I searched the CarMax site (always a good source of info for a 'fair' price) and pulled up the typical 'what others are buying for' price here. MSRP was $35,080; invoice was $32,019; I paid $31,152 after the rebate. Was prepared to drive to White Flint to get it from CarMax, but instead got it from Passport Nissan in Alexandria, Va. with little hassle; they gave fair trade value for my old PT Cruiser, too, and that put the car into the 'affordable' range for me.

How much did you pay out the door (excluding your trade in) ? I am planning for Murano in next couple days and I am also from VA. Can you tell me your options ?

    Thanks.

We just bought our SL AWD last night. :) Rosenthal Nissan - Tysons Corner,VA
Thank you all for the helpful info here.

We are now the proud owners of SL AWD, Pewter/Cafe Latte with the Touring Package and VDC.

We paid dealer invoice price for the vehicle.

For negotiation purposes, I brought with us:

     - Edmunds TMV
     - CarsDirect Target Price
     - An ad from a local dealership for the car at DI
     - the worksheet available on www.carbuyingtips.com

They didn't even try to argue, just shook our hands and said congratulations. Easy as pie.

Also, we arranged pre-approved financing through Capitol One Auto Finance, and when the dealer offered a lower interest rate, we declined it, but took their offer to COAF this morning, and they lowered theirs to an even lower amount. We went from 4.49% to 3.79%

Thanks again for all the helpful advice.

My wife and I bought our Murano in Stone Mtn at the same name dealer. An SL 2WD, no leather, sunroof w/ Bose pkg- sticker was $31,820. I took the edmunds list and a newspaper add for another dealer. The add was for $24999.on 2005 Muranos. Of course, they weren't out yet, so when the salesman called me on it, I simply explained they would give me the 24.9 price anyway. He agreed, added only $1,500 for the sunroof/Bose combo and went and picked up the exact car we wanted at the sister dealer- all on Sunday!! (I mentioned in the Problem/Sloution board that the salesman had copies of edmunds.com for references.)Forgot to add, we got 1.9% thru NMAC

dealer was Coggin Nissan here in Jacksonville Florida. Purchased through their internet sales manager. I bought the car when Nissan was offering the $1,000 rebate, but I will tell you that no other dealer in town would offer the same price. THe sales manager said I got that deal because he knew I had already been mislead by another dealer and that I had little tolerance for games...hhmmmm....
I think the other factor was that I told them up front I had a leased car and was in no hurry to buy unless there was an incentive to do so then....Just happened that they had just the car I wanted...Silver with Cafe latte leather, and they had about 26 others on the lot, mostly base models

    Hi,
I saw your post on here & am looking to purchase an '04 SL AWD in the next month to 6 weeks. Where did you purchase your Murano & @ what dealership?
I went to Westbury & wasn't pleased w/the offer the man threw out at me. Quite honestly, I think 499/mo is outrageous on Tier 1 credit as a lease. I mean..after all, I'm looking for a Murano not a Mercedes.
Any feedback you have would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Michele

I am out the door on a "04" Murano sl awd with the sl touring package, floor mats, mud guards, cargo protector and sun roof wind deflector for $30,500.

The question I have is on the warranty.

Is $1149 to much for a 6yr/100,00 mile warranty and if it is do they play games with the prices with those things just to put more money in their pockets ????

What is a reasonable price for this type of extended protection ??

I drive about 18,000 miles a year and will be out of the standard warranty in two years.
    Thanks for your help.

    JFS

Ps Did I do well on the car deal or did I get the royal screw job ???

I believe the power train warranty on a Murano is 5 years, or 60,000 miles and everything else is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Whether or not it's worth $1149 for the miles between 60k and 100k, is an entirely personal decision.

If an unexpected (unbudgeted?) repair should be required at some time in the future, would it cause you great pain? How about sticking the $1149 in a safe saving account (or cookie jar) and see if you ever need it?

By the way, if your quote of $1149 is for the $0 deductible plan, then your price is onhe of the best I've seen. If it's the $50 deductible, then it's good, not great, price.

