I just talked with a neighbour last night, he just got his 2005 Honda CR-V EX AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 5A) in Black and he paid only $500,00 over invoice --> $21,568 + $500,00 = $22,068 or $1,282 less than MSRP/Sticker price. I think he did good, consider it's 2005 model!! He put $400,00 down and 4.49% APR with monthly payment around $450,00 for 60 months. The price doesn't include any options. Any comments will be appreciated.
Thank you very much for the story. I never thought that the dealer usually did not tell anybody the truth at the begining. I just believed that he said that I could pick up the CRV on the 23 Nov, that was the reason, I paid the rest of money.
Now I am trying to get a money back from Honda where is in New York on 11th Avenue at 50th Street, I just talked to the salesman. I said that "you can not meet my expectation, so that I will totally draw my order. Please give me back a money entirely" then, it was sounded like that He seemed to try NOT giving me back a money. I said that I would get a money back TOMORROW, then He said that Wait for few hours, and they would call me back about giving me back A MONEY.
I can not believe this. this is giving me total headach.
That's based on what a CR-V Engineer (real deal) posted a few years back in another forum. He was referencing the national trend (even broke it down by transmission option for us). The info applied to the 1st gen model, but I've seen little to suggest a change with this design.
You are right. The salesman was wrong to promise you the car and then not produce. I agree that you should talk to the salesman's manager. Hopefully you will get your money back and find a Honda dealership that is easier to deal with.
I called Honda and talked to the salesman and the Sales Manager. Both of them are together and trying to get me into a nightmare.
I was furious. Because the phone was made for Cancelling my order, as soon as I said that I would want to cancel it. i would like to get a money back, THEN suddenly the thing happens, Now the salesman was persuading me to have the new arrival today that was a sandy color with 2 wheel drive. they think that I just ONLY cared with the color??????? 2 wheel drive is stuipid for CRV. What is the purpose for getting USV car?? and THAT was Not my order either!!
I also said yesterday by email that was the salesman totally ignored me. which was that I said,
"then I would take a red color with yellow interior with $500 discount, because you could not meet my order, you are failed. 3 weeks waiting is enough, I already deposited a money on the 13th Nov. the salesman did not take seriously my order on the 13th Nov. I was already submited my credit card, your salesman did not do the job, that was your problem. then I paid in full on the 19th Nov. I was expected to get a car on the 23 Nov as the salesman promised me that was when I was suposed to pick up the car. "
then the salesman said about it today on the phone was that
"oh.... it's $500. less.. mhmhmh"
then, I said, "anyway, I would like to cancell my order, please give me back a money exactly I paid. I don't want to have a business with you at all now" THEN, the salesman was very hesitated. and mumbling himself. and he did NOT say that they would give me back a money. instead what he said was
"wait .. I will call you back about it"
then I became totally panicked!!!!!!!!
I hope that I can get a money back Tomorrow. that is the last conversation with the sales manager, and he said that he would.
About Rosenthal...I got that from checking their inventory online. It may not be updated or they could have gotten some in since you were there. Hard to tell. Good Luck with your search.
$500 over invoice appears to be the going rate for 2005s. Although, based on numbers in your post, your neighbor got it for invoice plus destination, so basically at invoice (Inv. + dest. = $22,083). Either way, good price.
As suspected, the car was still 'in transit' when I visited the dealer(Open Road Honda, on Rt 1 in NJ). Supposedly arrives in 10 days tops. I figured what the heck, and we got an order filled out and signed. 4WD LX in Silver Moss, $20096. With dealer fees, NY registration, and NY 8.675% tax, final drive-away price is $22,140. Put a $500 deposit on my MasterCard. Dealer says deposit will be refunded should I cancel the deal for any reason, but the fine print on the contract says otherwise, so I feel that if dealer starts to play games, it'll take a call to MasterCard to get my $500 back.
