The Honda Element has seating which can layout to form two bed-like platforms for camping, will the 05 Odyssey have this feature?
  • turboturbo Member Posts: 27
The Sienna offers seating for 8 but only on its lower end models. Will the '05 have an eight seat option? On all models? Will the middle seat be removable to get back to a 7 seat configuration at will?
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
#692 - I don't know the new Caravan is a pick up truck. And which pick up truck has seat for 7? Don't think this is a crazy question. At least I am not asking for a turbo engine. Honda seems OK on production for the '05 model. And it is about 5 to 6 hundred Odysseys per day like now. Was it only 50000+ units build during the '99 model year?

#696 - Maybe it is the union thing.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
The Canadian Honda plant is non-union in fairly friendly union political environment. I am sure the Alabama Honda plant is non-union in a "Right to Work" state.

I think the 185,000 Odys is a good bet for 2005 full production run.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Alabama is a non-union facility IIRC. 150,000 output ahows the usual Honda conservative attitude. Also, you just don't pull more capacity out of thin air. Addtional production lines need to be bought and installed. Additional staff needs to be hired and trained. Suppliers have to expand for increased production.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
so stay conservative, and if the product is suddenly hot, then expand for next year.

    Hello Bamaboy...

Will the mirrors in the new Odyssey come to life? Heated mirrors; Auto dim mirrors (inside & outside, found on Chrysler minivans & Sienna); and (I'm afraid to ask...) reverse tilt down mirrors (found in the Quest); Signal mirrors (Freestar & Monterey), or anything else?

BTW, Host: why isn't this discussion board included in the "Future vehicles" category?

Has anyone heard if the 05 Honda Ody will offer a power glass Sunroof. I traded a 99 Toyota van with sunroof for a new 02 Ody EX-L. Plan to trade for a 05 van. Sure would like another sunroof down here in Florida.

  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I thinnk bamaboy can answer that question for all of us.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I asked the same question before. I don't remember he answered that directly. And I don't think Honda will offer those mirrors on new Odyssey. Toyota is having these all years. Is MDX (with touring package) the only Honda vehicle with reverse tilt down mirror?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 52,946
I hate those mirrors, and wouldn't buy a car with them unless you sould turn them off (which you can do on the new TL).

Now, a moonroof is important. If they offer one, especially without having to get every option (like DVD or Nav), this could be the wifes next car.

Toyota does offer the roof on the Sienna LE, but they don't seem to actually make them (at least for the NE).

  • lena132lena132 Member Posts: 56
I don't think the LE's offer Moonroof. Only XLE's have it optional and XLE LTD have standard.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
it could be a stand-alone option, say, $500.

694 - 1. No set mileage that I know of yet. 2. August. 3. Yes . 4. Do not have definite , but I am told by HIGH UPPER MGMT, that it will not cost as much as Sienna & Quest.

696 - produuction should increase to 169,000 by 2006 model

698 - Not to my knowledge. See the picture that is on the previous page if you would like a good idea !!

699 -- What line 2 produces ( Odysseys or Pilots ) strictly is by demand. NEW FEATURES ARE ON THE 2005 PILOT TOO !!

700 - No, that is an Element exclusive

701 - It will have it on the lower models too. You can purchase the seat for the higher models @ the dealer. It is also removable.

702 - 670 units built a day now . Alabama Honda plant is non-union in a "Right to Work" state.

    704 - Right on brother !

705 - That will happen IF the Odyssey is selling more than the 2005 Pilot

706 - Heated - yes. ONLY ON SOME MODELS . Auto dim inside only. Reverse mirrors ??? Whats that ? No turn signals on the mirrors.

707 - If you do not watch out it may rain in the top of your van !

You're like Santaclause to us, when you come by you always have info about the 05 Odyssey!! Just like when Santa comes by he always brings presents!! LOL. How many different types and sizes of Wheels will be available on the 2005 Odyssey? Will Honda still offer the Full Wheel Covers?, What Size?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 52,946
Sienna offers it in one of their 15+ phantom packages for the LE. They just don't seem to produce it for soem regions (if nay). But, they exist in the brochure.

Would be interesting to see Honda offer it as an option, since they never offer options, just trim lines. For example, the EX Civic and Accord have moonroof standard, but it's unavailable in the LX models.

I don't beleive Honda would put one on all EXs, so maybe there will be a new model, or it will come packaged with leather or something.

We are moving in the posts from the "Redesigning Odyssey?" discussion (23 posts). The posts will simply be tacked on here and will not follow the date/sort, so excuse the slight burp in the flow of the discussion.

    Thanks!

