    Your post makes no sense.

You say you have been offered 500.00 over invoice on an LX CRV? That isn't good enough?

I have no idea of market conditions in your area. Granted, LX CRV's aren't nearly as popular as EX's.

Go ahead, knock yourself out, pay a middleman and see what you can get!

"game telephone"? Sorry but you lost me!

I have been speaking to Honda sale ppl for about 2-3 weeks now re: 07 CR-V EX-L AWD w/Navi and still nothing. They either say - buy what I have (green or lite blue 2wd) or give me $500 and wait 4-6 weeks to see what we get in.

In the meantime, I am selling my 04 Audi A4 1.8T convertible (15,700 miles) on my own instead of trading it in.....the dealers were not interested in it really which is ok too. Had it serviced, detailed and still another year on the warranty so i should sell it easy.....

I'm fine without a car too - we have a work truck we can use....but how long should I wait and I really hate to give that deposit to one dealership and hope he gets what I want. Seems like I am better off looking at them all - suggestions?

OH this is one quote I got but turned it down (in case this helps anyone)

    Limited Time Offer:

    2007 CR-V EX-L Leather 2WD (auto) = $24,800 (limited supply)
    Destination Charge = 595
    Processing = 487
    Luggage Basket = 532
    Running Boards = 590
    Body Side Molding = 279
    Door Visor = 238
    Wheel Locks = 65
    Fog Lights = 475
All Season Floor Mats = 153
    Rear Armrest Tray = 121
    Cargo Tray = 118
Auto Day Night Mirror = 419
Interior Trim Kit, wood look = 339
    Tax = 7%
    Title = 21

    Grand Total = $31,276.77

    THX :)

    I don't understand.

Your dealer can look at his in transit report and see what is in the pipeline. He should know when to expect delivery based on "build dates".

    I wouldn't buy a 2WD unless you are in a southern climate.
  • thankdogthankdog Member Posts: 14
Yeah, the dealer said they have two coming in silver but that one was sold. he said i can buy the other but it wasnt configured how i wanted it. (didnt have the extras I would like - from that list I posted above). They were expected to arrive in 4-6 weeks. he said if I dont buy that 2nd one then who knows when there will be another silver one.....I am in a southern climate (Atlanta) BUT want the AWD for resale.....

    :)
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I missed the Allanta part. 2WD might be fine there?

No Honda comes with those items you listed. They are all dealer installed after the cars arrive.

I will be buying the fighting chance package this weekend and tell everyone how it goes.

spike69, i read through some of their sample materials including "the big picture for pontiac" and i have to say, i'm not impressed. according to that piece, people who used their package paid (i'm averaging here) about $300 to $400 dollars over invoice on cars they admitted were not "hot" and which had 75+ days of inventory. i dunno...i'd imagine people could do LOTS better on those cars. and, by all accounts, the '07 CR-V is indeed hot and, if honda averages a 30-day inventory for all cars, i'd imagine inventories for the CR-V are even less.

i see several problems with the those prices they're citing. for one, they seem to represent the exception rather than the norm. secondly, the prices cited for the CR-V are kind of dated, all going back to before the new year (december is a slowish month and there are year end and month end goals dealerships may have been trying to meet), and finally, you don't know what the "haggled" selling price included or what the other terms were. for example, maybe they haggled a great price on the CR-V but got royally screwed on their trade-in. or, perhaps, they got a great price on the CR-V but paid $800 in "doc" fees that other dealers charge $35 for. maybe they paid full price for the extended warranty and/or options or high-profit dealer items like paint protection, lo-jack, glass etching, etc.

    still, i wish you luck.
  • thankdogthankdog Member Posts: 14
Thanks isellhondas.....ok, so then I am ok getting a good price on just the EX-L AWD w/Navi (good based on info here) and then adding the extras? Should I try to negotiate the costs for those items too or just accept what they say? I was planning to compare them to the online Honda stated costs to make sure they arent marked up from that at least.....or - do i ask them to throw in some of that since I'm paying cash, or does that even matter?

    TIA

edited to add: Is there any wiggle room in destination charges or processing charges?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
When you look at those accessory prices online through Honda you have to know those prices do not include labor. On some time consuming accessories, the labor can approach the price of the part! Usually there isn't much room in those prices. They don't care if you are paying cash. It makes no difference, they get paid either way.

