    Question: Why?
I have seen bumper stickers that read "Friends don't let friends drive Fords".
I never could understand why a person would own a vehicle of a different brand than the one of the dealership where the person works...especially if the person is an owner, sales manager, salesman, shop foreman, etc. It bothered me when the owner of a Chevrolet dealership drove a Cadillac or a Toyota dealer drove a Lexus. Isn't the brand he sells good enough?
However, if the person is a mechanic, dealerships are usually known for paying their mechanics much less than they are worth. A used Windstar is probably a better value than a new or used Odyssey if a person can perform their own maintenance and repairs.

No, not always. people are looking for jobs, and if they find a good one at, say, a Kia dealership, he should take it, right?

But then take a Kia minivan? especially that he knows how many people returning with complains?

My question would be: How can one trying to sell such a car? If you drive something different b/c you know your dealer's cars are junk, how can you convince another customer to buy it?

I am disappointed to see that the 2005 HO has less cargo room than the 2004. The specs I have seen show cargo room with all seats in place at 38.4cu feet which is slightly higher than before (38.1) however, with the split 60/40 seating you lose the room available under the current 3rd row bench seat (Perfect for beach boards). The Sienna and Quest both offer over 43cu feet of space.

Yes, but I hope you realize that you do get 3~4 inches of more space(knee room) at the 3rd row with '05 Odyssey than '04 model. I am not sure that you could adjust the 3rd seat back-n-forth, though. Guess not.

Yes I realize the extra leg room exists and is important for some buyers, however with only children sitting in the back all 8 & under the additional leg room is relatively unimportant for me. Cargo room ranks much higher with me.

I am sure Honda did their market studies before committing to the allocation of the additional interior space.

Sept. 22nd is around the corner so I can take a look at the pricing relative to standard equipment to see if their is something to get excited about.

Off topic but I loved the comment from Simon Sproule a Nissan Motor company spokesman "The U.S. consumer is quite hooked on the incentive thing" his comments were in relation to the pro-longed price wars in the U.S. auto market (Wall Street Journal Sept. 3rd money & Investing section). I found it amusing because competition is what the U.S. economy has always been based on and American consumers have been "hooked on" market place competition for over 2 centuries. Wow now that's a BGO (Blind glimpse of the obvious).

Anyone seen the Olive Interior? Is it in the gray tint or more in the camel or tan family? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I will try to catch it. It will be interesting to see it on television instead of stills.

Anyone (hello, salespeople) know if there is any actual consumer materials available at dealers? I'm sure there is plenty of dealer internal sales kit stuff, but is there anything to hand out to interested potential buyers, or do you have to wait until 9/22 for that also?

As the 2005 is now a reality and no longer a "future model", a new discussion has been created for it in Vans. Please go to Honda Odyssey 2005+ to continue your discussion.

    Thanks for your cooperation!

Honda's press materials state: "EX with Leather models can be equipped with the Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System (RES) or with RES and Honda's Satellite-Linked Navigation System. Touring models are available with DVD Rear Entertainment System and Navigation System."

So it looks like an EX-L with RES AND NAV is not a model option. After all, Honda has to keep the Touring model differentiated enough to ask for the several extra thousands above an EX-L.
  • montreidmontreid Member Posts: 127
If that's true still, do what I did (if you don't want the touring).

Pioneer AVIC-N1. Great nav system and DVD player combination. Just add your favorite rear system (I chose Vizualogic headrests that replaced the current Odyssey headrests) and you're all set.

    Total spent with installation: $3000.

"EX with Leather models can be equipped with the Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System (RES) or with RES and Honda's Satellite-Linked Navigation System"

That means RES+NAV on EX-L, doesn't it? Sounds like just NAV isn't an option. You can get RES or RES+NAV.

My 2000 Odyssey uses 215/65TR16 tires but don't believe the Falken ZE-512 comes in that size.
Can I get away with a different size?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
    225/60 R16 should work.

    Use this calculator to compare:

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,496
just be careful with load ratings. IIRC, sometimes the lower profile tires, while they will have the same overall diameter, will have a lower load rating. On a heavy vehicle that is subject to getting all loaded up, this is important.

  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
True on the load rating. IIRC, my 00 Odyssey has a 96 rating. Since the 01-04 used the 225/60-P16 size, there should be plenty of 96 rating tires available.

excuse me for not digging through all the posts for my answer, but can someone tell me if AWD is in the cards for the Oddysey?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
highly unlikely, I think, since Honda already has the Pilot for people seeking AWD.

