Any chance we will see a hybrid engine. With the uncertainties surrounding oil pricing and availability I would really like to have a significant increase in fuel economy. While more power is always welcome, I am happy with power on my 2000.
More comfortable front seats would also be great. On a long trip they seem hard and do not mold to your body well.
Yeah, sure, you could add the back-up sensors, but how much does it cost to add it at the dealer? $1K ? Reareview camera another $1K? DVD player another $2K.
I hate it when they make me add things at the dealer. It's a rip-off. Factory installed is always better and less expensive.
If you have a great looking minivan with an ugly front grill and a totally ugly looking minivan with an ugly front grill, the offspring's chances of looking great is slim to none.
Man, I just hope Toyota adds a nice chrome grill to the next Sienna because if the new Ody looks anything like the Quest, it is doomed even before release.
Yes Honda did offer that BUT, I meant they currently offer DVD Player OR GPS Nav System. You can't get both at the same time. Rearview camera wasn't offered (at least I don't think) and the sensors were also offered.
Here's my guess on the 8 features you're promising from the list:
1. Glass Antenna 2. Nav + DVD 3. Split 3rd row 4. Power lift gate 5. Power rear windows 6. Power doors 7. Leather wheel 8. 17" alloys
None of those seem very earth shattering so I'm assuming there must be something else given all the buzz. A hybrid engine would do it. Maybe some really cool electronic features like they've put in the new Acura TL. Blue tooth phone, etc.
What I'm wondering is when this thing is going to show. I went to the LA auto show and the only thing I could get out of the Honda marketing personnel was that it would be out this spring 100% guaranteed. Now, I'm reading fall delivery everywhere. What's the scoop?
how about not having to take off the headrests to drop the seats. hid headlights nav with parking assist allows cd changer---hear me toyota!!!! less bundles more ala cart, anti toyota bundles larger scree options for entertainment system, you can get an all in one 10 inch for 800
--#564 No Hybrid engine, BUT Honda has a new type engine to save a little gas that is unlike ANY other on the road.
--#565,567,568 BE PATIENT UNTIL AUGUST !(HINT)
--#569 Turbo, only trial runs are being done now but they are drivable. Full production will not begin until the end of July. No phones in van either. The big buzz will be about the new engine !! More h.p., more mileage !! Also 90% of what you want is on new '05.
--#570 No , middle seats cannot fold flat & only some models will have spare tire that is located at that position.
--571 No HID, but MUCH improved headlights. Headrest remain the same as now. The other items you ask about will come in time around the fall !
No wood grain on any vans that have been built. I was using the hypothesis that if the Quest & sienna had a baby as a JOKE people ! Front end is more similar to Sienna. The length & width looks like that of the Quest. THE FRONT GRILL LOOKS NICE & IS NOT BLACK !!! See my profile to see my responses to the other group about the new features on '05.
...is that the 05 Ody will be much improved over the 04 Ody, but will not match the Sienna Limited w/Nav+DVD due to price constraints.
You won't get woodtrim, Acura looks, Laser Cruise control, High Intensity Discharge headlamps, and Intuitive Parking Assist with both Front and Back Sonar sensors. For those who want AWD, you can forget about that due to price constraints.
Like most of us have speculated, Honda will much improve on the new Ody, but Honda's philosophy is not to break the piggy bank either. In other words, we won't be seeing any $41K Ody.
This will appeal to a lot of people, but not to me.
Looks like I'll be getting a Sienna Limited AWD w/NAV+DVD, boys.
I'm in the same boat! I thought i'd wait it out, and get what i really what - everything in an 05 Ody! but looks like i'll have to settle for the next best thing - 04 or 05 Sienna LTD with everything HO pckg
So in other words, we're already disappointed in the new Ody even before it comes out. Whatever happened to being the leader and all that jazz? Looks like Toyota will still be the leader to me. Bigger engine with more HP and more fuel efficient is great, but that alone just doesn't turn me on. I'm still hoping Toyota will eventually turn the Sienna's front grille into a more respectable chrome grille like the Avalon, Landcrusier, or similar. I don't think that's too much to ask for a $41K vehicle.
...that might not be fair, but i'm starting to get very frustrated at this whole process.
More and more i'm hearing what's going on and what not going on the new 05 Ody's the more i feel my stomach twist and turn (it's not my lunch because i did not eat yet
Please Honda-man tell me something i want to hear to keep me going! Let me know i'm not playing this "waiting - game" in vain!
Thats nice bamaboy. I think Honda will have to revise its strategy about info being open to public regarding new releases. If somebody thinks that they can conceal information and bank on excitement/impatience, they are wrong. Time will prove. Look at Nissan.....they already publicized info on their 2005 Pathfinder long time ago...I was not considering a pathfinder before I have seen the info on 2005 PF....Can Honda estimate how many they will LOSE for not making their information open?...Sure they dont have numbers .... I must say "Thank you bamaboy" atleast for what you have come up with
The last 4 cars my wife and I have bought have had moonroofs...they're a strong selling point for both of us. Will that be an option for the new Odyssey?