I just called one of the local Honda dealers. This sales guy had absolutely no idea about a Limited Edition EX RES Odyssey.
  • spartanmannspartanmann Member Posts: 197
Dealers are usually the last to get anything official. The factory wants them to sell remaining inventory, not tell customers to wait for the new model.

DC dealers had absolutely no info on the 2005 vans, even after production had switched over.

Ford dealers were given no pricing info on the Freestar almost until the first deliveries, despite the fact that Windstar production had ceased many months before.

716 - Yes it will be packaged

742 - There are exactly 4700 to be built. The first shipment is to arrive to dealers by Saturday

what size would the wheels be? 16 inches? 17? 18? 20?
  • gatorbandgatorband Member Posts: 12
Yesterday, while picking up my new '04 Odyssey EX, I asked the saleswoman at the dealership why most (at least 90%) of the Odyssey stock in this area (NE Fla.) was equipped with Leather? She said that she didn't know why, but had been told that the Honda plant where they're built had recently run out of leather completely for new vehicles and they were not expecting to receive any more units with leather. She further stated that Honda will be offering to that buyers unable to get a leather equipped unit, for the rest of the model year, as a compromise, their choice of cloth EXs with either a RES or Navi system and a several hundred dollar credit. Do you know if this is true or is she just hearing/promulgating rumors?

    Thanks.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
Thats really funny!! A Car company running out of leather?? Honda doesnt even build every single one of their vehicles with leather. Mercedes-Benz and BMW build 95% of their vehicles with leather and do they ever run out of leather?? NO!! So how can Honda run out of leather?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
it's just a ploy to get you to buy one of the leather models now while they say that you can still get one instead of waiting until August to pick one up cheap.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
or Honda has run out of their contract with the seat supplier and rather than resign for another 30,000 seats, as it is probably a high minimum order quantity, they will let the contract lapse and make due until the 2005s are ready. Could be accurate.

If Pilot/MDX is based on Ody how come most trans problems are associated with Odys? Is there a difference in the drive trains? Does Honda have a problem with auto trans axiels for V6 engines? Acura V6 TL, Accord V6, and Ody? (all three have extensive autotrans problems) Does it have to do with 2 vs. 4wheel drive? Can I buy an 04 or 05 Ody and not worry about the auto trans before 100,000 miles? Thanks for you previous answer about the Element seating.

There was another discussion in Future Vehicles concerning the Odyssey future model. As it was not as popular as this one, its posts were moved here. Unfortunately when we do this, the posts from the merged topic appear at the end of the discussion. If you scroll back a page or so, you will see Sylvia/Staff announcing the merge.

    Sorry for any confusion!
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
Indy - Good questions. Seems like Honda has designed the tranny with a different mechanism than is traditionally found in auto trans-axles. This different path might be causing the issues as this seems to be the Achilles heel for Honda. It would be great to get some insight from Bamaboy.
  • dako_tiandako_tian Member Posts: 298
(assuming he is for real) whether bamaboy is secretly-authorized unauthorized leaker-of-info or truly sharing "secret" info for his own reasons, he will not discuss questions about possible faults. In the first case, his bosses would control just what he is allowed to leak, and in the second case he would realize that his indiscretion will be looked upon as much more severe if he discusses faults instead of just new model design features. But then who knows why he is sharing at all. Maybe the thrill of feeling so important will overcome his self-preservation instincts?
  • cartagramcartagram Member Posts: 115
dako_tian: Bamaboy might be a Honda plant from the Honda plant. Or a Toyota plant. Or just as he says...someone who works in the plant and is privy to the new vehicle.

If he's the real deal, then his positives might simply reflect his enthusiasm for both the vehicle and for his employer. Some poeple won't talk down a product with which they're associated. Others will, when they have an axe to grind or feel betrayed or unappreciated at work.

Come August (but hopefully sooner) we'll see if bamaboy is the real deal.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I hope he is. From what I've heard, the new Odyssey will be another great van.
  • neighborneighbor Member Posts: 10
yesterday. He has not seen the van put together, only in parts. He said they will not be made until August. He also mentioned something about a new engine. Running on 3 cylinders when in the city. Gas saver. May only be an option not all models.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
is VCM. Bamaboy talked about it earlier.

    746 - 16"

747 - Whoever she is is full of $#!- . 250 Leather units came off Friday alone!!

750 - No, the same manufacturer is making them for the 2005 model

751 - No problems left the Alabama plant with the transmission. There was a major problem with the Canadian buit units. They actually were notified by us after we caught the problem, thhus that is why many models have a 100,000 mile extended transmission warranty .