It was the 50 dollar deductable.

Put a deposit on an 04 SL AWD Murano this evening.
Just wondering if 4800 down & 375 a month lease for 39 months a rip off or a decent deal.
This is my first least w/Nissan & the car to be purchased in NY. Dealer said that I was only charged 212 over their cost price.
Total cost = 31609 + NY rip off tax.
Any advice is appreciated as I'm new to this.

    hi all,
thanks for everyone's input. It really helped me in making my purchase of an '04 Murano SL AWD in Polished Pewter with Touring Package, Navi package, carpeted floor mats, cargo protector and splash guards. I bought mine on Aug.30 in Dublin CA for $600 under invoice, plus they gave me what i wanted for my trade in and the 2% financing. I'm very pleased with the deal and the dealer.

That sounds like a big down payment for a lease. The whole point of a lease is to NOT give a big down payment. The terms of a lease are very different than the terms of a purchase where you can expect a larger down. The terms of a lease deal with residual value and a money factor. To find out what the deal should be, go to a very helpful site: www.leaseguide.com and click on the Lease Calculator. For the residual value, use 54% with a .0028 money factor, over 36 or 39 months, and see what it works out to. This is a high residual and a low money factor; the norm that the dealer will use could be as low as 41% residual and .0038 money factor. FYI: A .0038 money factor equates to roughly 9% financing. Dealers will try to screw you on the financing if they (a) think they can and (b) to make up for any lower price they gave you on the car. They will also look to stretch the lease out longer to reap the interest. IF you have a FICO of 700+ you should be able to dictate the terms of the lease. Educate yourself so you know what's going on with the lease game.

I am going to buy a AWD SL MO with the Touring package and VDC package within a couple of weeks. Can Anyone tell me what prices they are getting for cars similar to this, around the San Francisco area. And can anyone tell me if I should wait a little longer for the '05s to come out so that the '04s become less expensive. Thanks for your advice.

If any one is in the area, my salesman was transferred from Stn mtn to Troncalli Nissan. He was truly great to deal with. Not a bunch of hype or crap, just straight to the point dealing. It was a true pleasure to buy the car. We got our Murano for the edmunds.com TMV (a little less) plus our options, which he helped us out with. I believe the mgr is still in Stn Mtn. He was very helpful too.

I bought a Murano on 9/25 and the dealer (Pence Nissan in Richmond, VA) offered an angle on the extended warranty that I haven't seen mentioned in these forums. If I don't use the extended coverage at all between 36k miles/3 years and 100k/ 6 years, they will refund the entire premium. It's a clever ploy. What if one has a $500 problem at 85,000 miles - should it be claimed or swallowed, in hopes of getting twice that amount back in one year?

They require a written request for the refund within 90 days of passing the mileage/time milestone and are clearly counting on many people to forget. I was told that the dealer started offering it 3 years ago, so has no real idea yet how it will work out. The warranty is transferable if the car is sold, of course, but the money back offer is not.

I was quoted a price of $1,449 for the $50 deductible. Because of this forum, I knew the right price was about $1,049, so countered at $1,000. The guy said, "Geez, it costs us $1,024, I can't sell it to you for that." I don't know whether that was the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but agreed to $1,099 because I thought the money back angle was creative enough to warrant a $50 premium.

It is bumper-to-bumper coverage, not just powertrain. Its appeal probably depends on one's driving/ownership habits. I cover 20-22k miles/year and tend to buy new and drive until it dies, so it's highly likely that I will still own the car when it hits 100k miles.

Are all thes prices that are under invoice AFTER or BEFORE the rebate!?
  • temtem Member Posts: 3
In our area (200 mile radius of DC), the going price on '04 Muranos is $300 under invoice before rebate. There are at least two large dealers near DC that advertise that price on their web site, although you need to work through their Internet sales group who are paid salary, not commission.