Is anyone aware of any modications being made to the 2006 Honda Odyssey, especially the EX-L and touring models? Also, any idea as to when they will be released?
  • dsrtrat2dsrtrat2 Member Posts: 223
Good question. I'd like to know if I could get the NAV in the EX-L w/o the RES as all my kiddies are gone. Do you suppose they will put the VCM engine in the EX. I don't really like leather in the HOT desert. It's time to crank up this thread again, as won't be too long before the '06s will here.
  • bobn04bobn04 Member Posts: 6
Any chance anything will be done to improve the millage of the 2006?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I would really like the NAV without leather or RES and save a few $$$$ in the process because I don't need leather or RES.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
I would like the RES without leather and the sunroof. Chevy has RES standard in every minivan.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I want the sunroof though. No leather, no RES but I want VCM, Sunroof and NAV.
  • dsrtrat2dsrtrat2 Member Posts: 223
There must be someone out there who knows something about the 2006. It's time to start teasing us.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
The 2006 models wont have much changed as far as styling goes inside and out. 2005 is the first year of the 3rd generation Odyssey and Honda is not going to give the Odyssey a facelift yet. Usually facelifts are on the 3rd or 4th year so maybe by 2008 or 2009 expect a facelifted Odyssey. Now facelifts consist of new wheels/rims, head and tail lamps touches, bumper changes, grille changes, standard/optional features also get worked on. For 2006 im sure Honda will fix some quality issues they have had, and maybe do a little something with the standard features on some of the models (LX, EX, EX-L, Touring). Some of the things that people think should be on the Odyssey are the power front passager seat at least on Touring, Power Liftgate on EX-L, Optional PAX tires on Touring, HID's at least on Touing, telescoping steering wheel, leather wrapped steering wheel on EX-L, and the Plus One Seat (8th seat) on Touring and let people have the Navigation System without the Rear Entertainment System and vice versa; that is as far i've heard so hopefully Honda will make these come true. Oh and by the way Honda better put a coinholder on the 2006 Odyssey because the 2005 does not have one.
  • sma3sma3 Member Posts: 28
If Honda is listening, 3rd Row windows that open outward is a feature that I and many others seem to be hoping for in 2006. It is a factor (along with rectifying some quality issues in 1st year) that has caused me to wait for the 2006's.
  • dermitdermit Member Posts: 2
Can anyone tell me when the 06 Odyssey is expected? I am considering the 05 but might consider waiting depending on when Honda is expected to release the new model.
  • attilauyattilauy Member Posts: 32
I may also wait for 2006, depends on when it will come.

    I want the following.....

present in all models or at least optional :
    1. Xenon
    2. tire pressure monitor
    3. auto dimming rearview mirror
    4. cd changer with mp3 capability

    good to have....
    1. hybrid

delete or make it optional.....FAX tire
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
According to HondaPreview.com the 2006 Odyssey will start production in August, and there will be minor package changes but nothing major for the 2006 model. There have been some rumors about an IMA system (Hybrid) but there is not enough information to actually support this.

Here is what is on their site:
There will most likely be some small package changes but nothing major for 06. There have been some rumors about an IMA system however there is no information to support this. The first month of 2006 production will be in August.

I mean delete or make the PAX TIRE optional ( just a typo, sorry).
  • davidk_528davidk_528 Member Posts: 1
If Honda is listening, I would really like to see the following in the 2006 EX-L model, in no particular order of importance:

    1. Add telescoping feature to Tilting Steering Wheel
    2. Add memory to driver's seat with 8-Way Power Adjustment (like on the Touring Model)
    3. Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shift Knob (like on the Touring Model -- charge a little more if you have to, but if the customer is buying the leather interior, this should be part of it.)
    4. Xenon headlights option (high and low beam)
    5. Auto-dimming rear view mirror
    6. Tire pressure monitor
  • nowakj66nowakj66 Member Posts: 709
    Amen to the telescoping wheel.

I also think the parking brake placement could be redesigned so it does not intrude into the area reserved for your left foot.
  • nwngnwng Member Posts: 663
    the friggin coin holders

and I hope they put american size cupholders in the front folding tray and the pull outs. I believe the size we have right now is japan/europe spec, you cannot fit anything except soda can size drinks in the folding tray, and the drinks will tip in the pull out holders if you put anything other than a small size mickey d soft drink in it. I know other countries have soft drinks half our size and there will be no problem securing theirs, but we are the land of the supersize and honda should recognize that, Someone should ship honda's engineers a double gulp from 7-11.

paper cone quality speakers in a $26k car is really a no-no.

bring back the big [non-permissible content removed] armrest for the front as an accessory

extra grab handle at the sliders (like the quest and mpv) as an accessory

offer a bare bone nav (I think that will be the trend)
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
NAV with a sunroof and cloth seats, although I'll take leather if I have to.

I'd like those Power Pedals, Reverse Sensing System, and Power Liftgate too.