I assume that Honda isn't worried about selling all of the Odys they can make, given capacity constraints. If nothing else, they should get a big initial surge from people trading up from early (99-00) gen 2s to the next big thing.
That, and all the people looking to get a better deal on a Sienna should keep the showrooms humming.
Are any of these gonna be on the 2005 Honda Odyssey?
Sunroof/Moonroof? Power Folding 3rd Row Seat? Power Hatch? 17" Aluminum Wheels? Outside Temperature Monitor? Curtain Side Airbags? EBD? VSC? ABS? TRAC? AWD Option? Fog Lights? Power Second Row Sliding Door Windows? Tri-Zone Climate Control? Tire Pressure Warning System?
Will the 2005 Honda Odyssey make its World Debut at the 2004 New York Auto Show?
Who in the h3ll said that you will not get Intuitive Parking Assist with both Front and Back Sonar sensors. I SURE DID NOT ! If you want to spend over 37 - 38,000 dollars on a Sienna and HAVE to have AWD go ahead, but the 260 hp. odyssey will BLOW IT AWAY !! By the way I was told today that even with all but a couple of the features that player4 was asking about, the price will not be much more than they are now for the EXL-NAVI. Why not wait and save $ 5,000 - 8,000 over the Sienna later this summer !!!
I got you rattled there, dude? It was intentional for fun :-) It's my way of getting more spills.
Of course I will wait until the new Odyssey comes out before I buy anything! Time is on my side.
Even if I still want to buy the Sienna, I will definitely wait until the new Ody to come out. In fact, if I do decide to buy the Sienna, I hope the Odyssey kicks the Sienna's butt in sales!!! I hope the Odyssey outsells the Sienna 2-to-1 if I decide to buy the Sienna.
So, you say the new Ody has front and back sonar sensors, but no laser cruise control?
I'm watching this board for many weeks, and as I see that many of you Honda fans are "sure" that Honda will kick all competitors away. And you also want everything (all options and features) offered by competitors.
So let me tell you, look at facts, and this won't happen. Honda was always on the simple side (Toyota was, too, but now they changed mind), and I don't believe they will offer all features of the Sienna.
The Sienna, actually, have many features which don't belong in a minivan - I mean, most people don't care about.
- Laser cruise, with so many problems using it, who needs it?
- Rear park assist is very good, most other minivans have it, too. But front? What, are you driving with closed eyes?
- HID lamps was always a luxury feature, reserved for luxury makes (lexus, Acura, Infinity, etc.). So while Toyota did a mistake to offer it on the Sienna (the ONLY Toyota!), all other manufacturers should copy the mistake?
We need just the simple comfort features which we are used to. The current gen. Odyssey have very few features, a lack of heated mirrors is really unheard of, for example.
And note that Toyota still does not offer everything from the competitor. Signal mirrors and cornering lamps from Ford, reverse tilt-down mirrors of the Nissan, etc.
My '02 Windstar still have a few things better than the new Sienna, just to name a few:
- Lighted controls for power window / lock / cruise controls; - Baby sleeping mode lamps; - Keypad entry; - Power adjustable pedals (I like it more than 'manual' telescoping steering wheel); - Self-sealing tires; etc.
The new Honda minivan will probably not be to compare directly with the Sienna. While I love the Sienna (inside only, outside is not my taste) and is on my minivan list once my Windstar's lease will expire in a few months, I do think that Toyota has overdone it a bit. Many features they offer simply does not belong in a minivan.
I know some of you will start screaming now, and telling me that in a few years all minivans will have HID lamps and laser cruise, but I'm still holding to my point.
Thank you, Sylvia. I was wondering the same thing. Everyone has assumed that bamaboy's information is legitimate.
As a matter of fact, I'm from 'bama and I have a 3rd cousin whose ex-girlfriend's father "works for Honda" and has said, under duress of George Dickel (a cousin of Jack Daniel's) that the next Odyssey will have wooden seats. Specifically, "pews" is how he described them.
Anybody have any questions they want me to forward to Bubba?
It looks like bamaboy is working for Honda. Anyway, I just watched a local cable TV show about some new cars. The flat folded second row seat will be on Chrysler minivan. The car has to be re-engineered on underbody, the fuel tank and space tire locations. So it can be done on new Odyssey or any minivan. I wonder Toyota didn't look at this on Sienna. Maybe they (or we, the customers) think second flat folded seat is less important. Yes. Honda please add the sunroof on the next Odyssey. You missed this on the current Odyssey and Pilot.
