I saw an ad in last Sunday's paper for a SF Bay Area dealership offering 2004 TSX "executive loaners" for $20,888. I'm assuming the cars were used by folks bringing their cars in for service, and since the TSX has only been out for a year they can't have many miles on them. So $21k sounds like an incredible deal! But could I be missing something? I've seen other used TSX's going for $24k so what's the catch?

that 'executive loaner' might have many miles on it. i'm bias because i always like a new car to a used

I received an internet quote for $25,250 from Acura of Orange Park what should I counter offer? How low does anyone think they will go? Thanks!
  • stillookingstillooking Member Posts: 17
Funny to see your posting. I just put down a deposit to buy a car for $25K plus TT from there. I went with the much appreciated recommendations that several people at this forum suggested ($25K). They may go lower especially as the month closes to make their numbers. I was so stunned by the speed of the transaction I didn't think to negotiate lower.
  • glovesgloves Member Posts: 20
I bought a TSX from them for $25,141 plus tax and tags. The destination charge and their $395 administrative charge were included in the price.

    Good luck

I also contacted Duval Acura. The internet sales person from Duval Acura said they would beat any price given by their competitors so I offered them $24,000 just a little while ago, I know thats a low price but what can it hurt. I figured I would start out low and see where it went from there.
  • john6john6 Member Posts: 4
The local dealer quoted a price of $24,841 is that good or can they do better on the price? Just trying to get the best deal possible! They also said Orange Park Acura charges $499 in dealer fees does anyone know if this is true?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,814
If that $24,841 includes all fees with only TTL extra, I'd jump on it now... If you want the car. You can shop forever, but at some point the selection dries up.

I live in the Tampa area and just purchased my TSX from a local Acura dealer. I went to the Acura web page and put in my zip code and then sent out a bunch of internet emails to the various dealership in a 100 mile radius to see what kind of responses I would get. Needless to say I received a response from all but one dealer and I could not believe the price differences offered.
Anyway, it came down to 3 dealers in a 50 mile radius of my home, all were professional and had great prices based on what I have seen on this message board. The color we wanted was either white or red and of course these were hard to get let alone find one in stock. Of course the dealers that I was working with had almost every color except the ones we wanted so we kind of sat back and waited a couple of days. One day while we were doing the family outing thing we happen to pull into an Acura dealer here in the Tampa area just for fun and low and behold they were off loading a TSX in one of our colors (Pearl White) from the truck. So we stopped to take a quick peak not really wanting to buy at that moment but figured while we were there we would take a closer look. Anyway, after some small talk with the salesman, who was very professional, I threw out an offer just to see what would happen.
I told him I had a couple other internet quotes that were very good and if he could match or beat them he would have a deal today! As to my surprise, after some debate, I took delivery of my new TSX two days later! As I mentioned above it just came off the truck and had to be prep and all of that jazz. When we sat down to write the offer up the price I paid for this TSX was $24,689.00!!! Invoice on this is $24,691 (KBB)!
The only other additional thing was tax and tags!
We did not have to put a deposit down or anything and did not pay until the car was ready because I wanted to do a once over prior to giving up the funds. The day prior to taking delivery I called the 2 other dealers who were close in price and they flat out told me NO WAY! would they sell me a TSX for that price! So we must have been really lucky that day...but who cares....we took delivery and have been smiling ever since. If your in the Tampa area and what to know more and which dealers I was working with just let me know and I will be glad to help out! We consumers need to stick together!!! Sorry this was so long!

Congratulations, that is truly a good price.

Would you mind answering some questions I have?
    1. Was yours a 6MT or auto?
    2. Which dealer in Tampa did you purchase from?

Thanks in advance and enjoy your new TSX.