But if they don't change anything, I still might buy one. The 2006 Kia Sedona is a strong contender on my list, if I can get NAV.
  • dsrtrat2dsrtrat2 Member Posts: 223
from the Honda plant to poke their heads up and start giving us some morsels. I'd like the VCM in the cloth EX if you don't mind.
  • tlongtlong Member Posts: 5,194
My wife is petite and needs the electric pedals, but we WILL NOT TAKE PAX TIRES. If they were really going to get serious about PAX I'd want to see them on the accord, on the higher end Civics. As for now they are only a specialty item that is sold on about 10% of Honda Odyssey's. I'm not going to pay $2K more for these things and then pay a fortune every time we need to get tires. As you can see below, we put a lot of miles on our cars.

Because of this, we had waited for over a year for the 2005 Ody but held off buying one while putting another 12K miles on our 1994 Villager with 185,000 miles. We need to get a new vehicle shortly, we are also considering buying a used pre-2005 Ody and then buying a new Acura RDX when they come out next year. Honda is going to lose an Ody sale if they don't address the tire issues or put the electric pedals on the EX-L.

Like several other POSTS, we too want an EX-L with NAV but not RES. They should also make the 115V outlet standard on the EX series (like Toyota does) and add at least one more. I'm trying to buy an '05 EX-L now but am having trouble finding one w/o RES so I may wait for the '06. I slightly considered a Touring, but when I read about the PAX tires I said no way. Who wants to wait up to 12 hrs for a tire fix, assuming you can find a dealer with the ability to change them. Why can't they offer the power-lift tailgate as an option in the EX or EX-L? Why should you have to buy a Touring to get this? It doesn't make sense. I'd pay for this option but I won't buy a Touring just to get it. It's costing them money not to offer it. I'd trade the power sliding doors any day for a power-lift tail gate.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
    I'd like NAV without RES.

I'll take it with RES if I have to, but I'd like to save some $$$.

I'd like that Power Liftgate, Power Pedals, Reverse Sensing System, and Memory Seats on the EX please.

Hey man I know what you mean! My 1998 Accord has the coin holder and for the 7 years I had the car I never really thought of how nice it was to have one. Now everytime I need to put lose change somewhere in the Accord I apreciate having one. My 2005 Odyssey doesnt have one and now I realize how much use it is. I have to carry the lose change in the plastic cup holders on the fold away table which annoys me seing how the lose change slides everywhere  I have gotten so agravated by that so many times its not even funny. And its not like they dont have room for it, I mean look at all of the other storage compartments and the coin holders also dont have to be big... :confuse: and I still think there is enough room to squeeze a little storage for the lose change on the left right near your knee!
  • ody05ownerody05owner Member Posts: 1
I have a 2005 Odyssey, and I agree that the lack of coin holder is annoying, so I would suggest you go to the auto section at Walmart or Target, spend $2 on a round coin holder that fits perfectly in one of the four cup holders in the center tray, and you will have a coin holder that works just fine and is flexible for your future coin storage needs.
  • 05ody05ody Member Posts: 103
Well I guess thats a good idea. For what we have to work with though it still wont be as convienent as a built-in coin holder but it will have to do. All I know is that I need one very soon because im starting to lose it!
  • attilauyattilauy Member Posts: 32

I am not sure about the others, but I find it very convenient using the large compartment below the radio (which is just above the retractable drink holder) for all my coins. It is large and may hold up to $50 worth of loose coins. It is safer than my other cars' coin holders because I can close it. During accidents, suden accelerations and decelerations, the loose coins in most cars may serve as small missiles or fragmentations grenade. Here, no matter what happen in your car, the coins are safely stored.

I also have enough room for other things in the front, one for sunglasses (center roof), two in driver side door, two in passenger door, one huge glove box, one map/triptik compartment and four cup holders ( two retractable and two in between driver and pasenger). I have all the space I need and no potential "small missiles" to worry about.
  • 05ody05ody Member Posts: 103
Yeah but With the 1998 Accord it is kinda alittle pull out tray and also has something like a "mini carpet" so nothing flied around. " am not sure about the others, but I find it very convenient using the large compartment below the radio (which is just above the retractable drink holder) for all my coins. Haha I do use the sunglass holders for my sunglasses too :P as wel as I do on the Accord. I am happy with the other convienent storage compertments though. It took me quite a while to find them all! :D

The lazy susan is not removed...the removable seat can be stowed within the lazy susan...visit a dealer and you will see that the underfloor storage area has dividers that include a place for the seat. Hope I could help, despite the late reply! :shades:
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
I'd like that Power Liftgate, Power Pedals, Reverse Sensing System, and Memory Seats on the EX please.

Then you would practically have a touring, would'nt you?

I want all that minus PAX.
