On the face of it the price seems good. Presumably the vehicle is the 2wd model. Dealers may tend to give better deals on their 2wd vehicles where winter weather includes snowy and icy conditions and 4wd models sell better.
The MSRP (w/dest) is $21195, the invoice (w/dest) is $19656, making the difference $1539. Your quote of $20188 is $539 above the base invoice (make sure that the quote includes the destination charge). The dealer add-ons are worth about $269 per the handa accessories site, reducing the dealer margin to $263.
You should find out what the additional prep charges and other fees are, if any. When dealing with an internet salesperson you may be able to avoid these extra profit charges. I have always avoided these charges in my many vehicle purchases. Hopefully, you have taken these fees into account when you have gotten your bids from several dealer internet salespersons. If all the Honda dealers in your area include these charges, despite the fact that the $595 destination and handling charges, are supposed to include putting air in the tires and oil in the engine etc, then you're probably out of luck in this regard.
Edmunds shows a TMV of $21041 for this vehicle. Good luck in your purchasing endeavors. Other forum participants will probably have better ideas than I have offered herein.

Just bought an EX (Glacier Blue). No options. Paid $500 under sticker (came to $22,945) at Carson Honda in Southern California. Joe Davis, the Internet Sales Director, was great. No hard sell from him or the finance person! I can't say I would recommend any other sales person there - I overheard some pretty hard core selling from some of the other sales staff. Anyway it was a very smooth and hassle-free experience.

I forgot to add that I had visited Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance and DCH Honda in Gardena. Scott Robinson had a dealer markup of $2495 and DCH had a markup of $995!!

I just bought an 06 EX SE for 22,800. With Tax, Tag, Etc my OTD cost was 24,700. I'm in SE Florida (Boca Raton). After looking at the 07's, I just did not like the new top opening rear door. Is anyone else disappointed in the design change of the rear door? I hope this will help any one still looking for an 06.
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
I'm with you on the rear door. The only things I liked about the 07 was the rear mirror in the sun glasses case, intermiddent wipers, color choices, and 40,20,40 rear split. My friend has a minivan with the rear flip up door and said it sucks if someone parks right behind you because you can't open the rear gate. A good compromise would of been if they had the rear glass that opened. The price you got was also a lot better than what an 07 would be. :shades:

Why would anyone in Chicago NOT get AWD? What you save upfront you'll way more than lose if you trade/sell it in a few years. (If you keep it forever then I concede it doesn't matter.) You will save a bit on gas but what's the point of getting an SUV in the north if not for winter capability?

I am with you on this one. I may use AWD 3-4 times a year, but it is nice to have it. To OP, if he/she was after the cargo room, the Fit has almost the same cargo capacity, and gets 40 mpg.

I got the invoice price $20,763 including destination in the Boston area.

Actually, my experience is the opposite -- top hinged hatches seem to work better in tight spaces. Don't forget, hatches swing up and out of the way. The tailgates swing horizontally and that can be an issue if you parallel park (esp. if the tailgate blocks the curb side when loading). I do think the flip up glass was a great feature, and wish that was on the 07.
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
In my experience if someone parks right behind me I can usually get the door open enough to slide a bag of groceries in. with the top opening doors (and I'm going on my friends description) you have to try and squeeze the bag up and in. I do agree with you about the curb side loading, it would be nice to have the swing door open the other way. Ether way if the glass opened which ever way the door opened wouldn't be an issue most of the time. One last point about the top opening that my self and my friend dislike and it only affects maybe 5-8% of the population is that when your around 6'5 or taller you hit your head on the door when it swings up because it seems to be just out of your field of vision.
  • sceglascegla Member Posts: 20
Question... was that an EX or an SE?
  • slmr23slmr23 Member Posts: 4
I just purchased the '07. The rear hatch is great. I thought I would be disappointed when I saw the change from the '06, but I'm not. To open and close the hatch takes mimimal effort. With my old Montana I practically had to dangle from the handles to get enough weight to get it to close! This one opens and closes so easily and seems to be ergonomically designed perfectly...for me anyway.
The argument about someone parking so close that it would be hard to open the hatch has me confused. If you couldn't raise the hatch how could you swing open the door?

