.00075 MF and 55% residual.

Audi dealers can mark up the rate by .00125 (!). But, they can't change the residual. 58% would be for 36/10, not 36/15.

Hi all!

First time poster here on Edmunds! I'm looking to lease a 2016 Q3. Went and test drove one today and fell in love. However, I have never leased a car. I was looking at one that is MSRP $39,015. It was 2WD with all the added packages I believe (tech, wood, power door). I'm not sure how the residual amounts along with MF play into the lease. Any help is appreciated.

Hi! I was looking at 12k a year for 36 months. Looking at a Premium Plus model with tech and power door. I got an estimated MSRP of $38,790 from one dealership and the other one was $39,015. I believe it had the wood trim.

The buy rate is the rate offered by Audi Financial Services. Dealer can mark it up for extra profit.

Politely but firmly inform the dealer that you won't sign a contact with an inflated MF. Then, start working with other Audi dealers - it only takes one to meet your demands.

So I'm working with a dealership and everything is all good. They're willing to give me a decent amount for my trade in and lowered down the cost of the car to about 35,950. However, he has a MF of 0.00076. How do I explain I know what the MF and residual amounts are? I'm plugging the information from here into Edmunds lease calculator and the payments he's telling me is completely different from the calculator. Help!

Sorry, missed that. Q3 FWD base MF is .00046 this month, so marked up a bit more than I thought. Still, politely but firmly inform the dealer that you won't sign a contract with an inflated MF.

What are folks seeing for acquisition fee (bank fee)? I was quoted 795 but in reading this thread, I have seen 595-995. Similar to MF, is this an item that the dealer has the flexibility to mark up? I've done about 10 leases over the years with Acura and Nissan and have never seen the dealers mark up either the MF or bank fee.

Audi acquisition fee is now $795. Dealer can mark it up; happens all the time with Mercedes. BMW increased the bank fee not long ago to $925 but forbids a markup from the dealer.

I've just started looking out for my first lease (looking at Q3, Q5, X1 and X3). Audi in CT quoted me an offer last weekend that I can't re-calculate on my own:
- The car (Q3 Premium Plus Quattro) has 3K miles on the odo for a 36/15K
- MSRP was 42,695
- Residual .55 / 22,939.10
(my re-calc MSRP with that is 41,707)
- Price 37,500
- Rate 0.00147 (looks like a rip-off from reading the topic thread)
- Cash 3,000
- Govt Fees 163 (higher than quoted by the DMV)
- Taxes 1,217.22 (not sure that that is, property taxes?)
- Doc Fee 499
- CT rate 6.35%
- Total First Payment 3,000

- Monthly Payment 496.75

Would the Doc fee be included in the cap cost?
What type of down-payment is it assumed/cost added to the price of 37,500? If I assume that the 499 is capitalized and I put 1,396 to match the 494.75 monthly payment, the initial payment jumps to 3,597 vs. 3,000...

.00075 and 56% - so yes, the MF is marked up. My guess is the residual is adjusted to account for the miles - usually they are deducted from the calculated residual at a rate of .15/mile, not an adjustment to the residual itself.

Up front costs include the doc fee, first payment and acquisition fee, along wit the DMV costs. Anything above that would be used as cap reduction - which we don't recommend, as the money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled.

Tax on a lease in CT is charged against the monthly payment, so I don't know what the $1200 represents - ask the dealer.

Using the base MF and residual in the calculations, I get a payment of $424/mo before tax.

Confirm the adjusted cap cost with the dealer, and make sure you understand everything that goes into that number.

The MSRP includes destination, as should any offer made or received.

Acquisition fee ($795) and DMV fees are your responsibility.

Net cap cost of $36,950 (no money down, just negotiating down from MSRP based on TrueCar suggestion)

Money factor of 0.00046
Total monthly payment (before tax) of $437

I'd add on $41 per month in sales tax (CA has 9.5%) for total monthly of $478.

Also, when negotiating with the dealer, do you recommend that I (1) ask him for the lowest monthly payment he is willing to give me, (2) tell him the monthly payment I am willing pay or (3) start with the negotiated purchase price for the car, and then work my way through the residual value and the money factor with him? If, based on my calculations above, I know the lease price I am willing to pay, why not just cut to the chase and tell the dealer "I am willing to pay $470 per month, which includes taxes, period. If you've done the math, and you know why you get the payment provided, then you can certainly negotiate that way.

But, let the dealer give you a payment first. Who knows what incentives might be on the vehicle that you don't know about? If the number comes in different than you expect, ask him to give you the numbers that support it.

Don't forget about the $795 acquisition fee, plus CA DMV fees.

Its a Quattro, i was only given MSRP OF $37,300.
