Ok just got numbers from the dealership for 2016 4-Door Autobahn with the LP, DAP, and PP w/DCC:

    36 Month/15k miles
    MSRP - $37,750
    Selling Price - $34,750
    Residual - 56%
    MF - 0.00130
Sales Tax (6.25% and Texas taxes the full selling price) and fees - $2,557

Monthly payment $461.94 (paying taxes up front).

Does this seem like a great deal? I feel like I could shave a little more off of the selling price.

$37K is an awfully expensive GTI. Reach a bit deeper into your pocket and you could get a Golf R.

True, but having deeper pockets assumes I have 2-3k more for a car that I can just save. Not to mention insurance increase, fuel economy, higher octane requirements, Haldex service, larger wheels and tires and the up front costs compared to the GTI.

Perhaps I can do without the DAP though. I really only wanted it for the adaptive cruise control.

Yeah, but the downside is that the MF on the R is .00201, compared to the .00130 on the GTI.

The tax issue in Texas is hurting your deal, too. But, nothing you can do about that.

The smart thing I can do is just put the tax down just so that doesn't get charged with the monthly interest. If I can get maybe and extra 1k off of the selling price and get a number close to invoice, I will probably pull the trigger tomorrow.

Ultimately, if you like it and are comfortable with the payment, that is what matters.

For me? I could not justify $4XX a month for a lease on a GTI.

Can't do anything about tax.. If you are going to lease in Texas, you have to live with it, or consider a purchase.

I get $450.71 on your deal, assuming the $34,750 is the CAP cost.

Really, that is one loaded up GTI. The lease price isn't terrible, considering the MSRP.
Even though the MSRPs are getting close to R territory, the discounts aren't as good, and in real dollar terms, it would be a lot more to lease a Golf R.

Sounds like a great car. No one complains about their GTI, once they get it. ;)

I'm going to go to the dealership today and will drop the DAP. I will see if I can get the cap cost to $32k and go from there.

Just to arm myself with some information before the heading to the dealership, I asked about pricing without the DAP and I got 35345 MSRP. 32345 without fees (getting that now). They are quoting me a 34035 invoice which I don't think is believable. Has everyone been getting the same invoice quote?

They gave me the lease cash and I got a cost cap of $32893 which with a MF of .00130 and 56% residual I get $426 monthly payment without tax based on the lease guide calculator. Does this seem legitimate? I asked for $750 extra and walked out, but I feel that is was a good deal. Just holding out for savings if any.

Hi folks, I just leased my first GTI and love it. I wanted to check to see how I did, and ask about a couple extra charges I noticed on the leasing agreement.

2016 4-Door Autobahn PP with LP, DAP, and DCC
    36mo/12k
    MSRP - $37,115
    Selling Price - $32,025
    Residual - 58%
    MF - 0.00130
This ended up being $3223 out the door (including $737 for the 3 year service plan) and $386/mo, which seems great to me. The leasing agreement includes a $499 Express Dent removal which I never asked for, but was "thrown in for free" and $196 Code Protect, which I have no idea what that is.

    So questions:
    - do folks suggest paying upfront for the service plan? I was told I paid 25% off and I can always request a refund for any of the service checkups I don't use
    - Is it normal for dealers to throw things like Express Dent and Code Protect so that their margins are reasonable, or did I get salesman'ed?
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,668
@brgl2016 - over $5K off MSRP is a great way to start things off! Nice job!

What does the $3,223 drive off include?

I see VW is offering 0% financing for 60 months plus $500 if you buy. Very hard to say no to "free" money vs. 3.12% (.0013) on a lease.

Generally, I don't like paying upfront for service, but the three year plan price seems reasonable.

What state and tax rate is this? On the surface, the lease cost seems good for a completely loaded GTI.

The $3223 included $16xx toward cap reduction, $737 for the service plan, first months payment at $386, taxes, Fred, and registration

State is CA, sales tax is 8.75%

I picked up the car on the 5th, so was using the June rates and incentives (there was a $1400 dealer incentive that I think was rolled into the $5k discount)

Overall, you did pretty well. I think you are correct about the "throw-ins" being salesman gimmicks. "Look at all the extras you get for free!". I'm sure that's a great car. Congrats!

    2016 4dr Auto SE w/ Lighting Package 36/12k

    MSRP: 28960
    CC: 26,118
    Resid: 58%
    MF: 00225 or 5.4%
    Tax: 7%

Sitting at $374 a month currently without doc, registration, lic fee's. Are those fee's dealer controlled? My local dmv is giving me lic/regis fee's waaay lower than what the dealer is quoting.. and I'm pretty sure the doc fee is standard across the board at $80?

Used truecar guarantee to get to 27.8 and negotiated down to 26.1 - good/bad? Thoughts?

MF is marked way up .. base is .00115 this month.

36/12 is 57%; 36/10 is 58% - I'd confirm which it is with the dealer.

Assuming 58% residual, I get $355/mo plus tax with the inflated MF; $308/mo with the base MF. Both before tax.

If this is CA, the doc fee is capped at $80. Not sure if the dealer can mark up the registration and license fees.

First payment, bank fee, dealer fee and DMV costs are usually due up front. PA adds 3% to the sales tax for a lease.

Lease tax in PA is an extra 3%, so your tax rate will be 9% on the monthly payment.

You can pay just the 1st payment, plus non-taxable government fees such as title/registration at lease signing. The acquisition fee can be rolled into the payment. So, $500-$600 at lease signing it not hard to do.

We can't give you lease information for next year, as the numbers change monthly.

Looking for Residual and MF numbers for 2016 VW GTI S 4-Door DSG with no other options in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA with MSRP: $27785 (Base + First Aid kit + Monster Mats). I am looking at both 3Y/36k miles and 2Y/24k miles. One dealer quoted MF of 0.0022 (can bring down to 0.00202 if good credit) and another one quoted 0.00299. I think these numbers are inflated. Lowest sales price I was quoted was
    $22185. Thanks

    Thank you kyfdx.
You are right. For sale price of 22185, they wont honor MF of 0.00115. Why do dealers differentiate a sale when its purchased vs. leased. As far as they are concerned, isn't it just a car sold? Basically, what I am asking is if there is a way to first negotiate the sale price and then make them stick to the manufacturer set MF numbers?

Sometimes, the incentives are different. For instance, if you finance a GTI, there is a $500 customer bonus, but if leasing, a $250 dealer incentive.

Also, the money factors are confidential information, between the dealer and finance. VCI allows the dealers to markup the money factor for extra profit. It isn't as though they advertise the money factor, but the dealers won't stick to it. They are all in it,together, unfortunately.

It's also good to shop different dealers & make a total cost spreadsheet. I don't ever advise paying a marked up money factor. At the end of the day, if the payment at dealer A is less which has a cheaper selling price & marked up money factor compared to the payment at dealer B who is charging a more expensive selling price & base money factor, then go with dealer A.

I'd tread cautiously as the dealer with the cheap selling price & marked up money factor might have an outrageous dealer doc fee, lots of unwanted accessories, a pin stripe, undercoating...

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the tip. I am shopping multiple dealers. Some are slower than others. With one of them I have exchanged 3 emails now and no price yet, cause it looks like he wants to talk on the phone first. Anyway, No one in SF Bay Area seems to be honoring VW set MF numbers. I'm trying to hit <$250/month+tax on a 2yr/24k or 3yr/36k lease
