up very little time over a 2 day period.

Ended up with a pewter SE at a base invoice of $23,651 (w/ destination) plus the options I wanted at invoice of $475 (mud gaurds, wheel locks, cargo tray, cargo cover) plus a $79 fee. Total = $24,205 (w/o TTL)

I know I had the time of year working in my favor and I knew what to expect from reading this forum. I'm happy and the dealer still made $750 from holdback!
  • researcher2researcher2 Member Posts: 1
Thanks to everyone who helped me decide between the CR-V and the Subaru Forester. Test drove them again this weekend and decided on the CR-V! Now the hard part...the pricing.

I'm talking with several dealers in the area (DC area) and have gotten consistent quotes of $23,200 excluding taxes, destination, registration, etc. I am also getting several options--leather steering wheel cover, cargo mat and day/night rearview mirror. One dealer quoted me an out the door price of $27,000 with those options priced at almost $700.

This pricing seems a bit "off" to me. I think I remember reading some posts here from folks who bought the SE with more options and paid less. I haven't started negotiating yet but I would like to get a sense of how much wiggle room I have before I do. Also, has anyone had any experiences with good dealers in the DC area?

    Thanks!

I am about to buy a new Honda and seriously considering the 2005 CRV EX. Used to manual transmission although all my friends say to go to Automatic (Manual in a desirable color is really difficult to find in the San Diego area.) One friend said to get AWD but after reading posts wondering if I should just get the FWD LX model instead in an automatic.

Any idea of what a good price is for either LX FWD, EXT AWD Auto or SE in the San Diego area? A friend's husband said to wait until 12/31 before going in to seriously make an offer. Might wait to 12/30 as do not want to be there all day on 31st.

Am a member of a credit union and constacted the fleet manager for Honda they had on list, and also have talked to in person and on phone many times the Costco rep. Unfortunately they are same Honda dealer but different people -- if one was lower than the other would that cause a problem?

Have filled in several email requests that waiting for responses from as have read that people took emails into the dealer of preference and asked dealer to meet that offer.

I hate the haggling of car purchasing. Any help you can offer is appreciated!

    for what it is worth...

I called a dealer in Palo Alto, CA & asked if they could beat another less-than-invoice offer for a 2005 CR-V SE. I added, "I don't negotiate & telling you the other offer is not fair for the other dealer!" The salesperson said, "What's the invoice price?" Having researched the prices at (where else?) Edmunds, I responded, "$23,136!" This person said, "come in & let's talk." So, I believe one should be able to get a CR-V for less than invoice (due to yearend sales quotas).

Here's another reason to get a 2005 CR-V -- Buyers shouldn't have to choose safety from an option list.

I don't like the SE's perforated leather and might wait for the next CR-V! And with any luck, Honda will come out with an AWD Hybrid CR-V.

    Good luck & happy holidays!

Try using the TMV pricing report available here at Edmunds. It tailors pricing by zip code. You may do better (or worse), but it's a good place to start.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
It's not clear based on what you wrote, but I just want to make sure you understand that the CR-V described in that IIHS link is the CURRENT model. The 2005s have been on sale for a little while.
  • dickey77dickey77 Member Posts: 5
I got it for 21,500. $583 below invoice price. The dealer gets $700.50 back in holdback, so I guess they are trying to make room for more inventory. If you're shopping for a CR-V, get it for below invoice. If you're in the Boston area, try Clair Honda in Dedham.

How long you finance? hehe... too many questions to ask... I can go on and on...thank's for sharing and drive safely!!

Just came back from the dealer and got an '05 CRV EX Automatic for $22,795 out the door. I was originally quoted $23,684 by the Internet salesperson at the same dealership, but was referred to a specific salesperson, and he was able to beat that price. I got the Sahara Sand Metallic. Also, Honda has 2.9% APR financing on all models through the end of the year.
  • kichankichan Member Posts: 28
    Forgot to include the breakdown:

Base Price: $21,540 + $1,727 (tax - 8 1/4%) + DMV & Temp plate fee: $128, minus trade-in: $600 (I know - it was an 8 year old car, and didn't feel like going through the hassle of trying to sell it on my own). Vehicle was purchased in NJ

I just left Sheehy in Alexandria with a satin silver CRV EX for $22736.52 out the door. I think that this was a fair price to pay in this area. I was also able to get financing on it for 2.9% through American Honda Finance Company. According to the dealership this is only lasting through Dec. 26th. Also felt that there was not alot hassle involved with the transaction and was overall a smooth process. Getting quotes online is the way to go in my book.

