MF is marked up - base MF is .00010 on the Tiguan this month.

Using your numbers, as-is, I get $383/mo with the marked up MF, $372 with the base rate.

I'd confirm the adjusted cap cost - I don't see an acquisition fee in your details, for example.

@jetpilot_mike Also, tax won't be $2000 on a lease. Ohio collects sales tax upfront on a lease, but it's only applied to the sum of payments (upfront payments + lease payments )

Should be closer to $1000-$1200

Base MSRP: $28700
Freight Delivery charge: $865
TOTAL MSRP: $29565

Certified Dealer MSRP discount: (-$2798)
VW safety in numbers customer bonus: (-$1000)
Total savings on MSRP: (-$3798)

*****Therefore final True car estimate: $25,765*****

So my questions are

Would the $2250 lease cash discount also be applied to $25,765 to bring it down further?
If i want a lease with $0 down my Net cap cost should be: [($25,765 - $2250) + taxes & fees)] ?

Can't tell you if the TrueCar quote is for a purchase or a lease; if it's a purchase, then the lease cash won't apply.

is there a tool on edmunds.com that i can use to generate a fair quote for a lease?
Once i have that i can then punch in the RV, MF and lease cash numbers on it to find out if i am getting a fair deal from the dealer.

Going to the dealer today evening and want to do all the homework so that i don't fall prey to their cons.

I agree with the variables and the calculation. Lease cash is $2250. Assuming another $1000 rebate in there, somewhere?

Tax on leases in NJ is applied against the sum of the payments and is collected up front - either you pay it at lease signing or you add it to the capitalized cost.

Subtract 1% from 10K residual for 12K.

Yes, that's how the lease cash ought to work. The dealer, however, is probably building the lease cash into any offer they make you.

I get the same payment, assuming the tax rate is 8%

Only way to improve on it is to put more down (which we do not recommend - that money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled), or negotiate a better selling price.

Purchase incentives and lease incentives are not compatible. Student incentives should stack with other lease incentives.

There is $1250 lease cash on that vehicle. Assuming the $1000 rebate is from a different program, you should certainly be able to negotiate a bigger discount than $1350.

Another $600-700 lower would be reasonable. That would lower the payment by $16-$19/mo.

Sales Price after incentives: 31,770
Trade in value: 5,000
Sales tax: 7.375
Monthly payment quoted by dealer and accepted: $289

Forgot to ask MF and RV and that was my bad. I can probably find out tomorrow but I never leased before and I know its after the fact but want to check on whether what I got was at least reasonable...thanks.

$289/mo. is $269/mo, pre-tax.

To get to that payment, the adjusted CAP cost would have to be about $28,650.

That is $3120 under the sale price. Leaving $1880 of your $5000 to be accounted for.

$625 acquisition fee
+ another $965 in charges?

Some of that $965 might be going for tax on the CAP cost reduction from the trade. Also title/license/doc fees. Find out where your $5K has been allocated.

There might be an extra $500 of questionable charges in there, but other than that, the deal looks good.

Thanks for the assessment! Very helpful. I spoke to the sales rep and he told me that the $289 includes "everything" (e.g. tax, any fee, etc) and I don't need to pay anything when I pick up the car today, not even the 1st month payment. He did confirm .0001 MF and 55% for RV.

Lease cash is a factory to dealer incentive. Dealer can choose to pass it along to the customer. Use this knowledge to negotiate your best price.