Also, I dunno what others here paid for accessories, but that dealer's prices on them (including installation) are highway robbery. $100 for wheel locks? $80 for cargo net? Heck, the H and A - Accessories, linked on this very site, has them for $30 and $28. And I found a 2005 CR-V roof rack on EBAY for $140 (dealer wants $300)
When I got mine, we'd had a deposit down somewhere else and on the listed delivery day, it wasn't there yet. And their make-ready guy went home before it got there. And, well... I needed a car.
I had pretty much the same thing happen to me with the woman who sold me my CRV. I went in and put a deposit down on the car, and she said that she expected it to be delivered in the next couple of days (this was June 16). Because she told me this, I thought I had to sell my car quickly (I was planning to use the money for a part of my down payment). Luckily, I was able to. I sold it a week later, but I still had no CRV. I had called my sales rep and asked her about the delivery date, and she said that it would probably come in the following Monday (now we're talking about June 28!). I handed my old car over to its new owner on June 26, thinking I would only have to live without a car for 2 days.
WRONG. On Monday, my sales rep calls and says "I'm sorry, but it's not in. But it's going to be in on Wednesday (June 30) and I'll schedule a delivery time with you." She actually went as far as scheduling a delivery time!! I was supposed to go pick it up that day (I can't remember the time now). Anyway, on June 30, it turns out it wasn't in yet. She called to cancel my delivery time and by this time I was wayyy unhappy. I actually went as far as calling all of the dealerships in my area and surrounding areas to see if they had the CRV that I wanted in stock. I told them that if they did and they could match the price my dealership was offering, I would buy from them instead. Of course, none of them had it. And two days later, on July 2, I finally got the call from my salesperson that my CRV was actually in. So I ended up going with the dealership that I was definitely HATING by the end. As far as I'm concerned, they delivered my car in the nick of time. I was thisclose to going to another dealer.
I was really unhappy with the whole situation. I felt that I should never have been given any expectation as to when the car would be in if it was not going to hold true.
Also, I felt that the salesperson had a lot of nerve to ask me to give her all 5's on the survey when I was called about it. She said to me, "You know, it's really important that I get 5's because anything less than a 5 is really a 0."
I actually was never home when the survey people tried to call me and they stopped trying. So I never completed it, but I definitely should have. I wasn't going to give people 5s that didn't deserve them.
I thought that NYS law staes that if a vendor cannot deliver merchandise within 30 days of the agreement, the deal becomes voidable by the customer, and a full refund can be obtained. This should date to the day of the first deposit... I'd check a few non-profit law websites to confirm, and then call the dealer back. If the law holds, and they still play games... start calling consumer advocacy news teams from all of the local TV networks.. I doubt the dealer would risk the negative exposure.
After trying for about 2 months and working with numerous dealers around the mid-Atlantic area (NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA, OH, WV) via the Internet, I picked up my new 2005 CRV EX Auto last night in suburban Maryland. I got it for $200 UNDER invoice + $515 freight and no dealer processing fee or accessories It's all about dealer timing. I kept e-mailing folks back with what I was willing to pay, and lo and behold, a dealer finally needed to move x number of units on a particular day. Prior to that, several dealers were willing to sell at invoice. My advice is to e-mail lots of dealers, be patient, and hang in there and eventually, you also might get lucky.
Just inked a deal as for $22,685 plus tax and license (no extra dealer fees of any kind). I am in WA state (Seattle-area) where we don't seem to be getting the same hot deals as elsewhere. This is not a price driven market at all for Hondas. The kicker was that I was offered a fair amount more for my trade than any other Honda dealer offered and more than what Terry from the Edmunds "Real World Trade Values" said I'd ever get. In addition, this dealer was up front on the phone on the price (no games at any point in the deal) and the great trade value sealed the deal. This is compared to the dealer nearest me who had a "sale" going - the "sale" price on CRVs was MSRP (taking off the dealer markup was a "sale" -sheesh!). I can't deal with a place with that kind of starting position. Luckily, I found a dealer that was willing to put their best deal on the table within 5 minutes of being on the phone!