I paid $20,600 + tax for 2007 2wd LX CRV with no add-on's in San Diego County on 10-23-06. It was $600 under MSRP (including destination charge) and $940 over invoice.

Hello everyone. New member here. Been reading all your posts with great interest since my wife test drove a 07 EX-L AWD. Fairly certain we'll buy one, but undecided if we want to wait/pay for NAV. Anyone have any experience with the dealer installed autodimming mirror w/compass? I think they want around $300 for the mirror. Any info on installation cost?
  • scooterguyscooterguy Member Posts: 2
I purchased a 2006 SE, (Leather, Hard spare tire cover) with no other dealer options ie. no running boards, fog lights, door guards, etc. Just the base SE model.

    Paid 22,800.00
    Tax 1,395.00
    tire batt 6.50
    dlr fee 349.00
    plate/misc fee 149.00

    total OTD about 24,700

Hope this helps someone work out a better price for their 06
  • cconwillcconwill Member Posts: 14
The estore.honda.com site says the compass mirror is $386 including installation, $311 without installation.
  • ledaleda Member Posts: 2
In Minnesota paid $21227 including dest ($23000 OTD) at Kadlec in Rochester. Best in Cities $23500 at Buerkle Honda. Used internet sales. Choose best price over preferred color (though my spouse won on both). Found setting my price rather then asking for best price more effective.

Works for short people. Us, 6 foot and taller, get hurt with those top swing hatches.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Those must be some *very* small vehicles if they're nailing 6 footers -- we have owned Subaru Outbacks and Foresters in recent years and I have no problems fitting under the open hatches at 6'1" tall. And the Subarus are on the small side for their class so most other vehicles would be better. I can see it being a problem for very tall people (over 6'4") or very small cars, but for "mainstream" dimensions of both it hasn't been an issue in my experience.

What dealer in the Boston area? I have not seen anything below MSRP never mind invoice! :confuse:

Currently I really want EX-L AWD w/NAV. I am also reflecting about waiting on NAV. I was hoping that they would add items like the Japanese model (missing climate control and power seats) to those models. Probably wishful thinking but those are just so obviously missing (at least one of those honda!). Those things made me look at the Acura RDX.
  • arabamarabam Member Posts: 11
We also had the same dilemma while we were shopping for a small/mid-size SUV; we wanted to have power seats and climate control on top of all existing features EX-L has. 07 Santa Fee (limited) had everything we wanted for less than $28k; however we had hard time making that decision!

Last weekend we ended up buying (I should say putting a down payment for) an AWD EX-L at H.C. in Boston. Since not many (or I should say none) of the dealers in this area have AWD EX-L's in stock, one does not have too much of bargaining power! Our final price was only a couple of hundred bucks below MSRP. Hopefully, our car in going to be here early next week.

We never test drove one, but when we looked into the RDX our first impression was that it was overpriced (may be 2 to 3k more than what it should be!)
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
I agree with you on the RDX pricing. Fortunately pricing is loosening up, and you should be able to get a healthy discount at this point. They are not selling as well as expected, so supply has outpaced demand. Good for the consumer!