Destination charges are fixed, we pay them and pass them on to you. Usually doc. fees are fixed. You can't charge one person one price and another person a different price. We charge 35.00. some of the fees I've seen in these forums are nuts!
  • thankdogthankdog Member Posts: 14
ok, I understand. I forgot about labor.....that makes sense. My brother was a mechanic for Honda for years. Someone has to pay for the arthritis he now has in his back and hands :-)

WOW only $35!!!!! Here I have been quoted $487! It is insane! I guess if ppl are willing to pay it then they charge it.

Looks like I will have to go out of pocket a little bit then. I was hoping to sell my car for the same as I could get this one.

    Thank you.

    thankdog,

my local honda dealership lists the price of parts and the price installed. although this doesn't apply to you since you're in ATL, this will still give you a pretty good idea of what things should cost installed: http://www.carmichaelhondastore.com/store/crv07.html.

(this is the brick & mortar parts department; they also have an online store at http://www.handaaccessories.com)

OH thats very helpful to see what others are charging/paying.

    Thank you!
  • thankdogthankdog Member Posts: 14
Just curious what others are paying for processing fees for the new CR-V.

In Atlanta it is just under $500.
    isellhondas said theirs is $35.

Seems dealerships charge a wide range for this fee.

Looking forward to feedback from others.

the 'doc' fee ('document preparation fee') is for filling out and filing the paperwork. some dealerships charge exhorbitant doc fees to pad their profit margin because many people just assume it is a fixed cost like the destination charge and/or because they know they can get away with it. however, it is negotiable and should only be what it costs to do the paperwork. my dealer charged me $40.

this is why i'm leery of reading about some of the prices paid...what if someone reports that they paid $200 under invoice for their CR-V but also paid $800 in doc fees?

Hi there - My Sunfire went to car heaven a few weeks ago and I've been researching and driving cars since then, but have to FINALLY make my final move by Monday (boyfriend wants his truck back). I'm pretty much down to either a Forester or a CR-V at this point, and I've read the comparison threads - I just need to make the decision.

Unless I can get a killer deal on something new that's not a base model, I don't really want to go over $18K and would prefer to stay in the $15K-$17K range.

The top CR-V on my list to drive tomorrow are a 2005 SE with 29K miles listed at about $18.8K and pretty much loaded. At first glance this seems like a great deal, but is there something in particular I should watch for? And, it's not at a Honda dealer, so it won't be "certified."

    Thanks!

You would hope that if someone was a good enough negotiator to get a vehicle for $200 under invoice (selling price) they wouldn't pay $800 in fees.

Here the law mandates how much dealers can charge for DOC fees. It doesn't mean it's mandatory but you can't pay more than X. The fee went up on Jan.1, to (I think) a little over $70 (for the original poster).

I bought the fighting chance package last year and can tell you that the information provided there was not at all what I expected and was very disappointed. Now I didn't use the support line for any assistance but in all honesty not sure they can help you get the best deal in your area.

    thankdog,

In southeastern Massachusetts we were quoted $310 for title/registration and doc fees(15 for reg, 50 for title, 5 for title prep and 244 for "doc prep"). In RI it's 95 for doc prep and then extra for registration, etc. when I go to the Mass DMV.

I e-mailed a dealer in Freehold NJ who e-mailed me back if I was happy with their offer. I hadn't received their first e-mail(if it was sent) so I e-mailed back and they called yesterday. I knew I was in trouble when he said oh those "navi" cars are in short supply. We're getting MSRP. You know they are coming over from Japan. When do you want the car. I told him when he comes down from MSRP. Supply and demand is funny. Anybody want to buy a Prius now?
  • drive62drive62 Member Posts: 637
You know they are coming over from Japan.

And from a Japanese car company no less, how bizarre ;) .

You could pick up a new 05 back then from 22.5k to mid 23.5k so see if he would come down a bit. I would make sure it was serviced and it comes with the remaining factory warranty.

    Good Luck

    My original post #4521

This is the deal I got on my 2007 CRV LX 2WD:

    selling price $20596.39
    destination $ 599.95
    Fla. Battery Fee $ 6.50
    Tax 6% $ 1272.17
    MVWEA $ 2.00
    Tag & Title $ 123.00

    Total OTD $22600.00

Plus a 2 night/3 day cruise to the Bahamas for 4.