I know what you mean about not getting the same kind of deals as everyone else. I contacted about five car dealers in KY and everyone of them acted like you were ripping their hearts out if you mentioned anything close to invoice. They all wanted in the $24,000s OTD. It took a while, but I got one down to $23,850 OTD for an EX AT with door edge guards + pin striping + 6% sales tax added along with dealer fees. I took it, but then had to cancel the deal, which I'm very glad happened because the guy wasn't as cordial or helpful after we settled on a price and I made an appt to go sign papers. I did end up getting one, but I bought it at a dealership across the river in OH. I got a black EX AT for $22,300 + cost of door edge guards + cost of painted on silver pinstripe ($99) + 6% KY sales tax (based on MSRP) + $100 doc fee. I just noticed the other day that it also has front splash guards. The total came to a little over $23,900, but for the quotes I was getting from this area I'm happy about the deal I made. Plus, the people at the dealership in OH made it a very pleasant experience.
My CR-V looks and drives great! I added black side steps, a hard spare tire cover, and roof rack I bought off of one of the cheap Honda accessories sites. It looks so good that we don't know whether to call it a car or a truck, so we nicknamed it the "hawk."
I bought my first Honda from them in '82.. Of course they were owned by Performance then... I shopped them in '98 when I bought my CR-V.. I didn't buy from them, then.. but had a pleasant enough experience... All of the Woeste dealerships on Beechmont are decent to deal with.. maybe not the lowest prices, but fairly straightforward... Congratulations!.. I have a black CR-V as well...
My first post ever. I was looking at CR-V LX 4WD and was offered $19,400 before tax. Actually what the salesman told me was that with $5,000 out of pocket and finance the rest for 60 month my payment will be $299/month including tax. Just by backing into the price I get $19,400. I'm in NJ and was wondering if this was a good price.
Based on recent postings and my recent experience that is a very good price. That is $300 under invoice which is better than most seem to be getting (including myself). For my recent experience in Florida see post #1242. You might be able to do better if you wait till January which is historically a slow car selling month, but it is a 2005 so you may not do much better. Good luck.
The mistake your salesperson made was in assuming the CRV would arrive by a certain date.
Sometimes things happen that are totally out of the dealer's control. I am well aware of this, so I will ALWAYS pad my expected delivery date by a week. By doing this, I don't have customers in the position you were in. I also don't have them calling me every day..." Is my car in yet?"
Then, when it does arrive, I'm not under pressure to get it prepped and ready for delivery. I can call my customer to arrange a time that's good for both of us.
Of course, when the car arrives before my projected date as it usually does, I have a happy customer.
That 19,400 sounds familiar. I was offered that at MetroHonda. Plus $500 dest charge, it was coming out to 19,900, that's actually $200 under invoice. I have no idea what their 'documentation fee' is. At open road honda it is 165, at Rt 23 Honda it is 138. So lets assume $150 at Metro, but it could be more. With 6% NJ tax, 4-year registration, and doc fee, you are looking at a drive-away price of 21,484 if the deal is real.
Now, financing. $5000 down and 60 months(5 years) at $299 put you at a grand total of 22,940. My math might be off, but with total difference of 6.8% between raw price and total paid, I came down to 1.3% APR. Sounds awfully too good to be true. I would watch out for pitfalls. Those finance guys can be slimy. They'll tell you this APR offer was unfortunately active only on December 2 between 2:30 and 2:31pm, and only if the wind was from the west.
The million dollar question of course is, have you already seen the car? I am also looking for a 4WD LX in NY/NJ area, and they've been real elusive so far. I already got a deposit with Open Road Honda, but they have it 'in transit' and could not give me a definite arrival date. When I told Metro Honda that only way they could still score a deal with me is to have a car on the lot for me to examine, testdrive, pay for, and drive off in, they got all hesitant and finally told me that 'it is coming in on Friday'.