Look at dealer websites in your area and print off their "Internet Specials" that apply to the package that you are interested in. Take it to your dealer and - based on my own experience and that of many posters in this forum - he will match it.
  • tacomaboytacomaboy Member Posts: 35
Well my first choice is a 350Z, second is a Murano. I know thats strange because they are so different. But if I cant make the deal work on the Z, its good to know I can get a great deal on a Murano... with leather seats no less! :D
  • fezzfezz Member Posts: 4
    snowrider,
I bought the exact car that you wanted and got 600 under invoice before rebate in San Jose. I took the 2% financing instead of the rebate.
It's your choice to wait for more discount but I am very happy with what I got

    Good luck

It sounds like you bought about what I am looking for. Your price sounds good. Does anyone know who is the best dealer in Chicago suburbs? I haven't bought Japanese since the early 80's. I really like the style and quality of this Nissan.

My co-worker bought a copper colored Murano AWD SL with leather, sun roof etc back in July. He told me that he got a good deal with price before tax license of $1500 below the INVOICE (not the MSRP).
Can any one give me some tips on what is a good deal on the 04 model given that we are close to the year end.

My local Southern California Nissan dealer has a 2004 Murano SL with an MSRP of $29,110 selling for $23,999. Is that a good deal? I'm thinking of going down there today with checkbook in hand.

That is a really really good deal. Go for it! And while your at it, buy me one too.

Any Murano owners out there from Western New York? What kind of prices have you paid? How's the Murano doing in the snow?
  • stam1stam1 Member Posts: 1
A co-worker of mine purchased a 2004 Nissan Murano from a dealership in Georgia and an extended warranty this past Sunday. The dealer calls him back today and wanted an extra $200 because the finance guy made a mistake on the price of the extended warranty. If the co-worker won't budge, the dealer threatened to cancel the whole deal.

I thought a contract is a contract. Can a dealer in GA do that? Is there a grace period that allow dealers to negate on a deal? I am surprise that a dealer would blow a deal over $200.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I just don't know contract law in Georgia to help him.

    Thanks,
    stam1

I am starting to shop for a Murano for my son and wanted to know how to best utilize both the incentives on the Murano and the fact the 2005 models should be arriving soon. I'm tending toward a used car, mainly because of cost, but would like a 2004 model if possible. It seems like some of the deals on new cars are better than on the used.

There is a $1000 customer rebate expiring on 11/01. Is this as good as it gets or should I hold out for more pressure from the 2005's?

I am in Texas, if that fact is germaine...

I just bought an '04 Murano from Mid-City Nissan in Chicago. Based on what I learned on this message board, I figured I would shoot for $1000 under invoice. After some heated negotiating, I ended up getting it for exactly the price I wanted. I should have started even lower, maybe $2000 below invoice. Anyway, I bought the SL with the touring package, 2WD. Thanks to those who posted their experiences here...it really helped out in the negotiating process.

Looking at a similar MO and wondering how to get such a great deal. Would love the Touring pkg but might leave it off unless we can get a killer deal like that. How did you do that? Was the price reduced to help you pay off your lease? How'd you do it?

    Hey folks,
I wanted to know what other people have gotten for a lease on a fully loaded 2004 SE AWD Murano (no DVD or Nav, but everything else).
    I was given a price of $424.00/month, 42 month lease, $990.00 down or $367.00/month, 42 months lease, $3098.00 down.
I think they want to get rid of the remaining 2004's but I would like to know what other people got for deals or if they think this is a good one. THANKS!
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
$3098.00 is a lot to put down on a lease. Our experts recommend putting down the LEAST amount possible when leasing, because if your car is stolen or wrecked, you have lost that investment forever. You should have a quick read of our Dissecting the Deal leasing article before making the decision to put that much down.