755 - I am doing this on my own. Here is a little tidbit for you !! In the EXL-XX model, there is a 110 outlet where the DVD video plug-ins are in the left side sideliner !!!!!!!!
SO X-BOX AWAY IN THE CAR !!
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
What was the tranny problem? Design fault? Canucks cross threading bolts?
  • markhootmarkhoot Member Posts: 23
I will be in the market for a new van in the fall. I was originally thinking of the Honda, but I found I fit in the driver's seat better in the new Sienna, plus I was nervous about the transmission problems I have read about here.

Did the trans problem get fixed in the 03 and 04 models? What month will the new model be out?

    Thanks in advance.

    Mark
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
According to 'bamaboy, the tranny issue is fixed with the 2004s. The new Ody hits dealers in August.
  • bamaboy35004bamaboy35004 Member Posts: 25
Transmissions actually are built in Japan. Canada did not detect the defect. Alabama caught the problem in the quality department. No probs on 2004 models
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
I think I am pretty convinced you are the real deal. I'm in for the ride. Keep those infos coming. So there's an EXL-XX model? Is that the top of the line? Or is there an EXL-XX-Navi-DVD-RES Model or how do they call it?
If Honda can put the DVD player in the front dash (like they do now) plus have the Navi in the same van, it will definitely beat the Sienna's Ceiling-mounted DVD player. It 's a lot more convenient to control the DVD player when it's right in front of you. Similar to how the Acura MDX has both the DVD player in the front dash and NAVI screen too.
Another thing I just know won't happen, but I wish I could, is the GWVR being above 6000 lbs to qualify for business tax deduction. I guess only SUVs have this benefit.
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
bamaboy35004 - maybe I missed the post or maybe there was no specifics to the post.

can you shed light on the QA issue with the transmissions which were corrected in the '04 model that you are referring to?

and if that's possible, were any late model '03s built without the problem, and how does one tell?
    thanks.

Like many people here I'm looking at a Sienna or waiting for the new Odyssey. One of my requirements is AWD. Does anyone know if the Odyssey will have it?

I also would like a moon roof - one for the back, or something like the Quest's would be great.

I'm assuming that a split 3rd row seat is a given on the new Odyssey.

    Any info?
    Thank you
  • carguy1234carguy1234 Member Posts: 233
So Alabama can find a major tranny issue, and not notify the other production site? Are you sure this is Honda? Sounds like Ford/GM production. No wonder Honda is dropping in overall quality.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
the odyssey will not have AWD as bamaboy said in an earlier post, but it will have VSA.
  • lena132lena132 Member Posts: 56
What do you mean by having the DVD player and the Navigation System in the front? I looked at the MDX and their DVD Player is on the ceiling and the Navigation is on the dash. Do you mean that you can play DVD's on the Navigation while the car is parked?
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
    yes
  • bamaboy35004bamaboy35004 Member Posts: 25
764 - The current & new model has DVD in the ceiling. Only the Navi is in the dash. It is ILLEGAL for manufacturers to put a DVD in the dash. Against the law to be watching TV or DVD while driving in Alabama and many other places !!

765 - All 2004 models are OK and all units built after I think Feb 2003 are ok too. Check the certification label inside the drivers door on the pillar to get the month & year of manufacture.

766 - NO AWD !! If that is what you want for the same features on the Sienna it will cost 3,000-4,000 dollars more than the 2005 Odyssey.
Quest is GARBAGE !!! I checked one out on the lot and you have to actually pull the sliding doors in addition to pulling the handle out to get them to close. Also remember that the moore sunroofs that you have , the more opportunity for water to leak in. Yes on the 3rd item.

767 - other locations were notified but they got the transmissions before we did. They also had shipped a lot of them before the situation was under control.

DVD's WILL NOT play on current model Navi. I have tried !!
  • elaineelaine Member Posts: 17
    Thanks jchan2 & bamaboy.

No, Bamaboy, I'm NOT getting a Quest, I just think their skyview is cool. But, that is a good point about water leakage. I hadn't thought of that.

I am a soccer mom and really know nothing about the mechanics of a car. If I'm taking the kids skiing, will VSA help me as much as AWD with bad road conditions? Are they comparable at all?

Thanks for your help. I am chomping at the bit to get rid of my '98 Durango.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
The navigation systems in the redesigned ES 300, the GS sedans and RX 300 feature touch-screen technology. In the LX 470 sport-utility vehicle, the display screen provides an in-car theater. When the transmission selector is in the "Park" position and the parking brake is set, passengers can view a DVD movie. When the selector is in the "Drive" position, passengers can listen to the sound but cannot view the video. Beginning in 2002, this system is standard equipment on the LX 470.

Umm..bamaboy. Looks like Lexus is making illegal vehicles..or..the Nav screen doubles as a DVD screen when in "Park". Seems safe enough to me.