I used Edmunds Payment calculater and if I enter $19,400 for the price it will add on 6% tax of $1,164 and Doc fees of $291 less $5,000 at 4.99% APR for 60 month the payment comes to $299.13/month.
I wouldn't get too excited about a monthly payment quote without seeing all the details.. If they actually sell you the car for $19,400, that is a great price.. Monthly payments are easy to figure out from there.....
My bad, I did make an error. My cell phone got a payment calculator, I must have done something wrong there. I still think that 19,400 is without dest. charge. $700 under invoice sounds too otherworldly.
When I put in 19,900 total price, 6% tax, $400 fees (240 registration plus 160 documentation), minus 5000 down, total loan is 16,494, and 299/month over 60 months gives me a 3.4% annual rate. I did not study rates much, cause I am paying cash for my CR-V, so not sure how good 3.4% is.
I paid $21,368.00 [$200 under invoice] + 515.00 freight + $656.49 (VA 3% tax) + $49.00 VA Title & VA Plate transfer, for a total of $22,588.49. I also got 4.04% for 48 months through AHFC, because our credit rating is great. Far better than my credit union. Dealership was Ourisman Honda in Bethesda, MD.
Invoice is $20,095 and dealer holdback is $636. You are paying $405 over invoice and dealer is making roughly $1,041. Based on recent posts the quoted price is fair, not seeing much better for the 2005 AWD (LX, EX and SE). For comparison, the Autofair (dealer in Manchester, NH) price is $20,795. Generally, the only deals at invoice appear to be the LX 2wd. Good luck.
Thanks a lot for nice information. I need your more inputs. What is "dealer holdback",and how you find that the "dealer holdback is $636??
Also, I check the edmunds, and found that the invoice price of 4WD, LX, 2005, CRV is about $19500, instead of $20,095, where you got this magic number?
I am aware that the LX,2WD is easier to sell than Lx, 4WD, so the negotiation is also easier.
You are correct, the invoice is technically $19,580, but typically folks will add the destination charge, which for Honda is $515, to arrive at "invoice", which is how you end up with $20,095. There are several ways to figure out holdback. Honda appears to holdback 3% of the MSRP, excluding destination charge. MSRP for the LX 4wd is $21,195, therefore, holdback is $636. You can also check this number (as well as MSRP, invoice, and incentives)by purchasing a new car price report from Consumer Reports (cost $12), although most of the information found in the Consumer Reports report can be found on-line for free. Another good source for price information is the Kelly Blue Book webpage (www.kbb.com), usually though they match up with Edmunds pretty well and I think Edmunds is a little easier to navigate.
It is quite possible to get an LX 4WD at invoice (20,096), I just got mine on Saturday. I bought it at Route 23 Honda in NJ. I was offered same price at Open Road Honda and MetroHonda offered it at $200 below invoice. However, neither had the car available on the lot. I'd say 20,500 is a bit high, you can do a lot better. Another thing to be aware of: NY tax is now 8.625%, not 8.25, but that's about an extra $100.
Btw, with 5+ year clean driving record, Geico sold me an NY(Brooklyn) policy with 500 collision/100 comprehensive deductibles for $1170/6 months. '05 CR-V got pretty high safety ratings.
Btw, with 5+ year clean driving record, Geico sold me an NY(Brooklyn) policy with 500 collision/100 comprehensive deductibles for $1170/6 months. '05 CR-V got pretty high safety ratings.
Are you sure this figure is correct? Is it $1170 for the year, not 6 months? Because $1170 for 6 months is pretty high. I have Geico and my insurance on my 2004 CR-V is less than $350 for 6 months. I also live in New York state and I'm not even 25 years old (so insurance is technically supposed to be more expensive for me).
I have been following this board and now am a new member of the CR-V club. My wife and I offered 2% over invoice with a local dealer. Granted there were a few overpriced dealer installed accessories, but we are content and feel it was fair deal for both sides.