Hey nycgirl. I'm also looking to purchase one in the NYC area. Would you be able to share the name of the dealership? You may private message me. Thanks! It sounds like a good price to me if this includes destination. I also got something similar from a dealer in my area. I'm wondering if it could go a littler lower though.
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
I purchased the auto....and the dealership was Crown Acura in Clearwater. If you would like the name of the person I was dealing with there I can supply that also. My experience there was outstanding from the moment I stepped on the lot. The day I picked up my car I was in and out in about 30 minutes, that included going through the finance department to pay for the vehicle. And by the way, I do not get anything by telling my story, nor do I work for this dealership. My whole purpose for this message was to let other people know that deals can be made if you do your homework and stand firm on what you think is a fair price. I am sure someday soon down the line I will read about someone who got a better deal in this forum but if you walk out of the dealership with your new car and feel good about the price you paid that is all that matters right? Good luck!!!

    mldj98,
Sounds like a happy customer! Congrats! It is always helpful to know where people are having good buying experiences! Remember no salesman names thought! Congrats again!
  • stillookingstillooking Member Posts: 17
wow, when I talked to them on 7/19 they were talking $25.5k for what sounds like your car (white w 6spd MT). I told them I would look elsewhere.
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
    stilllooking,

The car we got was the auto non-navi pearl white version of the TSX.
But having the auto or the 6sp should not matter since they are both the same price. The day I went there with my family was a day when the new car sales manager was not there for whatever reason. The person who ok'd my deal was the used car sales manager. I was told by someone there on the day I picked up my vehicle that if the new car sales manager had been there I problaby would not have got such a good deal. My reply to that was simple, you can either sell me the car for that price or not. It is as simple as walking away and leaving the dealership. I have a close friend who works for a dealership in San Diego and he has told me much about the business. The #1 thing about car sales that they teach you is that when someone isn't happy with the price of the car and they walk off the lot there is about a 90% plus chance they won't come back. That is why some dealerships are so aggressive in not letting you walk away. Luxury line dealerships are not quite so bad with this, but that is the way it is. When they made the offer of $25.5 did you have any other offers from other dealerships? I did, and that is what really sealed the deal for me. If you live in the Orlando area...good luck....of the many bids I received they were by far one of the highest...I did not even give them another thought. Try Scanlon Acura of Fort Myers or Gettel Acura of Sarasota. Both gave me excellent prices, Scanlon has no dealer fees!!!! If your willing to go a little out of your way to get your TSX it can save you much $$$$$. If you go on the lot at the end of the month and they have the car that you want, and you show them that you are dead serious about buying (maybe cash in hand, via check or whatever) I bet you can get the deal you want period!
    Good luck!

5/31, 6M Navi bought from Radley Acura of Virginia at invoice + 250. Financed through AHFC @4.3% for a payment of $516/60 months/no down.

Good experience, good folks. They run occassionaly internet specials, an in this case, it was a memorial day weekend promise to sell what was on the lot at invoice.

Radley and Pohanka are apparently two of the largest dealerships, and they go back and forth sometimes, competing to be largest in the DC area.

I have never bought a car before so I don't really know what to ask for. I want to e-mail dealers within a 200 mile radius because there is only one Acura dealer in my area (Oklahoma). When I e-mail these dealers do I want to ask for a quote that includes T&T and any dealership fees? What else should I include so that they give me an out the door price. And what if I buy it out of state. How will that affect the T&T? Sorry I am very clueless about car buying. Please help!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,814
    1) If you have never bought a car before, find someone experienced and take them with you. All the internet research in the world is no substitute for experience.

    2) If you read back through this thread for the last month or so, you'll see that most people have been buying '04 TSX without navigation for between $25K-$25.5K. It is my opinion that anything in that range is a fair deal. The only additions to that cost should be tax, title and licensing fees.

    3) If there is only one local dealer, that would be the most convenient place to buy the car. I'd try to make a deal there first. You can always do the e-mailing, etc afterwards, if you can't make a deal there.