I know this is not the greatest deal certainly no where near invoice, but I do not feel I got hosed. I am going to sell my vehicle online any suggestions. Also need info regarding extended warranty.

I did originally put down a deposit because the car was due in 2-3 weeks, it came in the next morning. After my post and replys, I got my original deposit back and talked with other dealers. I tried negociations with 6 other dealers in 3 other counties no one was giving below msrp and all had ther doc fees. Noone had the CRV I wanted on the lot, although I was flexible on color.
I think maybe in a couple of months the prices could be more neg. but my current vehicle is old and unreliable and sure to be another $1000.00 repair the next time.
I regretted that I put a deposit down, and I would not do that again in the future even though I clearly specified is was a refundable deposit.
Throught out the entire negociation, my internet salesman was polite & professional. This forum was invaluable to me, although I was alone in the dealership I knew all of you here were there with me in encouragement. Thanks so much.

    Hello,
Bought a car over the phone from Boch Honda, Norwood, MA last weekend. Spoke with 3 dealerships - and Boch was definitely the one that started out with a good price and negotiated without any bullsh*t. I worked with the Manager of the Internet Sales dept.

This is my second time buying a car over the phone and it has worked well for us. You need to know exactly what you want including all accessories. I inform them that I have done research and know what people are paying for the cars. I never tell them the price I want... I tell them that the first quote they give me will show me how serious they are about selling the car to me. Once I get a few quotes - I usually have a feel for who I want to nail down a final price with. Some of the Internet Sales dept try to convince you to come to the dealership or have no power to really negotiate.

    CRV EX-L AWD no navigation
    Accessories (including installation)
roof rack, All season floor mats, cargo tray, cargo cover, auto d/n mirror.

Boch Honda first quote (over phone)
first quote: $26,965 breakdown as follows
    Base: $25,268.00
    access: $1395
    Doc fee: $298

    Bernardi Honda, Natick (over phone)
    first quote: $27,655
    base: $25,895
    accessories $1465.
    doc fee: $294.75

Herb Chambers, Burlington MA (over phone):
    Quote: $27,876
    base: $26,595.00 (would not negotiate)
    accessories: $1083.
    doc fee: 198

Bernardi second final quote once they knew I had a better offer: $26,800

Boch final quote and what we paid for the car:
$26,176 (includes, base, accessories and doc fee)

The car was on the lot (glacier blue), got a VIN # and an email confirming price and accessories installed. No issues when we went to the dealership. Test drove the actual car. The rest of the process went smoothly. I hope this info helps.
  • smile_ccsmile_cc Member Posts: 13
Just to clarify my post above.

    1. The base price included the destination charge.
    2. The only charges on top of the prices I provided were 5% sales tax and License/Registration fees.
  • valliebvallieb Member Posts: 4
    thanks for the comment!
yep - the remaining factory warranty is on it and it's the SE model with a few extras, even. i checked the KBB value and it's $24K. boyfriend is coming with me for a second drive, but i think i'll probably take the plunge. only question now is whether to get an additional warranty.
  • beerloverbeerlover Member Posts: 20
FYI- I was quoted $500 under msrp at a couple of places but that is as low as I could get em. I'm in no hurry so I will try again in the summer.
Philly area - 07 EX CRV with msrp $24,645 (with dest charge)
got $24,145 (including dest charge) and no lower. I will buying when they are will to knock another grand off or at least another $500.

Debating the costco route. Anybody know what they are getting them for?

First, I would like to thank everyone on this forum for the information and negotiating tips.

I purchased my CR-V EX-L 4WD (without Navigation) for $24,900 + $119 (doc. Fee) from David Hobbs Honda in Milwaukee, WI. I would highly recommend this dealership. I had to wait for about six weeks for my vehicle to arrive after paying a $500 deposit. They kept me informed of the vehicle’s status during this time and delivered as promised.