Hi, I am new. Hope this works. Had an accord, crv, and now a 2004 pilot, $31,000, exrls, loaded. I now want to get rid of it. Pay too much, $525 and month and is too big for me. Anyway a Honda dealer made me a lease offer using the leadership plan prg. I owe $24,000. When I bought it, I over bought all kinds of insurance, tires, gap, alarm, and something else I cant even remember. He is offering me a 2007 CRV, $24,000, pay off my pilot, a 48 month lease, and monthly payment of $459.00, he said it includes all taxes, fees, license, etc. How does that sound?
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
To be honest, it sounds like you need to seek some financial advice from a real live person you can trust. There is not enough info for us to comment on the numbers, and if you do not understand it then you should not make the deal.
  • dougshondadougshonda Member Posts: 3
Mack -- first of all I had one on my 03 Accord and it worked fine. From what I can tell you can buy one for about $200 at the honda accessories web site and put it in yourself. They have the instructions on the web site but i don't think I would want to install it. The installation cost varies depending on the dealer's labor rate, but total cost I was quoted installed came to $385. When I got my Accord they charged me their cost --$200 but they ain't dealing with the CR-Vs. I have backed off the EX-L to an EX --which saves about 2K --of course, I don't get the center console and heated seats which is a bit of a bummer but it just is not worth 2k to me. What does anyone think of satellite radio -- dealer wants $450 for the upgrade.
  • theynoninotheynonino Member Posts: 1
I am picking-up my EX-L tomorrow. I was in the same mindset between the EX and the EX-L. I like have the XM radio installed right out of the factory, versus "XM Ready" (e.g. no XM) like the 2006 Civic. I know that it is a personal preference on the EX to the EX-L, but the extra $2,000 between the two models is about an extra $38.67 per month on a 60 month loan at 6%. To me, that's worth the value of the leather seats alone. Good luck.
  • mackmack Member Posts: 8
Went to the web site, selected nearest dealership and got a price of $555 installed, $95 less for DIY. Wonder if price goes down if ordered at same time of vehicle purchase, or try different dealers?
  • bea3bea3 Member Posts: 3
thank you hunter. I figured it out and found that with their plan I would have to pay 4 years at $459.00 for 48 months, totaling $22,000.00. I owe $24,000, which would be paid off in less than 4 years, and then I would own my pilot........

I bought a mirror from a wrecked Olds Bravada for $30, couple of years ago. Installed my self, works fine. Beats paying $300 for it.

Now, I found out that there is a recall on those Mito mirrors, so I am getting a brand new one in the mail.

(10/26/06) Just purchased a 07 EX-L AWD OTD for $27,500 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Menlo Honda was the dealership, the guys were friendly enough, no additional sales pitch, in and out within an hour. Hope this helps!

Different states/counties have all kinds of various tax rates. Can you tell us the purchase price before taxes?

I have a sneaking suspicion sales on the redesigned CR-V are not all that well. I drive past Burn's Honda on Rt 73 in Marlton, NJ on my way to work every day. When the '07's arrived there were a couple on the lot recessed off the street. The last 2 weeks they've had 2 to 4 sitting on the grass right up against the street (increasing visibility). Seems to me they aren't selling. They've never had Fit's on display like this --in fact I've never seen a Fit visible from the street at this dealer so I assume they can't keep them in stock.

Are there any official sales results published? It will be interesting to see how the '07 CR-V is actually selling.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Fits are in very high demand, and supply is limited. Generally they are all spoken for before reaching dealers.

The 07 CR-Vs are selling well near me -- EX-L 4WD models especially.
  • daryll44daryll44 Member Posts: 307
CR-Vs are movin' like hotcakes here too. My salesman (who I've known for 20 years and trust) said many are opting for the EX-L that are Acura and Lexus customers.

I have been researching CRV Pricing for a while and here is my conclusion:

    1. Currently all CRVs are shipped from Japan since the Ohio plant has not come online (it will in early Dec). This means that CRV supply in the US will be rather limited until mid/late December 2006. Honda has no incentive to allocate a higher number of CRV production volume for the US market because they can sell CRVs at a higher price in Europe.
==> This means that Dealers will not offer major discounts on CRVs at this time since supply is limited which allows them to sell close to MSRP.