    4) Any offer you make should be inclusive of all fees except title and taxes. If you know how to calculate the sales tax for your state, you can make an all-inclusive offer, if you are comfortable with your calculations. I'd start them out with $24,700 plus tax and see what happens.. If they counter with anything under $25,500, then you might have a deal.

In summary, give your local dealer a chance first, and take someone experienced with you. I've probably bought ten or more new cars, and I still have to be on my toes. This is a really large purchase, and you can pay thousands more than necessary if you aren't vigilant.

I live in Tampa as well and sent out requests for quotes for the auto TSX. All of the quotes I've gotten back for area dealers have been MSRP ! I want a carbon gray pearl w/ quartz interior. I don't know if that is making it more difficult to find. Do the dealers charge extra for certain colors ? the KBB site has N/C for all the color options, so I'm assuming when they charge more for ceratin colors it's just more money in their pocket.

Also, I know that I can offer whatever price I want but do not want to ask for something that is ridiculously low. Is there some kind of guideline to follow ? like % under invoice or MSRP you can go ? Sorry for my ignorance ... trying to "get smart" before going to the dealer.

    TIA

I think I got a pretty good deal from Radley Acura in Bailey's Crossroads. I had a good salesman, very low pressure. At least, I think it was low pressure....first time ever buying car so I don't have much to compare it with.
Anyway, I paid $28,000 (plus taxes, tags, etc). I purchased a Nighthawk Black '04 TSX, w/ Navigation, and spoiler. He "threw in" wheel locks, free oil changes for life and free VA state inspections for life. All in all I felt good about the deal, I paid a fair amount under Edmund's TMV for a TSX w/ Navi, but I got the spoiler, and the oil changes, etc., with it, so it felt like a very good deal to me. I recommend my salesman, shoot me an email if you'd like his contact info.

John- I paid $24,900 for my TSX w/o NAV and after I committed, Orange Park countered with $500 lower than the deal I made! I was astounded. I believe you can negotiate a better deal and think that you can get this for $24,700 or even less if you act on the last day of the month. Good luck.
  • hokiebrianhokiebrian Member Posts: 2
Forgot to add that I got the all-weather mats as well, since I got the Parchment interior (looks pretty sweet with the black exterior). I didn't even ask for them, he just said "here you go." So like I said above, pretty good deal.

Does anyone have an experience in the Baltimore, Maryland area with what a TSX auto w/o navi is going for? I have two prices that are nowhere near as good as what I have seen on this forum.
  • bcpbcp Member Posts: 6
    RSF,

Is the price you paid for your TSX inclusive of TTL ? also, if you don't mind me asking ... did it include destination cost and/or color fee ? the dealers here (and I dont know if this is customary as I'm a first time buyer) include it on the MSRP. Is this something you can negotiate as well ? can you tell I'm green ?!

    Thanks.
  • bmore_guybmore_guy Member Posts: 4
The TMV is $26.2K for a non-navi but it seems like there are a lot of posts here that are around $25K. What gives?

I will likely get shot, but in my car-shopping experience over the last six months, I found that you can subtract approx. $1,000 off TMV! I don't have a study to back it up, just intuition from my shopping the Virginia market! Hope that helps!
  • bmore_guybmore_guy Member Posts: 4
I guess I am not doing that bad. I am getting about $700 under TMV.

hi ...could anyone recommend any good dealers in the NYC area for an acura tsx ? Having never bought a car before, I'm aiming to do most of it online and only the final at the showroom.Any advice would be welcome and appreciated.
    thanks.

These are the numbers I was given by a local dealer. Do you think this is a good deal for a 2004 non-nav, automatic TSX or should I look elsewhere as they are not budging?

$25,306 + TTL (no trade-in). Then they are tacking on a "prep fee" of $395 in addition. Where it started at $1195 under TMV, now it's $750. Can "prep fee" be negotiated off the bill or is this pretty much set in stone and non-negotiable ? To me this is just more profit to them. I would assume that it doesn't cost $395 to "prep" a NEW car. Also, what other fees am I bound to face before the car is a done deal (besides TTL) ? I'm financing through my credit union so hopefully that eliminates any other fees the dealer might want to add for financing.