Just to give those of you in the market a heads up. I read this and other sites religiously for the past few months, did my homework, and finally picked up my se last weekend. I got it for invoice, no extras. If you're in phoenix be sure to check Tempe Hondas internet sales. Much less hassle than any other dealers. Their first quote was lower than any other dealer in the area after multiple rounds of haggling. I got it at invoice + destination with no hassle at all. I was very impressed.
  • dickey77dickey77 Member Posts: 5
We love it so far. Thought I wouldn't like the gear shifter, but it's not so bad. We got the Eternal Blue Pearl. No pix yet. We're leasing, so no down payment. We got a money factor rate of .00225 (5.4%) on a 42 month lease. So, we only pay $285/mo.

We were at 21,500, 56% residual, .00225 money factor on 15k/42mo lease. 21500 includes dest. charge. We were 1440 out the door, which included first month.

Did everyone have to pay the $595 acquisition fee from Honda? Seemed suspicious to me.

Any cheap place for accessories? Wheel Locks? All weather mats?
  • hischildhischild Member Posts: 1
There is a good dealership in Germantown, MD and another one in Silver Spring. I know two people- one through work and one from church- who got good deals on CR-Vs at these places, within the past 10 months
  • katmom3katmom3 Member Posts: 1
I was at a dealer's on Wednesday getting the pressure to purchase, and talked to the dealer again last night. Current offer is 22,200 for the Sahara Sand EX Automatic, or total with all tax and DMV added would be 24, 172. Salesperson said he would not charge for mud flaps on car, cargo cover, wheel locks, etc. I am tempted to offer salesperson 24,000 even and go for it, but wonder if I should wait until Sunday or Monday? Going through Costco I was quoted by a different dealer of $400 over invoice, which they said was 22,222.73 and that might have been for a manual.

That salesperson has bothered to call me, even when the manual I wanted to drive finally came in (but not in the color I wanted).

    Any advice is appreciated!

Appreciate all the info in recent posts. I'm definitely buying a 2005 CRV-SE (Pewter)from someone in the Baltimore area next week. Seems like $24,900 (OTR) is the magic number. Anyone get a better price in this region ?

Picked ours up on 12-24----$22,000.00 plus sales tax with the extra wide arm rest option.

Color was not in stock . Placed downpayment on Tuesday and the car was in their lot on Wednesday. Dealership attention was wonderful and the sales guy was the best I have ever dealt with.

We just purchased a 2005 CRV LX 4WD in the Sahara Sand on Thursday. If someone tells you there isn't any out there, don't believe them, just do your research. We got the SUV for $19,450 including cargo cover and appearance package (floor mats, wheel locks and mud flaps). The price did not include $515 freight or tax, tags. We purchased the car at Criswell Honda in Germantown, MD. FYI, 2.9% interest for 60 months is available through AHFC. We got it but had to ask for it.

I got my 2005 CRV EX Auto from Ourisman Honda in Silver Spring for $200 under invoice in Nov. with no options and no dealer processing fee. I bought the options I wanted on-line (front mud flaps, wheel locks, and cargo cover.) I got a great rate through AHFC, although they've now got 2.9%.

I just got pre-approved by Honda Financial but they say it's no guaranty about 2.9 rate. Kind of strange… it's actually their offer. Why not keep their promises?

sounds good MB. I picked my 05 ex auto in silver moss this month for 21,700 before taxes, fees and accessories. I probably could have tried for the 21500, but i was tired of number crunching. in the end I was good with the price paid. The dealer was Boch Honda in Norwood MA. I'm glad i waited to see the Silver moss, it's sharp looking.