In contrast, I had a very poor experience at Russ Darrow Honda, also in Milwaukee. They quoted a price of $25,042 + $129 (service fee) in December. I called them up to confirm the price and the date I would go from Madison, WI, to get the vehicle. When I reached the dealership on the appointed day, they showed me the vehicle but said the original quote is no longer valid and they can only sell it at a price $500 higher than the original quote. I simply walked out and nobody made any effort to negotiate any further. I am glad that I did not have to buy it from that dishonest dealer and also saved a little money in the process.

Just curious; what accessories did you get? Pretty big difference among dealers in those prices, too.

Thanks for the post. I got the same car (same model, same color) from Weymouth Honda three weeks ago, at similar price I guess (I paid invoice plus $120 doc fee + TTL). I am now considering buying some accessories, such as all season floor mats, cargo tray and front splash guards. Any folks have experience of DIY? I'd really appreciate your inputs!

    Hi,

How much luck do people have with using honda.com's "build and price" and then requesting a quote via the website?

I've read a lot about internet/fleet/house sales and the fax/email/phone approaches and am wondering if these have any advantage over simply picking what I want from the honda website and hitting the button to get quotes.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
I did not have much luck. Unlike Toyota, Honda motor company does not monitor dealer responses. Inquiries for hot vehicles like CRV can go unresponded as happened with me. I did make a couple of quote requests for the RAV4 and in each case Toyota corporate office e-mailed back if I was happy with the dealer response. I had a similar experience after test drives. In the case of Toyota the fleet manager called back to inquire if I was satisfied with my expereince at their dealership. In the case of Honda, after the test drive I sent an e-mail to the sales person (at Richfield Honda - MN) I never received a quote to this day! Again no action from Honda corporate office or the dealership. I guess that is the difference between a world class Toyota and any other company. The system does not let a weak link in the chain to cause damage. Well Honda has a better product so I put up with all this and here I am waiting for a CRV EX-L that I booked in December:)

Does anyone have a feel for how much negotiating room a dealer has as far as the Honda-backed warranty is concerned? I saw what I want at myhondawarranty.com: 60 months; 80k miles, $100 deductible for $460.
(btw, don't you love the way the original warranty time/mileage is inside that 60 months and 80k miles?)

    also:
what exactly is involved in the paperwork that the dealer calls "documentary fees?" I'm looking at $285 on that if I do the deal. Haven't started negotiating it.
  • yankeefan2yankeefan2 Member Posts: 53
Read Message #4568. For the mud flaps all you have to do is take 3 screws out, put mud flap on and put the 3 screws back. It took me 15 minutes to put them on. If you don't have all the types of screw drivers, you might have to take the wheel off to put the back screw off and on. The Floor mats and Cargo tray is RR.

I think the poster listed the accessories in the original post.

Finally, after 2 months of waiting. My Glacier Blue LX, arrived from out-of-state late yesturday evening (AL). But to my surprise, owners of CRV's have to buy every little thing! And was told it cost over $200 dollars. Is this true?
A self can cost this kind of money??

No, the LX's come without that shelf.

    Just the EX's.

Remove and Replace. That is Remove the Rug floor mats and put the all season ones in (they are real Nice too) and just place the cargo mat in place. If you go to the web site I mention in post #4568 they will give you instructions on how to put the mud flaps on. :shades:

I tend to get this response from all off the DFW Dealers (Via EMail thru though) that "2007 CR-V 2WD With NAVI" are going with MSRP -- Is that true? Has anyone got a Decent deal recently? If so, can you please post ur #s (or else email me @ reach4mohan@gmail.com)

    Thanks!

MY experience buying 2 2007 CR-V's in Salt Lake:

My sister in law and wife are both getting 07 CR-V's AWD EX-L with Navi. Because we are buying 2 I was able to get $1,000 off msrp for both, and that was by going through the internet departments of 2 dealers (Ken Garff and Willey Honda) that beat each other's offers until we bottomed out at the $1000 off. TMV in my area is just $200 off msrp.

I knew that $1000 off msrp is good for the way these cars are selling but I still went into Ken Garff and tried to get an even better deal from the salesperson. The only thing he would do is match Willey's doc fee that is $100 cheaper. He seemed annoyed that he was mathcing the other dealer's offer and let us walk without really trying to get the sale, which told me we really did have a good deal. Although for the work of 1 sale he was moving 2 cars, so I was surprised he didn't try harder to make the sale. He probably knows he can sell them for more, but still.