    Thanks all.
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
The "prep fee" can most definitely be negotiated. It is nothing more than a dealers way of padding their profit. Prepping a car involves little more than pulling off the factory plastic covers.

If dealers are so thorough with their "prepping," why is it so many new car buyers are allowed to drive off the lot with over-inflated tires?

Refuse to pay the prep fee. If he wants to sell the car, he'll drop it. Beware of doc fees, too. Negotiated price of the car + TTL should be all you end up paying.

    Good luck.

    Johnny
  • bcpbcp Member Posts: 6
Thanks Johnny. That's what I thought. I did walk away and they called me back ~15 minutes later. They wanted me to come back in the next day to see if they could give me more on my trade-in (a trade-in was an option then), but never mentioned they would take the "prep fee" off. I know they just wanted me back in there to see if they could get away with it. I wasn't able to come back in, but called and left a message. I'm still waiting for them to call me back. They'll have a sale if they knock the prep fee off. Otherwise, I'll go elsewhere.

    kydfx:

Thanks for the concise list. I bought my Milano Red TSX Auto (No Nav) yesterday (7/31) from Nalley Acura in Marietta, a suburb of Atlanta, GA. I got it for $24,700+TTT. I bargained over the phone with two other dealers in town, but this was the best quote. I asked the Sales person to fax me the price agreed in writing before I walked into the dealership. Being the last day of the month, they seemed very eager to sell the car.

I expected to see a documentation fee as extra. When I saw $399, I said that was too steep and I am willing to walk if not reduced. Sales person said he can not reduce it, but will threw in the plastic lining for the trunk and the net (MSRP around $180) for free. I guess I could have bargained little more on this junk fees, but I knew it is already a good deal and was eager to take my car home.

Love the car!! Once again, thanks for the pointers.

    Regards,
    ARD

Congratulations on the new car! Even adding the $399 in, $25,100 is a great price.

Now, forget all about what you paid and the negotiations and just drive!! After all, that is the ultimate goal: The CAR, not the DEAL.

Just put a deposit down for a 2004 TSX Carbon Gray/Quartz w/ Navi for 27,550 plus 200 for oregon registration... it seems like that is a good price.. anyone confirm? 05's are coming and don't want to miss any big rebates
  • sudubetigerisudubetigeri Member Posts: 7
Yes I think you have a good price. 2 weeks ago I put my deposit down for a 2004 TSX Carbon Gray/Quartz w/Navi (surprise! It is the same!) for $28035 plus $421(TTL + doc fees) plus 6.5% (Minnesota tax). Couldn't get it further down, since all the three dealers in the Minneapolis area were complaining about the 6 speed manual shortage (6-8 weeks of wait!). Booked it under the dealer who was willing to procure it in 5 weeks.

I live in Baltimore area, and bought one two months ago for $25,200 (plus tax and tags), out the door price was $26,700 I believe for a non-navi auto. Probably can do even better than that now that it is even later in the model year. Make sure you e-mail the dealerships and negotiate through the Internet sales managers as opposed to walkin in and dealin with the guys on the floor. Also tend to get a better deal at month's end.

    ARD,

I am in metro atl as well and Nalley is one of the dealerships I am considering. So far the lowest quote they gave me was 25,897 for an Arctic Blue with no navi, fog lights, trunk tray, and threw in wheel locks and all weather mats. It sounds like they are still going high especially with that prep fee. Could you shoot me an email of who you are dealing with. I can wait till the end of the month if necessary but would like to go ahead and finish up if I can get the right price. The other question is around what kind of financing they offered. I can get 4.5 for 60 months but did not know if they go lower.

    Thanks in advance ARD!

Nevermind. :) Used some more bargaining power and got a much better deal from Nalley. Picking it up tomorrow.