I GOT MY MO LAST APRIL AND WAS GIVEN A PRICE OF $44,OOO CANADIAN ON THE ROAD IF DONE VIA REGULAR NISSAN FINANCING. THE MANAGER THEN ADVISED ME THAT HE CAN DO IT AT $43,500 IF FINANCED VIA THE BANK BUT WITH A HIGHER FINANCE RATE...BUT AT THAT TIME, HE WAS NOT AWARE THAT I AM CONSIDERING PAYING IN FULL..SO, I AGREED ON THE BANK FINANCING, PAID MY FIRST MONTH AND PAID THE FULL BALANCE DIRECTLY TO THE BANK A MONTH LATER...ISN'T THIS A GOOD DEAL?...I'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM MY FELLOW CANADIAN BUYER.

I'm a lease-moron... I've just never done it before. My goals were simple, get the most loaded car for the cheapest monthly payment, and with no money down. All I had was a 1999 Mitsu Mirage with zero options (except A/C) to put as a trade-in (it got me through pretty lean school-years). So I just got a '04 Murano SL Black/Black leather with the Touring package, Dynamic Control Package, Navigation system (even though that doesn't work here in Alaska), Chrome wheels, Satellite radio, roof rail cross bars, carpet mats, and sunroof wind deflector. So it was pretty much stacked.
Ended up with a $450 monthly lease payment for 48 months, 15,000 miles per year, and as stated, absolutely 0 out-of-pocket money, just the trade-in. Porsche was going to give us $2500 for the Mirage, Nissan gave us $5500 for it.
Overall good deal, or not good? tigger5753's $314/mo sounds pretty good...
    Thanks.

    Hi all,
Since it is the end of the year and dealers want to get sell their cars.
I am looking into a 04 Murano SL AWD. Is it possible to get $2000 below invoice???
    Thanks
  • ashwenashwen Member Posts: 38
    pf2001,
You won't know untill you try but with the $1500 consumer cash on 2004's in lieu of financing, you should be able to easily get more.

If you go with 1.9% APR financing, it will all depend on how desperate the dealership is to move the 2004s. But $2,000 under invoice won't be surprising given its so close to year-end. Make sure to go to the dealership that has the most number of 2004 Murano's left; this way you have choice and dealer will be more willing to make a deal.

Ended up with a $450 monthly lease payment for 48 months, 15,000 miles per year.

That sounds pretty good to me, they are asking 448 a month for 42 months and 12k/yr for a loaded 05 SL w/o the bling bling wheels here. Thats with 3k outta pocket....still sitting on doing this one.

You think so far you got a nice deal/car for that price?
  • ashwenashwen Member Posts: 38
    CX2E,

Before anything do not include your trade-in in the lease. Ask them to write you a check for the trade-in amount and then work the lease. It is a bad idea to put money down or trade-in (with equity) in a lease deal.

Coming to the numbers: assuming your MSRP for the car is $36,000 and your actual negotiated price is $33,000, you should be looking at $412.00 plus tax every month. This is without the trade-in (remember - get a check). Your trade-in check will cover about 8 months of your lease payments. :)

I just got another Nissan, a 2004 Murano SE. I paid $29,010.00 out the door. Is this a good price? The MSRP was about $31,500.00.

This is our third Nissan in 3 months.

    Los Angeles Area.

    Hi,

Over the past 10 years or so, I have leased 3 Nissans (2 Maximas and 1 G35), plus a couple of other cars. I have bascially decided that the MSRP of the car is relatively meaningless and not worth the time to negotiate. What really counts is the monthly payment (after all, that's why you lease!).

So, I'd like this board's opinion on what is a "great deal" on a Murano lease (SL, Touring Package, Nav). Let's say minimum down (<$2,000). What is a steal? $425/month? $400/month? Less? What should I shoot for? I live in Los Angeles area, fyi. Thanks for your advice!

Im looking for pretty much the same thing. Im surprised that you got such a low price. My dealership's MSRP is a $33,850, and I can barely make $30,000 out the door.

I was wondering how much is your APR, and could you please give me the name of your dealer?

    Thanks

Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply.

I think you did better than I did.

Power Nissan of El Monte. The final price was not contingent on cash or financing. If you can find any more 04's left, I think you can do better. Call around and go straight to the internet sales guy.