The deal break down:
2005 SE Invoice $23,136.00 2% dealer profit 462.72 destination charge 515.00 Base Total $24,113.72 Door Edge Guards 119.00 (39.60) Mud Guards 99.00 (34.80) Wheel Locks 69.00 (29.95) Cargo Tray 99.00 (70.80) Accessories Total 386.00 (175.15) (+210.85) Total $24,499.72 + tax & license
I figure with the dealer installed accessories price over web prices we came in about $660 or 2.85% over invoice. Given it is an limited production model and the dealership only had two in the color we wanted, I think we did OK. We don't buy cars every day and are getting smarter with each one. We feel a dealer deserves to make some profit, but not gouge some unsuspecting customer.
Where exactly in New York State? A friend of mine lives in Westchester, and is paying ~500/6mo for 2 cars, full collision, and it is that high only cause his wife has less than 2 year driving experience. But NYC premiums are killer. 1200/year liability only or 2500 full collision is considered extremely good.
I notice that you've posted similar messages on the Acura TL, Honda Pilot and CRV boards. Are you looking to buy 3 cars at once? I guess the economy in Spokane is better than in Seattle!
I was going to buy an acura tl or tsx, but just switched to Honda Pilot for me and CRV for my wife. Can you help with dealers in Seattle. All the ones here want close to msrp.

Also, the KY sales tax is figured on 90% of MSRP, giving you an effective rate of 5.4%.

I'm looking at the 2005 CR-V EX AUTO (AWD) -
was offered (internet price, still have to go into dealership) -
$21,884 (destination included) plus TAX & TAGS
(that's it, no add'l costs, acc to the e-mail anyway)
How does this sound? Should I go for it or see if I can do better? Do you think dealers will offer even better prices towards the end of the month?
THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!

Same with 5 speeds. Most people don't want them.

Your salesperson brought this on themselves.
The million dollar question of course is, have you already seen the car? I am also looking for a 4WD LX in NY/NJ area, and they've been real elusive so far. I'm in NJ and was offered $19,400 for 4WD LX is it a good price or is it too good to be true price in your opinion?
Thanks
I used Edmunds Payment calculater and if I enter $19,400 for the price it will add on 6% tax of $1,164 and Doc fees of $291 less $5,000 at 4.99% APR for 60 month the payment comes to $299.13/month.
Let me know if I'm off somewhere.
regards,
kyfdx

When I put in 19,900 total price, 6% tax, $400 fees (240 registration plus 160 documentation), minus 5000 down, total loan is 16,494, and 299/month over 60 months gives me a 3.4% annual rate. I did not study rates much, cause I am paying cash for my CR-V, so not sure how good 3.4% is.
If it's an automatic, it sounds like you've been lowballed.
I am in rochester area, NY. I just an offer of
20,500 for LX, 2005, CR-V, AWD, Automatic.
I just want to know how you guys think this deal???
I need to pay 0.0825 tax, so the total out-of-door
price will be: $22,200 thanks,
which dealer? is your car 2005?
thanks
I am aware that the LX,2WD is easier to sell than Lx, 4WD, so the negotiation is also easier.
thanks again

The deal break down:
2005 SE Invoice $23,136.00
2% dealer profit 462.72
destination charge 515.00
Base Total $24,113.72
Door Edge Guards 119.00 (39.60)
Mud Guards 99.00 (34.80)
Wheel Locks 69.00 (29.95)
Cargo Tray 99.00 (70.80)
Accessories Total 386.00 (175.15) (+210.85)
Total $24,499.72 + tax & license
I figure with the dealer installed accessories price over web prices we came in about $660 or 2.85% over invoice. Given it is an limited production model and the dealership only had two in the color we wanted, I think we did OK. We don't buy cars every day and are getting smarter with each one. We feel a dealer deserves to make some profit, but not gouge some unsuspecting customer.
Thanks for the posts and information.