I got the Arctic Blue with fog lights, wheel locks, trunk tray, cargo net, splash guards, etc. for 25,300. Th fog lights put it over 25 but that is what I wanted. Thanks to all for the info posted on this site.

I worked throught the Interent saleman to get his lowest price, then took that price to another dealer... 3 dealers later I was able to get a price I was happy with.. Good thing about Oregon is NO SALES TAX! Secured a 3.79 loan at virtualbank.com... acura had nothing under 5%

I called/e-mailed around originally looking for a non-NAV TSX. The most responsive dealers were the ones at Los Gatos, Concord, and Stevens Creek. Most other dealers would at best offer 25,600+ on a non-NAV and 27,500+ on a NAV-equipped vehicle. The three dealers I mentioned were all below this threshold and would bargain a bit, but it seems (anecdotally) that demand for TSX's is still fairly good as nobody felt they needed to discount greatly to sell their vehicles despite '05 models coming soon. I suppose one could drive a slightly better bargain right at the end of the model year, but you then run the risk on not having selection when it comes to color combination/trim. I ended up agreeing to purchase from Los Gatos Acura at 27,113 +TTL for a CG/Quartz/5AT/NAV. The internet manager there is extremely helpful, enjoyable to talk to, and very honest/direct about what she can do. No unnecessary games. I highly recommed Los Gatos Acura. I pick the car up today!

    BCP-

The price that I got the carbon gray/ebony non-NAV TSX was: $24,900 which I negotiated over the phone after e-mailing several other Florida dealers. The next best price I got was $25,200 so I said what the heck, I'll try $24,900 and the dealer accepted. Sarasota, where I live, couldn't touch the price I negotiated at Scanlon Acura of Fort Myers (Florida) because Scanlon has NO dealer fees. Sarasota wouldn't budge on their $500 dealer prep!

$24,700 was the base price and state taxes of 6% were added. Since I transferred the tag from my old car to the new one, the new tag was around $100 or so. There were no other charges -- color, interior, dealer fees etc. I did pay $125 (dealer cost) to have the windows tinted and it looks sweet! I forget the exact OTD price but it was in the neighborhood of $26,600. I did pay cash for the car so there was no loan to deal with.

I would highly recommend Scanlon Acura. Just give them a call, start the negotiations low -- I would recommend $24,700 and see what happens. If you get a deal below 25K before TTL you done good.

    Good luck.
  • rsfrsf Member Posts: 15
The dealer holdback is 3% of the MSRP which comes to about $800 for the dealer on every Acura they sell. So anything above invoice is gravy to the dealership. The dealer prep is just adding to the $800 for every car they sell. So if you get it at $200 above invoice-- they're STILL making $1000 on you!

You can use this information in negotiating your price as it may help lower your cost.

Yesterday I bought silver 2004 TSX non-navig form “McGrath Acura, Morton Grove, IL” (NW Chicago suburb)
    and paid $25,900 +tax $1,662; doc $53, license & title-state fee $143, loan APR 5.49%.
    Asking price was $27,408 (MSR 26,490 + destination $545 + splash guards, all-season mats, wheel locks $373).
I believe it is not a bad deal for Chicago area. I also have 2002 Acura TL and TSX is for my wife: I worried about 4 cyl. engine to be weak but the car drives nicely and there is more than enough power.

Bought my 6 spd red, no nav from Acura Orange Park (Jacksonville, FL) for $24,800 (plus TT) with wheel locks, splash guards and matts. Used email blast asking for $25k as suggested earlier in this forum. I got Orange Park to lower because Duval Acura, which is only about 9 mi away was willing to go about $650 less. Orange Pk was easy going, helped take care of my 2 yr old daughter, and pulled no last minute gimmicks. They even help me plan my trip to St. Augustine.

    Good deal, good experience.

Did the $24,800 include destination charge and their administrative charge printed on the bill of sale (around $395)?
