So...the .001 money factor the salesperson threw at me?
So in negotiating a lease, the dealership can try to work out whatever cushion they'd like to, whether it be an inflated money factor or otherwise, but when it comes down to it, they should be able to "honor" the money factor you provided (the residual rate is certainly more transparent), and then the only real variable is the purchase price (cap cost).
Is that about right?
Is that money factor essentially what is offered by VW financial services?

As noted, there are two variables in a lease ... selling price and money factor.
Get the lowest price, just as if you were buying. Then, make sure you get the 'base' MF as offered by VW Finance. Dealer can mark up the MF for extra profit, just like they can mark up the interest rate on a loan.
Knowing all the numbers behind the deal makes it difficult, if not impossible, for the dealer to pad the deal in any way.
Just to close the loop - thanks so much @kyfdx and @michaell for the always great advice!
All that info makes it so much easier to evaluate a lease deal - I completed a deal on a 2016 Jetta 1.8T Sport this afternoon. 3 years/10k miles for $0 down and $166/month (plus tax).
For others shopping, I had one dealer practically scoff at my offer, and another one accept it the same day. Certainly pays to shop around.

Here's hoping that those deals are available later this year, when I'm in the market.
@breld , does that deal include the $1500 conquest cash as a cap cost reduction? And is it a true $0 drive off, where DMV fees and the like are built in to the payment?

Base MF on the 2016 Jetta is .00020, so your dealer is marking that up on you.
We don't track selling prices, though user @breld just leased a Jetta a week or so ago; read back through the last page or two of this discussion to see his deal details.

What is the net cap cost?
If I use $26,265 (selling price less $2000 rebate and $130 down), I get $266/mo with 6% tax included.
Can you please provide some figures? Is the residual and MF the same for all Jettas? Looking for 12/36 and 15/36 on a 2016 Jetta 1.8T Sport w/manual trans. Are there any current rebates for February? Are there any acquisition fees associated with a lease? Lastly is there such a thing as a Buyer's Option loan? Thank you!

.00020 and 55% for 36/15 on the 1.8T Sport. $1250 lease cash.
I have a 2014 Jetta SE w/ Connectivity lease that has about 6 months left on the contract. My dealership called me all week asking me to come in because VW had a program they would let you out of your lease as long as you leased or bought a new VW being told the program ended Monday. So I went in. I was dead set on a 2016 VW GLI SE 10k/36mo lease. Not educating myself before hand we settled on 350 a month and 1000 down (on my credit card) which I was told I had to put down a non-refundable deposit because they had to locate the car which could take a few weeks. They said they couldn't sell any they had on the lot because of a stop sale due to recall on the GLI's. I really don't know what games they are playing. After educating myself which I should have done beforehand I am really disappointed as I don't think I got a good deal as others are paying a lot less for their GLI SE leases at 10k/36mo. Since I didn't sign ANY leasing paperwork besides the $1000 down what are my options? Can I go back Monday and re-nogiate or am I screwed because they have my $1000?

Call on Monday and say you don't want to do the deal. If you didn't sign anything, you can dispute the charge on your credit card.