I think Bamaboy knows what he/she is talking about. The engine changes mentioned by Bamaboy are probably the new V-6 VCM (variable cylinder management) similar in design to the old Cadillac V-8 8-6-4 engine management design that flopped due to unreliability. I have every confidence that Honda can make this technology work. I wonder if Honda will reduce the chassis floor height of the new Odyssey in order to increase interior space and to be able to claim that it has the largest interior in its class. In the Japanese market Ody, the floor has been lowered (and the overall height). I think that the new US market Odyssey will retain its current height (or even grow slightly). Here's my guess as to new features:
Sunroof Roll-down sliding door windows Better stereo with Subwoofer standard on EX and higher models Rear Sonar w/ video screen on Navi 17" wheels 60/40 Split rear seat DVD equipped models will have at least 2 and possibly 4 LCD screens mounted in headrests or rear of seats Taller hood and front end ala new GM minivans to impart a sense of SUV style Power tailgate 260 hp I'll think of more........
some of us appreciate the fact the vehicle isn't otherwised gimic'ed out with lots 'o technology.
some of us don't have the extra 12K or more to ride in all that additional luxury, supposid increased comfort and otherwise display our good fortunes.
i don't have to have it, and i don't value it.
ooohhhh the leather...the wood...the dvd high quality audio and video...
reality: i need to transport myself, my wife and three kids.
...those cheese and peanut butter crackers are inconsistent with that mental image of the faux leather-sided seats, the wood trim, and the flip down (or up) multi-media displays and speakers hidden everywhere.
if i were dressed up and transporting several other people to some fine cultural event like the ballet?
yes...man that would be classy.
otherwise i want a solid transportation experience for me and my family, not a mobile living room.
to win with a customer ((like me)), a manufacturer offers value (and that includes resale), safety, reliability, a lower cost of ownership and yes some innovation.
the manufacturer doesn't chase the competition and they don't toss a winning formula completely out the window.
that makes people ((like me)) question their logic and *NOT* buy their vehicle.
myself, i don't think Honda will do chasing.
just give me better fuel economy, and additional safety where it is cost effective and reliable.
#585 davenow - All that I can say about your queston is no 4 way seat on passenger side ( get my drift ).
#586 andrewtran71 - I will not say they they will or will not but your question should answer itself.
#588 cartagram <------------ Has been dippin' into the George Dickle himself !!!
#589 lok888 - If someone wants mid seats that go into the floor, why not buy a pick-up truck ?? As far as your other question, " If you will wait, it will come " <-- ( Field of Dreams )
#590 shellymeister2 - It seems that EVERYONE is set on copying Toyotas 17" wheels. WHY ?? This will not happen. No DVD in headrests ! As far as the rest it seems like you are on the right track !
Well, bamaboy, your credibility went up a notch. You knew what George Dickel was and that you had to imbibe it to benefit from its medicinal characteristics. ;-)
Still, it's always feasible for someone to get on the air and proclaim this and that automotive "fact," based on the likelihood of things they're read on the Internet. It's a bet that Honda would introduce the variable timing engine rather than a brand new hybrid drive that would require a radical redesign of the platform. (I'd expect to see the hybrid in an Accord before it made it to the Ody.)
Ummm.... Let's see Will it have Power Sunroof 3-Zone Climate Control Split Third Row Seats
Yes!!! Honda DID NOT overload it with options! If the price stays low, I'll have the keys and title to my current Odyssey in a few years when it hits 100,000 miles and I'll buy one with leather, NAV and the sunroof.
You are on track ! Hey cartagram, the likelyhood about what I tell you is FACT. When you drive them 2 times a week for the last 3 weeks, you get to know what you are talking about !!!
I appreciate your positive response. I find it interesting that you did not deny 2 or more LCD screens- just no HEADREST screens! I vaguely recall reading about some statement from a Honda official about a year ago that hinted at the expanded personal entertainment options that will be available on the new Ody- including more choices for each individual. I am kinda surprised that Honda won't offer 17" wheels on the new Ody- they already offer them on the MDX and other products.
Hi again Bamaboy- can you find out if the new Ody will be shown at the April '04 NY Autro Show ? Can you direct us to any websites that may have any spyshots?
Please tell me that the new Odyssey will not be any wider than the current model. I am in my second week of a three year lease on 2004 Odyssey, and my wife already scratched the side mirror getting into garage. I am so glad that I didn’t get the Sienna, because it is two inches wider.

Are you serious or just having some fun?
But if you are serious, did you say no woodtrim on the interior at all?
Man, I just hope Toyota adds a nice chrome grill to the next Sienna because if the new Ody looks anything like the Quest, it is doomed even before release.
Now, if we can only get him to tell us if it will have folding middle row seats...
Ugly Quest + Good Looking Sienna = Uh Oh!!
Quest is weird and ugly and fuse it with a better looking Sienna and get an Odyssey? I'm ready to get into a bomb shelter.
Getting a chrome grill will be easy if there's an aftermarket modification you can buy.

i don't like the fact that the Ody doesn't have a few of the options that the other van have.
Do you know for sure if the next gen Ody will have on board computer with compass & in/out temp?
Will it have power 8-way mem seats?
4-way Power pass seats?
I'm considering a Quest SE with dual DVD if Honda will not add these.