    2. Beginning in December the Ohio plant will start volume production of CRVs. This does not happen over night but will likely take 2-3 months for the factory to reach high volume output. As US production volume grows, Honda will introduce more variations (navigation models) and phase out CRV shipments from Japan.
==> All of these trends will likely keep supply at a relatively modest level. Expect CRVs to sell close to MSRP

    3. Sometime in the Spring (March/April 2007) the Ohio plant will reach steady-state production volume. At this point, the factory has to produce a certain volume of CRVs to reach minimum efficient scale. Also, around this time the first wave of CRV early adopters/enthusiasts will have already purchased their vehicles, thus the number of people willing to pay a premium will decrease.
==> Expect to see CRV prices to decrease to Invoice plus $x00 levels by Spring/Summer 2007.

Was in to a dlr in PA last week and when I inquired about specifically getting a red EX-L i was told that color wasn't manufactured yet. Is this true?

Saw a competing dlr's website with a red one listed there (though I don't assume it is up to date and may not still be there). I don't want to accuse salesperson of lying, but is my chain being yanked? Just wondering what all you buyers have seen.

    Thanks!

PS. How is the stereo on the EX-L...is it any good? I currently have an '02 passat with an upgraded Monsoon system and I am fearing I am going to be disappointed.....

In San Jose-CA, dealers are selling 2007 CRV 2WD EX-L at invoice price. I've got two quotes at this price already. Is this everyone paying for it now? Thanks..

East Liberty came on line in September. (http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=2006092647979)
US built CR-V's are showing up in Canada already.

I picked up my Silver/Black 2007 EX 4WD at Roberts Honda in Downingtown PA.
I paid 23,850 before tax & title and got lock-nuts included.

It was assembled in Japan with 100% parts from Japan.

Excellent buying experience (thanks Jim!) and this car is really just awesome.

I have an EX-L (two weeks now) and am not too thrilled with the speakers. Stereo unit seems good and the iPod/aux is much appreciated, but the speakers seem weak. Sound isn't very strong so you find yourself turning it up a lot, but then it gets kinda distorted.

I talked to the Car Audio mgr at a nearby Best Buy. Told him I didn't want "thumpy" or too powerful, just "better." He recommended some Kenwood speakers that would improve sound about 40-50% in his estimation. $59 per pair plus $40x2 for installation, so about $200 in total. MUCH less than getting Honda to upgrade the speakers.

They are the same size and he said they fit quite well with now outward appearance change. (He said they already did one '07 CR-V for someone with the same complaint as I)

PS: If I remember correctly, I saw a Red '07 on the dealer lot a week or two ago.

    Hansmuff,
Did that price include destination? My wife and I are looking into an 07 EX 4WD and live within 45 mins or so of downingtown, but the guy I spoke with at Roberts said that they could all they could do was $300 off of msrp. Thanks

Looking for a basic LX model with no bells and whistles. Does anyone have nay recent experience with Southern Cal.
prices for this or similar vehicle?
  • ptsmommyptsmommy Member Posts: 15
If I end up going to yet another dealer would you be willing to send me any further info about your experience there? Hope I don't have to but...depends on what response I get on Friday when I go in and ask for the MVCP price I can get with their competitor, of course. Thanks!
  • ptsmommyptsmommy Member Posts: 15
While the stereo isn't most important, it is pretty darn high. Got spoiled w/ monsoon system in my current passat and lets just say that if you have to put 25-30K on your car a year, a moonroof and a great stereo make it much more palatable. thanks for the upgrade suggestion! I'll seek that out once I get the car! Gosh, having all these other owners out there is great! Sound a little polly-anna-ish, but it has been extremely helpful! :D
  • smashmakersmashmaker Member Posts: 4
Any info on which dealers this was? Stevens Creek or Capitol?

Is this from the internet sales manager?

I'm guessing they don't offer invoice when you walk through the door.

    thanks.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Set a radius of 100 miles from where you live. If you can save over $500+, isn't it worth the hours drive?

Email all the dealerships and request a price before stepping foot into their store. Deal with the Internet Manager, they all have one.

Tell them you are prepared to buy within a certain time-frame, say 10 days. Then accept the lowest price, and go there. This has worked for me, and dozens of others posting in these forums.