So I confidently went to Willey Honda and had a much more pleasant experience. But as we were signing the hold orders (both cars are just coming off the production line in Japan, e.g. 3 week wait)the salesperson confided that their average discount for shoppers is $500 - $550 off msrp, and that through Costco you only get $300 off. He said that for the CR-V it was not a good idea to go through Costco - this may be different for other cars, I don't know. My advice is before you go through Costco see what sort of a deal you can get through the internet dept. of your dealer. A lot of the time the internet sales people are allowed to make deals that show room salespeople can't.

I haven't decided on accessories yet if any, but here are the numbers for each car as they stand until the cars come in:

    MSRP + Dest. fee: $28,595
    Discount: -$ 1,000
    Taxes @ 6.5%: $ 1,793
    Doc fee: $ 199
    Title, Reg: $ 197

    My Price: $29,784

Now my questions is: Do I have any chance at getting any deal on accessories or working any better deal now that I've ordered the cars? And did I get as good a deal as I think I did?
  • cravehondacravehonda Member Posts: 9
Thanks a bunch! I'll place my order online soon.

    Hello everyone,
I am actually in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, not the city. Anyway, I have narrowed down my vehicle search to a glacier blue metallic CR-V EX-L (with navi). I was told the best way to buy a car is to find out the invoice, add on a fair profit for the dealer and then try and find a dealer who will match that price.

I am trying to find the invoice on this vehicle but so far have only found the price of $25,800. I know the MSRP 9with destination) is around $28,000. Does anyone have another invoice price? What is a “fair” profit to offer the dealer? Also, is there a “good” time to buy a car? I was told the end of March is a good time. Thanks in advance for any help!!

You did not mention if you are looking for AWD or not... Edmunds has a cute guide for finding car pricing in you area (thru use of zip code.) In the west it breaks down (using edmunds system) FWD CRV exl with navi... $26,800 MSRP, $24,780 invoice price, TMV (true market value ie what other are paying) $26,562. AWD CRV exl with navi... $28,000 MSRP, $25,887 invoice price, TMV $27,774. these numbers do not include destination, options,TTL etc. This is only one source for a guide line.. I have seen pricing on this forum that is all over the map. So it boils down to you & the dealers in your area to negotiate the best price you can. I was able to get CRV exl FWD "no navi" in early december for $26,600 OTD. GOOD LUCK TO YOU... :)
  • valliebvallieb Member Posts: 4
thanks for that! it's charcoal gray, SE model. KBB is $24K+, they are selling for $18K+. HOWEVER...boyfriend and i looked at it again saturday and noticed there was some minor damage to the front passenger side, up by the headlight. the light doesn't fit in quite right, it's a little bent and there's a bit of a gap between the bumper and the side of the car. it's not on carfax, and the whole thing gives me pause. i could have it inspected and go with what they say, but i think i'm probably better off with a non-damaged, albeit less loaded, vehicle. :(

at this point, i may be going with an '06 LX with 19K miles that the dealer will install a moonroof into for me. under 20K, all said and done.

i hate car shopping. it's been dragging on and i'm almost in tears.
  • valliebvallieb Member Posts: 4
As in, too high to buy and expect a reliable car that I can drive for 10 years? I'm having a hard time finding the options/cost balance (see my earlier post about my too-good-to-be-true deal car having mystery accident damage...) in a car under 30K, but at the 40K level, I can afford the EX package, etc. Is there a common "tipping point" for CR-Vs? Should I hop on a good deal for, say, a 2004 with 42K miles, or hold out for something newer/lower?

This is a question for Isellhondas and other dealers on the forum. Do you know in what month Honda usually releases the new model year? When will the 2008 CRV likely come out?

Do you think it is likely that Honda will make changes to the CRV, for example offering more interior/exterior color combinations (e.g. currently the choice of exterior colors is very limited if you want ivory interior).

    Thanks

Instead of focusing so much on the mumber of miles, I would go by overall condition. A well maintained Honda can easily go 250,000 miles or more.

We usually start seeing the mew models in Sept-October.

Since the CRV is a new model this year, I would expect few if any changes. They might dump a slow selling color and add another. As far as I'm concerned they could dump that ivory interior all together although I'm sure it sells better in hot climates.
